Yew O'Betchel

Age: 2803

Gender: Male

Race: Demon; Summoner/ Beast Master

Clan: Serpent's Kiss

Rank: Officer

Weapons: Paper Talismans

Since the last major battle in Haven, Yew learned his lesson. One must think three steps ahead of anybody especially in a battlefield. One talisman equals to one spell. Either he summons one of his creations or that he releases a spell. The more powerful ones require Yew to chant a prayer for the talisman to work.

Passive Abilities:
  • Tracker - with different colored smokes coming from different people, Yew could follow one and track a specific person. This is mostly used to know where the leaders and their second-in-command is.
  • Adoptive fighting - due to being trained with different styles of fighting, he quickly adopts a style to counter his enemy. This also includes the mastery of weapons. Though he was never seen to actually wield a weapon.
  • Poison resistance - could resist most of natural poisons and concocted potions. What could take him are the biological weapons made by humans that are not extracted.
  • Lie Detecting - The smoke, or aura, around someone changes when they are lying. If one wants to lie on Yew's face, that someone should know how to control their aura, magic, and emotion at the same time.

Active Abilities:
With the paper talismans, he could bring forth creatures from nightmares such as wraiths, wyverns, boggarts, and even sprites. All his summons are ghastly and skeletal in nature.

Some might be bigger than him but are weaker in terms of power.

Weakness of summoning is that he sacrifices his magic. The longer the summons are in the battlefield, the most he is weakened. An opponent will notice this when he starts leaving the battlefield.

After summons, the creatures turn back to parts. He has to collect them again, hence why they look ghastly.

Could only summon three creatures at the same time. Going beyond that and he will lose consciousness. Resting [never using his magic whatsoever] for a minimum of half an hour and he could once again use his summons.
To create his creatures, Yew has to collect body parts. He does this by using his black paper talismans. A specific spell is chanted and the said part is captured inside the paper.

He could not collect whole bodies and still beating body parts. He could also not take living things no matter how small.

One chant could only collect about four body parts the size of a human leg. Bigger parts are required to be 'collected' individually.
With the paper talismans, Yew could call for elements through them.

He could not control them. He just releases them from the paper. For example; if he was to use fire balls, a paper with the rune is taken between his fingers and is aimed at whatever he was facing. The fire ball is released in a straight line like a bullet coming out of a gun. He could not control the fire ball after released.

Those paper talisman are only to be used once. The paper, after the rune is used, disintegrates.

Could only do fifteen runes without rest. If ever he has his summons active, he could only do nine.

His latest rune creation is poisoned fog. This, when inhaled causes the muscles to relax. It will make the victim sleepy.
Like the runes, he is able to create protection and sealing barriers.

Could only create one barrier at a time. To do so, he has to etch/draw the spell around his target. This is nearly impossible to achieve if the target is always moving and has detected his plans.

As per protection barrier, same rules apply. To be protected, one has to stand inside the barrier. Limitations of this is that he could only protect from physical damages such as punches, weapons, and elemental damage.

Dislikes:
  • Hot, humid weather. With so many layers of clothing he was forced to wear, it was only natural for him to hate the heat.
  • Fire.
  • Someone not concerned for their leader
  • Black Rose. Reason for this is stated right above.
  • Black Cross. They almost killed Glumisun when they came to invade Haven. He would not hesitate to kill anyone who holds the symbols of the organization.
  • People not following orders with a reason that "they were concerned about the others"
Personality:
For someone who has been living with the philosophies of the temple, Yew is ironically sadistic and blood-thirsty. He will not hesitate to resort to violence and threats to bring forth discomfort and fear to people he does not like even if his faith told him otherwise.
He is rather flirtatious and is always teasing. That teasing would turn into insults without him knowing. When provoked, those comments and insults would go below the belt. He will try and make you react violently with words alone.
Not really caring of ranks except for his master, he treats everyone equally. He also does not care what happens to Haven nor the people sacrificed for the happiness of his ward.
Bio:
Growing up in a family with four other siblings, Yew was considered the most disciplined. He never showed his anger to his family nor will he raise his voice if irritated. The first time the family actually heard him shout was when a cockroach started flying around the living room.

Being the ‘weird’ kid, Yew was always alone but he never gave it a second thought. He loved the isolation. That was until Aerin showed that she actually cared for them. Like a lost puppy, the teen started to follow into his sister’s shoes. He would sneak out of the house just to follow Aerin into all sorts of casinos and bars. At an early stage, Yew has already developed his tracker abilities. He had used this to his advantage, taking in delight when he could find his siblings in the most awkward of scenes.

Then tragedy arrived. Yew was with his older brother then, tending to dinner when beings charged through the house. Being the only person who knows how to fight, he took up the kitchen knife and tried to take down the murderers. He was easily overwhelmed and was beaten. Them, along with Aerin who came in late, were all captured.

Unaccepting of the fate they were forced to, Yew moved like a caged animal. He had used everything in his power to just get out of the hell-hole they were placed into. Soon, he was forced to wear a blindfold and was tied up for days on end without water nor nourishment. His siblings pleaded for him to stop and accept his fate. This caused bond he held with them to break. He snarled and spat hateful words at them, attacking them even. His violence towards the other slaves had him punished.
Bloody, bruised, and in the brink of death, Yew was rescued by the people living in the mountains. They were a peaceful bunch and have considered the white-haired demon as one of their own. Yew was uncomfortable with the way they were treating him since even at home, he was never been this… pampered. Thinking that it was time to leave, he packed up whatever he could and started sneaking out.

Then he met her. Glumisun, the future leader of Serpent’s Kiss. The girl was around 1600 then, playing with an odd instrument Yew never knew the name of. Attracted to the music and the person playing, he started befriending the girl. Gradually, as years in the temple passed, he grew to consider the girl as one a sister more than his own blood siblings. She told him of her past, of her inheritance, or the fate she was supposed to take up, of the responsibilities… Yew thought it over and frowned. ‘The girl is still too young to be in that kind of shoes. Silently, he swore to protect the girl.

At the age around 2000, the officers of Serpent’s Kiss came in and took Glumisun. Not accepting the fate of his new-found sister, Yew caused so much trouble. He was once again captured and was actually used to threaten Glumisun.

“Come with us or this one dies.”

The red-head did not say anything as she raised both hands. Both were then back to the city and Glumisun’s training to become a leader started.

He was to be the second-in-command but declined, thinking of all the unnecessary responsibilities he will have instead of just watching over his ward. Glumisun then made a decision that Yew was to take up the leader position if ever she was killed. Jokingly, Yew accepted. He went on a rampage when Black Cross came and battled with the leaders.

After the incident, one thing led into another and Yew confessed that he was not going to watch another person he has come to care for die while he had breath. It took him months before he realized what Glumisun did for him. He was reunited with his siblings. The Second eldest went to Black Rose, the fourth child has become a hitman in the neutral zone, and the last… Well, the girl is somewhere in Ravinca.

It had been an emotional reunion for the four, their happiness and anger all evaporating once they saw each other. To give their gratitude to the person who helped them get back together, they have sworn to be under her beck and call.
Yew was virtually stuck with Glumisun ever since. They have just finished with the training and was walking back to the academy when he noticed a smoke he was not prepared to see again. Aerin. He ignored the nervousness in his veins and concentrated on the person beside him. He was successful until it came to a point that his eldest sister collapsed.

Yew just stood there, surprised that their eldest was alive. When his ward started to assess what happened, he was there to carry her stick-thin sister to the infirmary.

When Aerin woke up, they talked. Yew reported what the others were doing and invited the female to join the clan. That was, if she was up for a challenge.

With her as the second-in-command, she was the person being sent to the Neutral Zone for meetings with the other leaders. Yew would join from time to time just to spite some of the members there.
