Twisted Gifts

But yeah I just think this is a cool premise, that seems very promising. I never realized how similar premise and promise were .-.

(@Beebasaur @_BB_ @garlic We are going to attempt to revamp this and start during lunch. Please tell me if you will be trying to rejoin or will leave.)

Today the lunch was some chicken salad with complementary bread. It seemed to be soggy, but the chicken seemed fresh and the bread wasn't stale. All in all it was a good meal, and as usual kids were vying to get seconds to no avail as the lunch servers were rather strict with the portion sizes. Each child was given exactly the right amount to give them how much they needed based on their age size metabolism and the affects of their gifts twist. Some were being slightly starved for experiment purposes, but none of the kids knew that.

The large cafeteria was full of kids, the long tables with connected benches being packed. Younger kids tended to keep together, and the few tables with seats instead of a bench had been claimed by some of the older kids known to boss around the kids with their gifts, and they in particular were being watch by the overseers. The overseers patrolled around the edge while caretakers helped those that needed assistence in being feed, one of which was a very tired Shohi.

After injuring his wing he had been rushed to the medical wing to be examined but was released for lunch after it was determined to simply be a broken feather that needed plucking. They had given him medicine to numb the pain, though it also made him very drowsy.

Ember walked into the cafeteria, taking a quick glance at the irritated caretaker and sat down next to the bird guy- shohi. “Hey I... heard... you got hurt. Did they take you to the hospital...” he snickered and made a goofy smile “wing?” He fell over laughing at his terrible joke and decided to make more. “I’ve always wanted to fly an airplane... could you take me under your... wing?” At this point he realized shohi might find this offensive and stopped. Ember sighed. “ I’m sorry if that came off as rude, it’s just that everything since I first got here (yesterday) has been so serious, and I thought I could maybe... lighten the mood...?” He looked at shohi “my name is Ember. Yours is Shohi, right?” He had a feeling that was his name.

Josh had ended up sitting a few people away from the kid with bird wings, and his eyes glanced over to him and the other one who was just sitting down. He normally never talked to anyone during lunch, or ever really, unless it was something simple or useful. He just never thought it'd be worth it. And every once in a while he convinced himself that no one would want to talk to him anyway. Anyways, he watched the two younger kids for a few seconds as they talked, and smiled a little after looking away.

Ashton sat down carefully, both hands against the wall behind him as he lowered himself with a whince. After the incident with Shohi he was helpfully reminded by one of the medical staff that he would be testing after breakfast.

Sighing softly Ashton subconsciously crossed his legs and leaned his elbows on them, head resting in his hands. He had no idea why the scientists insisted on daily training, often requiring him to strip down to his underpants and run obstacle courses and do jumping jacksjacks, supposedly to 'help his motor abilities'. They didn't of course, instead leaving Ashton feeling sweaty and tired along with adding new bruises to his collection.

His stomach took that moment to growl loudly, reminding Ashton that he was quite hungry and should probably get something to eat before his next tests. Ashton ignored this though, instead just pulling down his shirt as if to silence it. He went back to his silent brooding, only pausing every once and a while to move his legs out of the way of other children, having opted for a seat on the floor next to the door instead of a table.
((ashton is open for interaction :] ))

Ellen came in later then some others, due to a factor of her power hampering her, tiredness, and getting lost in the halls. She came in with Melody, who tried to make sure Ellen found the way to the cafeteria and stay safe during the way. Tried. The fact that the two came in late showed that someone didn’t know directions. The scientist whisper comfortingly to the girl.
“Here we are, phew..so, the food is over there and, uh, just fit in with some other kids like you, alrighty?”
“I’m not stupid. I know what to do. Thank you, by the way.”

Just like that Ellen left the surprised Melody, went up and got her food. She looked at it miserably, it wasn’t very much, that was for certain. A small girl didn’t need that much food, espically one who could slow her metabolism.
Where to sit?
Standing by the door, Ellen had decided not to sit with the others. She knew she was a bit uncomfortable to be around, and her powers made talking to people really annoying. Moving a little bit, she bumped into something she didn’t see before, and turned around.
“Oh, uh, sorry. Ashton, I didn’t see you.”
It was lucky she kept her grip and didn’t spill her lunch.

Melody frowned. Ellen was not cute at all! But still, maybe that girl had a soft side underneath the hardened stoic personality, just like a pie, when the sweet filling pours out...
Great, now she just made herself hungry.

Well, anyways, she was a caretaker, and she had to help the kiddos. Most of them seemed good enough and didn’t need caring for, which made her job easier. That bird boy, Shohi. She popped in her head between Ember and Shohi, interrupting the conversation.
“Hello! Everything going alright here?”
@Rachel Rider @Fatality

“Oh!” Ember jumped a little. “Yeah, it’s just...” Ember looks at Shohi, then at the chicken salad then at Shohi, then at the chicken, and once more back at Shohi. “Is it like.... ok if I eat this? Or would that be somewhat disrespectful... because... you know... you’re like half bird, and a chicken is also a bird” .-. Ember was genuinely unsure of this... (*cough cough* @Rachel Rider ... take your time I guess )

Ashton was jarred out of his thoughts by a light tap and someone speaking to him. Turning around he spotted Ellen and a smile came across his face, of course she couldn't see that. "It's alright, you wanna sit down?" he suggested, scooting aside a bit to make room for her. She seemed to be gripping her food rather tightly, which was probably why it still rested on her tray instead of splattered all over him. He couldn't help but notice how little there actually was on her plate, though he obviously didn't bring this up.

"It's nice to see I'm not the only one who came late to lunch" Ashton remarked, intending it to sound funny though regretting the words the moment they left his mouth. He has no way to know for sure considering how little he had actually spoken with Ellen, but something told him that she probably wouldn't want to talk about her power's twist, something he could understand.

“....”
Ellen appreciated his gesture, and after a long moment of staring, or analysis according to Ellen, she sat down next to Ashton. The food on her tray was notabably smaller then yesterday, like, it was barely enough. She really will have to file a complaint later on for the calling of more food, although she was pretty certain no one would listen. Well, maybe a few but..

While on the inside, she was thinking and planning, on the outside, Ellen was biting down on a chicken she put in her mouth, seemingly spacing out. It took a long time for her to reply, and even then, she was staring away vacantly.
“...As some people say, two birds of a feather, flock together. I wonder where some of the other children are...they are very late, since even I surpassed then.”

@Beebasaur

(@Rachel Rider, I hate to complain, but I am sort of waiting on you, so if you could respond I would really appreciate it)( you should read up a bit)

(Sorry, family stuff and on a trip rn)

“It’s fine. I’m eating it.” Shohi sighed, “Jusst because I have wings doesn’t mean I’ve somehow gained an affiliation with all of bird kind.” He almost grumbled that last part. If anything he resented birds more. They were free for the most part, something he couldn’t enjoy the luxury of.

(I think just my own introduction put me into a little bit of a corner here. I'm gonna try and wedge myself out of that corner, haha.)

Hearing someone else get into the nearby conversation, or at least attempt to, Josh looked up. Of course, he should have been able to tell just from the choice of words that it was a caretaker. Somehow seeing her there brought a little smile to his face. Since he had gotten settled in here, he'd felt a strange fascination or connection with them, that he didn't really want to admit to himself, but he occasionally wondered about the qualifications to being a caretaker. Obviously he'd have to be older, but he wondered if it'd be possible for someone with a 'gift' to become a caretaker later, after they became adults. He doubted it, though. Now he wanted to say something, at least to Melody, but he didn't know what he'd say and he couldn't really think of anything useful. He may have mumbled a small hello under his breath but he doubted anyone would hear.

(Well, this might not help my case, but I tried.)

((May just need a bit more wedging to get yourself out of that corner bud. Melody is a sociable person, but her hearing skill is as bad as her subtlety. AKA she’s thick headed in both ways. Maybe a little more interaction?

-Melody))
