Adventurers of the Empire

Strength of Steel, Will of Iron
The time is late day, near afternoon. A woman wearing spectacles looks over a log book of hires that their business had recruited. The woman is named Ernesta Ernhorn, and her business is known as the Empire Exploration Guild, a guild sanctioned by the High King himself to explore territories and ruins within and outside their borders. Not only to document their existence, but to also find and return lost and unknown relics of power that can aid them in their war against the Undead. Thousands across West Eurasia had signed up, for many different reason but only half of those stick around long enough for their second task.

The building itself is made of strong bricks and wooden supports, having two stories and few windows. The sign hanging just above the door states that the building is known as 'Franzberg Exploration Guild', the name of the building, which is located, as it states, in a city known as Franzberg, a trade city, build around the practice of commerce. The building itself is empty save for the old woman Ernesta, as the only people that usually comes in either had returned or wishes to sign up for their first or another expedition, which she had no shortage of.

Coro- guild building.

After being kicked out of the collage two years ago coro did some exploration and the odd job here and there for coin and during one of her jobs she had heard about a exploration guild and had decided to go join it might as well get paid for exploring.

Coro walks into the large empty building and go's over to the lone women assuming that is where she would sign up. "Hello i would like to sign up for a expedition" Coro was in her usual attire Simple clothing some gloves and her cloak. She did not carry in visible weapons on her.

Flavia had heard of the Exploration Guild through word of mouth; she had been protecting a young man who was afraid he was being stalked. Eventually, the person he suspected was jailed, so her services weren't needed. He told Flavia about the guild, and apparently they could always use a wall. So, here she was, carrying a large trunk at her side that held only her shields in leather sleeves, and other things to maintain her suit. She was thankful that she didn't need to eat or drink; it let her travel light (or as light as she could, considering that she was essentially a big block of metal).

She stepped into the building, immediately hit by the quiet. The building wasn't deserted however, and the sign above the door had clearly said 'Exploration Guild', so she supposed she was in the right place. She were two women in the building, one holding a log book and the other that said she also wanted to sign up. However, she looked rather poorly equipped. Flavia approached, but still behind the cloaked woman. She didn't say anything just yet, planning on doing so after the woman in front of her.

Lea had been watching the building of the Exploration Guild for three days. It was mostly empty and mostly undisturbed in those days until the third day when two women walked in nearly one right after the other. Across the street, Lea fidgeted, reconsidering her decision to come here. Her arms crossed and her fingers drummed her upper arm as she examined the building, hesitating.

However, now that there was activity inside she was curious to know what was being said. Another second's hesitation passed before Lea trudged across the street and quietly slipped through the door of the Exploration Guild. She didn't say anything, instead quietly glancing at the three others in the room and then around the room. The first woman had nothing with her, just the clothes on her back, and the second seemed to have brought all of her belongings. Lea's own few possessions were stored at the tavern she'd been staying at in the evening. Hooked to her belt was a weapon, though it certainly didn't appear to be one.

A loud slam echoed through the mostly silent main hall of the exploration guild, the doors at the entrance roughly thrown apart as Dubbult walked through, the two of them surveying whoever or whatever was inside. Seemed there was more people than when they had first shown up. A whole three people(!) stood in the room, excluding Ernesta of course. Some chick in a cloak that probably hid some sort of weapon (because who shows up to the guild unarmed?), a clanker with a large briefcase and another woman who looked to be unarmed, but they knew better (Again, who shows up to the guild unarmed?).

Clad in tough leather hide armour and lined with steel, the two held their twin leather caps under one arm and in the other brandish a sheaf of parchment. Marching along, they walk past where a small line had formed at the desk before slapping the paper down on Ernesta's desk.

"See? We told ya that we had ID-" Began Bult, who was quickly intercepted by Dub.
"But did we need to go get it? who else-"
"Has two heads and is as large as us?"

The two speak in tandem, one voice ending at the exact moment another begins, sounding as if a normal person had never stopped talking. Both wearing slightly annoyed looks, they gesture towards the paper where a picture of a smiling Dub and a distracted Bult is shown, along with the scratch that the guild likes to call 'Letters'.

Four new potential adventures came into the guild, four more then what Ernesta thought would come in today. The Wastelander(s) and Void Born looks rather competent, and might be able to hand one or two adventures, but she wasn't so sure about the Borderman and the Beastman however. Still she wasn't paid to tell people to leave, unless they were obviously wasn't of age. She opens up a new page in her log book before addressing the group.

"Ok, ok one at a time. Tell me your names, hometown and the names of your next of kin." She tells them as she prepares a quil and inkwell.

Coro-guild

Coro gos first since she was the first to arrive. "My name is coronaria clovara. No hometown and no next of kin im aware of." That was technically a lie her father was still alive but he was being held.. somewhere.

Dub raised a hand to Palm his face while Bult began glaring a promise of bloody murder at Ernesta, the glow of his eyes seemingly increasing. "We've already been-" "through this. We even got-" "the gods damned ID paper since-" "the last time we came here and gave you our details,-" "you told us to go get it sent!" The two say grumpily as they wave their free hand towards the paper.

"I realise that but it is still proper procedure to state your name, hometown and next of kin." The receptionist replied, not backing down. After a few moments of a staredown with Ernesta, who somehow won against two people at once, the duo sighed simultaneously. After slightly more defeated wave in the general direction of the receptionist, Bult turned his head to the side and began to mutter while Dub spoke up. "Dubbult Twiceroar. I'm Dub, he's Bult. We-" "Didn't have a hometown. Just write wastelander." Interrupts Bult. After a moment of silence, Dub continues. "Gonogan Whiptow is our next of kin, our brother. A wastelander with a large tentacle for an arm."

Somehow, for whatever reason, Raice had ended up back in front of the building of brick and wood that he had stood before for like five minutes last night before leaving it in favour of the cheap takeout place just across the street. It had barely a week since he'd arrived at Franzberg and he had yet to land a source of income. He's not entirely sure what an "exploration guild" does. But if it's just travelling like he's already doing, sure why the fuck not.

He enters the building relatively quietly for someone his size. One look around the room and he realises that at least he's not the only person in the room who seems unarmed or sparsely equipped. He had left most of his possessions at the budget motel room he'd been staying in. And he keeps his brass knuckles in his pockets. He is, however, probably the only person in the room with a grocery bag of vegetables and some jerky. What. He was on the way back from shopping, alright?

He walks over looks at the lady. Just tries to make eye contact with her and hopes she could read minds or something because he's not sure what he should be saying.

Flavia thought for a moment. Should she tell them the town she was tied to her armour in, or Rolm, where everyone she knew lived? She decided on the latter. "My name is Flavia Bähr. I am from Rolm, and my next of kin is Octavia Hummel. Wooden mannequin with greenish-blue eyes," she said, holding her arm down close to around her chest to show how tall the other Void Born. Though she had no relation to the mannequin, they were next door neighbours and good enough friends.

Lea waited her turn, only somewhat impatient. It seemed the woman was writing agonizingly slow the information of those who had arrived. The door opened again and she eyed the newcomer distrustfully; the building had become suspiciously active in the last ten minutes. They only had a bag of groceries, though, so perhaps they were in the wrong place... unless this newcomer planned on stabbing someone with a carrot?

Then again, she realized how unprepared she must look when the contrary was true, and instead, decided to withhold judgement for the time being. The ordinary looking girl kept a pleasant smile in her face.

Finally it was her turn and she dug through her pockets and pulled out documentation that showed proof of name, and home answering the first two questions. "Next of kin are my parents Benjamin and Laura Kaiser, their information is listed here." She pointed to the bottom of the page with their names, appearances, and where they lived was neatly written. Lea had arrived prepared.

Ernesta wrote down the names and their kin, for if they succeed or fail their task. After her recording finished she closes the book and reached under the counter to pull out a small book of various jobs available for them. The book contains many torn out pages, jobs that she was given and had recorded before handing them off to adventurers. She looked through the dozen or so jobs she had on hand, and came to one from the Lord of a Britannian town of Marlly. The job was rather simple enough, and the dangers was rather of no threat for competent explorers. She tears the paper from the book and slides it to the adventurers.

"Since you are all here, this will be your task until further notice. The Lord of Marlly, located in Britain, have claimed that the forests near his castle houses the sword of a fallen Paladin, Sir Huet de Brey. The forest in question is known, originally enough as Marlly Forest. It's notorious for being the grounds of a deep infestation of Cannibals. He claims to have led two charges into the forest to reclaim the sword, but all that did was waste the lives of hundreds of peasants, dozens of knights, and three of his four heirs. Since a head on attack wasn't working, he has come to the Empire to retrieve the sword for him in, who in turn relayed the request to us. Claiming that the recovery of the sword will help rally people to do their work more diligently, as morale has come to a low for some reason." Ernesta explains. "Now if you wish to back out now, I will not claim it against you, but if you wish to go on this journey then I suggest you get any affairs you have in order first before leaving. I shall request a carriage for you in two hours."

"Cannibals." "Great." The two grumble, stepping back a few paces to begin placing their helmets on and fastening the clasps of their armour, idly noticing the presence of a Nug and making sure everything was in place before pausing for a moment. Looking back at Ernesta, they cross their arms. "You didn't mention the pay." "We get anything out of this or-" "is it the standard fare of minor pay-" "and we get to keep anything we find?" The two ask.

"Cannibals... in a forest... this is going to be to easy" She was just about to say what the wastelander asked but they beat her to it. "Oh and since we are all here together would we have to travel in a group?"

Flavia listened, and nodded. Cannibals? They could sure try and eat her! She shuffled the trunk in her hand, wondering how much of her maintenance things would be needed. "How long will this expedition be?" She asked.

Turns out nobody here is a mindreader. Probably. And Raice was starting to feel awkward about introducing himself into what seemed like an already established group.

His eyes flit towards the door he just came from. He clears his throat.

"I...uh...Are you still taking people? If not I can come back another time. "

(( ack Raice missed the part where they were told to state their name and next of kin ,,, sorry this is kinda awkward) )

"To answer your questions in order, the job will pay the standard fee of 500 Crowns, plus housing and transportation, and if you want to take anything from the field, you might want to take it up with the one who requested the job. If you want to stay in a group, then that is fine, but if you wish to take a different job then that is fine as well. The Expedition will take as long as it takes for all of you to complete it, or until all of you are...combat ineffective. And yes, we are still taking people. This group is on their way out so if you wish to join then give your name, hometown and next of kin. Now are there any other questions?"

From what has been said since he'd entered the room this job did seem a little out of his field. It wasn't like he has any experience with this sort of thing anyways. Most of the time he took on odd jobs, not expeditions.

"Raice Nudal, Nuglar, I've got a twin brother back home. His name's Bukwhit Nudal. And uh...I guess I'll join them if that is alright."

Coro walks away from the crowed of people not liking being so close to them. "Soo.... who wants to group up?" 'Since its a forest it shouldn't be to hard to deal the the cannibals.. hopefully everyone lives if they go.' 'or they can all just die? that would be fine to.' 'Shut up you have caused enough problems.'

Two weeks have gone by.

The team travelled via carriage, payed for by the Guild. From town to town they travelled, only stopping to gather up supplies or to stay in inns for the night. It wasn't until the 15th day of their travel when they finally reached the city of Marlly. The city itself is a walled city, with a castle surrounded by a moat located in the center of the city. The carriage drops off the group at an inn known as the Hairy Toad, where they shall stay until their task is done. To the east of the city are the Marlly Forest where their task shall take them. Suggested by Ernesta, the adventurers might wish to visit the local lord to discuss payment or immediately head to the forest for the task ahead.
