Deific Reality
Name: Jazie Stone
Age: 23
Gender: Female
Character Description
Appearance: Jazie is small in stature at 4’10”. Physically she is quite capable because she has trained for combat, but her body is naturally frail so it has been trialing for her to become as good as the average resistant member. Her frailty is not as obvious as it once was. She certainly does not appear to be fit, she’s however skinny, perhaps too skinny. Jazie has difficulty putting on muscle mass or developing muscle tone. She has a pale sickly look to her skin and normal fatty areas on a person are hollow on her.
Jazie is happy that she’s not fat, but most people believe she’s starving despite her having a healthy appetite. Since she does not want others to see her, she wears loose clothing: a baggy shirt and pants. Sometimes her superiors insist she wears tight fitting clothes for missions. She will change her clothes, and she does have clothes that fit her better. She always wears suspenders underneath to hold up her pants since she has no hips or butt.
The qualities she likes is her long dark silky black hair, it actually glows healthily unlike her skin. Her almond slanted eyes are large deep emeralds. She even has full flush lips. She receives compliments on these facial features. However due to her hollow and pale cheeks she normally hides all of her face but her eyes with a cowl mask.
Jazie normally wears earthly dyed clothing to conceal her presence. She tries to blend in with the crowd. She avoids flashy clothing or jewelry. Often, she is mistaken as a child because of her small stature.
Nature: Jazie cares deeply about humans. She’s careful to hold her compassion in check though. Most do not care to hear it, and further it usually makes things more tragic. Sometimes she can’t help herself and spill her feelings out.
Demeanor: People look for a collected calm professional, at least that’s Jazie’s thoughts. She knows she’s emotional, but has learned to control it. She gives others the composure she believes they want to see. She wants to be seen as reliable and competent, she knows she is. Still a crier is not seen to be stable or reliable, so she does so in private. It’s like if she doesn’t let it out she’ll get grouchy, upset, unable to think properly.
Backstory
Childhood: Jazie was bought from her mother before she was even born. Times were desperate for her family, and one child lost instead all were preferable. Besides they were thanked for contributing to the resistance's war effort.
Jazie was bought for an experiment backed by the resistance. Other children were bought too in the same manner. While in the wound, genetic splicing techniques were used. Most died, few survived. Eventually it was stopped because the cost was too high and the results were disappointing. Jazie was one of a handful of the survivors who had any ability at all. The idea was to have human birthed children that were faster, stronger, etc. However, none exhibited the desired results. At the young age of 5 the project was completely canceled and the children involved ended up becoming orphans. Many were simply disfigured with a horn, dark skin or a stunted wing with partial feathers.
The experiment called for splicing the fetus with demon and angel genes. Unfortunately, as some of the minds involved at the time thought, too little was known. The resistance thought it was worth the effort, they needed to create an advantage, something that would give them an edge over the invading angels and demons. Jazie and others like her was a result. Jazie was one of the lucky ones.
Training: Jazie only lived at the orphanage for a year, some of her friends died during that time. Food was scarce and facilities weren’t kept in good conditions, and it was because they had a lack of funding. Those who ran the orphanage did their best, and Jazie got that idea, but didn’t really understand it at her young age.
She was adopted by man her spotted her manifested abilities. He was retired from the resistance because of an injury he had suffered. He was combat inept for the most part. He still had his experience and knowledge though. The resistance chose not to tap on it, because they did want their young to see a disfigured veteran. They stated it would dishearten their volunteers. Jazie’s adopted father Joseph Stone didn’t entirely disagree with them. Still he wanted to help, and Jazie was used to seeing grotesque disfigurations.
Jazie took on the training Joseph gave to her right away. He had picked up some magic himself, but tactics and experience was his strong suit. He invested a lot of time in training Jazie. Jazie had a sharped mind and picked on even the small nuances of tactics and not just the basics.
However, Josephs injuries coupled with his advance age, and exertion with training Jazie soon took a toll on him. He passed away shortly after Jazie turned sixteen years old. Jazie’s magic still needed honing.
An old acquaintance of Joseph had shown up for his funeral and noted, the girl, his adopted daughter was adept at using magic, a rarity. His name was Jac Helen, an old man himself now, however, he only recently retired. It was because he was too old for it. Jac never commanded troops or worried over tactics too often. His expertise was using magic; his magic was combat oriented though unlike Jazie’s. But hers could be used for that, by augmenting others by either boosting their abilities or limiting them. He decided to teach her how to use her magic more effectively.
Jac spent quite bit of time in teaching her to reserve her magic powers and making them more efficient and broader in scope. ‘Don’t focus too much on one ability. You don’t want to be a one hit wonder. If you are people will learn how to make you useless and die early. You need to be able to survive all, have more tricks up your sleeve than they do. By ‘they’, Jac meant angels and demons, humanity’s sworn enemies. At 21, five years later Jazie joined the resistant and started getting practical experience.
Resistance:
Jazie started at the bottom like everyone else did. She was given a gun, tactical gear and sent through the boot camp in the area. Despite a lack of a pool resources from all resistance pockets each that survived was quite organized and ensured their new resistance soldiers would be effective and not a waste. Life was precious, and those who fought more precious. They wanted them to live, to kill many before their troops lost their lives.
Jazie appreciated the training. Worked hard too. She was considered a star pupil when it came to tactics. Her athletics and coordination though was below average despite her giving her best. Her awareness in combat was noted, and because others trusted her sharp decisions, others just followed her lead.
Jazie almost right out of boot camp, because of her sound and quick judgements in combat was a given a lead role in most missions. It all depended though on what was going on and what specialties were needed. Just as often someone else lead because their abilities were superior in a given situation. Jazie had no issues with this idea, the most competent in a given situation should be calling the shots as far as she was concerned.
Jazie’s latest assignment did not turn out well. Now she was on foot looking for others, hopefully more resistance soldiers. Although she was not in her resistance’s normal operating area. Resistance soldiers is she found some would not know her; she was sure of that. The rest of her team was dead by the hands of demons, they did not see them coming, and her leader did not make the best decision when they did. Jazie managed to escape pursuit when the others had fell by enhancing her ability to blend in and pass unnoticed. Sometimes she blessed her short burst enhancements. Now though, since she exhausted those spells on herself, she could not use them again for the time being. She had other spells though, and there was always a way, you just had to find it.
Specialty
Combat Tactics: Jazie has had special training from veterans. She is capable of analyzing a battlefield quickly and accurately. She already possessed a good sense of tactics and remembers a tactic once she sees it. This does not mean she has any knowledge of Strategy like getting logistics how do move an army through a mountain path etc. She knows what to do and why in actual combat.
Enhancer Magic: She is able to buff her and others' abilities.
Limitations: She can only use a specific enhancement on a specific person/living being once every day. She is also limited to creating a ten enhancements a day for everyone without her staff. It’s limited to a range of 5 meters and radius of 1 meter per casting. Only living beings are affected by it. Casting takes approximately 30 seconds on average. More potent spells take more time, while less effective ones can be casted much quicker.
Sapping Magic: She is able to debuff her and others' abilities.
Limitations: She can only use a specific reduction on a specific person/living being once every day. She is also limited to creating a ten sapping effects a day for everyone without her staff. It’s limited to a range of 10 meters and one person/living being per casting. Casting takes approximately 15 seconds on average. More potent spells take more time, while less effective ones can be casted much quicker.
Gear
Rod of Phenomena
Description: A gnarled wood staff with several twig strands of two shades, a dull dark purple and a dim glowing light blue, twisted together of equal proportion. The staff has no base, it’s twigs from various trees and plants braided together to form it. It’s approximately a half meter in length with a 9 to 12 cm circumference respectively at its thinnest and thickest weave. Because of the natural grooves in it, it is not difficult to hold and wield.
To repair it, more strands can be weaved into the rod. The strands must be prepared in the proper way so the rod remains potent and effective.
Powers: The rod increases a user’s ability to cast spells. It acts as a focus and makes spell casting more efficient. First it increases a caster’s spell range by as much as 50%. Second it triples a caster’s spell casting ability which might be its most prized addition. It also reduces needed casting time to finish a spell by one half. The potency of the spell is not increased, nor how many it effects or the area it effects.
History: The staff was crafted by Jac himself. One day Jac wondered if he could use demon and angel blood to use magic more effectively. He tried several experiments with their blood and actually managed to create different predictable effects with it. Most of them however was minor in nature. He thought what if I struck a balance, and dried it? Eventually his developed technique and hard work paid off. The Rod of Phenomena was born and created. It made a magic user far more potent than they would otherwise be. But it was bulky and took up space a gun or other gear could be instead. So only those who were already quite effective with magic and used it found it useful at all. While magic usage was not entirely uncommon, most used technology and mass-produced weapons more often than magic. The staff never saw mass production, and only a handful were ever created by Jac. No one else even asked the technique of it besides his god daughter Jazie.
