Bug Cannot edit posts with rich text editor disabled

[Creative Title Here]
Personally, I really dislike the RTE (Rich Text editor). So I always disable it when I join a forum.

However, I found here that with it disabled, I cannot edit posts at all. I click the edit button, I get the loading bar thing in the top right corner, but the box never actually pops up to edit the post.

When I went back into my preferences and re-enabled the RTE, magically I can edit posts now.
Weird bug.

Any chance it will be fixed so I can edit posts without the RTE?
Thanks!

We'll look into this for you and get back to you later today on it.

While not the core of your issue, a temporary way around it for now would be to manually flip to the normal editor after you click edit on a post. If you click edit post (while rich editor is enabled), in the upper right corner is a toggle button to flip it to the bbcode editor. Less convenient but will give you a way to do it while we're trying to figure out the problem.

Sorry to say, this workaround will have to be what you have to do for a while. I can confirm it's definitely not something that will affect just you. The inline editor box is not pulling up for anyone who has the RTE disabled via account preferences. The bbCode editor edit dialog box should load directly in this case, but it's not.

Toggling into the bbCode editor manually from the RTE (the button Tiko mentions) works as intended both in initial posting, inline editing, and full editing modes.

Not entirely certain what the cause is; whether it's a pathing issue, a server caching mechanism jamming up the works, a broken filepath, or something else entirely.

I will certainly take a look into it, but I can't provide a timeframe on it. If it's something at the server level I'll likely not be able to get it fixed for weeks, since there's a small list of issues there I need to tackle on the backend and I got to parcel out the time I have for them.

The workaround definitely works however, and I do apologize for the inconvenience.

Is there a way to edit posts by loading a new page or something instead of the inline editor?

If you right-click on edit (or click and hold for mobile devices) you can select to open the editing window in a new window. Seems to work even with rich editor disabled in your preferences, just tried it.
