If only Ian hadn't butted into their discussion, Mary could have savored that adorable reaction of a boy her age clamming up and acting nervous. However, she didn't enjoy such joys when there was someone butting into their engagements, even if the matter had just been idle teasing. Word spread fast in Hogwarts and Slytherin especially, and regardless of what the matter was, Mary loathed the idea of her business getting out to other people. That's how trouble started; either someone ratted you out to the higher-ups in the social hierarchy and you had to adjust your plan, or they tried to spin a reason to tag with you, making your life all the more difficult because you didn't account for an additional idiot in your plan.

And Martha Rebecca Pleiades hated having to change her plans because of Hogwarts's student body of halfwits screwing them up.

"He overheard the old plan, the one that isn't the one I'm about to tell you," She replied as she planted herself down on one of the leather couches with an exasperated sigh, still trying to keep her voice low as her hazel eyes glanced back around to make sure Ian wasn't still trying to join in. Once that was done and hopefully Sam had joined her on the sofa, she hummed a moment, eyes closing and one set of fingers drumming away on her leg as she continued, "Which is... early in the morning, during breakfast or one of my class breaks. I'll dash into the library, peruse the books we want and mark them down, then hide them among the books of another shelf. Then we wait till the next day, hoping the senior burnout doesn't try following us on a different day and at a different time, and go in with your sister and check out the books."

Her eyes popped back open with an assured nod of her head and the repetitive drumming stopped, satisfied with the basics of the plan as they were. "Not the best plan, but we can make due since most people don't ever remember book titles and hate asking Madam Pince for help," She finished off before shrugging and looking to her friend for any suggestions, "Know a private room we and your sister could study in? Unused classroom, anything?"

Ian Miles the Fourth

Ian rolled his eyes when she made her comment. He looked over at them. " Just to be clear, I honestly don't care about your plans, but if you are going to try something secret.... whispering in you know, the common room seems like a horrible plan. I mean, if you want a plan to work with little risk of anyone overhearing you, then perhaps you might want to find a more private place. The only reason I ever bothered to butt in is that either one of two things is going to happen. One, you are going to execute your plan, be it the new one or the old one flawlessly and no reprecussions will come from it. Or two, or as I like to call it, the more likely option, you will be caught and the whole house will get in trouble. Of course, then I would be forced to mention how I overheard you talking about your first plan and how I knew no more. Of course, there is option 3, but I'm not the type to rat out. I was going to do my own research on the topic, but you know, that hinders me if I rat. Of course, there is the fourth option and nothing happens because the books aren't there for some reason."

Ian didn't bother to wait for an answer, instead opting to read one of the many textbooks for school or at least pretend too.

When Sam found himself dragged over to the couch, he watched Mary take a seat before sitting down himself. He ran a hand through his blond hair, honestly not amused by the idea of changing their plans. It seemed, however, as if they didn't have a choice. "I'll be fine with that so long as we don't have to keep changing our plans due to interference." He honestly wasn't excited about the idea of too many additional people joining them, so if it could be avoided Sam would most certainly find this plan more appealing.

"But, yes, I do know plenty of unused classrooms we could hide in to review our materials. There are actually quite a few rooms we could use." Sam was more than familiar with spots around the school that were the least populated and when exactly no people were around them. During his breaks, the blond spent most of his time looking for more places where he could be alone to read in silence or just to be away from others if he was having a bad day with his illness.

Hearing what Ian had to say once again, a frown spread over Sam's lips. "He is right, you know," the boy whispered to Mary. "We shouldn't be talking about this here. More people are bound to overhear us if we just sit in the common room--even if we do keep our voices quiet." He said nothing in response to Ian's hypothetical options, honestly not worried about the consequences. As far as he was concerned, he was punished daily by his illness, so being punished by the school was something he could tolerate if it came down to it.

The teen stretched his arms after speaking and yawned, sinking down further into the couch. He was honestly beginning to feel a bit sleepy after having dealt with their long day, but tried to shake off the feeling because he still needed to go unpack his belongings in a little while.

((Sorry I didn’t reply! I had school.))
In The Gryffindor Common Room-Prolodge
Melody hadn’t really listened to the headmaster, as it was getting late and she was extremely sleepy, yes, this isn’t her first year. But she still wasn’t used to Umbridge’s eerily peaceful tenure, she had a terrible memory, but she had heard from several of the older students that things were “so much better”. As if! After all, Melody did spend her first year under Headmaster Snape’s tenure, and she still hates the man.

She walked to the common room like a zombie, her head down, and bumping into everyone. Her parents also packed her too many things this year, not to mention her Pygmy Puff squeaking at her loudly, she was excited for the year since her love for magic is still un-watered down from the last two years, just not after the headmaster’s speech and a stuffing of way too much food. So as soon as they reached the tower, she went upstairs, unpacked her pile of everything, and laid on the bed. Melody was going to nod off, but she then realised she had to at least say hello to one of her housemates and groaned. She got up with her bag of lollies and came down and saw Rio, Keith and Caleb sitting together.
She brushed her messy bob cut with her hands and looked at them strangely, before going down and sitting with them. It was an awkward moment, and it was made even more awkward by Melody handing out her lollies to them.

“I’m not a big fan of some of these so you guys can have some..So, what electives do you have? I hate how defence against the dark arts is still not implemented. Umbridge is a bit of a pain.”
Clearly, it didn’t come to her that she was interrupting a conversation. With a bunch of male students older than her. That’s something she would do, not just becuase she’s tired.

@Glostechk @Blacksmith@Otto @Yun Lee
"Oh gee, thanks, Melody!" Taking a green apple lolly for himself, Rio popped it into his mouth, keeping it to the side so he could keep talking. "Electives? Well, since I'm a seventh year, I got three. Managed to score high enough in the O.W.L.s to get into Alchemy, I'm also taking Care of Magical Animals and Muggle Studies. Speaking of..." Rio leaned forward, bringing his knees uo so he could rest his forearms on them. "You guys get a good look at the new Muggle Studies teacher? Kind of a weird looking bloke, if you ask me..."

"Thanks, Stan." Kit replied upon Stanley's comment with a smile. He realized what he meant was worded in a way that made it come out wrong, but he wasn't quite sure how to fix that, and simply appreciated the other blonde's kind words anyway.

Kit simply listened as Yaser and Stanley got into a quarrel of sorts, albeit a bit awkwardly. Arguments were things he didn't really like-then again he didn't like a lot of things involving conflict if he could avoid it-and this seemed like they were going in circles anyway.

"Ahaha, come on guys, we're all on the same team here," Wisteria spoke up with a bright laugh, moving to stand between the two. She didn't have much of a stature to work with like Yaser did, but she had to say something. "Yaser clearly doesn't wanna buy, so no reason to sell to him, right Stan? Let's just sit down and have a nice chat about, uh...anything else!"

@Cromartous @Takumi @Raptor Jesus @Pretentious Pineapple @Josh

Wisteria's words earned a nod in agreement. "I say put the subject to bed, at least for now." He spoke, more than happy to have the subject change to anything else really.

Prologue
A Student's Will to Learn

The departure of the train ride was one that Adele keeps close to her heart as it was a very long goodbye to her father. He would have helped her carry two of her bags as she kept her handbag and a book in her hands. "Haha, don't trip over anyone while you're reading," Adele's father would tell her as they walked to the train station. She didn't want it to seem like she was ignoring her father; however, reading was a way to distract her from developing tears. Even though she was sixteen, capable of taking care of herself, and has done this type of departure for many times, Adele knew her father would struggle keeping the house clean and burning his food all the time. Putting her book down, she would turn to her father, giving him a wide smile. "If I stop reading, then I'd have to listen to you complain about how much chores you'll do when I'm gone." He would gently slap her shoulder in a kidding manner as he knew that's exactly the kind of conversation he'd have with his daughter. "But, it's okay. I already knew you were going to complain, so I took the liberty to ask Mrs. Medine to look after you. She agreed to make you dinner every night and clean the house one day every week. All you have to do is make sure you eat something for breakfast and lunch." Surprised that his daughter had taken the initiative of finding someone to keep up with him, he would chuckle, "Is that going to cost us anything?"

"Nope." She would return the gentle slap to her father's shoulder, sticking her tongue out. "I actually helped Mrs. Medine most of the summer cleaning her home and tending to her garden while you were at work so we had agreed to these terms way before I told you."

As the train arrived, Adele placed her handbag and her books on the floor before lunging herself towards her father, giving him a huge embrace. "Promise me you'll read and respond my letters.
And... If she comes back while I'm away, I'll be the first to know, right?.."

Her father dropped her bags as he returned the hug, kissing Adele's forehead. "Of course. Why wouldn't I tell you before telling anyone else?" She chuckled as she returned to the ground, picking up her bags and books. Saying her goodbyes, Adele would quickly make her way into the train, sitting at a seat where she could see her father outside of the window. As soon as the train left, she went back to opening her book, reading while the train made it's way to Hogwarts.
The train ride had been uneventful, other than of course the usual meet and greet after a long Summer. As the students started to pour out at Hogsmeade station a sense of excitement was in the air, one could almost see the sparks flaring. The students moved on to the for most seemingly horseless carriages that would take them to the gates of Hogwarts castle. Some whispering among the students was heard about how this was the first year that any first-year students were not traveling by boat to Hogwarts, which was simply unprecedented! A tradition as old as the school itself. A safety hazard, evidently. Even though to this day no student had ever been hurt.

The will of the headmistress however, was law. Dolores Umbridge was known as a strict, but fair. On the surface at least. Most had heard rumors about her utter dislike for halfborns and muggles, but if that was the case no one could prove. Even so why would they? She had been a powerful force in the war against Voldemort, working from the inside to dismantle the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters from the inside. Some said it was Harry Potter and his friends, but those going to Hogwarts knew better, even if they wanted to or not. No student could deny however that these past two years had been peaceful and all that fell on to the lap of Dolores Umbridge’s strong leadership.

With these thoughts swirling in some students minds the carriages came to a stop and they were lead into the great hall and sat down next to the long tables of each house of Hogwarts. At the end of the room they could see the teachers looking on. Umbridge had decided when she became headmistress to clear out the old and enter with the new. The only teacher left from before the battle of Hogwarts was Professor Minerva McGonagall, continuing as the Head of Gryffindor house. Her face was that of stone as the others around her seemed to be chatting along rather jovially, most of them at least. The rivalry between Umbridge and McGonagall was well documented, but perhaps that was why the headmistress kept her around? To push her on? No one was quite sure.

“Hem-hem.” The buzzing in the air went deathly quiet as a woman cleared her throat. She looked like everyone’s favorite grandmother decked in sweetly pink clothes and a friendly smile on her face.

Dolores Umbridge took to the stands to address the masses. “Welcome my wondrous students to another year at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I hope you are all well rested for Summer, because knowledge cannot be achieved with a weary mind.” Despite her smile and friendly demeanor, some of the students rolled their eyes. Umbridge loved to hear herself talk and they were going to be here for a good long while. Two hours later it seemed like she was finally ready to finish. “-As we all know this year will continue the trend of no Defence Against the Dark Arts classes. We live in a world of peace after all, and children do not need to learn horrible things like that. I will also like to inform you that Muggle Studies has a new teacher-”

A man with long disheveled auburn colored hair and wearing glasses thick enough that they looked like bottles was ready to stand up before Umbridge continued. “But that’s not important right now and I’m sure however they can introduce themselves in class, whoever they might be. It’s getting late and you children need to be sleeping.” The man looked around awkwardly before, dejected, sat down again. “Hurry now children! Follow your prefects to your respective houses! I hope you all will be on your best behavior. Because otherwise well…Children shouldn’t be naughty.” The last thing Umbridge said came off rather menacing, but her sweet grandmother voice hid the most of it.

With that done the prefects of each houses gathered their respective students up and lead them to their respective houses. While all of them poured out of the great hall it was soon that all of them began to split up to their respective routes and soon enough found themselves in their common rooms of each respective house. Soon enough all students arrived to their respective houses. While it was late the students had more than enough time to catch up some more and unpack the final things from their luggage before bed.

Traveling through the painting that leads to the tower (the secret password is herbivore) members of Gryffindor were met by comfy chairs and a roaring fire in the fire place. Comfy chairs were strewn about and two doors on each end and two spiral staircases one leading up to the boy’s dormitory and the other to the girls.

Not really taking her father's precaution of reading while walking, she would do just that, walking along with the other students as they made their way to the Gryffindor domitory. Umbridge's speech was something that she barely paid attention, taking small peeks into the next words of her book as no one saw her not paying attention. Arriving near the fire place, she would place her book down smiling and greeting the other students.
So, instead, he would pass the time chatting with his housemates. "What have all of you been up to this summer?" he asked. "Feels like ages since I've seen you guys."
"Can't say the same," he muttered, responding to the declarative statement rather than answering the question. Judging by his desire to sleep right now, one could infer that sleep was one activity that he had done in the summer.
"Well, look on the bright side," Rio told him. "Only one more year to go, then you'll never have to see us again!"

"Oh, this is Keith's last year?" Adele never really kept with anyone so it surprised her to notice how fast time went. "I wonder what you'll do after this - Wait, let me guess! You'll be a professional sleeper?" She had to cover her mouth with her hand to avoid laughing. It took a few seconds to calm down her laughter before returning to the conversation, "I'm kidding. It's just that some of us actually had to work a lot over the summer to take care of a few things at home before arriving here."

"You guys get a good look at the new Muggle Studies teacher? Kind of a weird looking bloke, if you ask me..."

"Honestly, I wasn't really paying attention. I got a good look at him before we left, but I have never seen him before. He does kind of look weird," she then softly whispered to Rio, "but so does a lot of our other teachers around here."

@Yun Lee @Otto @Blacksmith @MelodyMeister

"Pffft..." Rio covered his mouth to keep from bursting into laughter at Adele's comment. It was funny because it was true. "Yeah, Umbridge certainly has an eye for, ah...interesting teachers. I can only imagine what that guy is gonna teach us." He kinda looked like how you'd picture a conspiracy theorist to look; Rio couldn't wait to see how he taught...and how the student body would receive it.

Lloyd Whitaker - Prologue

". . .Hm!"

Lloyd Whitaker could only smile.

The seemingly calm, yet tense atmosphere that choked the Ravenclaw common room at this moment could do nothing to phase Lloyd, as he made himself known to his fellow housemates, shuffling through the small herd and standing at the front to meet this year's house Prefect - a role that Lloyd had been humbly pursuing for the past several terms at Hogwarts. He couldn't bring himself to take the position away from those who showed the same aptitude for leadership as he had. Everyone deserves a chance at the limelight; that is, if they show the talent and promise for it.

There was no inter-house bicker that could fetter the excitement Lloyd Whitaker had for another year at Hogwarts - his last year, in fact. There was no doubt in anyone's mind that Lloyd would be going anywhere less than the best and brightest roles in the wizarding world after his tutelage at Hogwarts. For Ravenclaw students, that was the base expectation - or at least, it is now, after Lloyd leaves. A young wizard of his talent would surely be the one setting new standards, no? That is what a Ravenclaw does, and is expected to do. Of course, Lloyd takes any opportunity to share his success with others.

But, one needs a certain position of power to be able to spread the gift of knowledge to the less fortunate. Lloyd has done a marvelous job at keeping his position of respect for the last six years. Charm, wit, and only the most civil means of keeping the right people happy. Hogwarts is a playground, in that sense. A place for the ambitious to truly explore the depths of their own capability.

Who else but Lloyd Whitaker?

Lloyd bowed to his honorable housemate, taking a position next to her. "A fantastic speech, Juno! I think being in this house alone proves our ability to memorize the very values that it's been built upon. However, no voice could've surmised the core strength of Ravenclaw better. We're all here to learn, but. . .it does help letting everyone know just why Ravenclaw is so accomplished."

"That's what we'll be doing with the House Cup this year, yeah? Need to set a good example, you know."

Lloyd looked like he was just about ready to become a Prefect himself.

Returning from the dorms, Nikki descended the stairs rubbing her forearms and adjusting the cuffs around her wrists, and just in time to catch an oddly familiar face standing next to Juno just before their gathered audience dispersed. Narrowing her eyes to focus on him through the orderly Ravenclaw crowd, Nikki's jaw dropped the slightest bit. "No way..." she murmured, disbelieving of her own senses. As she further approached him, though, her tentative steps grew into confident strides, and her narrowed eyes grew wide with excitement. "Lloyd?" Nikki pronounced his name with a curious intonation which posed it more as a question than as a recognition.

Keith Carter
@Glostechk @Otto @Blacksmith @MelodyMeister @Yun Lee @Gryffindor
Rio couldn't help but chuckle at Keith's comment. Honestly, it was what he expected from the guy, considering how he'd acted all these years. "Well, look on the bright side," Rio told him. "Only one more year to go, then you'll never have to see us again!"

It was said with a jovial tone and expression, but deep down Rio himself wasn't all that happy to say that. He really loved Hogwarts (Umbridge aside) and all the friends he'd made these seven years. Sure, he'd stay in touch with a lot of them after, but...it just wouldn't be the same.
A small grin appeared on his face as he thought more deeply about how close he was to graduation. He finally opened his eyes, albeit slightly, but he was staring at the ceiling rather than at anybody else. He stretched his right arm out toward the sky, as if he was reaching for something. "Freedom is in reach..." He had an odd look on his face; one could assume that he was imagining a future where he could go and do whatever the hell he wanted.
"I had hopes defense would be implemented this year. The thought of the loss of such a class... Is disquieting."
Keith stopped being weird and returned to his previous state, but was suddenly intrigued by the news that Caleb had shared. He sat up straight and opened his eyes more widely; it seemed that he was suddenly revived by this revelation. Obviously, he wasn't paying attention to the two hour speech. "Wait, that was removed? Hell yeah! You won't believe how close I was to flunking that class," he exclaimed, chuckling nervously afterward.
"Well, just 'cause it's off the curriculum doesn't mean we can't learn it on our own, right? Maybe teach the basics to the first years too, since we got a few years of that class under our belts."
Keith raised an eyebrow an eyebrow at this. "Pfft... don't we have enough work already?"

Clearly, it didn’t come to her that she was interrupting a conversation. With a bunch of male students older than her. That’s something she would do, not just becuase she’s tired.
Keith gave Melody a look of confusion, but took the candy anyway. He didn't really like candy very much, but he didn't want to make it more awkward by not accepting her gift. "Ah... thanks..."

Her asking about his electives caused him to look at nothing and have a neutral look on his face. He remained silent; it was evident that he disliked talking about what classes he chose, or even thinking about them in general.
"Oh gee, thanks, Melody!" Taking a green apple lolly for himself, Rio popped it into his mouth, keeping it to the side so he could keep talking. "Electives? Keith noticably fidgeted when he heard 'score' and 'O.W.L'. He leaned back in his chair and returned to a more comfortable place: his mind.
"Oh, this is Keith's last year?" Adele never really kept with anyone so it surprised her to notice how fast time went. "I wonder what you'll do after this - Wait, let me guess! The procrastinator came back to Earth and then glanced at Adele with a mildly annoyed look on his face. What was he thinking? Of course his first day would start with someone laughing at him again. He suddenly got 'nam flashbacks to his previous years, remembering how bad he was at magic. His expression devolved into a frown as he looked at nothing again. It was just a joke, yeah, but he wasn't feeling too good right now.

He suddenly stood up from the chair. "Look, I'm just not motivated, alright? I'll find my place in the world... eventually..."

He picked up his luggage and walked toward the dormitories. He stopped and then looked back for a moment. His mood did a 180 degree turn as he addressed the group with a smile and a surprisingly confident voice. "I don't intend to finish my last year with bad grades again. This time, I'll go out with a bang. You'll see!" Despite being a bad student, he still had a sense of dignity and perseverance, which was likely the reason why he was a Gryffindor.

And so, he retired for the night.

"Hmm, yes, indeed. But do beware, too much pride can lead to arrogance. We're not Slytherins after all, not that there's anything wrong with that inherently," Juno replied to Lloyd sternly, waving her wand about idly like a teacher with a ruler. Still, she appreciated his and Julius's enthusiasm if nothing else. Apathy was the worst emotion anyone could ever harbor beside utter malice, after all. "In any case, that's it for the formalities, everyone. Feel free to spend the last of your leisure time before the term starts," she spoke, allowing the crowd to disperse fully throughout the Common Room with that.

Walking past Julius and Lloyd, Juno glanced toward them briefly. "I'm going to make some tea. Would either of you care for any?" She asked, before making her way to the side and pouring a cup for herself. Earl grey, to be exact. The most common kind in England. As she made her cup, Juno took a sip, before giving the boys a warm, relaxed smile. "I take it you two had... interesting Summers? Mine was somewhat humdrum; I suppose the most exciting part was when my neighbor's garden had suffered from a small pixie infestation, and he enlisted my help in casting them out. Never had I been so glad before to have known Rictusempra, hmm?" The Prefect said with a light laugh, though someone who was socially observant could tell it was a somewhat awkward take at attempting casual conversation.

"Speaking of, do either of you happen to indulge in Chocolate Frog Cards? I didn't really want to accept my neighbor's reward when he offered some Knuts, but I didn't really feel comfortable getting paid for common courtesy, so he gave me one of those cards himself. I imagine it must be valuable in some regard since it's golden, and it's of Bertie Bott, not that I particularly enjoy his Every-Flavored Beans. Those are quite vile, really..."

@Gummi Bunnies @CrunchyCHEEZIT @York @Archmage Jeremiah

Lloyd shook his head politely at the prompt for tea, but he seemed attentive enough to listen to the Prefect describe her summer activities. He'd smile and nod, recalling his own summer activities. "Oh, mine was quite the same. I didn't have the opportunity to indulge in much service around the neighborhood, I had to study. It was kind of frustrating, really. It's not a 'great' summer when the most notable event was paying respects to distant friends-of-friends after an unfortunate gardening incident. I'm in no place to be judging anyone for cultivating Mandrakes in this day and age, but. . .oh, you know. The usual humdrum!"

"I used to collect those Chocolate Frog Cards, but I've lost the time to commit to the trade. I. . .think I have a few silvers lying around back at home. Though, you should hold on to that, Juno! You never know, that information might be useful to know. . .ah, even if it is about vile beans."

"Anyway, I--"

Lloyd froze, as if he's just heard a Mandrake himself.

". . .Nikki?"

Lloyd didn't even need to turn around to recognize that voice. Though he did turn around anyway. He had to. Nikki managed to get a full view of his face - that was most definitely Lloyd Whitaker. The blonde hair, the lavender eyes, and the strange resemblance between him and David Bowie (she'd know that after living as a Muggle for so long, right?). A good sight to behold for anyone, of course, but it was particularly relevant now due to Lloyd remembering an earnest, troubled girl from his first year. One he'd found some enjoyment helping out despite what everyone said about her being a Squib. One who had, despite her failures, showed every character trait of an aspiring wizard.

Though, Lloyd wouldn't have seen it that way back in his first year. She was just a clumsy friend of his. Then she vanished abruptly - it wasn't completely unexpected, but it made the tiniest scratch on Lloyd.

And now she's suddenly materialized here, like from thin air.

"Nikki! I -- wha -- how did you. . .? Where have you been?" Lloyd stuttered like a fool, trying to piece together how the seemingly hopeless girl suddenly resurfaced six years later, now appearing before him in the same house, in the same class. She

"There's nothing wrong with that," Adele gave Keith a smile. "You just have to find motivation." She remembered Rio and the others mentioning a class being removed, a class that she also struggled in passing. However, the girl didn't let that affect her mood whatsoever. She knew she was a late bloomer and with practice she could improve greatly. "I hope that new professor doesn't teach anything that particularly hard. If it's anything that involves performing magic, I'll have to stay up late every night practicing," Adele chuckled nervously. She saw how Keith reacted to her joke, making her feel as if she made him uncomfortable.

Adele turned back to Rio and the others, "Honestly, if any of you are struggling or need help practicing I'm up to having a small study session every now and then."

Sam blinked upon hearing what Ian would say to Alcander, his pale face once more flushing into a red blush that would fill his cheeks with color. He felt his heart sink into his stomach afterwards. "H-Hey, telling other people is pretty much the same thing as ratting us out, you know," Sam mumbled, his voice squeaking anxiously. It wasn't as if he was in any trouble yet, but he wanted to keep it that way if he could help it--even if it wasn't a primary concern.

"Yes, but unlike your father, I have a sense of morality and good judgement." Stanley replied with a shrug.

"There's a fine line between criminal activity and making some money on the side. I don't charge absurd amounts for the various items and spells I sell. In fact, since you're a good friend, I'm willing to let you have this spell for a mere five sickles." Stanley said, obviously not seeing any wrongdoing in his actions.

Laying casual on the frowned, Ross's thick new york accent rang around the room Ross was a man who normally seemed aloof, but his housemates knew if he spoke up about something. He had a good reason. Standing up, He didn't look as he walked away taking a seat near Kit.

"That's how it starts. Everyone's a hero in their own story, but before not everything can be justified with a 'them and us'" Yaser rolled his eyes. What a great start to the year. Still, Ross was right; it probably wasn't going to war over. If this guy wanted to throw his soul away, then that was his choice. Yaser's only moral responsibility to make sure he didn't drag anyone else down with him "C'mon, man. The first years are looking up to us.

Stanley was more than happy to change the subject off of his "business endeavors." It was of no concern to anyone else around him, really. He made money where he sae the opportunity, and that was that, really.

Though, he couldn't help chime in when Yaser mentioned betting. "How much are you willing to bet?" He asked with a smirk.

Slytherin

Sam blinked upon hearing what Ian would say to Alcander, his pale face once more flushing into a red blush that would fill his cheeks with color. He felt his heart sink into his stomach afterwards. The people conversing in Slytherin suddenly heard a very tired and raspy sounding voice. "Yes, imagine that is what happens when people cannot keep their words to themselves." At the entrance to common room stood a very lanky and tall figure clutching an ornate staff. The crevasses on his face were deep as canyons and his eyes so sunken you'd think you were starring into darkness. The students knew him as Kristoff Swagglebone, the Head of Slytherin House since last year. Much like Snape before him he as well was their Potion Master. Unlike Snape who seemed to show favoritism to his own house at least, Professor Swagglebone picked no sides. He was nasty to everyone.

His staff slammed into the ground with a hard thud as he moved in closer towards the students. "Am I to expect yet another year of questioning authority." He said eyes narrowing as he looked through the common room. "Was not last years debacle enough, or do you wish to sink this house even further down into the abyss? What are we? Gryffindor?" As Professor Swagglebone waited for an answer, the other three houses would have similar visits.

Gryffindor

Keith Carter
@Glostechk @Otto @Blacksmith @MelodyMeister @Yun Lee @Gryffindor

Keith raised an eyebrow an eyebrow at this. "Pfft... don't we have enough work already?"

Keith noticably fidgeted when he heard 'score' and 'O.W.L'. He leaned back in his chair and returned to a more comfortable place: his mind.

"Not so fast Mr Carter!" The voice came from the entrance of the common room. "I know we are all tired but there are a few things that we need to run through before you can go to your very deserved sleep."

Stepping in was none other than the head of house Gryffindor Minerva McGonagall. "I hope both old and new students alike have started to acclimate and found their proper places in the dorm?"

"If gambling wasn't illegal on school grounds I would gladly take you up on that offer!"
A woman looking like being in her early 30 suddenly had appeared in the room. She had long raven black hair and that smirk on her face made her look like a fox who had stumbled into a hen house by pure happenstance. The students knew her as Gloriosa Maximus, the head of house Hufflepuff and their teacher in Herbology, yet another new recruit from when Headmistress Umbridge came into power. "And the reason why I would take you up on that offer Yaser, is because I've heard that Holyhead Harpies are in prime form this year. Not even the Montrose Magpies can withstand them this year!"

Ravenclaw

She

"D-Did someone say Nikki?"
The room was interrupted by an unfamiliar and older voice. Turning around they found the new teacher in Muggle Studies at the door. "I am...very sorry to barge in at this late, but I..." The man sheepishly staggered further into the room with his ill fitting robe and one could assume with those glasses on that he was practically blind with out them. He seemed to be in his early 40s and perhaps if someone could get a brush through his hair you'd get a clearer look of his what seemed to be rather handsome face. "Don't expect a fool to understand the similarity of such actions, Samael," Mary added with a sneer, loud enough to catch both Ian and Alcander's attention on purpose as she narrowed her eyes once again at them, wanting to make sure that they heard both herself and Sam's voices now. Idly, her hand reached into her pocket, tensing as it touched upon a gnarled, willow rod that the half-blood wasn't afraid to utilize as her eye bore holes into both of them, "Besides, it is not our concern if a jester might flaunt his satire before the wrong crowd and meet with an accident... Heartbreaking, yes, but something to be expected from those who don't watch their lips."

"And besides, Samael, we have more important matters to attend to!"
As quickly as her attention had focused upon mentally painting targets upon heads, it was once again solely upon Sam as Mary hummed away and leaned back to lounge on the couch, almost seeming to unwind and loosen like a cat as she smiled at her friend, "Matters such as our summers. Melody nodded at Rio while he was talking about his electives, she didn’t really bother looking at Keith’s way, she might be the youngest in their circle, but even she knew he was a slacker. She waited for him to finish and replied,
“Muggle studies is kind of boring..but so is just about every elective this year, I chose Care of Magical Creatures of course! But I had to choose divination, even if this fate stuff scares me.”
Melody was about to ask him on his O.W.Ls, but noticed they were talking about the muggle studies teacher with Adele, who she waved over to. She kept silent, even though she just wanted to say to them to look at her.

And there went his energy. He sighed deeply and said, "Oh yeah. Forgot about that..." The air was heavy with awkwardness, which was made worse by Melody's unrestrained laughter. He quickly returned to the chair and muttered, "Why are there so many damn rules in this place? Jeez..." There was yet another reason to hate Hogwarts. Still, even though this place may chew him up and spit him out, he would not yield.

He sat there in his chair and detached himself from reality again, hoping to ignore the people that might be glaring at him.

"Speaking of fools, you could no doubt write a whole book about them, couldn't you Miss Pleiades."
Now Mary had the full attention of Professor Swagglebone as he made this way towards her, his staff hitting the floor was like thunder rumbling. "I trust I wont be hearing about extra curricual activities from you this year." He leaned down from his height to look Mary straight in the eyes. "The muggles have an idiom I think you and the rest of your friends need to hear. As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool repeats his folly. Professor Fantasma seemed genuinley relieved at Julius saying that and wiped some sweat from his brow with a handkerchief. "Oh thank goodness, I am h-happy to hear that. But hey, at least their new arrival was a familiar face. "Evenin', Professor McGonagall," Rio greeted, trying desperately to keep a straight face despite Keith's embarrassment and Melody's laughing fit. "Everything is going just fine. It's like I never left."
