Storyteller’s Circle Highlights: April + May 2017
As many of you know, we spent the last couple months easing off on general recruitment and site advertising to help give everyone time to settle in. This recap will be marking the end of that brief hiatus and a fresh new influx of new users soon to come! I'll start us off with our usual special thanks and recaps, followed by some hopefully exciting news.
With our pause in recruitment our introduction forum hasn't been hopping as much, but I'd like to extend thanks to @Gwazi Magnum, @Kian, @Pokc, and @Silence for their efforts in keeping on top of our new arrivals during the interim. Every new arrival is worth equal attention and assistance.
In addition, special thanks are also afforded for @Script, @_BB_, @6purplecats, @romamaro, and @Pokc for taking the time to recommend our website to others. Nothing says 'I support this community' like giving your personal recommendation to friends.
And lastly, but certainly not least! A very special thanks to everyone who generously donated to the website these past two months. @Script, @marsbat, @Jomber. Nothing is more humbling than the members of our community that help to fund our website. Thank you.
New Roleplay Content
We have several new Epic Roleplays that have opened up their doors since our last recap including Planetscape GMed by @Southpaw, 1,000 Years After the End GMed by @Drakey, and Atlantis - City of Dreams GMed by @RyunaSiege. With our soon to be resurgence of new arrivals Epic Roleplays are a great opportunity to offer a home for large numbers of roleplayers and have historically been a key component to keeping large numbers of players engaged. We're always happy to see more of them open up.
In addition to our Epic Roleplays, we also had a new Multi-thread roleplay start up. War of the Ancients GMed by Shadowsong.
Though historically lagging behind our Epic Roleplays, our play-by-post roleplays have continued to vastly grow in number until they have taken a more prominent position on our website with over sixty different play-by-post roleplays active in the past two months! Congratulations to everyone who has worked hard to generate engaging content across our forums. In particular we would like to once again recognize Stahlheim College of Magic GMed by @ChelonianCommander as its rebooted roleplay proves as popular and engaging as its original. It is my sincere hope that in time our play-by-post forums will be filled with roleplays as lively and engaging as this one has proven to be for its players.
What we're doing right: Despite our decision to take a brief hiatus on drawing new people to the site, the people we already have smoothly took it in stride. Our roleplays continue to bloom, and new content is regularly being made available throughout our forums. This assures me that our decision to ease off the gas for a few months was the right decision to give people time to settle in and work into their stride without being so overwhelmed. Keep the content coming!
What we need to work on: While we have had a large influx of roleplays opening up through-out our play-by-post forum, I have noted many prove short-lived. This is unfortunately a struggle faced by many roleplayers and GMs alike. Long-lasting and engaging roleplays help build confidence with new arrivals, and I would urge anyone who may be struggling with keeping their roleplays going to contact our Warden team for advice and assistance if desired. We have a vested interest in seeing everyone's roleplays succeed!
Sneak peak for June: With out recruitment/advertisement hiatus coming to a close we will be renewing our TopRPSite membership subscription and beginning a renewed push for votes. With high rankings on the TopRPSite always comes a massive influx of new arrivals. Everyone should be ready! If people have new roleplay ideas they've been wanting to get off the ground, or want to flesh out their current roleplays with new players then June will be the month fopr it! Definitely make sure you swing through our introduction forum to scout out potential candidates and to get to know the new arrivals. Since all new members are required to pass through there, it's a great place to find players for your roleplays.
I would also lastly like to take a moment to note that the large quantity of donations we received at the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017 had our server and site expenses paid up all the way through to June! That was a whole half a year! Unfortunately with June now arriving, so to has ended the surplus of donations funds. Anyone wishing to help out with maintaining our community, now's the time to do it! As always though, Dashmiel and I will personally see to any expenses not covered by donations.
Hi guys! Cream here. I'm helping Tiko out with this month's highlights and so, here I am! We're now in month five of STC's life and things are really good. We seem to have had lots of new members again this month and again, we haven't left an intro post untouched. Great work from all of us, and special thanks to @Nox@Kian@Astaroth@Neptune@Silence and @_nebula_, and of course everyone else that have taken the time to reply to our many new users and help them out.
Also, a special thanks goes to @Nox@Birdee10 and @Silence for taking the initiative to help out with queries that have come into the Help Forum. This means that we also haven't had any of the help forum go unanswered either. Having your help is greatly appreciated, especially if the Admins or staff aren't immediately around.
New Roleplay Content
We have two new epic roleplay's this month. The Isthmus of Souls by @ArQane and Etoliea by @Singing Skies and @Rachel Rider. Definitely go and check them out, as well as the other epic RP's that are up there.
We also have a lot of OOC threads that have started this month, so check them out in the OOC forums. Some of them include: Masks by @ViceVersus, AADC by @Astaroth and E.U.C.L.I.D by @Southpaw and many many more, so be sure to check them all out if you are still looking for more adventures to go one.
Also check out our bulletin board. There are many ideas up there that are waiting to grab attention! Or, post your own if you have a story to tell!
We now have a photography forum! @Tiko, @katisacat and myself have kick started things off with a bang and posted some awesome pictures. So check them out and post your own if you have anything!
The March contests have just closed! I'm getting the voting threads up this weekend, so go and read the entries and look at the art submitted. I didn't have as many entries as last month, but that's okay. Just a reminder that I am to get each contest up around the 10th of each month and they close two weeks later. I'll probably start putting up an announcement in the creative forums to let you guys know that they're up! April's will come once the voting has closed!
As for my monthly comic, that is going to be slightly late for March. I've been extremely busy at work this month and so unfortunately the comic has been on the back burner and I haven't managed to finish it. But it should be up next week some time!
What we're doing right: The forums are in full swing. We're keeping on top of helping out new users, posting roleplays, and generally being focused on the community as we've always wanted to be. This is great guys. Nothing sends a better message than giving a warm welcome to new users and giving them help when they need it.
What we need to work on: The chat. I've noticed over the last month that it's been rather quiet at times. If you're around, pop in and say hello! And if you're a new user, come in and say hello also! Rather than having people come in and see a dead chat, let them come in and see the conversation flowing! Especially if you are like me and like chatting!
Sneak Peak for April: Not sure what we have in store for April but I just want to say that we should keep up the great work we've been doing for the community. It's been a great five months so far! Let's keep up the good work guys!
Foremost are as usual our users who (holy crap there's a lot of you this month!) continue to make a conserted effort to engage our introduction forum. These individuals are always the first to be highlighted in our monthly recaps for the simple reason that they all go to show through action - not just words - that we as a community genuinely value each and every new arrival. Our site has been up and running for four months now, and in that four month span not a single introduction thread has gone unanswered. Amazing work! @Gwazi Magnum, @Marcsun, @Kian, @GoddessLuna, @Draco Shadowdragon, @Dareth, @Meliodas, @Ethereal, @Cream, @DifferentStrawhat, @Sean E., @Kiowa, @Imperator Semper Rex, and many more!
In addition, special thanks are also afforded for @kalon, @Risha, @Aevar, @Ethereal, @Pokc for taking the time to recommend our website to others. Nothing says 'I support this community' like giving your personal recommendation to friends.
We also have continued our streak of maintaining a second place position on the Top RP Sites listings. Thanks are in order for each and every user who took the time to vote for our website. Keep up the good work! The vast majority of our traffic comes through TopRPSites, and keeping us at the top of the listings ensures a steady flow of new arrivals! The votes reset today as well, so remember to get those votes in! The first week of the vote reset is key to getting into a top position as the other sites fall back. As usual we'll send out alert reminders for everyone for the first week to snag our position swiftly.
New Roleplay Content
We have two new Epic Roleplays that have opened up their door this month including Oz GMed by @Eternal, and Isn't it Grimm GMed by @ConquerorFox. With our site growing so swiftly, these Epic Roleplays continue to offer a home for large numbers of roleplayers and have been a key component to keeping large numbers of players engaged while we continue to work to improve our selection of single-thread play-by-post roleplays. Keep them coming!
We had no new Multi-Thread Roleplays kick off this month, but we had a surprising burst of activity in our single thread play-by-post forums. In particular our fantasy forum boasts sixteen new roleplays, with twenty-two threads with active posts during the month of February. Across all of our play-by-post forums we had a total of thirty-six threads with posts, twenty-five of which were newly opened! Given the sheer quantity of new arrivals we have been getting, this rush of new roleplays was much needed! Keep up the good work.
New Contests! February saw the addition of our new Contests forum in our creative forums. To kick things off where @Cream with her monthly artistic and writing competitions. In addition a photography/scavenger hunt contests was kicked off.
New Debate Forum! As many have no doubt already discovered, we opened up a Discussions & Debates forum this month.
Cream's second edition of Storyteller's Circle Comic Strip was posted up yesterday! Make sure you check it out if you haven't already. She'll be posting a new strip up once a month.
Lastly we have made available the aforementioned blog and media gallery features from last months recap. I encourage everyone to check them out if they haven't already! The Media Gallery in particular seems to be garnering the most interest, allowing people to upload their roleplay/character images directly to the website rather than using an external image hosting site. In addition to these new feature we also released a Dark theme.
What we're doing right: Going through the Introduction Forums, Writer's Circle, Main Lobby, Help Forum, and other community areas of our website, I will say our strongest asset remains our sheer level of interaction. Threads don't go unanswered - even in areas I admittedly anticipated a decline in activity after the novelty wore off. Much to my pleasure, that has not been the case. In fact our lineup of regular participants in our Introduction Forum has been growing larger every month rather than smaller!
What we need to work on: Chatroom public perception. Within the forums our interactions may be our strongest asset, but I feel that our chatroom interactions are our weakest point at this time. In the forums it's easy to ignore threads that don't interest any specific individual(s), or to think over a reply thoroughly before posting. Chat is real-time and as such more prone to impulse posts and impulse responses. As the chatroom is one of the first places many new users peak into, I would urge people to be mindful of how their actions and words might reflect upon the community if we as a whole wish to maintain the image we've all been striving so hard to uphold.
Sneak peak for March: We don't have anything big planned for March, but that doesn't mean we plan to nap on the job! We instead want to focus attentions on the smaller aspects of the site to polish out areas that need it the most. What does this mean? Be on the lookout for the small things! We'll be pushing to generate content in areas of the site that need it the most, and organizing small community projects and activities. We're also getting a new site logo!
Another month and another resounding success for Storyteller's Circle.
Foremost are our users who continue to enrich our introduction forum with their efforts to greet and engage our new arrivals. Our forerunners this month are @Gwazi Magnum joined by @GoddessLuna. I would also like to recognize and thank @Meliodas, @Kian, @ArQane, and @Cream, and @Inconspicuous for their active and consistent participation in the Introduction Forum. Thanks extended further to @Birdee10, @Marcsun, and @Gypsy for testing the waters so to speak and taking the time to toss a few greetings here and there to fellow users. These individuals are always the first to be highlighted in our monthly recaps for the simple reason that they all go to show through action - not just words - that we as a community genuinely value each and every new arrival. We had over 130 introduction threads posted in the month of January, and not a single one went unanswered. Thank you.
We also had another very successful voting month and maintained a second place position on the Top RP Sites listings for all but the last few days. This was as usual due to the sheer number of people we had participating in voting when the votes reset, and thanks are in order for each and every one of them. Keep up the good work! The votes reset in 25 hours, so get ready to hit the ground running as soon as they do! As usual we'll send out alert reminders for everyone for the first week to snag our position swiftly.
Continuing on, we have had two new Wardens that joined our staff team for the month of January, both of whom are deserving of thanks for volunteering their time to making Storyteller's Circle a better place and to ensure that our users have the best experience possible. @GoddessLuna and @Sway.
And lastly, but certainly not least! A very special thanks to everyone who generously donated to the website this month. Especially to @Faithy (who once again sits at the top of our donation listings with her very generous donation), and to @Jehanne, @Sokka, @Script, @Aman, and @Luxin for their sizable donations of $20 or more. However! Donations of any magnitude are worthy of recognition and thanks go out as well to @GoddessLuna, and @Cana. It is through these donations that we were not only able to keep our server paid in full, but also to get several new features added to the site this month. Thank you to each and every one of our donors.
New Roleplay Content
We have several new Epic Roleplays that have opened up their door this month including MANiKiN GMed by @MissMudkip, Ame Damnee GMed by @Meliodas, and We the Unwanted GMed by @ArQane. With our site growing so swiftly, these Epic Roleplays continue to offer a home for large numbers of roleplayers and have been a key component to keeping large numbers of players engaged while we continue to work to improve our selection of single-thread play-by-post roleplays. Keep them coming!
As some recall, as of last month, we have begun to offer personal sub-forum space for large Multi-Thread Roleplays that don't fit the definition of Epic Roleplays. We have had a third Multi-Thread roleplay kick off this month. Nomadium GMed by @Southpaw.
Though still lagging behind our Epic Roleplays, our play-by-post roleplays are steadily picking up. January saw a spike of new roleplays - about twenty in total - open up across our various play-by-post roleplay forums. It is my hope to see that doubled by the end of February!
We launched our first edition of Cream's Storyteller's Circle Comic Strip! Make sure you check it out if you haven't already. She'll be posting a new strip up once a month.
Lastly we have made available several new features as mentioned previously. Thanks to our donors we now have the ability to sort conversations into topics and groups for easy organizing. We also now have a very versatile bbcode table available for people. Lastly the bulletin board now supports multiple prefixes, so you can tag several prefixes to your post including an open/full description, a type description of 1x1, epic roleplay, multi-thread roleplay, and tabletop roleplay, and a list of genre/sub-genre options. We'll be adding more prefixes as needed.
What we're doing right: Day by day we continue to strengthen the community of Storyteller's Circle and prove our site values through action. Peoples immense willingness to assist one another, and to engage our new users is unlike anything I have seen on any other roleplay site I have personally visited. I continue to be astounded.
What we need to work on: Our play-by-post roleplay forums remains our weakest point right now. There has been a marked improvement of available roleplays starting up, but we definitely need more. Twenty new roleplays is a solid number, but with over a hundred and thirty new introduction posts for the month of January alone we have a greater demand for roleplays than we have roleplays available. The Epic Roleplays have helped take the brunt of this demand, but let's try and double our available single thread and multi-thread play-by-post roleplays by the end of February.
Sneak peak for February: More features! Several new ones have been implemented already, but we have plans for more on the horizon. In particular we're hoping to have blogs and media galleries available in the near future. The gallery in particular will allow people to host their character images and roleplay images directly on the site rather than through an off site location. We're also looking to implement a more efficient donation system that will allow for people to set up recurring monthly donations, as well as allow people to see where their donations are going and even allow people to pick specific things they would like to donate for (like donating for a specific feature, rather than just a general donation). This will allow us to better develop the site in the directions that people are most interested in.
Another month and another resounding success for Storyteller's Circle.
Foremost is @Gwazi Magnum for continuing to dominate the Introduction Forum. Storyteller's Circle's strongest asset is its emphasis on community and staff support. Few have driven this point home into the Introduction Forum as readily as he. I would also like to recognize and thank @Meliodas, @Kian, @Otomos the Crazy, and @The Taleweaver for their active and consistent participation in the Introduction Forum alongside Gwazi Magnum.
We also had another very successful voting month and maintained a second place position on the Top RP Sites listings for the entire month. This was largely in part to the sheer number of people we had participating in voting when the votes reset, and thanks are in order for each and every one of them. Keep up the good work! The votes reset in 27 hours, so get ready to hit the ground running as soon as they do!
Continuing on, we have had several new Wardens that joined our staff team for the month of December, all of whom are deserving of thanks for volunteering their time to making Storyteller's Circle a better place and to ensure that our users have the best experience possible. @The Taleweaver, @Diabolique, @DreamWhispers, @Persephone, and @CelticCat.
And lastly, but certainly not least! A very special thanks to everyone who generously donated to the website this month. Especially to @Loki Laufeyson/Faithy, @Sentry, and @Script for their very sizable and generous donations. However! Donations of any magnitude are worthy of recognition and thanks go out as well to @Lila Heartstrings, @Morbid Quote, @Meliodas, and @Cana.
New Roleplay Content
We have several new Epic Roleplays that have opened up their door this month including The Last Heroes' Guild GMed by @Almighty.Person.Me, Somnium Aeternum GMed by @Jag, The Sentinel Clans GMed by @Lovelessesbutterfly, and Pokemon: Journeys of Anteceon GMed by @Iamtheecchiking. With our site growing so swiftly, these Epic Roleplays have served to offer a home for large numbers of roleplayers and have been a key component to keeping large numbers of players engaged while we work to improve our selection of single-thread play-by-post roleplays.
In addition to our Epic Roleplays, we have begun to offer personal sub-forum space for large Multi-Thread Roleplays that don't fit the definition of Epic Roleplays. We now have two multi-thread roleplays opened up: Ages Eternal GMed by @Lazzamore and Requiem GMed by @TrashierThanThou.
Though lagging behind our Epic Roleplays, our play-by-post roleplays are slowly growing in number. In particular we would like to recognize Stahlheim College of Magic GMed by @ChelonianCommander, for its grand-opening that hit the ground running. It is my sincere hope that in time our play-by-post forums will be filled with roleplays as lively and engaging as this one has proven to be for its players.
We have a new website guide setup to help our new users, and I urge everyone to be familiar with it so they can hand it off to people in need: Comprehensive Website Guide
In addition to our website guide we've had three new guides submitted to our Roleplayers' Codex, including a grammar guide by @Nilum, and a T1 PVP Tiers guide by @Drakel. We will be on the lookout in the months to come for more guides to add to our codex!
What we're doing right: Our staff and users alike have been excellent in receiving new members, helping them get situated, and making them feel at home. We've had great success in fronting engaging Epic Roleplays, and making people feel welcome within these roleplays. My expectations have genuinely been far exceeded by the support I continue to witness between our users on a day to day basis.
What we need to work on: Our play-by-post roleplay forums is our weakest point right now. Our bulletin board is flooded with roleplay ideas and interest checks - many of which have had piles of interest - but only a small fraction of these have been making it into the play-by-post forums. If we wish to make January as strong a month for Storyteller's Circle as November and December have been, we should all put some time and effort to helping to strengthen this area of our website.
Sneak peak for January: We have a lot of new projects in the works for January. Among them is the full launch of our Design team. For our artists out there, keep an eye out for news regarding this! We will be on the lookout for artists interested in donating their time to helping people make their roleplays come alive through imagery. A full team dedicated to creating banners, signatures, character sketches, front page slider images, and more for people lays on the horizon.
We will also be launching the first edition of our monthly Storyteller’s Circle comic strip, so keep an eye out for that as well.
Gosh, we have come so far in such a short span of time that it's hard to imagine that we've only been up and running for four weeks! I want to personally congratulate each and every person for a resoundingly successful opening for Storyteller's Circle.
Many thanks are in order to everyone who has dedicated their time and energy into the site.
Foremost I wish to extend personal thanks and gratitude to our entire Warden team, many of whom have been working around the clock to make our new arrivals feel like welcomed guests. Gwazi Magnum in particular deserves a gesture of gratitude for his diligent and tireless attention to our Introduction forum.
I also want to extend thanks to Nilum and those who arrived with him for their hard work in getting us into second place on the top RP sites that opened up the flood gates to our new arrivals.
Lastly every one of our users who have been joining roleplays or working to get their own roleplays up and running have my thanks and gratitude. Without users creating stories, our site loses meaning. You're why we have created this place, and words cannot describe my pleasure at seeing such healthy inspiration, interaction, and enthusiasm from everyone.
I personally look forward to seeing what December will bring! Also as a reminder for those who have been assisting with voting. TopRPSites will be resetting their votes in just over 26 hours. Once this happens all of the site's votes will be reset to 0 to start the race anew. If we want to reclaim our position at the top we'll need a resurgence of voting as soon as the votes reset.
After much hard work and anticipation from all involved, we are proud to finally announce the opening of the Storyteller's Circle roleplay forum!
It is our vision to grow Storyteller's Circle into a thriving community of writers and roleplayers, and to become a place where writers of all skill levels can feel safe and welcome. We offer a supportive staff, numerous features to help support roleplays of all types, a live chat, and above all fresh enthusiasm and inspiration derived from a group of people dedicated to seeing Storyteller's Circle prosper.
If you're a roleplayer looking for a fresh start on a new site who values a healthy community and supportive environment, then I welcome you to come join us at Storyteller's Circle.
Among our offered features, we provide personal forum space for large roleplays or tabletop roleplays that include multiple sub-forums for sorting threads, tabbed threads for organizing information, an integrated bbcode dice system, google document embedding, moderator privileges over the roleplay's forums, and optional co-GMs, and a custom feature on our front page slider. We also offer personal chatroom space for large roleplays.
For those with a competitive flare, I encourage you to swing on by our Arena.
We also support all creative outlets and have made available our Creative Forums for sharing artwork, photography, short stories, poetry and more.
We currently have two large scale roleplays in place that are actively open to new players. They can be found in our Epic Roleplay Forums. We will be working diligently to open more roleplays (and to assist new arrivals with opening their own roleplays) as the site grows.
And lastly make sure you check out our site rules before you dive in.
We hope to see many new faces in the days to come!
It's sea otter awareness month! I guess I should include some facts. They are endangered and internationally protected, a keystone species, the largest of the otter species at up to 5 feet long and 90 pounds (40 kg), live almost entirely in the water, have the thickest fur of any animal, can stay submerged around 5 minutes, and the oldest known otter died at 28 years old!
