I'm fine with role-playing with a character who's a nice guy, jerk, villain, any of that stuff. But if they're a Mary Sue, I'm just waiting 'til the end.

I use persistent characters, but usually, I'll have to make a change to that character to fit in the roleplay. Example: Luke is Pokemon Trainer in one. He's a wizard in another.
