Bored? This is the place for you!

That's actually not what Thanksgiving is (the religious bit). Thanksgiving isn't generally classified as a religious holiday at all. Though people who are religious will often incorporate elements of their religious beliefs while celebrating it. Like Christians will often offer thanks to God and Jesus for the bounties of the year, etc. The holiday itself is typically considered a secular holiday and observed by people of many religions (and of no religions).

Thanksgiving (as is observed in the US) is the celebration of the fall harvest, and giving thanks to all that the land provided in the preceding year's hard work. It draws influence from two directions. The first Thanksgiving from the side of the European settlers originated with the first successful harvest in America after nearly all starving to death their first winter. The second is from the side of the Native Americans, because they had been celebrating such things for centuries, long before Settlers arrived. It was this mingled influence over hundreds of years that makes it a holiday pretty exclusive to North America.

If it was specifically a Christian holiday, the settlers would have brought it with them, because Christianity didn't exist in North America yet. It would be widespread through the European countries as well because Christianity is pretty prevalent there.

Hello, I happen to be extremely bored with nobody to talk to. Maybe that's 'cause it's 3 in the morning... Anyone up to chat?

@TheDeathOfABachelor

I would recommend reading this, and ignore whoever told you to just spam the forums so mods would approve/notice you: Account Approval Information

This bit in particular is of pointed relevance:

Spamming WILL trip the system into flagging you for review, but the actual review is done by hand by an administrator. If we find that a person just spammed the forums to trip the system, the user just gets dumped back into the queue to be re-checked with the next batch of reviews because there's no actual content for us to review. It effectively just wastes your time, and ours. It's not the number of posts you make that matter, it's that you make an effort to create engaging interactions with other users. Four really thought out, meaningful posts are infinitely more likely to get an account approved faster than twenty spam posts.

@KiwiKat I approve of the intent behind this thread. If you live in the US, I propose a topic of discussing Thanksgiving noms. Om nom nom.

Question. What was the motive for this approval process in the first place?

When we built Storyteller's Circle, we wanted to focus on community over sheer quantity of users. We wanted a personal touch to everything as well.

The approval system was implemented from the start to largely weed out the aggressive self-entitled sorts that read it and go 'i have to WHAT?! FUCK THAT I'm gone.' Saves a lot of headache down the road.

We don't expect everyone to personally like the process, but by them doing it, it shows a willingness to read the rules and to make an effort to respect the policies established on the site.

We wanted people who wanted to be here for what we actual offer.

I actually like the process, it makes sense. You have to earn your membership. Pretty gut, ja.
Hey Tiko, are we allowed to roleplay while not approved?

Also hi, I'm Erasmus (not my real name but ye)
I like art, tomboy fashion, the colour black, and chatting with people.

Sorry, been at work all day or I would have replied sooner. Unfortunately unapproved accounts don't have access to the roleplay areas of the forum, and can't PM or join chatrooms other than the main OOC chat. We didn't want to allow joining roleplays prior to approval because it would cause disruptions and ruin people's roleplays if an unapproved user joined a roleplay and then we decided to not approve them for whatever reason and they became unable to continue the roleplays they had joined.
