What do you want to avoid during a RP?

We have probably something or 'some things' that make us uncomfortable during a RP,
the question is: what do you don't want to see/avoid?

personnally, it will be:

-the depressed character or *insert illness* character: i do enjoy a funny RP, and i wouldn't mind realistic stuffs if i didn't get spammed with the whole 'depressed character', but what i can't stand, it's when it can happen OOC (aka out of character), i do not want to limit someone else creativity, but when a character is only served as a 'pity object', i'll pass..

-the shipping/pairing obssession: it's annoying, why a character (no matter the fandoms) have to be paired with *insert character* when a story is enough? besides, a romance shouldn't be forced
down to someone troats..

-the "my character is an ass, so i will be one OOC": no matter how much they hate people, how 'they look cool' for hating the whole planet, or how much they hate someone 'based on the role they play as', again, i'll pass..

i may add more later, but what about you?

Role plays going stale. There are a lot of things that I'd like to avoid, but stale role plays is my top one. When things become a drag to read or a drag to reply to I tend to not enjoy that.

Hah! I completely agree with all of you- I hate it when these things happen. However, one of my biggest RP "pet peeves" is when an RP has no plot and the RP dies out really quickly. I'm not against RP's having no plays to them or anything because sometimes they can actually end up exciting, but a lot of the ones I've seen are "unorganized" and have no points to them.

Godmoding is annoying because it just shows lack of effort given to play the rp. Other times it could be an accident; I understand that; it just really ticks me off.

When people actually act like their roleplay characters, that's when I get a little frustrated. It's just a fake character. No need to be someone you're not.

I genuinely dislike it whenever I'm the only one who actively pushes character interactions, or whenever I'm the only one who suggests plot ideas. It happened a lot during the time when I preferred 1x1 more than group roleplays─which is why I'm no longer as willing to write in a 1x1. It can be so fantastic and awesome, but alas :C

Things just....trailing off, or dragging on. I love developing plots and characters, but there's nothing worse then the other person not moving the plot along. Constant chatter and no action IS a good way to develop characters, but I tend to like fast paced RP's, or at least with a little action haha :,D

oR one liners. Don't even get me started on them, oh god. Just...please be civil enough to reply with half a paragraph? Please just try to type a little more, ugH

ONE LINERS, OH MY GOD. AGREED.

Nothing's worse than spending time on your reply and getting a sentence in return- it's infuriating. I don't need you to match me word for word, but at least be in the general area, please!

I'm a bit of a romantic at heart, but I'll admit that having someone just kind've.. throwing their character at mine and wanting a relationship is a bit.. grating. I want some depth in my relationships! Unresolved tension! Conflict! Just because your character likes mine does not mean my character likes yours, and vice versa. Unrequited feelings are total normal in real life, so why wouldn't they be in roleplay?

Also.. bad spelling. Like, consistently really bad spelling and grammar. It's the 21st century- get a spellchecker if you really have trouble.

I agree with one liners though I'm also the king of 3-4 sentence posts. On the flip side of things, I'd add posts that are too descriptive/long. When I start to see posts that are 5-8 paragraphs in length for every response I tend to feel like it impacts the collaborative effect of the writing. That's just my own personal opinion on that one.

Oh dear me, I think what’s more disheartening than anything is when have poured depth, detail and some internal thoughts concerning your character. Only to get a sentence back.. or even less than that, you think to yourself, what was the point of writing that post?

And you feel like your post made no impact on your partner, wasn’t good enough if it inspired only one sentence. What I feel like. ;c

So I'd like to avoid that if I possibly can here.

What I avoid with roleplayers are players who out of character act like fandoms or communities deserve hate or jokes. In addition when it comes to the roleplaying itself I avoid people that don't care about long quality posts, story driven roleplays, or won't roleplay with anthro partners.

My biggest pet peeve is not getting a response from other characters. That just annoys me... it's like... "can you not read?" Also meta gaming is disheartening...

- Oneliners. I try to avoid them as best as possible myself and hope the people I'm RPing with respect that as well. It's the worst when you write this beautiful, eloquent response and get a one liner in return. Even after you gave them so much material to go off of. smh

- I hate when people powerplay my character, even in the slightest bit. Maybe I'm just petty or a control freak, but I'd like to be asked first.

- This one is kind of hard to avoid, but sometimes people try to coerce me into taking part in their weird plot ideas and etc. Like someone will ask me to be their long lost twin or something without respecting what I already have down for my character and expect me to change all of it. I don't really know how to say no, so I usually just ignore them. oops

*I tend to avoid making things remotely sexual unless in a private chat with two consenting adults.
*I would make sure the RP isn't totally one sided and give the other person some room for their character when they enter. like for example in an open world chat it would be a good idea to expect new comers and try to get them involved.
* I also really don't like correcting people on their small spelling/grammar mistakes as long as it doesn't seem like they do it all the time.
*I generally avoid out of character talking unless it's expressly ok.

People who won't roleplay with people under 18. When did RPing suddenly become an 18+ thing?? Even the last site I was in, they were talking about giving anyone under 18 a different coloured name, and this was in a site were Erotic RPing wasn't even allowed..

People who don't accept characters because of face claims. Doesn't make any sense to me, realistic or drawn or anime or whatever, it doesn't matter as in the end it's just really the writing you're going to be looking at, so why just say "nope, don't like the way it looks so no, go away"

As an adult, I get why some would be a bit weird about rping with minors. Lots of things can get misconstrued and fuzzy. It's less messy if minors aren't involved.

Mine might be unpopular opinions, but I really don't mind one liners. I can make up the difference, I've experienced, and it doesn't bother me to do so regularly. I had a partner for the better of two years that was like that. We just really liked interacting and some of our contact was just for fun through role playing.

What gets me are the people who post literal novels. It's daunting. It makes replying (not necessarily reading) feel like an impossible task. I had a partner for about three months that would regularly send 5 paragraph replies. I would run out of things to say, do, describe. They ran the show and I just couldn't keep up.

I also don't like people who don't reply for weeks on end and waffle about when asked, but I do that when I get in a bad place so I can't hold it against anyone.

Here's some stuff.
  • "Txt tlk lmao bruv."
  • "u wan sum fuk?"
  • Characters that always demand that I interact with them, especially when I'm the GM. No, kid, your fourth inner monologue about how dark and awful the world is can wait. Please say something, I'm giving up on you.
  • Posts that have no actions in them whatsoever. If you contribute a post that does nothing, congratulations: You are the reason why every RP you join dies.
  • "You must be (semi-)literate" aaaaand we're done here. Goodbye.
  • "You must write at least three paragraphs per post" usually goes hand in hand with the "literate" people, who are often too arrogant to listen when I tell them to go google the terms "pacing" and "purple prose" each respectively. Because if you want me to drown your role play in repetitious and pointless dialogue about how white the stone floors are, and how each tiny insignificant inch of light feels upon the bare flesh of my character's limb, this is how you do it.
  • "You must post at least once a day or more" hahahaha I have a job and university, good luck with that.
  • "These role plays are imperfect, if only they could be as beautiful as me!" Something something elitism something something go stuff a sock in it.
  • If you think I have the time and inclination to sit down and read an entire novel about the generic history of your generic fantasy kingdom, you're wrong. Very, very wrong. I write highly detailed role plays and I will happily join highly detailed role plays, but all the information you give me better be relevant to my character and the storyline. If it isn't, I will get bored, and will leave. Short, sweet, and simple is fine. There are miles and leagues of difference between Legend of Renalta and The Last Bastion, but between the two, Legend of Renalta is the more popular role play, in spite of The Last Bastion's higher profile. LoR is also much simpler to grasp at a glance. Hmm... :p
  • If your character is more important than my feelings or the story it is in, you're gonna have a bad time.
