How did you discover roleplaying?

In '03, a friend of mine in Highschool was into it and she introduced me to it. She was a part of an New Age Assassin's guild on Gaia. Ahahaha - Oh man. Time does fly.

My roleplay journey began about 2-3 years ago after watching an anime. Up until that point I had only wrote fanfics and original stories in my spare time.

I sought out a forum for it, just to find other avid fans but ended up joining, starting to rp, and becoming a mod there. Even to this day I'm still rping there.

For me who had only known the joys of creating a world with my own hands, Role playing was more exciting because it involved someone else..and creating a living story together. I'm very visual, so when writing I see and hear everything as if it were a movie; Roleplays are like never ending shows to me. lol

In January 2013, I had an idea for a book (which died mid-way due to writer's block and no longer exists, but I remember the concept being okay). I wanted to write the book online, save me doing it on paper and getting wrist cramps. Thus, I stumbled upon Wattpad, and the roleplay community that had managed to blossom within.
Haven't touched that site in a good few years, though. Kinda outgrew it, and the orange colour scheme hurts my eyes.

Neopets. I was on the "Evil Creatures" and something or other forum, and someone posted an rp thread there. I joined in, and started on the rp forums there when I found out there were more of them, and what we were doing had an actual name.

I also discovered my love of roleplaying on Neopets! I did a lot of one x one back in the day.

I found the joys of role-playing back when I was like, 12 or 13, maybe even a little bit younger. When Dial-up was a huge thing. I had found a random chatroom while browsing the internet, and everyone there was role-playing as one of their favorite characters. I ended up being Heero from Gundam Wing and had some weird relationship with someone playing as Rogue from the X-men. Crazy times.

I think it was when I was around 13-14 and I had found a site that no longer exists now, unfortunately. I remember it being on proboards...jeez, does that still exist? Anyway, it was on this site and I was such a newbie with one-liners, no ideas, random thoughts and then finally I got a bit more experienced in what I was doing and then created my first idea which I still have with me but now more fleshed out and hoping to turn it into a novel.

From what I remember, someone on one of my favorites sites at the time made a thread that linked to Shamchat, which I quickly became addicted to and developed my roleplaying skills by seeing how other people did it. And now, even though I've not been on Shamchat very often anymore, I still love roleplaying and try to find new places to chat whenever I get the chance.

I go on Shamchat in cases of extreme boredom. It's good for occasionally picking up people who are absolute gems to roleplay with, but you have to often skip through many people to find one. Or at least, that's how it is in my case. If you like illiterate one-liners, then not so much, heheh...

Now, let me tell you about a tale, tale of a young girl who was chosen to depart on adventures that took her to all kinds of places-... Nawh. Not that exciting.

Sadly, my discovery of roleplaying isn't that much of a big revelation. I used to play a bunch of Warcraft III: Frozen Thrones, and I loved this custom map called SotDRP. It is a world builder, but with the props and commands of Warcraft III. You could build an entire world and the possibilities were limitless with all the command codes. I soon realized (with my poor English skills at the time), that people started to roleplay there. I was introduced to a clan and from there, it just took off. I miss those times when I could build entire civilizations, watch massive battles between army and RP in the political intrigue.

But, my level of writing and roleplay took off when I started to roleplay in MMORPGs, and eventually become guild leader of Shadowleaves, a Night-elf guild on EU Argent Dawn.

I found out about it through some kind of Tumblr post probably, and then I went onto Omegle for a while for fan rps. (No, not smut, I haven't realized until later about the reputation of Omegle, for me it was really fun and quick, which was nice for my-then-English knowledge.) After that I kinda fell off, but picked it up now and again until my girlfriend made a huge RP on discord. :) That was a lot of fun! (It's still around, but I had to kinda leave the RPs, because I didn't have enough time to catch up with all the wonderful RPs)

When I was thirteen or so, I saw a boy reading a book. It had a mouse on the cover. The mouse was dressed in a light-green habit, and he was holding a sword aloft. There was one word on the front. "Redwall." It was such a strange combination--the image and the word--that I was instantly curious. I asked the boy about it, and learned a couple of things: That it was an accelerated-reader book in a series worth a lot of points, and that the boy did not want to prolong the conversation because he did not like me. So I waited until he returned the book. (There was only one copy in the school library.) Once I checked it out, a read it in the way a starving man eats a meal. When I had finished, I was sad, because...well, I did not know that there were more books. There were not any more in the library, anyway...

So, off to the internet I went! I searched for "Redwall" sites, and came across a wide variety of them--most of them poorly-constructed fan sites, but there were a few that had some kind of interaction on them. To my delight, I realized that they were people that were writing stories together. All you needed as to have a character. What I didn't realize initially is that you did not need to have a character that was already in the books--you could create anything and anyone you wanted...

...and once I realized that, there was no stopping me.

A long time ago, I believe I first started roleplaying on gaiaonline. I think it was a vampire x werewolf rp. lol

When I stumbled on my Dad's AD&D collection, back when I was 8 years old and living in a small town of around 800 people. Had nothing better to do, so I engrossed myself in it.
