Ty's ship descended on Olympus, a hangar door opening to allow him inside. "Welcome back, Ty." A voice said over his radio, "Glad to be back, Pathos. Got some outsiders with me though." Ty told Pathos, "Mercenaries. They're fine and they pay well."

"If you vouch for them things should be fine, if they screw up it's your head, Ty." Pathos informed the smuggler, "I know. I know, geez." Ty muttered.

"We're ghosts." Vanessa said to her team, each of them removing IDs, Invictus insignias, and anything else that could identify them as Invictus. Benedict grabbed each of them, stuffing them into a pouch.

"Landing." Ty said over the intercom, as the ship finally came to a stop. The few windows on the ship showed an advanced, yet old, facility. A lot of money went into keeping it together, but not to hire janitors or an interior designer.

Ty made his way through the ship towards it's exit as the door opened to allow himself and his passengers off.

"It's great to be back where no one belongs."

"Nice place," Alanna remarked, "Looks honest."

The station looked like a place that'd chew you up and spit you right out if you pissed it off. So, honest.

"I'm just glad to be back in-atmosphere, personally," she went on. "Space is great and all, but there's not enough water in the air."

____

"That's right, you're like a water witch. Like Ursula." Benedict said to Alanna as he and the other mercenaries disembarked from the ship. "The villain from The Little Mermaid...?" Another mercenary asked.

"Pathos!" Ty yelled, holding his arms out towards a man crossing the hangar. The other man was extremely large, larger than his voice made him sound, with dark skin and a bald head.

"This everyone?" Pathos asked, gesturing to the group. "Got one more passenger, they'll be out soon." Ty answered, "Good. Let's get a drink. The rest of you can join us or be on your way. Since Ty says you're okay to be here, you're okay to reap a few limited benefits." Pathos said, pointing towards a door on the other side of the hangar.

"We'll get you food for your travel, and a few vehicles." He continued, "Thank you." Vanessa, gesturing the others towards the exit. "I'll meet you all outside. I want to speak to Pathos here."

____

"I like to think I'm a little more athletic. A few less tentacles. Less likely to be impaled by a warship? Can't be a hundred percent on that one. Stranger things have happened." Alanna snorted with amusement.

"Roger that," she noted as Vanessa indicated that they should move out, nodding her head and joining the others in making their way in that direction.

"Seriously though, I don't have the tits to be Ursula. Or the evil laugh. Mwa ha ha? No, see. Can't do it."

____

"I'll be the judge of your tits." Benedict joked, pushing open the door out of the hangar. Almost immediately he found himself greeted by sunlight and the pirate haven that was Olympus.

"This seems like the kind of place you roll your windows up and lock your doors in." A mercenary said, watching as the unsavory denizens of Olympus went about their days.

The city was slightly less lit as the second of Hera Prime's suns began to lower. Night would be approaching in a few hours and it wasn't going away any time soon.

"You all look new. Can I interest you in my wares?" A man asked the group as he approached. He wore the chestplate of a traditional English knight, though everything else seemed thrown together.

Even the armor seemed off, like it may have been a replica or a prop. It wouldn't defend against a thing.

"You like to make love? Have you ever heard of Scatterrans?" He asked, "Great lovers, and you too can make love the Scatterran way. If you buy Aphrodite's Kiss." He said, approaching Alanna.

"Have you ever heard if Aphrodite? Where are you from?"

____

"I'm from nowhere important, bud," Alanna shrugged her shoulders. She didn't doubt that this place saw a lot of visitors from 'nowhere', 'none of your business', and 'who's asking'.

"And I'll pass on the love drug. It'd only be wasted on a frigid bitch like me."

She stepped over to lean against the wall of the hangar building, looking out across the city. "Maybe Benny's got time to worry about that sort of thing if he's going to be judging peoples' tits." She smirked at the mercenary. "How's about it? You fancy a big wet one from Aphrodite?"

____

Benedict shook his head, "I think I'll pass." He said to both Alanna and the salesman. "If I don't die, I might be in need if this place is as bad as it seems."

"News!" A woman yelled, prompting most people to quiet down and begin to huddle around comms and radios around Olympus. It must have been important news. Or they at least knew the importance of staying informed in their business. Things were constantly changing in the universe.

"Turn that up." A nearby smuggler said, "Olympus, this is Meka, scout for The Dread Pirates. A few hours ago gunfire erupted in the capital, Aether City. Around the same time, an army crossed The Badlands heading there." Meka's voice said over the comms.

Benedict jogged over to a radio to listen, gesturing for Alanna and his team to do the same.

"I decided to investigate. I found Aether City occupied by an army clad in blue, led by a man named Elias Crowley. He's taken control from the wealthy. Many of you are familiar with Crowley, you know he's a man of the people. You also know his organization found themselves attacked not long ago." Meka continued.

"War is coming to Hera Prime, be prepared, my friends. And Ty. For the Dread Pirates, Meka signing off."

____

"Oh, fan-fucking-tastic," Alanna snorted bitterly. "Is literally everywhere in the universe at war, or does it just follow me around?"

She rolled her eyes. "This is going to complicate shit, I just know it. Even if it has nothing to do with us. That's how it always manages to work."

____

"Don't jinx us." Benedict warned, "She's got a point." Vanessa said, approaching the group. "You've been in the field long enough to know that we're always jinxed." She said to Benedict.

"I know, but I like to believe that some god is out there looking out for us." Benedict replied, "Making sure I make it to see my kids disappoint me at their grade school sports games."

The mercenaries couldn't help but chuckle at Benedict's joke.

"On me. I got some directions from Pathos and worked out a deal. We'll need to do a favor for him and Ty, but it should be easy." Vanessa said as she began to walk off towards what appeared to be the entrance into Olympus.

Several dirt bikes and three dune buggies waited for them, a mechanic double checking each one to make sure there were no issues.

"We need to deliver that mystery passenger to a place just outside of our destination. An old military outpost, long abandoned up until a few weeks ago. His friends." Vanessa told the group, "Once we get to Siren, we'll need your memory, Alanna. Point us in the direction." The mercenary said to Alanna.

"Pick a bike or buggy and let's move out."

____

"Got it," Alanna replied with a nod, "So where is this enigma, then? Can't exactly play escort if they don't get their ass in gear sometime soon."

She made her way over to one of the bikes and swung a leg over it, shifting her weight around to get used to the vehicle's balance. "Ready to split whenever you are."

____

Vanessa shrugged, handing a mercenary her rifle as she moved to get onto one of the bikes. "Hopefully they'll be out soon." She said, "They were... off-putting when I met them, to say the least." The Chinese mercenary told Alanna.

Almost as if summoned, a tall man approached and climbed into one of the buggies with Benedict. He was dressed for the elements, a scarf covering his head and mouth, goggles for his eyes, and a body covering duster. "That's him." Vanessa said.

"Speak of the Devil..." Benedict said, shifting over to the driver's seat. "We're all good to go, boss." He said to Alanna.

The front gate began to open up, revealing a pathway that led down the mountain and into the Badlands. Vanessa was first to start moving, slowly at first to allow her to put on a pair of goggles of her own.

"Comms on, we have about four hours until nightfall, three hours until we hit the drop, two more to Siren if there's no stops." She told the group, "But, this place is the dangerous. Expect stops."

"Let's move." She said, shooting off down the mountain to lead the convoy.

Vanessa sat in a large tent with her team, at least ten of them total. They were dressed in black, weapons laid out all around them.

The somber looks on their faces indicated that they had experienced a tragedy or two on the backwater planet. They did. They lost one of their own.

"I'm going to go find Alanna." Vanessa said, standing up from her place. "Sonia should have already made it back to Valore with Benedict's body." She told the group of soldiers.

"I think it's time we go home too. Consider this mission something of a success." The woman continued, shrugging dejectedly before turning to head out.

It was the middle of the day on Hera Prime, the planet's twin suns both out in force and making things hotter than they usually were.

Vanessa took in the sights of Olympus, a haven for smugglers and anyone looking to get off of the planet without being harassed by the local military.

There were traders, mercenaries, all kinds of people. It was a hub of illegal activity.

"Alanna!" Vanessa called out, hoping to find who she was looking for in the crowd. "I can sell you weapons, off-worlder!" A merchant said to Vanessa.

"Not interested. Looking for someone." Vanessa said.

"Here, Vanessa," Alanna called back, turning from the weapons stand she'd been perusing to face the other woman. She stepped away, to the disgruntled complaints of the vendor, and made her way towards her.

"What do you need?" It'd been a while since they returned from the Badlands, without the woman they'd come to save, but with a crew of others they hadn't been expecting. It wasn't the blow she'd wanted to strike against the man that had abducted her, but it was something, at least.

"I think we're going home." Vanessa called out as she jogged towards Alanna, "The odds are far too stacked against us." The Chinese operative told the other woman.

"I'm vouching for you when they ask my thoughts on you joining us. I like you, Benny liked you." She said, preparing to say more but pausing.

She looked past Alanna, resting her gaze on a man not all that far from them. "Check it out." Vanessa said, raising her chin towards the man.

He was young, black hair cut close to the shoulders, underneath wide brimmed hat and a dark red duster. In most cases, that was typical of a gun slinger on Hera Prime.

That was until he turned his head a bit, greyish, maybe silver, eyes and the face of the missing, presumed dead, John Izumi.

Alive and well?

"That confirms a suspicion or two."

"Isn't that... John? The guy I escaped from this dump with, way back?" Alanna looked across at Vanessa with a frown. "Suspicions?" she queried. Izumi had seemed an alright sort during their escape, but then, she'd hardly been focusing on making judgements on character. Her frown deepened. Back for revenge? Seemed unlikely, alone. Then why?

"Mhm. One of our people suspected he was dead, I assumed captured. Reading over what he told us, Haley never got the chance to finish whatever it was he planned before you all escaped." Vanessa said.

"If they came back for him, they were probably going to come back for you eventually." She hypothesized, "If he's compromised, a direct approach won't work."

"What do you think?"

"He wanted to turn us into soldiers," Alanna said, frowning. "I don't know how he was planning to, but I'd be willing to bet it wasn't through carefully explaining why it was a good idea."

She looked back at John, then shrugged in answer to Vanessa's question. "We could always just counter-abduct him. Fire with fire, and that."

"He looks normal. Maybe we can talk to him?" Vanessa suggested, "I mean, you, I'm a stranger. We've never actually met and I have nothing to prove I'm Invictus."

"I got your back though."

"Sure, but let's keep counter-kidnapping as a backup plan. It's usually a good fallback that applies to all sorts of situations. Like birthday parties, and elections." Alanna smirked, before starting towards John through the crowd. They'd not known each other long, but escaping from an alien world with someone tended to make them memorable.

"Hey, John!" she called, lifting her hand in a wave.

"If I had a dollar for every birthday kidnapping." Vanessa joked as Alanna walked off, trailing behind her enough to make sure she never lost sight of the other woman.

John perked up at the sound of his name, turning to look for the source of it. "Pay attention, off-worlder." The portly man he was speaking to said.

"Give me a second." John said, his sightless gaze finding Alanna. "What are you doing here?" He called out to her, "He got you too?"

"He got you too."

"Got me?" Alanna tilted her head, fixing Izumi with an assessing look. "For a guy that's been got, you don't look it. Wandering around a place with plenty of tickets offworld, and all. I'm here on business. What happened to you?"

"Lochlyn, he brought me back here." The young man told Alanna. He raised a hand to his eyes, stopping short of touching his skin.

A habit from wearing his opaque shades, "It's a little unbelievable, but... I died." John said, "That's what I was told, at least."

"I don't know if I believe it, but Lochlyn's been surprisingly honest for a madman. He's letting me go home. Put me in contact with Bosky here for a ride home." He explained, gesturing to the rotund man.

"My guess, he wants me to spread the word about his altruism."

Alanna's eyebrow shot up. "Altruism, from the guy that abducted us and tried to convert us into ... I dunno, some sort of personal army? Forgive me if I'm skeptical. Now the dying thing, that I can totally believe. I've lived in Westeria long enough that doesn't even make me blink."

She shook her head, steely gaze assessing John to try and read any changes in him - but she had hardly known the guy beforehand. "A free ride home is great, but ... I'd take whatever he's told you with a pinch of salt, my friend."

"What business could you have here?" John asked Alanna, "I've gotten to explore a bit, and this doesn't strike me as a place people want to visit."

He gestured around at the open-air black market they were standing in.

"It's not family friendly."

"Had a few things to collect after our first visit," Alanna replied with a smirk. "Must've dropped them on my way out. Or someone did."

She paused, considering for a moment, before going for a blunt approach. "He asked you for anything other than to 'spread the good news'? And what exactly has he been honest about?"

"Nothing. He just told me to go home." John lied, though his general stoicism might have made it hard to tell. "He was very forthcoming about what he wanted to do. Still nuts, but he's made good."

"There's a city, Aether is what they call it, that was run by some wealthy and very depraved people." John began to explain, "He got rid of them, improved the city with medicine and security." He continued.

"It's... weird. He had me with him while he spoke to people who lived there. Listened to all their concerns. Real messiah thing he's got going on."

"Yeah... still not a fan of the whole 'abduction' thing he has going for him. Or the cyber-zombie thing. That was pretty bad. Nice that he's cleaned up his backyard, but not so nice that he shat all over ours, yeah?" Alanna grimaced. "Messiahs come in more than one flavour, and not all of them are good news."

"You're here for him, aren't you?" John asked, "I can take you to him." He told Alanna.

"Aether City is a good distance away and I'll miss my ride, but we can probably pay our way there."

"Here for him, how?" Alanna folded her arms and gave John an assessing look over. "If you're asking if I'm out here for vengeance, I'm not. I'd soon as not be shot of this whole affair, if I'm honest. I don't fancy putting myself conveniently within his reach again, either. He might have done good by this world, but he didn't do good by me. So I'll probably pass on that particular offer."
