A Strange Town

"I'm already on toilet duty, ya dickwig" Torian grumbled as the man left. "I'm on every bloody duty because your asses are useless!" He always hated that guy, then again, he hated most people at this time of day. With all their movement and living and having better lives than him. "Let's see him talk to me like that when the students get paint gns and go wild, he'll be begging me for..." He cut off his grumbles with a sihg, pushing out onto the street.

Amber wasn't sure what was going on. There was spite in every word. She hadn't heard it in years. "Uh...we don't really care about how far out we are." She said, even more cautiously. She could hear the spite, despite how pleasant the woman was acting. "And, yeah. I think we are done." Gale and Marina nodded, also trying to figure out what on earth was wrong with this place.

Zander found himself waking up in his bed, still wearing last night's clothes. He looked down at his feet and found Roger the pug sleeping deeply. He then remembered he had guests, so he got up and headed to the kitchen, where he saw Leon.

"Hey man, you alright?"

Zander had no idea who he was, but he wasn't to worried about him being around. He just hoped he wasn't hurt.

"I'm Zander by the way."

The head of school life coldly glared at him, before deciding to take the alternative path to the school. Luckily, Torian’s house was relatively close to the school, so he would be able to reach there quickly. Of course, when he got there, it would be a big chore, since on top of cleaning, he’s got building duty now, because someone blew up the lab.

“Hmm, alright. Well um...You can head out and introduce yourself or something and come back later, I’ll collect your papers and sort out where you live, alright? Ta-ta!”
With that cold statement, she quickly grabbed the sheets of papers and walked away somewhat irritated.

Well, at least they’re free to do their own thing?

Amber glanced at her two friends. "Now what do you two think that was all about?"
"No idea," Gale admitted. "I don't think we've had that cool a reception in quite some time."
"Yeah," Marina agreed. "Anyway, there's not much else we can do here, so let's get an idea of the lay of the town."
"Sounds good." Amber nodded. And the three left to explore the town.

"You know, one day I'm just gonna jump ship, maybe lay low a few days just so I can kick back and watch them" He started moving debris aside, poking at whatever concoction of chemicals caused the explosion as he imagined the chaos he assumed would ensue without him. "Oh yes, it would only take two seconds before they start crying out 'Where's Torian? I need someone to change my diapers?', an extra five seconds for a juice box break before they start breaking down into tears that they might actually have to act like adults for once, but of curse they still have room for nap time."

Belleville was fairly empty, since it was work time for most workers, since most worked in the late morning to afternoon. There wasn’t too much people out, aside from the children, some shopaholics and elderly. The people with later work times often slept in. At least the shops were open, and there were some food samples outside some stores.
There was a woman who was outside, Jennifer. She noticed Amber and waved.
“Ah, Hello Amber! Are these your companions? Have any of you got a job yet? It would be great if you got a free lance job like me, since I’m in charge of finding new trinkets around town and working them.”
Once again, she was only making small talk, it was clear to people who can read others, that she was sort of impatient to start the job.

Luckily, no one heard him, since it was class time approaching recess. The lab was disgusting, aside from the purple glowing mixture and vials of chemicals everywhere, the idiot who blew up the lab also somehow blew off a bit of the wall that was covering the outside so if a small child wasn’t careful, they could fall out the hole and then there would be legal issues. That was probably why the head gave him building materials, to patch it up.
“Ah, la, la la~ Someone blew up the lab, that someone who I’m tempted to stab~ The murder would be great for my news report, but I hate having to go to court~!”
Well, there shouldn’t be anyone outside the classroom, since it was classtime. And it was coming from outside as well.

Amber and her crew approached Jennifer. It made Amber just a little nervous to see so few people out and about. Mornings weren't always the busiest, but still. "Marina and Gale probably do," Amber said. "And yes, these are two of my friends. This is Gale, and this is Marina." She gestured to the appropriate person as she said their names. Freelancing sounded interesting. "Gale, Marina, this is Jennifer. She's been nice to me so far." Marina nodded.
"Is she the one who wanted us to do a job?" Gale asked, quietly, though loudly enough that Marina could here.
"Yes," Amber answered equally quietly.
"Got it. Well, Jennifer, it's nice to meet you."

Leon turned and walked over to Zander. "Hello Zander, my name is Leon. Listen, thank you so much. If you hadn't shown up back there, I would've been screwed." He looked to the old book he recovered. "Do you have any idea what this is?"

@Maluon

"Nice to meet you Leon, and your'e quite welcome."
Zander was rather intrigued by the the old book. it was indeed very old.
"Looks to be someone's diary. I'm guessing Victorian era at the very latest, Its been through hell, that's for sure."
Zander then remembered something he had,
"Hang on a sec."
He went and got his old tape recorder from beside the radio.

Leon didn't know much about history, he was never properly educated back in his hometown. He awaited for Zander to return, looking for more food in the meantime.

Zander came back with his old tape recorder.
"So i recorded some weird dialogue from the radio station with this through my radio that seems to have happened right before you guys showed up there."
The tape recorder was from the cold war era, and even looked like a briefcase.
"Maybe the voices on here will tell us more."
Zander was hoping it would be helpful

"What the hell were these little shits playing with? Is the teacher getting them radioactive?" He pokes and prods at some of the purple goo, before moving to sweep up glass into a corner by the blown off wall. At the ridiculous chorus of the random outside, Torian stapped a broom into the ground and growled out. "Hey! No unsanctioned, loud and couscous singing on School Grounds, Dirtbag!"

“Gale and Marina? How very nice to meet you two!”
Shaking bother their hands briefly, Jessica subtly directed them over to the alley way where they wouldn’t be as suspicious, and regardless of if they followed as deep into the alley as she did or even went in, she began speaking relatively quickly and quietly so they could get it and no one else.
“Well, uh. Amber, pretty much, tell your crew. The council members have some sort of necklace shards, each of them. I was wondering that if we stole them and replaced them with fake shards, then we would piece the strange shard trinkets together. You kids got it? Please try to pull it off, I’ve got money to spare, and I can murder a rich guy otherwise.”

The singing stopped, and the door opened, with a tall but childish girl poking her head out and asking air-headed,
“What so wrong about singing my thoughts? I’m not a dirtbag, I’m a school girl. I was at the nurse office thanks to the boy who blew the lab up.”
Giggling slightly, the girl then commented rather disconcertingly, as in, she was being overly innocent and childish for her age;
“I was planning to get him back by pouring the green liquid on his hair, and then setting it on fire! Isn’t that a nice punishment? He set my precious project papers on fire as well, so maybe I’ll set fire to his dog as well...”
“Please don’t! You’ll get into trouble!”
“Ahaha...Tommy, it was a half-joke, half-truth! The lab sure is a mess though...What a sad janitor.”
Behind her, it seemed there was a freshman boy as well? Why were they just allowed to roam around, or did they lie about going back to class to the nurse?”
@Kanassa

"Um, how about we avoid murder," Amber suggested. "Still, replacing them with fakes is an interesting idea. I'm guessing they're powerful in some way?"

A few drops of unknown liquid were thrown from the bucket he was holding as he turned around, dripping over the edge and flying at the girl. "Because your thoughts are dumb, your lyrics generic, your structure cringeworthy and that voice... Urg, it's like cats and nails on a chalkboard teamed up for the Death Penalty" He moved back to moving pieces of debris away from the site in need of cleaning, setting the building materials near the hole. "I get it, you're a very cool little munchkin who loves talking about brutality and murder. Save me the try-hard trash, kiddo" He still didn't like to think about the more embarrassing phases of his childhood. "Yes, yes, Sad Janitor who has to deal with you, Fluffy"

Look over the lab again, he had an idea, an exceptionally bullshit idea. Which he was usually good at. "Seeing as you're here and not in class or in the nurse's office, I guess I'll enact Section 223 under section B of the School's Rulebook" He was making it up, but he was pretty sure that not even the staff read that damn rulebook. It was just so draining! "To put it more simply for your small brains..." Within seconds he was by them, thrusting brooms into their hands with the smile of a mass murderer who just trapped his next victims. "For the next hour or so, you're sad janitors!"

As he listened to the recording, Leon began to feel nauseas. These people were sick and twisted, but he became a monster in an effort to stop them. When the recording stopped, he tried to piece it together. "So, they were looking for a book of sorts, as they mentioned the pages were covered in blood. They killed the guy on the radio but failed to turn the radio off. They killed one of their own, #7." He picked up the old book. "Is this what they were after? And I must ask, how did you get that recording?"

"I recorded it myself. They failed to to realize the station was still broadcasting, so I recorded anything that came through."
Zander realized it wasn't something most people do, but it was something that could easily be considered evidence.
"If i had to guess, this is probably what they were after, considering something like this isn't exactly the usual radio station fare."

Leon grinned. "Good work, guess that's how you found us." He looked to the book once again. "Well, if it ain't a scroll on cryomancy, then I can't do much with it." He turned to Zander once more. "So, we have 2 pieces of evidence, but one is more or less an enigma to me. Can you figure it out, or do we need to find some help?"

Stopping for a moment, Jennifer looked back while placing her hand to her chin, as if in deep thought.
“Oh, no. I’m not really sure, but I’ve had a nagging feeling about this place, that something is wrong, and finding out what those shards they keep secure are may be useful. Only about a couple come out though, so we need to replace them so they don’t suspicious. Right?”
————————
The girl made a whiny noise and then came through the door while staring at Torian. Although the boy was scared, the older girl took the mop and smiled.
“Yes, yes I know, my voice is squeaky, deal with it please! Oh, this is a mess. I can’t bear to have it so messy!”
The girl seemed to have no doubts about it, and began sweeping the rubbish out the hole in the wall, although that probably won’t be safe if someone was under it. Still she seem to be pretty chill about it, although not quite so sane likely. It can’t be said for the boy, who silently and slowly came in. While he began mopping, he whisper to Torian.

“Don’t worry about her, the town found her in the graveyard with wounds. She only gets stranger from there, she says simply ridiculous things! Seriously, Why would she break into someone’s house to steal recordings?”
“I can hear you! Are you talking bad about me? Well, I know you are, so no need to answer. Just sweep.”
“I think she’s mental. Actually mental, not just strange.”

When Leon looked at the diary again, he might have noticed something poking out slightly. It was probably glued to the diary and hidden, but with good eyes, he might see it. It was a necklace, a primitive one at that. Just rope and a decorated, sharp orange stone. Only the rope was showing.
