Zara's Park Tournament (Pokemon RP)

@romamaro

The Chingling yawned and the Zorua began to feel a bit drowsy. It could fall asleep at any moment, but it wouldn't give the trainer the satisfaction of capturing it and began an attack, rapidly swiping at the Chingling and trainer with its claws, cutting up the two a bit.

"Hmmm.." Patty taps a finger on her chin. She wasn't sure of how to feel about travelling with someone she had just met but she supposed it wouldn't hurt. The safari park seemed pretty secure and closely monitored as it is. From the amused chirps coming from her croagunk, it seemed like Ribbit would like travelling with this trainer and his partner too.

"Sure. I don't see why not."

@jrusso20

His smile grew wide and he gave Patty a friendly pat on the shoulder. "Perfect! It's settled then. Guess we should start making our way over to the next town, maybe find some partners along the way." The musician stated as he led the crew onwards, taking it slow so that Patty could keep up with him. Kovu was a little ball of energy and constantly darted ahead of their group before coming back, it was akin to him playing catch with an invisible stick.

As they moved along, Jared looked back and asked Patty, "If you don't mind me asking, what made you wanna come all the way out here by yourself? The little one not withstanding of course." He added, indicating the Croagunk with his words. "I imagine it must be tough for you to get around without a friend who speaks the same language looking out for you."

Riley let out a wince as the sharp, tiny claws raked across her skin. They drew blood, which she wasn't pleased about in the slightest. Bella was subject to the same attack, but maybe a little bit more vicious than what her trainer got. "It's about to fall asleep! Use Wrap!"

Patty grunted a little in muted surprise at the shoulder pat. She wasn't really expecting that considering that she can't see it coming. She nodded at Jared with an enthusiastic grin. Despite what one might assume from her visual impairment, she could keep up the musician just fine. She was used to navigating without sight and the sound of his footsteps was enough for her to keep track of him.

"Well, why not?" the girl answered with a shrug."Wanted to get back into training and battling and thought this tournament would be a good way to get back on track. It's not my first time travelling, but yes it does help to have someone else to talk to."

The Zorua gets entangled by the Chingling and tries its hardest to get out of Bella's wrap. As it struggles, it only causes the Pokemon to become more exhausted as it fights like a fish on a hook. It wasn't long until it finally the Yawn takes effect and the Zorua falls asleep in the Chingling's wraps.

Jared gave a hum of consideration at her words. Soaking them in, he had an amount of admiration for Patty, to be a trainer decent enough to enter this tournament while visually impaired was nothing to sneeze at. "I actually came to this tournament for the same reason. Build a team from scratch just like the old days. Wow, I sound like an old man when I put it that way." He said with a laugh. "Ah, the downsides of letting you become a trainer at 10."

While the two were on the move, Jared was keeping an eye out for potential pokemon partners, not just for himself, but for Patty as well. For his team, Jared had two types in mind. A fire type because fire was his signature element, and a flying type to cover Kovu's ground weakness. Looking at Patty's Croagunk, he decided to ask her. "By chance, you from Sinnoh too?"

Patty had to giggle at the remark. Jared did sound a little like an old man then. She could relate to that sentiment to some extent though, despite starting up as a trainer at a later age than Jared did. That was what she was here for as well, to make a fresh start. "Mhmm? I rather missed the old days too...I guess we can both be old folks together then,huh?"

While Jared kept an eye out for nearby pokemon to add to his team, Patty kept an ear out. She trusted her croagunk to notify her if they came across any wild pokemon anyways.

"Sinnoh? No, I'm from Kanto..." A look of confusion was on her face now. Did she look like someone from Sinnoh? For all she knew she didn't have any notable features or accent that would lead to being mistaken for being from Sinnoh.

The struggling made Riley cringe a little. Hopefully, the Zoura wouldn't take it too personal. She quickly delved into her pocket, pulling out one of the park-balls they'd been given at the beginning of the journey. "Get out the way, Bella!" She mumbled. Once the Chingling wasn't going to get hit, she threw with pretty decent aim, landing right on the sleeping pokémon.

The ball hits the pokemon in the head as the ball opens up and sucks up the Pokeball before landing on the ground the ball shakes, once....twice....and the third time the ball clicks confirming the capture. The trainer's Gear Roster turns on giving the trainer information of the new pokemon.

Out from the corner of your eyes, you see a flock of Starly immediately fly from the tall grass and into the air, seemingly trying to escape something. From what you do not know, but soon found out as a Deerling steps from the grass to meet the trainers that had invaded its territory. It stomps its hoof trying to scare off the trainers and looks ready to attack if needed.

Upon hearing that his new friend was from Kanto, Jared's eyes raised, and she said it with enough confusion that he sort of felt like an idiot for asking in the first place. "Oh, my bad then. I've just been living in Sinnoh for a while and know that Croagunks are native to that region, so I was curious on how you got yours."

This train of thought was derailed however as a flock of Starly erupted from the bushes nearby. Kovu could sense danger and came over to protect his trainer in case anything dangerous might burst out. Turns out that it was a Deerling, cute as a button but with quite an intimidating look on its face. As it stomped it's feet threateningly, Kovu stepped between the trainers and the wild pokemon and let out a hiss. It's ability Intimidate should've startled the Deerling enough for it's attack to lower.

"Hold that thought, Patty. Looks like this Deerling wants a battle." He said to the girl as he took a step towards Kovu. "Kovu, use charge while you're staring it down. If it chooses to attack, face it with a two times effective Spark." If he was remembering right, Spark would normally do half damage, but with Kovu charging up his electric attacks, Spark should do the same amount of damage that it would against other pokemon neutral to electric attacks.

The deerling saw that the intruders aren't backing off so to start off the battle, the Pokemon closes its eyes and steps back into the brush and its body seems to turn invisible as it camouflages itself with its environment.

The flapping of wings and the rustle of tall grass caught Patty's attention. For a while there she thought they would be facing off against a flying type pokemon. But then there was the stomping. According to Jared, they were up against a deerling. Patty had only heard of this pokemon from documentaries she'd listen to out of boredom. She did know that it was a dual-type though, half-grass type if she remembered correctly. Ribbit probably had a type advantage, as long as the other half of its typing wasn't poison. She was not sure what region it was from either.

The croagunk, who had been walking by Patty's side, had now positioned herself between her trainer and the wild pokemon, poised for battle.

"Ribbit, stand by." The blind trainer commanded. And then in a less commanding tone, "I think Jared will be taking this battle...uh..right?"

The Deerling runs back and forth in the foliage, making it seem it is everywhere at once. Once it was sure the enemy was confused about where it will was, it immediately jumps from the foliage and tries to kick Kovu with a powerful kick. As it falls, it looks into Kovu's unflinching eyes and it hesitates for but a second, softening the attack.

Blake hummed along to a tune from his head. It wasn't the best, and it chanegd every so often but he liked it. The two pokémon at his feet had different opinion however, if the looks they gave him were anything to go by. The group had been trwvelling for a good few hours by now, luckily coming across a few bushes with edible berries earlier so they could make dinner.

It was almost night by now, the sun just beginning to touch the horizon and wash the fields in a golden glow. Blake had no doubt that if he could get a birds eye view of the zone in a few hours, it would be lit like the night sky as trainers all over started campfires and set up tents.

Continuing along, it took only twn more minutes for him to spot a figure out in the distance. Glancing at Sam and Anna, he speeds up into a jog. If it was another trainer, it would be good to get some training in for Anna. As he approached however, he noticed that he actually knew this person. It was his boss.

Nos usually, that's a pretty dangerous thing. To meet your boss outside of work. But Blake and Riley had always gotten along, so he wasn't afraid to raise his hand and call out to her, jogging along with his pokémon. "Oi! Riley!"

@romamaro

Riley glanced at the info on her Gear Roster. She grimaced. "Best not to let him out just yet," she mumbled to Bella as she picked the Chingling up. "Good job in that battle, honey," she said as she tucked the pokeball into her pocket. She scratched the bell pokemon on the top of the head, getting a satisfied jingling in return.

She stared to walk again, though with minimal interactions. There were no more successful - or even attempted - captures, and Riley still hadn't let the Zorua, who she had decided was going to be called Richie, out of his pokeball. If she let him out in the wild, he might just try and run off. It would be better to do it when the group were inside.

She was considering stopping to set up camp for the night when she heard someone call her by name. That was weird; she'd not even really spoken with anyone so far, apart from a couple polite hellos. She turned around and squinted at the approaching figure in a mixture of trying to see who it was and suspicion. It was a few seconds more before she recognised her tall employee.

She let out a harsh laugh that carried across the fields. "Well, look what the Meowth dragged in!" She called out, starting to walk towards him.

"Blake! How're ya doin'?" She asked as they got closer. "Great to see ya here! Guess you're back on the battling road, eh?"

@TheGreenerGrey

Blake grinned at his boss as he clapped her on the arm. The two had always had a friendly relationship, so it was great to see Riley here. At her question, he gives off a small laugh as he scratches the back of his head. "Heh, yeah that's the plan! Heard about this tournament, figured I could use it to get back into the swing of things, ya know?" He says cherrily, before his tone becomes a bit more serious. "I still haven't given up."

Looking down for a sedond after saying that, whether because of embarrassment or just nature, he spots Sam and Anna approaching a... a uh... bell thing. It looked kind of familiar. Like a weird chimecho. Maybe it was a preevolved form? Pointing at how their pokémon were interacting, he felt himself grow a bit more cheerful, if that was possible.

"Seems like these guys are getting along fine! Where'd you get that... pokémon? Oh, and how have things been going?"

Riley chuckled. "That's good. Gotta keep your eyes on your goal." In all honesty, she was giving advice about something she didn't really know that much about. Her only aspiration prior to the tournament had been to take over the daycare and make it succeed. It sounded like something someone wise would say, though.

She looked down at the pokémon. She knew the Poochyena, what with how common they were in Hoenn, but she was less familiar with the little pink ball. She crouched down to get a look at her. She'd have to ask Blake about her. Her attention was snatched away by Bella, who was jumping up and down, excited by the presence of not one, but two friendly pokémon.

"This is Bella," Riley said, holding a hand over the psychic type, "remember the old Chimecho that got left for years? Well, she laid an egg a couple weeks before I left, and when it hatched, little Bella was right there." She chuckled. "I was going to bring one of Sophia's babies-" Sophia was the name of Riley's Masquerian, whose eggs had hatched while Blake was working at the daycare, "-but how could I say no to this little girl?" She laughed a little as she stood up straight again.

"I've been doing fine. But the daycare's a bit down on her luck," she lowered her voice, leaning in as she said this. She had always been very secretive about the financial status of the daycare, but in his last few working days Blake might have noticed a distinct uncharacteristic stress in her. "That's why I'm competing. For that big lump of cash." She grinned.

Blake nodded solemnly, although he was a bit surprised. He had always known the daycare hadn't always been the best out there, thst much had been evident by the general aged condition of half of the buildings. But still, to need the prize money to be able to fix it... it saddened him.

"You know, you could have asked me for help." He states. As a former league contestant he still had a large amount of Poké left, having sealed it away so he couldn't squander it. He would have been completely willing to lend most of it in the name of the daycare though.

Looking down at the chingling, the tainer crouches and reaches forwatd to pat the baby pokemon, earning jealous looks from Sam and Anna as he does so. Speaking of, when he stands back up after cuddling his two, he introduces them. "This is Sam, you already know he's a Poochyena. What you don't know is that he's the best partner I could ask for." He states, proud as he turns to Anna. "And this is Anna, a bounsweet. I think they're Alolan. She's such a sweetie." He says as he cuddles said pokemon, earning a squeak.

"You catch anything yet?" He asks Riley, looking up from where he was coddling his two.
