do you draw your rp characters or find them online?

so It really burns me when I have a character in my head, and I have to go to google and scan and scan can for a black haired girl with green eyes, or a red haired girl, so personally I draw my characters and try to get them colored, I got caleb done, but theres still a picture I created from a DND game I did abit ago, I also made a character version of one from a avatar because my first pic of her came out wonkyView attachment 9668 so this here is Kali, aka Kaliya amber, now while I didnt draw her, I made her from memory using avi creator, the other two Selena, and Caleb I did create and I'll link them in a sec, so tell me Storycircle, how do you Roleplay?

I wish I could draw my characters. I wish I had the talent necessary to draw all of my characters, but I don't. So I end up always google searching for images that come close to matching my characters and what they look like but it's never exactly what I want. I'm honestly envious of those who can draw their characters.

I usually prefer drawing them, mostly to avoid any copyright or ownership issues

I'm not an artist in the slightest so I don't know that I would be able to draw them. I usually use a modeling site that I found forever ago or Pintrest to find character inspiration. Sometimes, I find the picture first and make a character based on that, but sometimes I do the opposite and attempt to find a picture that resembles the character in my head.

If I were an artist, I would draw my own without hesitation. Unfortunately, I'm not and face claims have never quite matched what I was looking for so I've taken to commissioning artists. If I don't have the disposable income for that at the time, or don't want to spend the money on it, I'll use one of the online character generators or a game like Final Fantasy or WoW to get as close as I can to the look I want and then be happy with that.

I'm not going to lie: I never actually posted a picture of a forum RP character until last year when I came here. I never bothered trying to google it or draw it, because I described the person with words.

I do see the appeal now that I've been exposed to it, and I've attempted drawing characters in the past, but my art skills don't rise above the level of the Sunday funnies, so I don't ever share them. In the RPs that I've joined since I got here which required an image-based physical description, I've just googled until I found something close enough.

I do both. I'll draw artwork of my characters or I'll look something up online that's close enough to how I inversion the character or use a base. Most often the latter two as my art tablet got stolen and money is very tight where I'm at, so drawing will have to wait for awhile. I do commission others if I can to draw characters for me, but again, money is tight so I can't do that as often as I'd like.

I used to draw my characters but got burned out on art. I've gotten back into drawing recently so for now it's a mix of both. Using a picture to start and then once I get my drawing to a point I like, draw them myself. Though to be honest my favorite method is to just write out their descriptions and let my and my partners imaginations take over.

I'm not the best artist so I typically use faceclaims or commission artists for my characters. There's tons of resources on Tumblr and I even search through Mudae for something due to the sheer variety of characters. In the past I have also used Picrew (though obviously, there will only be the one image/pose).

That being said, my one rule is that I will not use fan art or OCs from smaller artists without asking for permission.

With my tabletop games I generally grab art from online (Deviantart and Pinterest are common sources). One piece of character art I use was created by someone dear to me for my character in her D&D game. I cherish it and I’ll continue to use it every time I use that character, Oldra the lizardfolk.

Check out OrphanTigress on YouTube, twitch and patreon for D&D, art, and a variety of topics. She is a proud member of the furry/anthro community and would never shame someone for the role such RP plays in one’s life.
.
I’m still new to forum-based RP so I’m not sure which route I’ll take here.

I attempt to make my modern ones in The Sims. But for others I may need somebody to help and artists aren't cheap. I may try finding them online, but mostly nothing seems fitting for how they look. If I could get any help in that direction, that would be perfect, but I don't know. For now I just describe them by words. And I don't know if that's acceptable.

I'd say commission an artist, but that's only an option of you're willing to invest money and if you have it. Otherwise I think you can find free character creators, they aren't great but I've used them from time to time. I also use videogame character makers from time to time hehe, the Sims is great for it

Still they don't really give me what I would like to be given for most the time, so yeah, my best chances are to commission an artist. But I need money for too many other things. At least I graduated, but this can't calm my financial situation. Also I need to save up for a new computer and who knows what else. So, I had to rule out that option and try my best finding stuff. Or figuring out ways.
