Becoming the Monster.

TheGreenerGrey

Self-proclaimed everything expert.
Fifty seven years ago, all we knew was shattered. That day a great rift opened up just off of the western cost of Australia, a dimensional tear hovering just above the ocean floor, larger than any building. A wave of power erupted from the point and sent humanity into darkness. And in the darkness was when they first emerged.

When the power was eventually recovered a week later, we saw the full force of the devastation. Entire cities burnt away and crumbling, people little more than shadows of ash against the walls. If they were lucky. Almost overnight half of the world was turned into a firepit. Entire continents were labelled uninhabitable for even us humans.

All because of them. The Kaiju, a term the public had insisted on. They were what emerged from that rift, titanic beings that at minimum rivalled the size of the towers. They emerged and rampaged with little to no thought, using almost supernatural abilities to destroy all in their path as everything around them was turned into a wasteland.

It was only through the combined might of the world's finest militaries that humanity made it through. Although these monsters were tough, they were not immortal and enough explosive power was able to bring them down. Once borders were properly set up, it became only a matter of time.

You ever hear the saying 'Necessity is the mother of invention'? Well, this is a prime example. In a mere few decades humanity advanced faster than they had in the last century. World unification was achieved (or at least, what was left of it) and although the sciences were flipped on their heads they found themselves advancing at breakneck pace.

It took humanity a mere dozen years to come up with their first solution, taken from an old movie. Titanic, piloted robots coined as 'Walkers' designed to combat the Kaiju on their home turf. Every country contributed, and with the introduction of the Walkers humanity found itself capable of expanding their borders, just that little bit more.

But the Walkers were a temporary solution at best. The rift from which the creatures emerged from was still active, and no inorganic material could pass through unharmed. And so humanity searched for another answer, now under the care of their metallic creations.

It took far longer this time, the solution only being deemed possible a mere three years ago, but we did it. We finally did it. We figured out the Rapid Interchangeable Evolutionary Process (RIEP), the key to taking our world back once and for all. All we had to do was embrace the inner monster.

The RIEP is a process designed by the best minds humanity has to offer, allowing for those that fit very specific criteria to be able use the genes of defeated Kaiju to transform. To be able to freely shift between human and Kaiju forms. To take the fight to them, on the exact same level.

You are one such human, among the billions screened you were one of the very few who fit the genomic requirements to be able to make the process. You are humanity's last hope.

——————————

Welcome to a new RP i’m GMing, where I have reached a new level of not knowing what i’m doing. Do not expect much, this is to have bigass things fighting each other with the occasional guest appearance from giant robots.

As stated in that lovey little preface (that I wrote out of sheer boredom), the world is royally screwed. Kaiju have invaded from a titanic tear in reality and have laid waste to half of the world. Africa is no man’s land, Australia hasn’t been heard from since the incident began and while we’re pretty sure the Russians are still around, no actual confirmation on that one.

You, my dear writer, are a shifter. You are one in almost a billion who meets the specific requirements to take the government funded process to become a Kaiju.

This is not negotiable. Any protests you may have fall on deaf ears. Needs of the many, needs of the few, you get it.

Now the process of Shifter creation is at its core simple. The DNA of two different Kaiju is spliced with yours, along with a cocktail of chemicals you really don’t want to know about, and you gain the ability to freely (and painfully) shift between little human meatbag to skyscraper sized, electric covered meatbag.

Thus, fill out this char sheet:

Name: Antonio Carriedo
Age: 21
Codename: Dogma

Appearance (Human): Antonio stands at an unimpressive 5'9, and is very much on the lean side. Has a head of unkempt brown hair overlooking olive skin and large green eyes that makes him look somewhat surprised most of the time.
Appearance (Kaiju): A bipedal, heavy-set wolf-like creature covered with bone plating resembling armour, with well-developed front limbs ending in claws. Its jaw is overgrown and split across its face, connected with powerful tendons, allowing for it to open and close with greater force. Tail is thick, powerful and elongated, which is more reptilian in nature.

Kaiju Traits:
  • extreme bite strength. Easily able to tear through most everything.
  • bite is highly poisonous.
  • high dexterity, able to move quickly despite being heavily built.
  • able to lift weights many times its own size.
  • bone plates are very difficult to pierce by physical means.
Personality: Antonio is unassuming, a bit of an airhead, quick to trust and befriend others. His friendly disposition and attitude makes him easy to get along with, but he is, however, not very interesting on his own. Due to being lonely and prone to over-attachment, Antonio is eager to please, forgives much too easily, and doesn't ask a lot of questions. Unfortunately, these traits make him easily manipulated.

Backstory: Antonio hails from what used to be the south of Spain , just a breath away from the border defences against the African continent. Antonio grew up in relative comfort, raised by his parents with two sisters, and had expected to continue to do so until a Kaiju targeted and ravaged the city he was then living in. His family fortunately made it out alive, though they were quickly separated once more when they were sent to different resettlement areas to live in after the destruction of their hometown.

Still saddened by the incident that had befallen him, Antonio was at a uncertain stage of his life when he was selected to become a Shifter. Desperate to cling onto any shred of certainty in his life, Antonio embraced the program wholeheartedly. His DNA was spliced with samples taken from the remnants of the wolf Kaiju that ravaged his city and an insectoid one that had been recovered from a nearby location. From thus, Dogma was created.

Name: Dylan Teufel
Age: 15
Codename: Enigma
Appearance (Human): Dylan stands at 5'5, with a rather lean structure. He has a pale complexion, with gentle brown eyes embedded into his face. He let his black hair grow out a bit, but for the most part it was under control.
Appearance (Kaiju): A sort of bipedal bat with claws on the ends of the wings, mostly only used to hook onto surfaces he can't stand on normally. (Walls, ceilings or suspended surfaces, etc.) His eyes have turned lavender, and there's a hidden extra set only used if extra perception is needed. His canine teeth grow into fangs, the top two sharper than the bottoms.
Kaiju Traits:
  • Venomous bite, can daze, stun, or kill; depends on the strength of the enemy
  • Flight, supplied by the wings, of course
  • Invisibility, though it may be more like camouflage in this case
  • Enhanced hearing, easier to detect footsteps and discern what kind of person they're coming from. (That's mostly an example, I'm sure in the actual roleplay there will be more efficient uses for it)
  • Clairvoyance, provided by the extra set of eyes. When opened, these hidden eyes can sense the intentions of an enemy Kaiju, or where a hidden enemy might be.
Personality: Dylan is typically very quirky, and tries to shroud himself in mysteries to the point where it's almost silly how much he tries to hide his background. He can seem slightly stand-offish at first, but he can warm up to people if he spends enough time with them. Having grown up as a middle child, he doesn't always take directions well but if he agrees with them, or knows it's for the best, he'll obey orders the first time they're given.

Backstory: The Teufel family moved pretty often before the Kaijus arrived, though luckily they've never been out of the United States. Their parents sort of... disappeared not long after the youngest was born, and by now they've already forgotten they ever even had parents. The eldest brother is the one mainly taking care of all six of them, and even now they were starting to get used to the walls and the Walkers and even the Kaiju, in a way.

Then came the RIEP and the scannings and all the genetic stuff.. the brothers thought that if they shared the same genes, maybe they'd be lucky enough to stay together. But it didn't quite work out that way. Dylan 'Purple' Teufel was the only one who showed any sign of the proper genes to get the injection, and the government took him right away to help in the fight. So, he got his DNA spliced with that of two Kaiju, as was needed. Dylan's combination turned out to be a bat and an arachnid.

(Let me know if anything needs to be adjusted. I don't want my characters to get too overpowered, but finding the balance is kind of hard.)

Seems good! Approved!
(In Kaiju form the hearing would most likely act like... well, have you seen the second movie in the Dark Knight trilogy? Where batman uses echolocation to create highly detailed maps of the area around him? Yeah, that.)

(Well, the enhanced hearing did come from the bat traits, so that could work. But since I'm still trying to find that balance of not being overpowered, maybe the maps don't have to be super detailed..)

If you wish, then let it be so!
Moderately accurate maps it is!

will try to get a profile up as soon as I get a steady working wifi (aka tomorrow, hopefully)

I have never been more ready. Might need a bit help with making a suitable Kaiju, however. Much as I love the movies and games, I've never roleplayed as one :p

Name: Vincent Stromos
Age: 21
Codename: Storm-front

Appearance (Human):
5'10 with a lean, toned frame. Has vivid green eyes and shaggy black hair. Skin is tanned, with a few scars across his back.

Appearance (Kaiju):
Resembling a more bipedal version of the mythical dragons of old, covered in black scales and with horns atop head and spines running down the length of his body. Has fearsome claws which are capable of shredding most things, and teeth made for tearing into things. Large scaled wings adorn his back, armored against attack and allow him to take to the skies. Has a long prehensile tail which can be used to grab objects or enemies. Has green slitted eyes much like that of a snake.

Kaiju Traits:

Lightning Affinity: Can manifest an electrical charge that surrounds his body creating a physical deterrent, can also project lightning from the mouth as a means of attack.
Vision Change: Can change vision types from standard, to infrared, to night vision, to Electroreception which allows him to see the electric currents running through living things.
Kinetic Scales: Scales that are incredibly durable as well as being layered in a way that disperses kinetic damage.
Density: Has a higher muscle density than most, allowing him to grip and grapple his enemies to the ground.
Razor Wings: Wings that compensate for the higher muscle density also are edged razor sharp, and are used in aerial combat, as well as a defensive strategy on the ground.

Personality: Is very laid back and relaxed, tending to take things in stride instead of dwelling on them. He loves to hang out with friends, and will do anything to make someone smile. However, he can also be cold and malicious, usually to those that try hurting his friends or loved ones, tending to use pain as a means of deterring them from doing it again.

Backstory: Vincent grew up in what was once the United States,. He had a loving family and a simple life. He had always wanted more though, to do something rather than stand behind the protectors the world had created. So he signed up for and was accepted for the gene splicing experiments. He was spliced with the genes of a dragon-like kaiju and a more humanoid one of which the nature of is still being uncovered.

Eel-Dragon thing seems cool, just gotta talk about that Density, but even then nothin' major.

Density: While i'm fine with you being generally stronger, this'll also make you somewhat smaller than the average Kaiju. Your wings will also be affected by this, slowing you down in the air and making you a tad unwieldy (maybe enough that it might make Razor Wings impractical). However, you might be able to get around it a little by using your electiricity to act as a force to physically propell you.

I'm down for that, and I completely understand your reasoning. I'm fine with him being slightly smaller, and using the electricity thing did cross my mind as a means of propulsion. And I was planning for him to be more ground based, and use flight as a resort in case he had to deal with a flying kaiju, and even then his goal would be to get a grip on them and bring them to the ground. Hope that works :3

Right then! Accepted!

Ooh, question, could his Vision Change apply to his human form? Or is that not how it works?
Some abilities will have smaller effects in their human forms. For example, Kayla's character would bave really good hearing as a human. Your Vision change might allow him access to one of the spectrums her can view in Kaiju form.

Name: Leon Jenkins
Age: 25
Codename: Chernobog

Appearance (Human): 5'10 and built like a barrel, with strong limbs and a large gut. Has longish dark hair, wiry beard, and small square glasses.

Appearance (Kaiju): As Chernobog, he looks like the demonic figure from the Disney flick, with stony dark skin, massive bat wings that act as a cloak when not in use, an imposing figure, and hooves like a goat. His mouth is full of pointed teeth and fangs, and two large horns protrude from his deep brow, that covers pitch black eyes. His hair is like a lion's mane that goes down to his shoulders and makes a glorious beard.

Kaiju Traits:
As Big as a Mountain: Chernobog usually stands much taller than the average Kaiju, and has increase strength.
Bloodletter: His fangs and claws are sharp, slicing through anything with ease, and leaving anything fleshy a bloody mess. His horns are also strong and large, boring deep holes into anything he rams.
Blood Frenzy: Drinking this blood of his enemy increases his strength and speed, at the cost of going berserk and throwing all caution to the wind.
Gale Force Winds: Though unable to fly, his massive wings produce extremely strong winds, that can both throw enemies off balance or force them to resist its force, and act as a second pair of arms, further restraining those he grapples.
Black as Night: Chernobog's pitch black complexion assists in making him hard to see in the night, despite his massive size.

Personality: Leon is a quiet man who is constantly thinking up ideas a mile a minute, and is very interested in learning about the nature of Kaiju. He can be often seen in a college or on a computer out of sight, reading studies of zoology and biology, and news and video on Kaiju, to best decipher all he can from their behavior. When he's not using his time to study, he can be found either playing an instrument, writing fiction, or playing games. Never ask him about what he enjoys unless you are ready to lose an hour of your life listening to him ramble.

Backstory: Leon is a prodigy born in the Southern U.S, and though his A-B average showed a decent, if lazy, effort put into school, his intellect was readily apparent, if unfocused and without goal. All ic this changed during his senior year of high school, when his hometown was ravaged and destroyed by a brawl between two kaiju. He was filled with both fear and awe at the moment, and the event has since inspired him to learn more of Kaiju, and his inspiration has since turned to obsession.

He became a scientist hellbent on learning of the kaiju, and when the opportunity came to gain the ability to become one, he was the first to sign the papers. His form was a cross between a kaiju as dark as night that was able to fly, and one that was a chimera, a thing that was a cross between a lion and a ram.

Name
Blair Sinone

Age
18

Codename
Vortex

Appearance (Human)
A petite girl clearly not meant for any kind of physical labor. Her hair falls loosely over the sides of her face, umber in color and cutting off just before her elbows. She has an olive, Hispanic complexion, and a tiny frame. She tends to wear casual clothing, nothing that would physically restrict her. Her dark, green eyes often can be seen staring at nothing in particular. Her body is skinny and nimble, and she herself is short, standing at a whopping 5 feet.

Appearance (Kaiju)
The Kaiju that have been decidedly shoved into her have influenced the appearance of her own Kaiju in a very significant way. The obvious features of an octopus show through in the Kaiju's multiple limbs, slick skin, and unbelievable flexibility. On each prehensile limb, she has suckers that have been coupled with adhesive pads to make for one heck of a climber. The overall size of the Kaiju isn't one of the largest, but what she lacks for in size she makes up for in sheer adaptability and dexterity. Her body appears to be like that of a lizard, though with far more limbs and much slicker, stretchier skin. She is a dark, navy blue in most occasions, but can change color if she focuses. Her head is large, but her eyes are still about as unintimidating as a gecko's would normally be. Her tail is actually different from her other limbs, being much longer and lacking suckers; mainly used as a distraction, as it can be detached.

Kaiju Traits
Nigh-unbreakable grip
The sheer amount of muscle in this Kaiju's boneless limbs allows for her grip and dexterity to be superb; especially if she manages to wrap more than one around something.

Paralyzing bite
Like most octopuses, this Kaiju possesses a paralyzing bite; however, the Kaiju's bite is obviously much more effective and potent.

All-terrain travel
She can climb sheer cliffs, crawl along ceilings, or just slither along the ground without any difficulty; also, at a remarkably quick rate.

Color-changing
This ability is pretty self-explanatory, it allows for her to blend into her environment and utilize different color palettes to blend in or disguise herself as something.

Boneless, soft, rubbery body
Can fit through nearly anything given enough time, as she has the soft body of an octopus. Also, her skin has the affinity of rubber, and resists most forms of electricity.

Personality
Blair is incredibly altruistic and cares deeply about others and what they think. She tries not to let it affect her and her independent nature, but it ends up becoming one of her largest concerns when she's making decisions. This is all hidden behind a calm exterior of slight apathy and ignorance. She tends to zone out when she is relaxing, tuning out other things to the point of alarming unawareness and becomes almost sloth-like. Her general actions are slow and more precise, delicate and graceful as she never wants to be too quick and miss a detail.

She's also incredibly careful, both physically and mentally, her movements showing this. The mental part of this is shown when she sets up 'rules' or barriers in her head that prevent her from doing certain things because she doesn't want the effects of those actions to reflect badly on herself or others. She doesn't know that, really, these barriers she's set for herself are actually hindering her. Her face isn't ever too expressive, as she herself isn't too terribly good at conveying her emotions. She tries to express them in her actions of sincerity and selflessness, as it's one of the few ways she knows how.

Backstory
Blair lived nestled in the heart of America, where she may have been safe but paranoia was rampant. The close-knit community she dwelled in often spoke of the horrors that were Kaijus. She didn't think she'd ever have to face such terrifying beasts; she, however, was wrong, when she was abducted by the government for the DNA tests to see if she was receptive to the splicing. When the results said she was, she was quickly shunned by those she knew; she quickly submitted to the authorities in dejected dismay and was brought to the facility where the splicing would take place. Her DNA was spliced with a menacing octopus-like Kaiju and another Kaiju who could climb any surface it was faced with, the second Kaiju having lizard-esque features and giant, gecko-like eyes.
