Aya had no issue with simply running away. It made sense, there was no need to meaninglessly engage the local fauna. While trying to keep an eye out for the others in case they needed help moving faster, she only had one thing to ask as they ran.

"If the monsters are running from something, I don't think it's a good idea to stay out in the open. Can those eyes of yours find a good place to hide?" she asked Jensen, her normal eyesight not being of much use.

Indeed, if these monsters had any semblance of sentience beyond pure instinct, like even some of the most basic of animals, they would have been moving in a more organized fashion. Jensen even dared to entertain the crude thought of comparing them to his old squad when he used to work with SWAT, and how out of sync they were.

Which could have only meant one thing. Only one thing could have prompted such a response.

He briefly considered drawing his machine pistol, but decided against it when he realized it. "No," he answered Jihl, taking a few steps back, "They're not deliberately running toward us. They're running away from something. We need to get our of their way, now!"

"Yes, well...if you have a shovel we could perhaps hide in the sand, because if you haven't noticed," Jihl motioned around her. "There's not many places to hide now is there?"

"Then we move around," Shelke responded. "We can manage a slight detour."

Sora pointed his Keyblade to the sky. "Stop!" he yelled, summoning rays of light at the end of his weapon. The light shot towards the group of monsters, freezing whatever they hit in place for a short period of time. Hopefully this could freeze the momsters and the oncoming dust cloud as well. After using this spell, Sora looked worn out. He ran out of the path of the stampeding beasts perfectly fine, but it appeared his magic energy was drained for the time being.

Perhaps due to how far the monsters still were Sora's spell didn't seem to have any effect. If Jensen was keeping an eye on them however he'd find that there were now only two left in the pack.

"My sentiments exactly." Jihl motioned to the group like a teacher trying to stir a class of 1st graders. "Come along now, lest the scary monsters devour us all." However they all soon realized that the dust cloud had settled and what was left was nothing short of a massacre. Jensen's eyes could pick up all five monsters bodies strewn across the field, their rib caged ripped open and their innards devoured. Whatever had caught them seemed to still be feasting on the final one.

A man, well, what Jensen assumed was a man was going to town on the last monsters. While they were still quite far away the rest of the group could see that something was going on.

"Is that, is that thing eating the monsters?" Jihl asked as her nose wrinkled in disgust.

"What kind of creature could manhandle monsters like that?" Shelke asked the others, not quite expecting a reply.​

"Something bigger than any of us could possibly manage," Jensen responded to Shelke, doing his best to keep his voice level-headed, but the fact remained that through a horde of powerful monsters, one even more devastating entity ripped through them all like they were nothing, and though Adam was no stranger to hostiles that he was no match for in a direct confrontation, this was a bit more than he imagined he could handle, especially in an empty field like this.

"The kid's right though. There's no benefit to having to go through him, so if we can help it, trying to go around him would be the optimal choice, even if we stick out like sitting ducks here," he spoke to the rest of the group. Adam could only hope the others around him weren't so reckless, but with these eager kids here, he had to prepare for every possibility.

"Unless you have any disagreement, Jihl?"

"None, in fact, I encourage to give that...man a wide berth." It was clear that Jihl was not keen on fighting nor to announce their presence to this man currently devouring a bunch of monsters. "Come along then, and try not to do anything foolish." Despite the open desert landscape the group managed to not get the man's attention as they made their way around him, not that he seemed to care about his surroundings. The meal in front of him had his full attention.

The mental compass inside the groups head echoed softly to realign themselves towards their destination. Luckily the trek continued on uneventfully and after what felt like hours, something was taking shape towards the horizon. "Is that...trees?" Sure enough the desert seemed to stop dead in its tracks as a lush forest seemed to open up before them as the group got closer.

Shelke seemed uneasy at the sight. "This feels...wrong." The way how there just seemed to be a cut off point in the earth, Jihl seemed nonplussed by the situation however.

"Cover from the glistening sun inside a forest sounds much preferable to wondering around in a desert. I believe my boots are filled to the brim with that darn sand." Despite how weird it was, walking through a forest seemed far more preferable then the desert.

Charles ignored what the woman said, but he did intend to keep an eye on his son. Being slightly less drunk then normal, he looked over at the desert. " I'm with the other woman on this. Something is very off about a forest in the middle of the desert," he said.

Chris meanwhile kept close to Hiro. " Do forests usually appear of nowhere?" He asked.

You are awoken by the scorching sun shining down on you from the sky. Wait…make that two suns. Getting up from the sand you find that you aren’t alone in this desert landscape. Other people, some with unfamiliar clothing and appearances, were strewn around the area looking as confused as you are.

What was the last thing you remember? A normal day in your life…and then darkness, void of all color and life. Then you were here, how much time had passed if any you could not say. It was like a big gap in your memory

Suddenly a female voice echoes inside your head and a vision of a giant crystal floating inside a chamber.

"Lost children away from your homes. Seek me out to earn your salvation." With that the voice went quiet leaving only behind vivid image of a tall tower in the middle of the desert. That was all though, everything else was a complete mystery.

There didn't seem to be much else around except some cacti and the others gathered here. Perhaps they knew something that you didn't?

The scene that opened to them that walked up the hill was a daunting one. On the other side of the hill laid a graveyard of downed ships. To most of the group the technology was far beyond what their own worlds were capable of. A common theme among them seemed to be that all of them were made to look like sea life. One of the largest looked like an octopus, another like a seahorse.

While no one in the group could say if it was safe they would start to feel the suns rays continuing to shine down on them. Perhaps they could find some shade from the scorching suns down by the ships.​

"I think your point has been made, Shelke." Well it was always nice to put a name to a face. The girl now known as Shelke once again relented before letting go of Jensen, her eyes returning to a eerie blue color as well has her sabers disappearing into their hilts.

"They appeared to be a threat." She gave out as a defense.

"Oh yes, and perhaps they are, but in our current predicament I don't believe we can be too...picky." Jihl stopped on the last word for a moment as she surveyed the group before continuing. "I'm Jihl Nabaat, and you've already met Shelke Rui. We're refugees in this lost desert, just like all of you. Perhaps we can compare notes on how we ended up here?"​

Shelke still didn't seem to trust most of them, Red Riding Hood in particular got a sharp glare from her but that was it as she followed after Jihl through the narrow passageway past the downed ships.

Despite how they look they seemed to be quite succulent and tasty.



Hiro if he peered into the pond could see some small fish swimming around in the waters, which was quite weird in the desert. Had they also been transported here much like here or were they native to the area? Looking over the pond some more he could see a makeshift bridge of land going straight through the pond.

The creature loomed over the group before it's mouth opened revealing yet another face beneath.

"Well...this is new." Jihl replied fixing her glasses as she inspected the creature before them. Shelke meanwhile readied herself the sabers in her hands lit up in the crimson red that they had been earlier when she had held Jensen hostage.​

All the attacks seemed to be ineffectual, barley even making a scratch on the monsters thick armor like scales. Even Shelke's lightsabers only managed to scratch the surface. It's smaller head retreated back into its armor like protection as it turned its attention towards the three now in the water, ready to tackle them with its massive frame.​

Even lasers didn't seem to penetrate its thick hide harmlessly pinging away as it connected. As the ones in the water got away from its charge the monsters pulled out its tail from the water and started flinging some form of projectiles from it, while at the same time exposing its actual head from under its carapace that seemed to have been stuck in a vicious grin.

Meanwhile it seemed the group had found the monsters weak spot as it reeled back in pain as the group attacked the face under the armor. Pinocchio being stuck to its face made the monster to have a hard time to lower its armor. Seeking some slight respite it would attempt to dive underwater to try and get the attackers of itself.

With that they continued on leaving the lush oasis behind. The trek among the sand dunes was daunting, but the water as well as some of the fruit they gathered with them helped negate some of the heat the suns were blasting down on them. The desert itself seemed endless stretching to all sides as far as the eye could see. If they couldn't find a place to rest in a few hours time then there would be trouble.

Suddenly into the distance Shelke noticed something. "What is that?" Something was whipping up the sand and moving rapidly towards them.

"Hard to say," Jihl responded squinting her eyes at the dust cloud. "It seems far to centralized to be a sand storm. Jensen." She turned to face the cyborg. "You're filled with some useful devices. What does your eyes see?"​

Lucca Ashtear; Prologue - A Heated Predicament

Many weeks, even months had passed since Lavos was defeated, and as far as she knew... Peace resonated throughout all time periods, but even then... Lucca Ashtear did not rest.

Day and night she toiled on new inventions... And theories, especially after Crono returned, with a friend no less... And shared with her the detials of his ventures. He spoke of other Universes that existed other than theirs... The multiverse, so to speak, a theory she had long thought to have been nothing more than science fiction until then.

Ever since that day... Lucca had been working on multiple ways to traverse the boundaries of dimensions, none of which bore any fruit, as much as she tried to base her designs off of the time gates, rifts in time that had occurred when she had first embarked on that adventure with Crono and Marle.

However, as time went on... She began to have nightmares, or perhaos... Visions of the future.

A baby girl with blonde hair and brilliant blue eyes... Marle's pendant, wrapped around it... An orphanage in flames... A great beast residing in a void.

in the end... She abandoned her efforts to traverse dimensions, in hopes of making these nightmares go away... And for a while, it worked, until one fatefull night, when they made a much more vivid return, causing her to toss and turn in bed, unable to wake up as her senses began to fade from her...

Until finally, she awoke, not in her home... But in some kind of desert.

...

Largely, she stayed quiet throughout most of their venture, sinking into the background, and occasionally helping with a few battles, simply observing what was happening... And wondering if it was all a dream.

Out of all the bizarre happenings though, it was the large, muscular man eating monsters that snapped her out of it. Naturally she stayed quiet along with the rest of the group, skirting around him as she headed towards the forest before she finally spoke up.

"Looks like a mirage to me. But I'll take that chance! Better than becoming his meal..." She said, gesturing towards the man they had just barely avoided.

Carefully keeping a grip on her blaster, incase they met any unsavory opposition, she advanced forwards... Trying not to get too close to the front of the group; she was more of a back liner usually anyways...​
 
❝ We might as well take this option, for it appears to be our only one. ❞ One saw that there was no other reason to deter away from taking a path through the forest.

❝ Guess I'll agree with that too... though, hopefully it isn't too chilly. I'm not dressed for a hike through a forest, y'know? ❞ Two agreed with a slight sigh upon realizing that they would be departing the familiar heat of the desert. One expected this from the sister that ruled over the Land of Deserts in Midgard, but she also expected that Two would perk up soon enough to overshadow her woes about the wrong attire.

"Nothing's felt 'right' this whole time anyway."

With that remark, Aya decided to continue on into the sudden forest as well. She found the cover of trees a lot more ideal than the heat of a desert without the proper attire and resources. A forest had its own share of dangers, but no progress was going to be made by just wandering the empty desert any longer.

There weren't exactly any guarantees the forest itself was the right direction, but given how little they really knew about the current situation, perhaps just following the mental compass to its final destination was the only real choice they had.

Hiro shook his head no to answer Chris' question.

"Looks like we have no choice but to go into it, mirage or not." Maribel sighed heavily as she stared at the forest. Grabbing Chris and Hiro by their shirts, she began to drag them along behind her. "Alright boys, let's go."

Joy stayed quiet, merely opting to follow everyone else into the forest. God, she was tired. What the fuck was all this? Some creep eating live monsters whole, the fact this place had all these monsters at ALL, and the eternity in the desert? Man, she would happily work with cops every day the rest of her lide if it meant getting out of this hellhole!

A forest, huh?

Familiar territory for one particular puppet.

"Be on your guard, then. As long as we're prepared for what's inside, nothing suspicious can get the jump on us. I just hope this isn't another maze..." Geno piped up in response to some of the party members speculations upon the green forest sprouting in the middle of a barren desert. Geno could practically feel a malevolent presence whispering from within the wooded shrouds, sending prickles up his superficial wooden exterior. With only a cool smirk in response, the cloaked puppet boldly stepped into the shrubbery.

Without much negotiation, he seemed to join Jhil at the very front of the group, opting to lead them on through the forest.

Mallow, meanwhile, could trace the presence of a gloomy forest back to... Geno himself, really. A winding forest maze filled to the brim with scary monsters and mushrooms that really, really didn't look like they were safe to eat. It was a cruel irony that the nimbus prince was throwing himself into another forest maze, this time with the forest puppet himself leading him on as opposed to Mario.

"...Hoo. Alright... guess this is better than nothing. Let's go!"

Mallow tightened his grip on the Froggie Stick, waddling after Geno into the depths of the forest.

Traversing inside the lush thick forest the group noticed a complete shift in the air instantly. From dry and scorching heat to humid and pleasant. "Life does not work like this." Shelke was weary as they walked through the tall trees. Suddenly a sound as Shelke drew her lightsabers only to find to be some exotic looking birds flying in the tree tops.

"Oh dear, wildlife that isn't out to kill us, how delightful," Jihl replied. As she said that they could hear another cry.

"Kweh!" It was coming from further inside the forest.​

Chris thought that was the case, but he wanted to double check.

Thought the hero didn't want to go into the mirage, it seemed he had no choice as Maribel would grab him and Hiro by the shirt and drag them into the mirage as it would seem. Maybe things wouldn't be going so bad after all.

"Life finds a way after all," Jensen briefly quipped toward Shelke as they navigated through the mysterious forest. Still, the girl was right. A structure like this defied all common sense and logic, though... considering every bizarre turn this venture had taken already, maybe Jensen was the one who ought to throw out his own preconceptions of possible or not.

Of course, for all intents and purposes, he and Jihl were... a bit accustomed, moreso than just anyone else might realize.

As the cry was heard from deeper within the forest, Adam went on guard once again, letting out a soft breath. "Stay back, sir. I'll look into it," Jensen said to Charles, before warily stepping forward to investigate the sound.

Ramza quietly followed behind the others, hand nervously hovering over his sword. He dropped his hand though, at the noise off in the distance. He stepped forward, holding a hand out. "Wait! It should be non-harmful!"

"It shouldn't," Jihl concurred as she watched Jensen follow the sound. "But if he wishes to put his life on the line, I will certainly not stop him."

The sounds were becoming more clearer as Jensen found reprieve in the the thick forest as a clearing opened up before him.

In the clearing Jensen spotted a number of large bird creatures cheerfully walking around and scratching the ground with their beaks to find something to eat.

"Ah, of course it was chocobo's." Jihl appeared behind Jensen and looked over the scene in front of them. "While not the same breed as the ones from my world, their frame is quite...distinct."

Shelke had as well caught up to them now and was investigating the the birds. "We should be fine...they are usually harmless unless provoked."

Jihl chuckled. "To think this smelly bird would be a constant shared among us! Though I am glad we didn't once again stumble into a lion's den." The chocobo's didn't seem to mind the group for the time being, continuing on with what they had been doing before their arrival.​

Adam's posture relaxed as Jihl explained the creature to be generally harmless. He could imagine that the "unless provoked" part could mean life or death for them all, considering how... unstable this party seemed capable of being, so he figured that they ought to move on from there if that was the case. No need to exhaust resources on harmless creatures then.

"I see... Well, if the two of you say so," Jensen shrugged, his hand leaving his hip where his gun was equipped. He had no feeling toward the creatures that others might have otherwise found cute, so he didn't even feel inclined as to pet them. "We should get a move on, then. Unless there's anything else to look over?"

" Well as long as they are not provoked is something good to know," Charles relieved that the birds weren't a danger as nobody would provoke them. He knew that nobody in the group would certainly do that.

Chris ran up to one of the birds, learning they were harmless. He wanted to pet one and take one home with him and then Chris had himself trip right in front of them. " Oww…" Chris replied, getting up, not that much worse. He would attempt to pet the birds too.

"Hey, anything is better than sticking around a desert..." Joy was grateful for the change of scenery, even if it involved some...really weird bird. It looked like a goofy puppet on some kiddie show! But again, considering the other shit they'd seen here? Goofy puppet birds were a welcome change of pace.

Aya leaned a little closer to one of the Chocobos, examining it for herself. It was a cute looking animal, certainly not something she'd have initially labeled hostile in any case, and a nice reprieve from the monsters they'd encountered. She hadn't really seen an actual animal like this, even if that was simply par for the course at this point, but it resembled a bulkier emu.

In any case, her curiosity didn't overtake her desire to just get this adventure done with. Moving to lean against a tree, she crossed her arms without a word for now, silently agreeing with Jensen's notion. Though she kept an eye on the clumsy seeming kid, neither wanting him to get hurt or aggravate the birds somehow.
