Jace Hull - Valhalla Prisons

The day started out like any other for Jace, a breakfast of porridge and a cold glass of water, but unlike the days before it wasn't just him and the guards in the cafeteria. Some time yesterday the guards had brought in the next group of outcasts. Unlike Jace the new outcasts had no idea what was awaiting them, some of them probably didn't even know they were banished.

Jace had tried to talk to a few of them when they came in, but the ones he talked to seemed too depressed to carry out a real conversation. Maybe now with food in their stomachs some of them will be more inclined to get their act together, Jace thought to himself as he looked over the 15 or so new outcasts. Jace needed to find the ones that actually wanted to make it to the surface, since he knew more than half of them would just give up the moment the gates to Valhalla closed. Jace wasn't about to walk around the cafeteria and ask people if they were here to survive or die, instead he knew the ones that were serious would find him. Returning to his chow Jace waited.

"You."

Riley stood before him, her face neutral but eyes hiding her true feelings. The girl wasn't moving much, and from how he might have seen her walking - she was a but hurt, probably some nasty bruises. But she didn't let it show.
"You're the one who came back." She stated. "Tell me how."

Lazarus Deschnik - Valhalla Prisons

"Good morning guards~" Lazarus said as he stood up from bed. He then headed over to the wooden door and peeked out of the bars to see that there were, in fact, guards posted out of the door. "The beds here are pretty good. You guys wanna come in here and try it out?" He laughed to himself and the guards remained motionless, not even a hint of reaction coming from them. "Boo~" He plopped back on his bed and looked over to his prison mate. The dude wasn't even awake yet. He was really depressed when they were all brought together - said he didn't do anything but he was somehow caught and sent to the outside world. It made Lazarus even more sure of his and the group's decision to send him out of Valhalla. He didn't want to stick around for very long.

The doors opened for breakfast and his prison mate finally woke up. Lazarus waltzed out the door and made a tipping hat motion to the guards who glared at him. "Whoa, easy with the glares. Someone sure doesn't appreciate a grateful gesture." He said with a grin. Oh he was so going to get killed someday, but it was fun! They still weren't doing anything about his loud mouth. Oh wait, they're probably thinking how he won't survive outside of Valhalla. How it'll swallow him alive. Well now. He'll make them see.

He arrived at the cafeteria and took his share of food. As he was looking for a place to sit down when he overheard something. She turned to a blue haired girl and a man he's never seen before. She said something about him being the one who "came back". He waltzed over to them. "You're an unfamiliar face." He told the male. "I'm interested in hearing this." He continued, placing his tray on the table and a grin on his face. "Besides, if you got back from the surface, then that means you've seen it. And I want to see it."

Jace Hull - Valhalla Prisons

Jace Looked up from his meal and examined the girl that so rudely interrupted his peaceful meal. Smirking a bit Jace gestured to the seat in front of him, "sit down and eat. There will be plenty of time for talking, but only so much time to eat." As Jace told the girl to take a seat a young man, that seemed very confident in himself, took a seat at the table explaining how he wanted to hear what Jace had to say and how he wanted to make it to the surface. Once the girl had taken her seat Jace started to explain what had happened and how he had made it back alive.

"I will spar you my life story and start off from when I first found out I was exiled. At first I was a little scared and depressed that I wouldn't be able to see my family again, but then I meet a group of outcasts that unlike the rest of us weren't sulking around. Instead they were discussing plans to make it to the surface. I fell in with them seeing no other real option, in fact we tried to recruit more people to join thinking we would have a better chance the more people we had, but not a lot did and those that did join ended up being dead weight. That is why I am not running around here telling everyone to join me on a wonderful quest to the surface where all their dreams will come true. I know for a fact most of these people just want to die and dragging them along with you will get you killed. The surface aint anything like they say it is in the books we read at school, it is a madhouse and no place for cry babies that think being thrown out is unfair. Before I go wasting my time preparing you to face what's up there I need to know you aren't going to roll up in a ball and start pissing yourself the moment you have to fight for your life. I need to know you can take care of yourself and that you're bringing something to the table that will help us survive," Jace finished looking across the table to see if they were serious, he was confident one of them would get up and walk away, and that was okay.

"I did do nothing wrong." She said, moreso to herself. "And I have no time to cry. I have someone I will get back to, so if sticking with you is the way -then it's the way." She paused to eat a bit. "I grew up hated. Being bullied, I learned very early on that I can't rely on others. So I learned to fight. I learned to find my own way." She poked at some vegetables, then ate a bit. "I can bring what I know about fighting. Scrounging. Surviving in a place where most people wouldn't care if they found you bleeding in the street. I don't need to be carried. I just need a direction."

Lazarus Deschnik - Valhalla Prisons

As they were talking, Lazarus was eating. He had finished his meal quicker than the rest of them but he occasionally nodded to let them know that he was listening. When they were both done, he clasped his hands together and placed them on the table. "I wouldn't have volunteered myself to be thrown outside if I couldn't handle myself. I also learned how to fight because I had to. Scavenging is another skill of mine." He replied with a grin. Though to think that everyone else here wanted to wither and die just because they were thrown out. Those people at the top in Valhalla really were bastards. They want everyone to conform to their society then just take people who follow the rules and throw them outside just because, and they couldn't survive because all they knew about were their roles in society.

"You have my word that I'll do my best, if that means we can survive."

Jace Hull - Valhalla Prisons

Jace was pleasantly surprised that neither of them had left, though he did let out a small chuckle when the girl mentioned coming back. "Sure you guys can fight, but can you run? Fighting is cool and all but running is what will save your life. Also I hope you don't think they will let you back in. Case in point," Jace explained gesturing to himself. "The government is so broken and corrupted that they don't want things to change. The truth is we can return to the surface safely and go outside without dieing, sure everything up there is going to try to kill us at some point or another, but it's our home we belong up there not down here living with their messed up rules."

Jace sighed realizing he had gotten off topic, "anyway, we need to focus on surviving now, the clock has already started. After we are done eating they will give you a piece of paper to write a goodbye letter on. Once that is done you're out. The letter will never be delivered, so you can waste your time writing a sob story or you can leave it blank and start heading for the surface while there is still light coming from the open gate."

As Jace was about to finish a guard with a boom mic explained, "return to your cells immediately and await further instructions."

"I am only going to wait so long by the gate, so try and be quick. I will explain more while we walk to the surface," Jace explained standing up and heading back to his cell.

Ten minutes after making it back to his cell a guard came by and handed Jace a pencil and paper. Jace set them both down on the bed and told the guard he was ready. The guard smirked and unlocked his cell, Don't want to tell mommy how much you will miss her?" The guard mocked. Jace ignored him knowing the guard was only trying to get him to react. The guard escorted Jace through the prison to the gate, which had been opened. For a moment the darkness seemed to be pouring into the city like a plague but eventually the lights of Valhal began to fight the darkness back. Jace paused for a moment at the gate taking one last breath of the stale Valhalla air, before stepping once more into the unknown.

On the other side of the gate it smelled and looked like something straight out of hell. Jace Covered his nose and made his way a few feet into the dark cave before turning around to see if the others were coming yet.

Riley nodded. She had nothing else to say about it, and finished eating. She needed all the strength she could get...the worst was far yet to come. Once the boom mic got them moving and she was in the cell, she sat down. Breathing softly, she began relaxing. She couldn't lose it. She had to keep it together. Even if she went with the others...there was no true chance she would be helped. She either pulled her weight or got left behind.

Taking the paper and pencil, she wrote a note anyways.

Sora,

I love you, my little sky. And one day I will keep my promise, and show you the sun.

Even if you wont get this note, it makes me feel better that the guards reading this will know that one day, they'll see the sky.

-Riley

The guard motioned. She was pushed roughly, and soon a guard began laughing. Her note. Then it stopped...and be laughed more. She didn't really react. She'd show them the sky.

Once the gate was opened, she headed out and quickly found Jace, coming up. She said nothing, just stood beside him, facing away and down the foul smelling tunnel.

Lazarus Deschnik - Valhalla Prisons

Lazarus grinned and then nodded at him. It really sounded interesting in the surface. He could also put his running abilities to good use other than just pranking people. He then leaned back and began imagining life outside. It won't be long now. He perked up when he heard that everyone should go back to their cells. With only a nod to the others, he began making his way back. The doors were closed and he leaned on his chair with his hands behind his head, waiting for the guard to arrive. And he did, handing him and his jail mate a piece of paper and a pencil each.

He only wrote what he felt there.

I'm free, you're not. See 'ya when I see 'ya suckers!

He then gave the guard the paper and his eyes narrowed at it. Lazarus stuck his tongue out at the guard who didn't react very much. He wondered if every other guard in this place was this emotionless. He was then led down the path and then the gate opened. "Down the rabbit hole I go~" He said in a singing tone, his wide grin contrasting the sadness the others held in their faces.

He practically skipped out of the gate before reeling back. "Ugh, that smells disgusting." He muttered to himself and some of the guards laughed. He shook his head and trudged on. Lazarus finally saw the others and then remarked, "Man, is this some sort of sewers. I got in my fair share of them in Valhalla but this stinks." He then turned to Jayce, waiting for him to lead the way.

Jace Hull - Tunnel to the surface

"I told you most of the people give up as soon as the gate closes," Jace explained turning back away from Valhalla. "It's a quarter mile to the stairs," Jace said as he started forward into the dark, "it's going to get pitch black before long, so no matter what happens or how many times you fall and scrape your knees keep going forward and stay close to the person in front of you ."

At first Jace and the others made good time using the light from the open gate, but when the light disappeared the small group had to slow down and make every step with caution.

With the darkness came cries for mercy, "the gates have been sealed," Jace explained to no one in particular. Jace hated thinking about all those people trapped back there, but he told himself he couldn't do anything for them and continued onward.

After slamming his feet into a hundred rocks and tripping a thousand times the group finally reached the stairs. "Now we crawl," Jace said placing his hands on the first step and beginning the long climb up ward to the surface. Almost there just keep climbing, Jace kept reminding himself as he crawled up the cold metal stairs.
