The Madness of the North (Beginner Friendly)

Insominus

Sauce Lover
Basic Plot
The isle of Moordon has experienced peace and tranquility for nearly sixty years, seemingly timeless feuds have been forgotten and a plethora of hatchets have been buried. However, Moordon is not a place without conflict, bands of mercenaries still roam her sweeping plains and many nations still build armies hoping for the chance to use them again. Nevertheless, life is safe for most of the isle's inhabitants.
Or at least it was until the last moon cycle. They say in the far north, deep in Upper Dunbarton, something stirred. Nobody knows what exactly, but they say the next fortnight Dunbarton City was attacked. Not by an army wielding weapons, but by villagers. By women and children, by cats and dogs. They say the attack descended on the city like a fervent wave of nails and teeth. The attackers scaled walls, fell perilous heights, and sustained mortal injuries. But they kept coming, grabbing whatever they could get their hands on to use as weapons and savagely murdering whoever they came across. The fate of Dunbarton City is unknown, these are merely rumors after all, not an official report. But if there truly was a force that could motivate mortals to be so base and evil, it might mean the end of Moordon itself.

I'm looking for five or so people for this particular RP, my hope is that we will do it daily (hence the smaller minimum post) but if you suddenly disappear off the face of the planet (and don't mention anything about beforehand) the RP will move on. I'm hoping this RP will attract new players who may feel out of their depth in some other RPs, but being a beginner is not at all a requirement. If you are interested, display your interest by completing a character sheet and posting in this thread, if you have any questions or concerns, just message me.

The Culvinian Peninsula: Culviny (Capital City of Canicatti) has been called home by many great persons of our time, many find the climate most agreeable, although the sun beats down relentlessly and the air is often humid, the peninsula is cooled by year-round ocean drafts creating an eternal summer for its inhabitants. As for landscape, Culviny has temperate forests in the north and mountains in the south (they are considered inhospitable and hold a very sparse population). Like the climate, most citizens of Culviny are generally agreeable and are viewed favorably by others. Culviny finds its wealth by trading, Culvinians are typically known as good sailors, so it's no surprise that their goods find their way all over Moordon. Some would even claim that every piece of gold in Moordon has gone through the hands of a Culvinian merchant at least once. The government in Culviny is controlled by a democratically elected parliament and is well favored by its citizens.

The Principality of Carconi: Carconi (Capital City of Vetta) is closely tied to Culviny, both in geography and in spirit. At one time, they were one state, so the two countries are tied closely together. However, most Culvinians might find the Carconian climate to be unpleasant, northern Carconi experiences four distinct seasons, but southern Carconi experiences high humidity and heat all year-round. Most of Carconi is forested, all though one will find an abundance of swamps as they approach the southern coast. The people of Carconi are tied closely to its geography, the south harbors more common people while the north is typically full of the wealthy. Carconi is most well known for their textile and fashion industry, one can easily find the latest fashion trends on the streets of Vetta. The government in Carconi is a monarchy and is generally viewed disagreeably by its citizens, many feel that the reigning monarch is incompetent and his decisions are outdated.

Mitterbind: Mitterbind (Capital City of Tiefstadt) is a country that would choose economic enterprise over war any day, astoundingly, they have remained neutral in every conflict that Moordon has ever seen. Mitterbind is dominated by an imposing mountain range in the middle of the country, supposedly there are hidden fortresses deep in the mountains, but there is yet to be any proof of this. Most of Mitterbind is temperate except for the north where it tends to be colder. A Mitterbinder's livelihood is most likely either mining or tree-felling, the country has no shortage of either resource. Mitterbind is often viewed disparagingly by its northern neighbors and somewhat favorably by its southern neighbors as a result of its neutrality. The government in Mitterbind is a particracy, although you would never catch a Mitterbinder saying it aloud.

Presidential Republic of Varsonas: Varsonas (Capital City of Tameiga) is most often associated with vacation and strong spirits. The entire country is a veritable tropical paradise filled with natural wonderment and lively people. Most Varsonians claim that you haven't really lived until you've found yourself buried in the bosom of a Tameigian whore with a bottle of Vejoan rum in your stomach. Most Varsonians work as fishermen on the coast and only make enough money to support their families. The rich are very rich and the poor are very poor. The government in Varsonas is a presidential republic and most citizens are indiffierent to it.

Republic of Ringfeldt: Ringfeldt (Capital City of Pfarrsberg) is the polar opposite of Mitterbind, Ringfeldters are the first to escalate, first to throw a punch, and most likely to stab you in the back and twist the knife. Although Ringfeldt shares dialects, traditions, and a border with Mitterbind, they could not possibly hate them more. Whenever war breaks out, Ringfeldt is the first to strike using its vast army of conscripts and mercenaries alike. Most of Ringfeldt is rather unremarkable, the climate is cold but not frigid, the countries income is supported by leasing its army out to other nations to deal with brigands or bandits. Recently, many mercenaries have returned home because they can no longer be supported by the government. Others continue wandering Moordon, endlessly looking for work. The government in Ringfeldt is a stratocracy and is viewed disdainfully by other nations, but rather fondly by Ringfeldters.

The Former State of Greater Dunton, Upper Dunton: Upper Dunton (Capital City of Dunton City) used to be part of the largest nation on Moordon until they declared their independence, this has been widely regarded as a very bad move by many academics. Most of Upper Dunton is considered inhospitably cold and there are very few resources except for coal. As a result, many Duntonians find themselves living in abject poverty as they struggle to live day to day. Dunton City used to be well known for its university, but it slowly lost its acclaim over the years. Most Duntonians would rather seek work in other countries than ever set foot in Upper Dunton ever again. Some are fond of the saying "There's death...and then there's Dunton." The government in Upper Dunton is a democratic republic, most citizens are either indifferent or wholly ignorant of its existence.

Kingdom of Moremere: The Kingdom of Moremere (Capital City of Roehester) is the oldest nation on Moordon and also one of the largest. Moremere is one of the most accurate depictions of the north, the southern half of the country is mostly barren with some frozen grasslands and the north is all tundra. The Moremere experience winter almost all year round, but they are quite fond of it and wouldn't have it any other way. The Moremere were originally nomadic herdsmen and their current status reflects that, their economy is very reliant on agriculture and animal husbandry. The Moremere are always the rowdiest drinkers but the most honest friends, other northern states are quite happy to have the Moremere in their company, but they are not viewed with kindness by many southern states. The government in Moremere is a monarchy lead by a king, the citizens widely respect him, even when he makes unpopular decisions.

I am absolutely interested, but cannot post a character sheet until I get home from work. Save me a spot!

I am certainly interested for sure. I will certainly try to rp everyday, but with my schedule right now it may not be possible for once per day. Will that be acceptable?

That's perfectly fine, I'm pretty sure most RPs on this site don't move that fast anyway.

I'm very interested in this! Give me a littlle bit to think about a character to use and I'll post a form :)

Full Name: Rachel Alexis Nickoloff
Age: 13
Gender: Female
Height: 5'0
Nationality: Culvinian
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Brown
Physical Description: Somewhat short, beige skin, brown eyes, long, wavy copper hair, somewhat athletic build. She also has contacts since she's nearsighted.
Clothing/Equipment Description: Navy blue jacket with hood, light gray t-shirt, jeans, sneakers, and contacts (either that or thin-rimmed blue and black glasses).
Background: She was born in Culviny to her parents Julie and Scott Nickoloff with an older sister named Jayda. They tended to move around quite a bit, so she moved around Culviny frequently until her family moved to Canicatti, finally settling there for good and letting Rachel have more permanent friends.

(I'm really sorry about the background, I'm terrible at doing that.)

Also in this RP there are contacts, right? If not then just glasses.

Sorry about the late reply, but after checking it I believe there is no specific plot line? Just trying to be sure before posting my sheet.

Sounds great, approved! I'd say glasses because I'm going for a late medieval era and the first contacts were invented in the late 19th century.

No problem at all, I was just trying to be vague and mysterious in my post. The party will travel north to investigate the rumors about the madness, that's really the most I can give away right now. Your character doesn't have to be a grizzled mercenary or even an avid traveler, I wanted people to come from all walks of life.

This looks great and I'd love to join! I just have a few questions before submitting my character sheet.

How sfw is this RP going to be? Both with violence and sexual themes, keeping in mind the time that it takes place. (I was thinking that my character was going to be in close relations to alcohol, fights and whores for reference. Probably really favors Tameiga lol)

Are there slaves or are everyone free?

How opposed to other nations are they? E.g would Pfarrsberg accept people from Canicatti into their military?

Thanks for your interest, there will be violence and combat, although that's not all the party will be doing. I'm perfectly fine with sexual elements as long as they don't violate the forum's rules and if there's no full-on ERP-ing.

Slavery does exist on Moordon, but not on a large scale. It's frowned upon in Northern Moordon, but not illegal. In Southern Moordon, it's been pretty much accepted and adopted into society (i.e. indentured servants are a common sight in Carconi ).

Ringfeldters are extremely passionate about their military tradition and culture, so it's unlikely that they would allow a Culvinian to enlist into their military. However, it wouldn't be impossible for a group of mercenaries with mixed nationalities to work for the Republic of Ringfeldt. I wouldn't say the opposition between nations is particularly strong, at the worst you would be shunned or driven out of town for being a foreigner (i.e. a Mitterbinder living in Ringfeldt)

Hmm. Let me guess, you wish to rp as a slave?

Hope this is alright!
Full Name: Lysero Kolmenova
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Height: 6'1
Nationality: Varsonian
Hair Color: Dark brown
Eye Color: Brown
Physical Description:
b8790f5631fc939cd5396382577f5007.jpg
Lysero is a fairly lean individual with a body made more for running than hard physical labor. His hair is long, though he keeps it neatly tied back and makes a habit of braiding beads and ornaments into his locks. Because of his Varsonian background, his skin is a dark chestnut, with the faintest of scars interlaced across his shoulders and legs.
Clothing/Equipment Description:
Lysero's wardrobe is one shade away from gaudy. His robes loosely flowing and bright colored, it's made to grab attention. Various jewelry decorate his hands and hair, but his most notable piece is the gold medallion that hangs around his neck. Though he's not one for battle, Lysero takes careful care to carry some modes of defense. Hanging off his belt is an ornate rapier designed more for show than use, but hidden in his boots is a worn dagger made for less flashy purposes.
Background:
If you were to ask him about his history, Lysero would weave tales of a dashing lord cast out into the world or a heroic adventurer back from his latest conquest. None of these are true. Instead, Lysero's origins hold a much humbler and less fortunate beginning.
One of the youngest among ten siblings, Lysero dwelled among the slums of Varsonia. His father was a drunkard and a fisherman--though the former proved to be more of a fitting role--and his mother was a struggling seamstress. Though meals were scarce and proper care scarcer, Lysero found himself as cheerful a childhood a street urchin could muster, wandering the streets and swindling oblivious fools out of coin with his siblings.
However, that all changed when a trading ship arrived into their local port. Curious and eager, Lysero snuck aboard into the storage room. He became too absorbed to notice that, in the time he was filling his bags with stolen goods, the ship was already beginning to depart from port. When the young boy had finally gone onto the deck, his home was already a dot on the horizon. Eventually, Lysero was discovered by a sailor. After being taken to the captain, he was given two options: return to Varsonia and face punishment, or join the crew to pay off his crime. Suffice to say, Lysero chose the latter.
Though he had a rocky beginning, in time Lysero soon found his place among the crew. He learned to cook, clean, and even navigate in the worst of storms. Years passed, and eventually Lysero collected enough coin to care for himself. He resigned from the crew, a new mission in mind: to see the world. Lysero traveled from town to town, tagging along caravans and doing small jobs when he could. He made a reputation for himself: weaving eccentric stories he concocted or heard on the road, being run out of town for 'borrowing' a few things from merchants (old habits die hard); even charming the hearts of a few beauties that caught his eye.
Of course, trouble was no stranger. On a recent occasion, he found himself in the bed of a lord's wife. The resulting chaos, which involved half the lord's employed guards and serfs literally chasing him out their land, led him to travel to a new city with much higher prospects: Canicatti

Here you go. I hope she is good.

Full Name: Hilde Losnedahl
Age: 35
Gender: Female
Height: 5’7”
Nationality: Moremere
Hair Color: Red
Eye Color: Brown
Physical Description: She is built for strength and not for beauty. Her skin is pale and worn thin and rough by the harsh winds and burning sun in the summer. She is freckled and her hands bare scars and are calloused. Her skin is wrinkled in a slight and hard manner. Her hair is kept in a single and practical braid or bun, out of her face and way.
Clothing/Equipment Description: She wears a set of brown pants and a simple white blouse, that is loose fitting. She wears a sheepskin vest and boots made out of bear fur and leather. She carries a rucksack on her back, along with leather belt she keeps around her waist that has pouches on it. She keeps a round wooden and iron shield strapped to her back, over her rucksack. Her weapon is a one-handed battle axe that she keeps on her waist, with a leather cover over its blade. She has one hunting knife in her bag and one on her waist. She can shoot a bow, but does not carry the weapon.
Background: She was the wife of a man who raised pig and sheep since she was young, but at the age of 30 her husband passed away from illness and she sold her husband’s farm. She had no children with him and felt it was finally time to leave her home land. She traveled through most of the countries, learning that the world was just as harsh as the winters in her home. She became a merchant, selling furs and pelts from animals she traps, scrapping out a meager living in Canicatti, though she hates the heat and humid air. She likes the dry tundra, and misses her sheep and pigs.

Hope this is alright!

Approved! I was hoping someone would have a swash-buckling/chandelier-swinging type of character.
