Deus Ex Machina Twilight River

Calista Norcross-Twilight River

Calista, after arriving at the river, decided to searched a little farther up the river for the sword. She didn't trust a single one of them. Glancing at the shore she saw someone approach the group and start talking to the leader. It was at that moment she saw the sword laying in the river to her right. Pretending to trip, she fell in the river and hid the sword in the bag on her back with her weapons. She looked around to see if anyone noticed. To her it was suspicious that the leader knew exactly where to look for the murder weapon. "Sorry tripped over a rock," she said as everyone gradually looked her way.

Sid - Twilight River

Sid thought for a moment. Ah. It came to him. The river was the perfect place to dispose of a weapon... Then he thought some more. But only if you where a common criminal. This was a goddess. Wouldn't there be better ways to dispose of a weapon?

He was distracted from his thoughts when a loud splash came from the river. One of the party members, a young man, had fallen in. He came back to the group, dripping wet.

"Sorry, tripped over a rock," the man said.

Sid would have believed him. Humans where such clumsy idiots. Always running into things, tripping, bumping, breaking. Sid could almost find it amusing. If he had a sense of humor.

He did have, however, a good sense as to whether or not someone was lying; the one thing, it seemed, that humans did quite well. It took years of working with Victor on many cases to develop that sense and even then it wasn't completely accurate. But it wasn't completely wrong either. Something wasn't right with the man. But Sid would just observe him for now. No need to jump to conclusions yet.

Mr. V. - Twilight River

The masked man huffed as Nadri forced him to follow her, having to hold back a grunt of disgust as a member of their search party wound up falling straight into the water. The incompetence of this group seemed very apparent. Once they were a decent ways away from the group, Harold decided to converse with the girl once more. "Seems like such a waste, getting one contract from William when all the contracts you could be getting are from his enemies. They may be lesser paydays individually, but combined you'd probably make 3 times as much money in one year then his contract pays you at once. You kill me, no one else is gonna want to hire you."

Julius Granville - Twilight River

The short blacksmith sneered at the rude response he got from the leader of the group. "Fine, no skin of my arse." He muttered as he walked off towards the pub to get a drink.

As the blacksmith walked away, a sliver of shadow crept up from within the lake. It moved into Ginger's line of sight and formed an arrow that pointed to Isidro, the man who had fallen in the water. Then as quickly as it appeared, it vanished.

ELIZABETH - TWILIGHT RIVER

Elizabeth knelt at the edge of the darkened river. Her three dragonflies tapping the surface of the water, letting ripples form. Looking up from her past-time, the automaton noticed the copper fox that had curled up beside her. Reaching out to pick up the slumbering figure, Elizabeth stood up and rummaged through one of the many pockets in her vest. Her hand returned with a small copper key in its grasp. Turning the fox over, one could clearly see a well-crafted key hole. Into which slid the self-same key that had appeared from the automaton's pockets. Giving it a few spins, the fox began to stir with life once more. Placing Tony back on the ground, Elizabeth looked around her.

The silvery hair of hers, having been tied back in a ponytail, began to flutter in the light breeze. A little ways down the river walked a rather large group. One of whom was soaked with water. Inwardly cringing, Elizabeth silently prayed for the unlucky one's joints. With a slight whistle, Elizabeth called the three copper dragonflies to her. Then, with an interested smile, she sent them flying over to where the group was. As the three tiny automatons flew overhead, Elizabeth was able to see and hear the group with much better clarity than before.

The one who had fallen appeared to be a woman. There also appeared to be another automaton there, though that might have just been Elizabeth's eyes playing tricks on her. Then, one of her dragonflies overheard a conversation between one of the men and one of the women of the group. They had said something about some guy named William, they were also talking about these things called contracts. Based off of clues from the context, Elizabeth figured the contracts to be like the orders that her old master used to receive.

Suddenly, one of her dragonflies caught sight of a large burly man walking away from the group. The man was Julius Granville, Elizabeth had seen him several times working at his incredible forge. Letting her dragonfly do as it wished, Elizabeth watched the blacksmith from afar, her face a bronze mask.

Ginger smiled as she noticed the arrow and looked over to the person it was directing her towards. A smile grew on her face knowing that he was near and he saw what she had missed, would have went unknowing that the female had the murder weapon for the rest of the trip. Muttering a soft thatnk you, she walked over to Callista. It would only be a matter of time now before she could see him again. "You tripped over a rock right into the weapon we were looking for, no?" she asked, continuing her trek until she stood right in front of Callista. "But I feel that you would tell me you didn't find the sword, right?"

Nadri smiled at Victor. "I kill you, people will know that I get the job done. My market expands." She turned towards him. "You know that if I really wanted to, I could by now. But some suspicion about my contract leads me to hesitate the task. Should we team up, kill him then loot the spoils or should I follow through with my contract?" she mused. "I know for a fact I don't trust him as far as I could throw him. In fact, he could be waiting to kill me when I return and keep the money. These thoughts dance in my head. I heard about you, I'm sure most assassins have. With your exprience, tell me, what should I do?"

Calista Norcross-Twilight River

Calista heard the sound of someone walking her direction and looked up to see Ginger heading her way. As Ginger spoke she held her hand up to her head and switched back with Isidro. Sorry Isi for not being able to let you in on what went on while you were out this time, she thought as Isidro woke up.

Isidro woke up to see he was in some place he never went with someone he didn't know standing in front of him looking at him expectedly. "Who are you and where am I," he asked wincing as a sharp pain split through his skull forcing him down to his knees.

Sid - Twilight River
If the automaton could raise an eyebrow he would have. The human did appear to be in serious pain. However, he did meet a son of Joaquin that tried a similar trick on him, so he wasn't ready to believe what he was seeing quite yet.
"I'd advise caution madam," he said in a low voice in Ginger's ear "There's something not quite right here."

Mr. V - Twilight River

Harold listened intently to what the attractive novice had to say, her conflicted feelings on this contract made for an ample opportunity for him to save his own hide. "Well I'm obviously biased since it's my life we're talking about. But you're right to be suspicious. William hates loose ends, and unless he knew he could trust you as his personal assassin, he'd just send people after you like he sent you after me. On top of that, the man's a bit of a scumbag. I try not to let personal feelings get in the way of a contract, but that man, he's done some shitty things to the people of the sun district. No one would be sad to see him killed, which is why I've worked so hard to destroy his power base. You understand?"

Nadri frowned at the sound of that. She gripped her chin in thought before looking at Harold with a smile. "Well, Mr. V. It seems that I am out of a job currently." She frowned some more as dots connected in her head. "It was you, wasn't it?" she said with a soft smile. "Do you recall the name Hector Mongeau? Someone I just realized as a hitman for Mr.William.You killed him." she said, her tone almost falling to a whisper. She looked away for a moment. "William was the one who called a hit on my mum, I don't know why I didn't catch this sooner but..." she sighed, running a hand down her face. "I should thank you for saving my mum." she moved to sit on the ground, choosing to lean against the trunk of the tree. She minutely enjoyed the feeling of the rough bark digging into her olive skin before turning her gaze back to Harold. "Well, I won't be killing you. That's for sure. I want to kill someone else though."

Ginger looked at the person before her with a slightly startled gaze, narrowing her eyes slightly. "That is quite obvious, dear automaton." She walked closer to Isidro, her hand a light touch on his shoulder as she lowered herself to meet his gaze. "Are you alright, dear? We were discussing a matter, then you...well, I really don't know how to describe it." Taking note of him gripping his head, she laid a hand on one of his hands. A dim golden glow surrounded their hands. "I can't say this is healing but it may help soothe whatever pain you're feeling for a short time."
