Lydia Martin

Lydia hadn't planned on coming back- but after hearing that not many came back, she felt that it was important that she went with the group. " I'm so sorry that I'm late to our gathering. In case we didn't meet or anyone forgot, Lydia Martin, banshee. Perchance for finding dead bodies and I can defend myself with my screams. It's good to see some familiar faces."

❝ My name... ❞ He pauses for a moment. He had to remind himself that he shouldn't call himself the Shadowlord anymore, it wasn't exactly an... inviting name to be calling himself by. Nor would the Original Gestalt work too well either, it was too foreign from a simple name. In a way, it felt strange to be calling himself by this name again, as if it had been too long for himself.

❝ It's Nier, a lone traveler. It is nice to meet you, Emily. ❞ He finally answers, and for a moment, he works up a smile. The concept of expressing emotion felt strange to him after so long, but it didn't feel right to answer in such an emotionless matter to someone who could be very well in the same situation as him.

❝ May I ask... do you know about this land? I don't... know so much about this place myself. ❞ He figured it was fair enough for him to ask this, seeing that he was simply dropped off here using the technology made by the android sisters. Though, he had a gut feeling of uncertainty, especially with how silent his other self had gotten in the past few minutes. He didn't even push that extra consciousness to the back of his mind to drown it out, the other voice simply didn't make any side comments for him to hear only. That in itself was... rather worrying.

Ragnarok Mission: Present From the Past
Part Two: No Man's Land

In the UN Hospital, a young amnesiac patient has been staying for quite some time. With only a name, Geneva St. Claire, she has no recollection of anything, and constantly loses any memories she does retain due to the head wound she suffered that brought her into the hospital's care in the first place. A member of the MEU, Urbosa, is determined to help this young woman find family in order to help both Geneva be reunited with loved ones and the hospital free up more beds, but the only possession Geneva had was a strange necklace. Upon delivering the necklace to Geneva, the girl was able to remember one word: Vivaldi. Thinking this could lead to them finding Geneva's relatives, Urbosa set up a search party to find any information they could on Vivaldi.

One group webt to the Upper City, an elite part of town where the Vivaldis were listed. They were met by guards who informed them that the city was on lockdown due to a string of disappearances. Fortunately, an eccentric "doctor" intercepted them and allowed them in, while also enlisting their aid in solving the disappearances of the missing youth of the Upper City. He showed one missing persons flyer that had a young man named Arturo Vivaldi on it who looked similar to Geneva, and brought the group to the home of a woman named Amelia Dupont.

Meanwhile, in the Outer City, the group there found a young vagrant harassed by a group threatening to send him to a place called the Emerald City. Upon rescuing the young man, they learned his name was Archer and that he had been separated from his companion Brady, who the others outside the fight had met. Brady mentioned knowing of Vivaldi, and led the group to his home, where he and Archer explained that there had been disappearances in the Outer City that no one cared about save for them. The only lead was the Emerald City, a nickname for a town called Bel far off in No Man's Land. Said town was founded by a man named Luca Vivaldi, who twenty five years ago had been disowned and exiled for his horrifying human experimentation. Brady also said the next steps involved going to Bel, but to do so, they needed a map.

As the group made their inquiries of Amelia, the woman frowned. "You don't possibly mean to tell me..."

Xing nodded. "Yep. We wanna find Luca. Think you can help us? I mean, you were his girlfriend, right?"

Amelia sighed. "Fiancee, dear. I was his fiancee." She stood up, walking to a desk as she spoke. "I don't know what people have told you about Luca..."

"They haven't told us anything!" Geneva said, before adding a doubtful, "...I think."

"He was a good man, deep down. He had ambitions, and good intentions! I suppose he thought the ends would justify the means, but...he never found the ends he had hoped for." She opened the top drawer, pulling out an envelope. "He wanted me to run away with him, you know. Somehow got a letter to me all the way from some place he called Bel, with a map included." She shook her head, turning to the group. "But I couldn't do it. And I'm glad I didn't; otherwise, how would I ever have taken care of my darling plants? Nothing ever grows out in that wasteland..."

"Yeah, that's a damn shame." He didn't sound all that sympathetic. "But hey, maybe we can deliver a message to Luca for you?"

Amelia shook her head. "That's not necessary. Luca and I are history! But...if you desire to see him yourself, for whatever reason, I can give you this, at least." She handed Xing the letter. "Do be careful, dears. This world is nowhere near safe."

"You can trust us, Amelia," Xing said with a smile. "If I don't see you again, consider this goodbye!"

"Wait, you're leaving already? It's almost time for tea!"

"Oh, is it? Hmm..."

"Uhh...shouldn't we be going?" Geneva asked, but she was ignored.

"Well...the others are waiting...but I haven't eaten for a while...Damn...okay. Tea first, then goodbye!"

And, whether you liked it or not, you were roped into tea. By the time Xing led you out into the Outer City, night had almost fallen over Charon. "Okay, our hideout is right...here!" He opened the door to a small apartment, where the rest of the group was waiting, as well at two other young men...one of whom was rather furious.

"Where the Hell you been, Assassin?! These folks've been waitin' for hours!"

Assassin merely shrugged. "She invited us to tea. You just don't say no to that!"

Brady sighed. "...okay, yeah. I get it."

Now it was Archer's turn to be surprised. "You do?"

"But point is, these folks stayin' out late in the Outer City puts 'em all in danger!"

"Eh? No way. They all look pretty strong...they'll be fine. Besides!" Assassin held up the letter with a smile. "Dupont got me the map."

"Dupont?" Urbosa asked.

View attachment 3621

"Yeah, Luca's old flame. Assassin's been talking her up out in the Upper City."

"Okay, who is Luca?" Geneva asked. "I know I never heard of him before..."

"An old loon who got sent out to a place called Bel. You know...the Emerald City?"

"The Emerald...!!!" Geneva gasped. "Urbosa!"

The Gerudo Champion turned to the girl. "What is it? Do you remember something?"

"I..." Geneva grunted in frustration. "...no, I don't...not really, but that name! I...I know I heard it before! Somewhere before..."

Urbosa looked to Assassin. "This Bel...how far out is it?"

"Uhh..." He took the map out of the letter. "Oof. It's pretty far out there. And probably a complete mess after that one explosion back in the day..."

Urbosa sighed. "I suppose in that case, we're going to need more hands on deck." She turned to those here.

"I thank you all for joining us thus far. If you have no desire to head out into uncharted territory, I understand. I'll still pay you for your help thus far. If you do want to continue on...meet me at the Cog and Sword in one week. We'll head out then."

"We'll be there, too," Brady said. "I wanna find these missing folks!"

Urbosa smiled. "Very well. In one week, I look forward to working with all of you."

And with that, your adventure either ended there...or was only just beginning.

---

One week later...

Word about the new trek into No Man's Land no doubt reached you somehow. Whether you were part of the original journey with Urbosa, or you had seen an ad calling for adventurers hoping to make some extra cash, or you had overheard chatter about it, no doubt the idea excited you, and was why you now found yourself at the Cog and Sword, ready for this mission. You would find the leader, Urbosa, already at a large table, with Geneva beside her. Three men also sat there, who you would recognize had you been part of the previous excursion. There was plenty to eat and drink set out, so it was a good idea to mingle and prepare. You had a long journey ahead of you.
hqdefault.jpg

❝ I take it that... this is the place to meet for this mission, right? ❞ 9S timidly spoke up once arriving at the Cog and Sword, holding onto one of the flyers that made mention of this journey into No Man's Land. No doubt he was curious what lies beyond this surrounding area, and it might make some good intel for whenever it's decided for more YoRHa units to be sent here. So, this was probably the best course of action for now.

As the magus arrived, Geneva smiled at him. "Hey, Lindel!" She giggled as she said his name. "Check it out! I finally can remember people! ...kind of. But I think having a grip on these two big memories is really helping with smaller ones."

As Death's Head introduced himself, Assassin frowned. "Aw, man! That was the green guy, right? He was funny!"

"Humor ain't gonna help us out in the boonies," Brady responded.

Urbosa, though, smiled at their new arrivals. "Welcome, all of you. We need all the help we can get on this trip, and you all seem to be quite capable."

"Go on and sit down!" Geneva motioned to the food. "Eat up-we're only getting rations on the trip out."

Ever since the multiverse was restored, after the threat of Othinus had been neutralized so to speak... Schala had been hard at work preparing herself for an encroaching threat that they had been made aware of. Othinus was only the beginning, and as a result, the multiverse still needed protecting.

Unfortunately, this also meant that Schala had to temporarily postpone her involvement in places like Ragnarok, but that didn't mean she didn't have some backup plans in place, just incase something cropped up while she was busy.

After all, even before she had officially joined the Coalition, she had... Contacts.

One such contact would be meeting up with some others very soon, in preparation for a followup to a mission that had occurred here some time ago.

...

All of a sudden, a cat-girl that might be quite familiar to some seemed to have suddenly popped up from behind the Bar Counter

mDPI4zy.png

"I can't say no to free food, nya~?" She said.

Judging from the sugary crumbs on her dress, she had apparently already helped herself to some sweets, but despite looking ill equipped, it looked like she too had answered the call, intending to help out with this mission, although she didn't quite know the details herself just yet...

Emily Hayes
@Gummi Bunnies @Yun Lee @Others?

Nier... A strange name, but Emily didn't mind. Alledia was a treasure trove of oddities in its own right, and the young stonekeeper had learned to appreciate the company, and help of others more than anything as of late.

Thus, she found it easy to speak freely about her knowledge, or lack thereof, of this place.

Nn8GpOy.png

"I don't know, Nier... This place is as unfamiliar to me as it is to you..." She said, frowning a little as she thought about it.

6GIQETp.png

"But, this isn't the first time something like this has happened to me. The last time, it was some kind of accident. This time, I... I'm not so sure what it is..."

Emily trailed off a little as she thought about it; the ship crew she had initially encountered explained that her being pulled from her home world alongside multiple others was something to do with a side effect of using this thing called the 'mycelial network'. Something that she figured operated like transpores in Alledia, only on a much larger, but more dynamic scale.

Such a thing didn't seem to be present in these ruins though, so she found herself without a good explanation for how she got here. Perhaps her stone had something to do with it?

"...ha ha, yeah, totally." Geneva smiled woodenly, hoping to play off the fact that she had no idea who this Libra guy was.

Assassin rocked his chair back on its hind legs, grinning. "Nahhh, I'll be fine! Nobody's dying on my watch. I have a special trick up my sleeve."

"Hey, c'mon! No usin' that thing!" Brady frowned. "I already told ya it don't sit right with me!"

"Good thing you're not my Master, then! He lets me do it all the time!"

"Well he ain't here, is he? And if you're stayin' jn my already cramped apartment, you follow my rules!"

"Do those rules include crying during a children's movie?"

"H-Hey, shut up!"

"Girls, girls! You're both pretty." From his place between them, Archer butted in with a puff of smoke from his cigarette. "Can we not be at each other's throats, please? It's bad enough we're all gonna be stuck together for a while, so how about we try getting along, yeah? Eat some tapas and cool off."

Urbosa raised an eyebrow. "I didn't realize there was so much...tension."

Archer shrugged. "It only comes up when Assassin tries that 'special skill' of his. Master's not too fond of it."

"I told ya, call me Brady."

"Right, my bad. Brady's not too fond of it."

"Hm..." Either way, Urbosa turned her attention to the two new arrivals, young women without proper weaponry. "I don't feel right with you going out there with nothing to defend yourselves with. I can supply weapons in that case. Are either of you comfortable with firearms?"

" As much as I would like a weapon, I'm okay. I was trained by an ex Army EOD technician in close quarters combat. And though, I don't look like it, I do have the capability to scream at frequencies that will make most enemies cower and can weaponized them. If I must, I can carry a firearm, but I don't find it necessary."

"I'm suddenly getting the impression you don't know what I'm talking about." Lindel blinked, smile still in place as he spoke.

There was a brief pause then.

Urbosa nodded. "Very well. But if you change your mind, I will be packing spare weaponry on this trip in case anyone needs any extra protection."

"We won't need anything, if I could just-"

"I said no!"

Archer sighed. "If only I got paid to put up with this..." He glanced over at the ladies of the group with a smirk. "Though being here may not be such a bad thing after all..."

"No, I guess..." Geneva sighed. "Ugh, I just want to remember everything, you know? I hope this dumb trip gets me remembering something..."

"Pardon me." A woman's voice spoke up from underneath a black cloak, which concealed its wearer entirely. She stood behind Archer, casting a shadow over the cloaked man. He glanced behind him and froze, the cigarette in his mouth falling out into his ale.

"Is this the expedition I've been hearing about?"

Urbosa, unperturbed by the figure, nodded. "Indeed it is. Are you considering joining us?"

"As I was telling Linda, I can provide weaponry if you-"

"I have no need for weapons." The woman gave a dismissive answer, uninterested in Urbosa. Rather, she seemed to be fixated on Geneva, who cowered a bit when she noticed. "You must be Geneva St. Clair."

"Uh...yeah." Geneva suddenly became very interested in her chicken wings.

"I'm sure it will, best keep the spirits high and have a little patience for when they do come. Even if you don't recieve all of your memeories, some are better than none." Lindel reaponded, hoping to reassure her. Though with the arrival of this newcomer, the magus felt a bit put off by her presence. Perhaps he's been around the dragons far too long, but the look given to the cloaked woman was as sharp as a knife as it was curious. He was, in a sense, trying to read her to some degree to understand why he initially felt put off.

"Ah, what would your name be, miss? If you don't mind me asking." He spoke up, tone remaining polite. He wouldn't judge her character by her appearance, he wasnt a child after all, but he couldn't help but wonder what about her shocked Archer like it did.

❝ Okaay... hm. ❞ 9S could feel the air in the room just shift into a very tense atmosphere. Awkwardly tense, if he was picking up on the right emotional cues of "this cloaked lady is creeping us out." The android definitely felt out of the loop on why that tension came about, and he wasn't alone on that note given that some others that were tagging along for the expedition voiced out those curiosities to the latecomer.

❝ Well, uh, more people to help out, right? ❞ Even he could tell that this was a poor attempt for small talk.

"My name does not matter." The woman continued to keep her eye trained on the increasingly uncomfortable Geneva. "What matters is the mission we are undertaking. If my countenance offends, I can just as well leave."

"Nah, we don't need you gone!" Assassin piped up merrily. "You don't seem like a bad guy!"

"I must agree," Urbosa said, nodding. "If you have no ill intent, you are welcome to stay. Just know that if you are up to something-and this goes for all of you here-I will leave you on your own out there."

"What is 'out there' exactly?"

"I'm glad you asked." Urbosa stood up, her full height of over eight feet towering over the table. "What you have all signed on to do is an investigation of sorts. Years ago, a doctor by the name of Luca Vivaldi was exiled from the Upper City for malpractice on patients. He managed to survive out in No Man's Land long enough to create his own city, Bel. We have no idea how he did so, but this town exists and is related to a string of disappearances in both the Upper City and the Outer City. This job involves all of us traveling there, investigating, and hopefully rescuing anyone we can find. You will be paid once we return here after successful investigation. If you perish we will send payment to your next of kin, and if you decide to retreat you will only receive a small portion. Any questions?" She paused, allowing anyone to speak or comment if needed.

"If everyone is ready, we can head out now," Urbosa said. "As for Bel...all we have to go on is a map, unfortunately."

"You're welcome!"

She ignored Assassin. "But as long as we all stay on our guards, there shouldn't be an issue. If everyone is ready, let's not waste any more time." Paying for the meal, Urbosa then led everyone outside to the outskirts of the city, where a large tank awaited them. "The UN was generous enough to spare one of these for our trip," Urbosa explained. "It can only fit a few people inside, though. The rest of us can either ride on top or go on foot...granted you can keep up."

The top of the tank opened up, and someone climbed out. A young teenager stood at the top, looking down at everyone.

"This is everyone going on the mission? They look more capable than I expected."

"Yes, I get the feeling we'll do just fine," Urbosa replied. "Everyone, this is Lily Flyer. She'll be driving the tank."

"My organization has trained me from a young age," Lily replied, not batting an eye. "Manning a tank is something I mastered four years ago."

"If the tank is so fast, why would some of us go on foot?" Geneva asked as Brady helped her into the tank.
