Pokemon RP: The Novac Region!

How does evolution work? You decide when (and what)?
Evolutions will stay true to the games up until this point. I will have a list of pokemon that evolve by trading (in game) and give them an "alternative" way for them to evolve without the need to trade them while they hold an item or just by trade in general.

I.e: In the games Seadra evolves when hitting a level and getting traded, in this region a Seadra evolves through experience; it would be "level 45" in game.

Otherwise, if a pokemon lets say like Sylveon, needs "friendship" to evolve, it needs to realistically have a deep bond with their trainer in order for that eevee to actually evolve.

I definitely feel that we've achieved a critical mass of players. Do we have an ETA for RP itself? No rush though. A well set up RP is better than a quick, messy start.

I'm finishing up the map and the structure of how the "pokedex" will work. It will definitely be launched within a week or so as I have that there adult life to lead. The only things missing are the map, pokedex and evolutions.

Question on moves: Are we using the games or the anime to decide what moves can be learnt?

I’m asking because Mightyena is my favourite Pokémon, and uses Shadow Ball in the anime, but can’t actually learn it naturally in the games.

How do you decide what the leveling system will look like? Some Pokemon evolve based on their level. Some on friendship. What will you use to decide where they are for stuff like evolution?

If it can be traced to a part of the anime, the move can be learned and the stats for the move will match the actual move from the game.

In this case, your Mightyena would be able to learn shadow ball!

I think I might've answered this before, or perhaps it's just me since I have been working on this (it's all I do now so maybe lol)

I will come up with a list of pokemon that would usually in the games rely on friendship, or some other variation of its upbringing/environment and make it so they can evolve. For example, an Eevee will be able to become a Sylveon if its bond with its trainer is strong and has been given a ribbon (either earned in a competition or otherwise just given to it)

I will have more specifications then :)

See, that was my question, how will you determine when they have a close enough bond with it's trainer? How will the leveling system work? Sorry, I'm just trying to help.

Character development, I don't plan on taking a lot of novice roleplayers, a bond with another character will show. At the end of the day, would it really be a cause of stress and issue if someone prematurely evolves a pokemon? I'm not creating this based purely and solely on the game, taking from the anime and existing mangas is actually mostly how I'm creating this whole region.

It bears noting that while Pokémon is a game series - a realistic, living Pokémon world would not follow game mechanics to the letter, and would more likely be similar in the way it works to the anime.

Borrowing words from Redditor Hyperion 064 on Ash's Pikachu:

"The anime doesn't work with the level-system the games use. Pokemon in the anime are like actual animals whose skill in battle is determined by battle experience, trainer skill, and genetics, as opposed to the more robotic EV/IV stats of game pokemon.
If the level system was used then Pikachu should be 100 or high 90s just by considering the amount of times Ash used it in battle over the course of 7+ regions"

With that said, game mechanics such as the concept of levels &/or the four-move restriction of the games (to serve as another example) would be far more nebulous and would only serve as rough estimates, but really do not mean much in any real context. If I really wanted to include the "math" behind a level IV/EV though, calculating experience based on battles is something that could be done. I just doubt people will want to join a math club disguised as a pokemon rp.

Ooo~ A Pokemon RP... I've never tried one of these before.

Are you still taking people in? I'd love to participate :D
I'm definitely still taking people in! I just need to gather the stuff I need to get done so we can actually start a recruiting thread! Honestly I'm surprised this many people took interest xD
