"How cold of you," Jensen said knowingly and dryly to Jihl, as though having expected that kind of outcome from the woman. To that end, the man kept his machine pistol's aim fixated on the monster, taking care to try not to accidentally hit the bizarre child attached to it. Easier said than done, all things considered, but at the same time, not quite as difficult as one might expect.

Especially when one was a trained gunman to begin with before the augmentations even came to him.

Switching to semi-automatic mode, he took the shot as the monster attempted to dive back into the water, having calculated the shots to aim for the monster's weak spot with an acceptable margin of error to make sure he didn't hit Pinocchio!

Lara had been off on her own,. gathering supplies and food for herself, and what had been happening since her return?

A monster had attacked the group, that's what. Great. Luckily for them, Lara was experienced with this kind of shit.

Quickly drawing her black Compound Bow, Lara sets an explosive arrow on th ebeadt's sights and aits for it to come crashing to the surface once more.

"I swear, I can't leave for five minutes.."

Meanwhile it seemed the group had found the monsters weak spot as it reeled back in pain as the group attacked the face under the armor. Pinocchio being stuck to its face made the monster to have a hard time to lower its armor. Seeking some slight respite it would attempt to dive underwater to try and get the attackers of itself.

Sora dived into the water after Pinnochio and the monster. With Pinocchio holding the armor open, Sora stuck the end of his Keyblade inside, towards the true face. He cast Blizzard, sending a shot of ice towards the monster's true face, and tried to wedge himself inside the armor as well to help Pinocchio keep it open.

" I thought you said that you knew nothing about the quest. How do you know that if we can't beat this one lake monster than the quest is already lost?" He asked her curiously, not sure what that meant if she knew that.

Ramza would only join in the fight if things got desperate to the point of him needing to cut. It wasn't that he thought he was stronger than the others - he didn't want to get in the way and was used to helping out in the background. He watched the fight in earnest, but turned a quiet ear to what the rest of the group was talking about.

"I prefer the word pragmatic," Jihl responded back watching as Jensen fired his weapon towards the monster.

An audible groan escaped from Jihl before quickly gaining her composure with a smile. "I do not know how your world is, but creatures like that are part of the flora and fauna of my native universe. So it's quite clear that if you can not defeat a simple beast then you wont get far on this journey."

The ice spell hit its mark causing the monsters helmet like shell to freeze in spot. No matter how hard it tried it couldn't cover its face. Seeing that it couldn't get this person off it no matter how hard it tried it proceeded to break the surface again speeding at full force towards the shoreline to knock Pinocchio of its face as well as attempt to break the ice surrounding its head.

With non-combatants far enough away from the fight and the strategy to deal with this creature becoming obvious, Aya didn't have any need to say anything. Simply pulling out her pistol, she aimed for the creature's face and fired.

Of course, she made sure to not hit the boy who clung to its weak point. That would be a little unfortunate.

Shelke joined Two in her assault and sank her ligthsabers right into the eyes of the creature. It roared out in pain and instead of bashing against the shore as it originally planned its corpse slumped up on the sand lifeless. "To think a creature like that lived in these waters." Jihl made her way back to where the group had been fighting the monsters and gave it a look over. "Curious that it hadn't attacked before this. Then again..." She looked over some of the people in the group. "We never decided on disturbing the water by flinging our bodies in." She sighed and turned around. "I suppose we have gotten what we came for. Perhaps it's time to finally begin our journey. Don't you all think so?"

"You almost make it sound like that kid intentionally jumped in." Maribel huffed haughtily as she looked at the monster's corpse in disgust. "Bah, let's just go already. Looking at this thing hurts my eyes..." She shivered.

"Hey, Pinocchio was it? You alright?" She asked, placing her fists on her hips, before side eyeing Hiro and the boy he jumped in to save earlier. "Same goes for you two."

Hiro gave a sigh of relief and nodded to Maribel, before looking down at Chris and looking him over for any possible wounds.

"I guess that monster was just a warm-up, not that we're lacking in heat," Sora said with a laugh. Despite some of the group nearly dying, he still seemed bright and chipper, ready ro take on an even tougher challenge, should it arise.

"Very well then. Grab your water." Jihl looked over to Chris wrinkling her nose slightly before addressing Charles. "Keep your offspring on a leash, would be a shame if we lost him in the desert."


With that they continued on leaving the lush oasis behind. The trek among the sand dunes was daunting, but the water as well as some of the fruit they gathered with them helped negate some of the heat the suns were blasting down on them. The desert itself seemed endless stretching to all sides as far as the eye could see. If they couldn't find a place to rest in a few hours time then there would be trouble.

Suddenly into the distance Shelke noticed something. "What is that?" Something was whipping up the sand and moving rapidly towards them.

"Hard to say," Jihl responded squinting her eyes at the dust cloud. "It seems far to centralized to be a sand storm. Jensen." She turned to face the cyborg. "You're filled with some useful devices. What does your eyes see?"​

The battle from what felt like hours ago seemed to end as quickly as it began, as Geno and Mallow were already on the ground and moving along with the the rest of the group through the sun-bleached sand dunes that rolled over the horizon like a still sea of yellow. The blazing heat didn't appear to have any effect on the walking, talking wooden doll nor the waddling cloud-person.

Geno kept most of his wooden vessel hidden beneath his bright blue-and-gold cloak as he walked alongside Mallow, who was using his Froggie Stick as a walking stick. "Jeez, Geno... you sure you don't wanna take a nap or something after that battle? We've been walking for awhile now and you aren't even a little bit tired?" Mallow asked his comrade, yawning and rubbing his eyes.

"Heh. You should know by now that I don't need rest, Mallow. Even if I did, I can't afford to be sleepy on the job now. We have work to do."

Mallow tilted his head (or... his body?) and shot the puppet a curious glance. "What do you mean? I-I mean... I know we got to get out of here as soon as we can, but it's not like it's the end of the world. You don't get stressed or anything like that?"

Geno abruptly froze in his tracks. Mallow nearly bumped into him, but stopped himself.

"...Hm. Let's just say I've become interested in what's going on in this world," he contemplated with a thoughtful tone, staring off into the endless desert horizon. His flat, focused eyes betrayed the convicted tone of his voice. "It'll become our problem soon enough, I think."

"D-don't sound so ominous! Even if it does, our world's already survived invasions from... other wor--"

"Oh, I'm not talking about that. I mean that," Geno casually moved a wooden hand from beneath his cloak, pointing in the direction of the whipping sands.

"W-wha???! Another fight already!?" Mallow stumbled back by his reaction alone, holding up his staff defensively with both hands while Geno wordlessly moved back his cloak to reveal the rest of his body, his pointing hand quickly shifting into the warm barrel of a gun.

"Right..." Jensen grunted with nothing witty to say in response to Jihl at the implication of being a walking collection of useful gadgets. With that said, the man's eyes were covered by small lenses protruding from the machines on his temples, and he tapped into the Wayfinder Radar System within him, as well as the Smart Vision.

Even without his retinal augmentations, one could easily tell that indeed, this was no storm coming, but rather, something more deliberate. But what exactly was it, the man could only try harder to identify as it gradually grew closer to everyone.

It was honestly embarrassing how little use she had in this group. Seriously, it was like she was at the kids' table with that little superhero kid! Man, why did she drop out of karate, anyway? And the Girl Scouts? And cut PE Class so often? Okay, well, once she got out of here, she'd be sure to sign up for a class at the YMCA...assuming she wasn't turned into monster chow along the way.

Hiro gave Jihl a displeased look at how she looked at Chris. Huffing, he pointed to Chris, then himself with furrowed brows, as if trying to communicate that the young fisherman himself would look out for the boy.

"Eh? You gonna let the kid tag along with us and watch him?" Maribel spoke up with a raised brow. How she could clearly understand must of really meant that they knew each other so well that-

"Bah, whatever makes you happy I guess." She shrugged, before heading out with the rest. Hiro nodded, patting Chris' head in reassurance that big bro Hiro was gonna do his best.


As for that odd sandstorm the group eventually stumbled upon afterwards, Maribel narrowed her eyes at it while Hiro looked thoughtful, as if trying to determine a kind of strategy should they have to fight another type of monster.

"You get used to monsters, no matter how ugly they are, if you run into them enough." Maribel sighed tiredly, before shooting a pointed glare towards Hiro, who avoided looking her way on purpose.

It totally wasn't his fault!

It's totally his fault. Maribel thought before returning her attention to the sandstorm coming their way. Ugh, she was sick of sand and didn't want to see it for another one hundred years.

Indeed it was no storm coming their way. With his augmentations Jensen could see what it was, bright as day.

Monsters, a whole flock of them. If there had ever been an apex predator, this thing had probably devoured it and taken its place. There were five of them and they seemed to be running with a purpose. Wait, make that four. The one that was tagging a little behind had disappeared into the dust cloud.

Jensen soon realized that these monsters weren't running because they were on the prowl. There motions seemed erratic, instinctual.They were running due to fear. "What do you see Jensen?" Jihl asked the man. "Are we to ready ourselves for yet another battle?"​

Indeed, if these monsters had any semblance of sentience beyond pure instinct, like even some of the most basic of animals, they would have been moving in a more organized fashion. Jensen even dared to entertain the crude thought of comparing them to his old squad when he used to work with SWAT, and how out of sync they were.

Which could have only meant one thing. Only one thing could have prompted such a response.

He briefly considered drawing his machine pistol, but decided against it when he realized it. "No," he answered Jihl, taking a few steps back, "They're not deliberately running toward us. They're running away from something. We need to get our of their way, now!"

"Everyone get moving then! I can get us some time!"

Sora pointed his Keyblade to the sky. "Stop!" he yelled, summoning rays of light at the end of his weapon. The light shot towards the group of monsters, freezing whatever they hit in place for a short period of time. Hopefully this could freeze the momsters and the oncoming dust cloud as well. After using this spell, Sora looked worn out. He ran out of the path of the stampeding beasts perfectly fine, but it appeared his magic energy was drained for the time being.
