World Building Group Thread (our RP name is a WIP) [OOC]

Vergothian. 100% my vote. Awesome name, Draco.

One more question: I seem to have forgotten we are in space as well here. Does our empire control the other planets too? Maybe other systems? Or do we want to put weirder aliens in those outside places?

Also, gimme a moment and I'll set up a "Current Vote" tab for what we are currently voting on.

Thanks, that came off the top of my head. I think if the empire controls more than one planet it should control the whole planet, unless the planet isn't the main planet the empire comes from.

I vote that the empire controls, at most, the planet. Namely because our currently agreed scope is upon the planet itself and with the solar system being part of the backdrop. Not that we couldn't expand into that, but I'd like to start with the planet itself. Perhaps our empire is working on finishing conquering the planet, if we go with the suggested conquest idea, with our eyes already set on the horizon of the solar system and beyond. Naturally, it won't go as smoothly as all that.

Culture-wise, I'd fall in line with the idea of noble houses that the king/queen/emperor/empress needs to continuously court in various manners so that they can keep armies on the frontlines and avoid rebellion. To further implement this, perhaps install a caste system that our society has to uphold. Meaning that, if a soldier caste is implemented, moves like simple and sheer conscription couldn't be done except in emergency. Which leads to the leader of our empire/kingdom unable to raise a mass number of forces easily. Thus, they must court the various noble houses for their caste members. Naturally, breaking from your caste, in a manner that still has you as a part of society, is very difficult.

Furthermore, this builds into @Draco Shadowdragon ideas on morality. Education, good morals, and hard work are now framed in being the best member of your caste you can be. To put a spin as to why drugs are illegal, let it have been discovered, or manufactured, a drug that radically increases a workers production ability. However, it gradually killed the user. As one of the greatest triumphs of the worker caste, they were able to ban the drug, and horrible drugs in general, throughout the empire. No more than a century ago. Of course, this has begun to give rise to the other people pushing back against the caste system. Yay for internal problems. Similarly, just because its illegal, doesn't mean that some noble houses feed them to their worker caste members.

Well, that was more than I originally thought. Had an idea and my imagination ran with it. Let me know what you all think and tell me if I'm being too specific in my ideas.

My only addendum to that thought would be that it starts to dip into the individual cultures of our provinces, and that individual way of life should be able to be different in different places. The idea was that we have a lot of personal freedom with our own areas of the Empire, though I can second that the empire only controls this planet.

Ah, indeed. Then the idea that we vote upon much of the overall culture becomes mildly moot under that idea. Which I like. It allows us each to have our personal flavored place with unique moral codes and cultures. What then would be the thing to vote upon would be the culture of the "core" of the empire. Meaning the faction in charge. Unless, of course, we agree upon one of us who will play that faction.

guys, a little note, but my grandmother is currently bedridden. I need to stay with her at the hospital and they don't allow wifi in the hospital I'm in, from laptop, phone or other devices. So I'm going to be gone for most of the day. I will however attempt to stay in the loop and reply once a day.

I like both names, and I agree, bloodshed would make for much more interesting roleplay. Plus it’s more realistic :/

Did we agree on anything yet? I have 2 pages of posts to read and little time to do it.

Also if we're still doing factions, I want to make a factions of people who have been digitized then implanted into robots to achieve immortality at the cost of their humanity.

I may be incorrect in saying this, but I believe it to be ok to begin working on our personal province/noble house. For anyone who wants to do that, of course. Such things should be posted up here so we can all see them and make votes and edits as needed. Namely in regards to technology and making sure its sensible. EG, having transwarp like tech when we're an empire who still mainly operates on one planet, doesn't make sense. But that will give people something to do while waiting for the finishing votes on the history of the kingdom and the kingdom's name.

After all, given the number of people here, we have to both be patient but not stagnate in our creation while waiting. Or, in other words, create away! It'll all come together eventually.

That's completely correct, Shadras. Would have said the same sooner but the past couple of days have been busy.

Now that we have our ducks in a row, I'll make a page to store information on provinces, and you guys start putting the information up here for me to add to it.

Sorry I haven't responded much either. I was thinking about doing a province in the caverns. I was thinking the area might have one major population center. I was thinking it could be part of the main kingdom. I was thinking an area like that might not have been naturally settled but built around a military industrial complex and some Research and Development like places maybe. Seems like underground would be practical for those and then having a population center sprouted up there to support those industries. Just kinda brain dumping if anyone has thoughts feel free to add. I'll try to work on that more when I have time. :p

@Sokka that sounds like a pretty neat idea. Such a place could have developed the large population by also being at the point of being on an underground highway that cuts through a mountain range to the capital. Or the capital is in the mountains and it's still a highway to the capital. That way, this place also acts as a stop gap for it while being close enough that our overlord of the empire can keep a close eye on the research going on and making sure nobody gets any funny ideas on how to use it.

Alright, I've got a faction in mind. I'm calling it: House Shial'Kot. They originate and live in the misty and volcanic swamps of the Northern lands, perhaps named Toth. I'll list out a bulleted abbreviation of what they are. Then, in my next post, give a more detailed, narrative, history of this "noble" house. Please comment, critique, and make suggestions as all of it is open to revision.

House Shial'Kot
  • An ancient house who's history stretches as far back as history covers.
  • Despite the sometimes warring counties, provinces, and, through history, House Shial'Kot has remained united with itself and has only truly warred with other factions through history when attacked. Although they have often raided various lands, before being sworn into the empire.
  • House Shial'Kot has only minor resources to exploit due to their swamp lands.
  • House Shial'Kot remains relevant in current politics through it supplying assassins, commandos, spies, and bodyguards to the overlord.
  • They were and are often contracted by other Houses to commit nefarious acts, leading to widespread unpopularity by the Houses. However, they never will directly strike at the overlord's house and will only supply bodyguards to them.
  • Due to their old raiding lifestyle and now royal backing, House Shial'Kot has a variety of technology from the various provinces scattered across and beyond the empire.
  • The great-great-greatgrandparent of the current ruler tried, and failed, to conquer House Shial'Kot.
  • House Shial'Kot was then later won into the empire through a game of cards by the current ruler's grandparent. Few know what happened during that game.
  • Culture-wise: House Shial'Kot is a tightknit group of various races that exist in small clans that hone and train their skills through competition and against the natural environment. There is respect and camaraderie between the groups as they work to maintain, what they feel, as true martial superiority above the other houses through personal might, rather than sheer numbers. People who go into the swamp, and are not under the protection of a noble in some form such as military liasons, diplomats, etc, are taken as new community members and spouses as per ancient rules. This is tolerated due to their previously stated importance to the crown and that it doesn't happen too often in modern day. Namely by fools who don't believe the stories, those who actually want to join, or people who think they can challenge the commandos of House Shial'Kot.
  • The current head of House Shial'Kot is Matron Myrtressa Kom'Mok.
Again, this is merely an overview and everything in this and the next post is subject to edits and change. Let me know what you think!

Hey everyone, Chel sent me a message over discord today and wanted me to relay that his grandmother is being released from the hospital and as of tomorrow he will be able to post more regularly.

Glad to hear sounds like that's good news! I hopefully should be able to post more over the weekend and work on this idea some. Quick question though on the Main kingdom for a royalty are we going with an imperial family with an emperor/empress or a king/queen?

That is a good question. Hm... My vote is for an Emperor of some variety. I kinda like where Shadras was going with calling them 'the Overlord', in fact.
