To reply to your query:
I am a heterosexual female but when it comes to role-playing, I find myself predominantly playing gay male characters or even gay female characters. I actually prefer it to playing straight male characters and straight female characters, though I usually make a character to fit into a role the plot requires. I do find it easy for the most part, but sometimes there are characters I make (male/gay) who I find hard to connect with and therefore role-play as well as I'd like.

Becoming comfortable in your sexuality is an important and personal journey. If you have realized that you are bisexual, you might be wondering how to tell other people. The most important thing is being comfortable with yourself and your sexuality. Figure out whether or not you’re ready to come out as bisexual. If you are, you should choose someone trustworthy and supportive to tell. Keep the conversation honest and positive, and you’ll be likely to have a constructive conversation. I am not just saying this for the benefit of me or other ladies or gentlemen, but I am a Bisexual woman and I can't wait to learn about other people that have come out already and if not and you want to talk to me about coming out to you're parents or friends then you can simply contact me on here if you would like.

Looking at the polls, I find the proportions interesting, in particular the proportion of homo or bi females compared to males. Don't know if that category is more attracted to RP or if it's more 'ok' for women to like other women? Don't want to offend anyone, just pondering the poll.

Regarding your query, I'm a straight female (though looking to experience things), but I play about any character except gay men (sorry :-/ ). I try to keep a balance between my characters to have some variety. One of the things I like in RPs is to look at situations through different lenses, and so I definitely don't want to limit myself to straight females.

I'm not one for labels much, but I would put myself on the spectrum of bisexual, in most cases. However, when it comes to rp, it entirely depends on the character, their surroundings, and the other characters involved. If they have a reason to be attracted to another character, then they will, regardless of gender of either of them.

If I had to hazard a guess? It probably has to do with two things.
  1. Female bisexuality and homosexuality is more socially acceptable than male bisexuality and homosexuality in the United States, and a large portion of the user base (probably in excess of 50% though I'd have to poll that) comes from the United States. This would affect the response rate.
  2. LUGs exist, and the majority of the user base falls within that age range. :p
Furthermore, the rate of non-heterosexual options is significantly higher than the nominal average. A study conducted by the Williams Institute back in 2011 found that 3.5% of the population identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual and 0.3% as transgender. This implies that role playing sites (or at least STC) seem to attract a higher than average number of LGBT identifying persons.

It's probably worth noting that asexuals generally have a secondary romantic axis not expressed in this poll.

Choose the option which is most closely related to your position--not all positions are represented to prevent the poll from bloating to hell.

Noted in the first post as is. If all positions were represented, the poll would get to comical levels of delineation and become useless without literally hundreds (if not thousands) of votes, which at the time of the poll's creation was not a realistic expectation.

I usually play a Male, but I’ll play a character with any sexuality.

I’ve tried doing female characters before, but I just can’t get into it. I suppose I’m just used to acting like a guy, so I’m better at it.

While I may be a straight man, I'm not opposed to rp as someone with a different sexuality than myself, it's called being comfortable with my sexuality. As someone who did drama in high school, it's much easier to get into a character who is similar to you, however, it's more fun to act as someone with vast differences from yourself. It allows you to get really creative and it becomes exciting being able to portray yourself as a completely different person. That's why I want to become an actor :D
