Elsewhere, in an Isirian military bunker...
"Mr. President, we have an urgent update on operation Black Sky. The Aschen are evacuating their facilities, and leaving Isiria."
"Shit, get us in contact with the Va'nyrians immediately," Lenhardt said. "The operation has been compromised."
"I don't believe that's the case, sir. We have reports of Isirian workers receiving termination notices and paychecks, and Aschen personnel not reporting for duty at any of the Isirian military stations. There's no sign of sabotage or violence. They're just... leaving."
Confusion hung over all of their heads. Confusion and wariness. No one dared breathe a sigh of relief.
The president in particular had been blind-sided by this development. Freshly sworn in, he had been fully prepared for his first act as President of Isiria to be an engagement of war against the Aschen Empire. Plans were already in motion, operations underway. This new revelation flew in the face of everyone's expectations of the events about to unfold.
Lenhardt was no stranger to Aschen tactics, and his first thought was that the Aschen had gotten wind of the imminent uprising and were pulling their people out to launch a definitive strike against Isiria from afar. But if so, why go through the facade of writing termination notices and paying Isirian workers? It didn't add up.
"Mr. President?"
"Move forward with the operation," the president answered. "Advise our team's on the ground that the operation may have been compromised and to proceed with caution. Secure all targets. Inform the Va'nyrian that we're initiating immediately, and that the Wachtowers may have been compromised as well."
