Gotham City, midnight. It was surprisingly quiet on the streets. No bank robberies, no sirens filling the air with their wailing. Even Gotham was allowed respite from time to time. It had been two years since Bane had taken over the city with his army and mighty Colossi. Holding it in his iron fist until it had been liberated by visitors from across time and space. Most lose ends had been taken care of but there was one left after the dust had settled.

Veronica Sinclair, better known by her super villain nickname Roulette had managed to elude capture and had vanished to parts unknown following Bane’s downfall. The trail had run cold, until now. Harper Row, one of the individuals and a Gotham native had been contacted by Batman himself to meet him in an abandoned warehouse at Gotham harbor ten minutes past midnight. The time was closing in but the harbor seemed so far deathly silent with not even seagulls around to squawk.

    Two years.

It had been two years since that night, a night which, quite literally, had changed Harper’s life as she knew it. A change that even rivaled the moment that the Caped Crusader herself took her under her wing. She had found out of the existences of the apparent Multiverse and, after becoming a member of a group known as the ‘United Nations’, Harper also learned that this event had been orchestrated by a higher power, and that it wasn’t the first or the last.

However, despite her Multiversal endeavors, Harper also took the time to help her former mentor whenever she could.

So, needless to say, Harper soon arrived at the front of the warehouse, deciding not to make any fancy dramatic entrance. Those were always Bruce’s thing, after all.

As Harper arrived at the warehouse, she wasn’t met with Bruce, but rather, one of his old “acquaintances”, to put it lightly.

“Took you long enough.” Jason Todd, the Red Hood, said to Harper as he stood next to the door.

“Y’know, when Bruce called, I didn’t think he’d be bringing along his little sidekicks.” Harper said to Jason, causing the latter to only smirk behind his helmet in response.

“Y’know Row, you’re just as much of a sidekick as I ever was.” Jason snarked back as they both entered the warehouse.

“Yo, Bats! I’m guessing that this ain’t a social call, right?” Harper joked as she strolled into the warehouse with Jason following suit.

Inside they'd find Batman standing alone in what had some point been an office. "You'd be right, and the fact that you two are the last ones here..." He'd not in both of their directions as his own little form of greeting to the two. Batman didn't wast any time to lead them into another area of the warehouse. "The reason I contacted you two is because there's something that I need you to do." Batman was quiet for a moment before he spoke. "It's Roulette, I know where she is hiding, and we're going to get her."

“Roulette?! You mean that crazy chick who ran the fight club when Bane took over the city a few years back?” Harper asked in surprise, though said expression soon turned to an almost devilish smirk as she tugged out her pulser rifle.

“About damn time! I’ve been waiting years to take this bitch down!” Harper exclaimed as she began to charge up the rifle, only for Red Hood to push down on the front of the rifle.

“Woah woah woah there, cowgirl. I don’t know, or quite frankly, care what your beef is with this Roulette chick, but don’t let it cloud your better judgement.”

“Really? This is coming from you of all people, Todd?” Harper asked, clearly not taking his warning seriously.

“I made mistakes. Mistakes that I’ve learned from and paid for. And the last thing I or anyone else needs is you making those same dumb mistakes.”

Harper fell silent for a moment, before slowly lowering her rifle. “Fine.” She said.

“Anyways... who exactly is this Roulette person? I assume she’s not your run of the mill thug if you had to call us in.”

"Her M.O. involves illegal gambling and superhuman gladiatorial arenas, usually by kidnapping heroes and villains to have them fight. Her rap sheet is impressive but nothing more then a glorified bookie." Batman replied as they continued towards a door. "But siding with Bane when he conquered Gotham on top of managing to escape with out facing justice, that shot her up on many wanted lists across the world. The problem is though...where she's been hiding." Batman opened the door and motioned the two in. "That's where you two and the rest of the team come in."

Inside they found a debriefing room with three people waiting for them. "The team I've gathered have to look like they have nothing in common. If I went in with the Justice League it would spark an international incident, and we don't have the power to spin that in a positive way, even if it's to capture a wanted criminal. Let me introduce you all." Batman started with an imposing looking man with a skull for a face.

"Atomic Skull, on loan from the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit."

"Whatever dirt you have on Sawyer to get me here I just got to know what it is."

Batman ignored him and continued on. "Porcelain, a local criminal conscripted because of their unusual set of skill."

"That's certainly one way to put it..." Porcelain replied tipping their hat towards Harper and Red Hood.

"Charmed, darlings. It's going to be fun working with the bat litter." The sarcasm was evident in their voice.

Batman continued on. "Orca another Gotham criminal. I believe you and Bluebird met during the crisis."

"Hmph." The giant frame of Orca shifted as she folded her arms. Seemed like she wasn't in a talkative mood.

The duo probably figured that Batman was done considering there was no one left in the room but he continued on. "And finally someone I've been working with closely in the Justice League. The Atom."

Seemingly from out of nowhere a man in a blue and red suit appeared in the center of the room.

"It's going to be a real honor working with you all!"
He looked over the rest of the group with a grin on his face.

"With that out of the way, we're going to start debriefing."

“ ‘Bat Litter’, huh? That’s a new one.” Jason muttered under his breath as he continued on, only sparing her a small glance as she did so.

Upon seeing Orca, Harper flashed her a small smile and flicked a wave her way. Being the only one here she recognied aside from Batman and Red Hood, it was nice for Harper to be among another familiar face.

“So how’d you get these low-lives here anyways, Bats? You offer to shorten their prison sentences?” Jason asked half-seriously as he folded his arms together and leaned up against a nearby doorframe, with Harper hopping up on a nearby table and sitting on it.

Porcelain in turn gave Red Hood a coquettish smile and a wink when they noticed the glance their way.

Orca meanwhile looked over to Harper when she waved but the human killer whale quickly went back at looking down at the floor.

"Uh," The Atom raised his hand rather sheepishly. "Hi, again, I'm the Atom I've worked with the Justice League." He seemed disappointed that no one seemed to recognize him.

"Hey, I'm just here because Batman had dirt on my boss,"
Atomic Skull replied to the Red Hood. "I'm on the straight and narrow, unlike someone whose mugshot I've seen in Metropolis PD. Besides Roulette's on the top ten most wanted list. When we nab her MPD will get the credit for bringing her to justice, and that's just fine with me."

Porcelain spoke up next. "I'm here because I was promised monetary security for me and a friend." They smirked at Red Hood. "If you want to pin something on me you got to dig really hard."

"I'm here so I don't have to listen to kids like you talk bs."
Orca clearly was in no mood for talking at all. Lucky for her Batman took over.

"You have plenty of time to fraternize on the plane ride, but now we need to debrief."
An image of Africa appeared in the middle of them highlighting a small nation. "This is the nation of Buredunia. Ruled by a dictator going by the moniker of Red Lion, this nation has been engulfed in chaos and civil war for years now. This is where you'll find Roulette. Due to the political turmoil in the country it's almost impossible for any foreigners to get any information about it. A few days ago however a drone managed to capture a few images in one of its sweeps." The map changes to that of an image of Roulette talking to someone with guards surrounding them. "As I explained, if the Justice League went in there it would spark a political incident that none of us would get out alive from. That's why we're doing this."

Batman motioned towards the gathered group. "None of you have any connection and wont cause this to blow up in our face in case you get caught. The plan is to air drop you into Buredunia where you infiltrate the capital, grab Roulette, meet at the rendezvous and get extracted. I had Cyborg use his scanners to map the area where you'll and the capital so you wont be going in fully blind. There's a lot of moving parts and a lot of things that can go wrong. Any questions?"

“Uh... sorry dude. I don’t know who you are.” Harper said to the Atom awkwardly before turning back to Orca, who didn’t seem to be in a talking mood. Harper genuinely felt bad for the woman, though she decided to give her some space for the moment.

As everyone explained why they were there, Jason would only scoff at all their reasonings behind it.

“Well you scumbags better hope that you don’t get caught. Cause unless you’re Batman, Bluebird, or that Atom guy, don’t expect me to help you.”

After Batman finished briefing them, Harper casually rose her hand up in the air and stepped forward when he asked if any of them had questions.

“Yeah, can we see this little map that you have? I’d rather look at it now than like five minutes before we get there.”

An audible eye rolling and sighs could be heard from the three that Red Hood aimed his words to. Meanwhile Batman put up the map that they had. The country itself seemed like a desolate wasteland with few farms and even less water and tattered huts all along the way. The capital by comparison looked like a booming metropolis. "There's not much cover from the drop point to the city, but the skirmishes all around the country means that Red Lion's army can't guard every patch of land that's out there." Batman focused in on the city the map changing to a network of streets. "The city on the other hand will give you ample place for cover. From there from what we figured out you need to get to this building."

The map changed once again to a skyscraper. "That's where you'll find Roulette."

“I’m gonna go on a whim here and assume that Roulette’s on the top floor, right?” Harper asked as she looked over the tall skyscraper that Batman had pulled up before them.

    "Underground, actually,
" Batman replied as the map focused on the ground bellow it. "There's a huge complex under said building. Thanks to Cyborg again we know there's an elevator inside that goes down. What you'll find down there however I have no information to give you. Then you'll be truly alone, and the only thing that will help you are each other."

“Like always.” Jason replied as he cocked both his handguns.

“So when are we gonna leave for our little field trip?” Harper asked as she hopped off the table and began to stretch her arms out a bit.

"Now. If this was any other operation I'd have you all train and get to know each other. The window however is slipping further and further." Batman beckoned the group to follow as he headed back towards the entrance of the building. "The trip will take about six hours, during that time I want you to get to know each other and try to figure out who you will work together." He glanced back at the group as they walked. "I understand that this is...unorthodox, but we need to bring Roulette in. She's escaped us for long enough."

    "Don't worry Batman,"
The Atom assured the caped crusader. "I think I speak for all of use when I say that we're going to do everything that we can to get Roulette back here."

Most of them seemed to awkwardly nod along but Atomic Skull responded. "Just as long as someone doesn't mess this up then we're going to do it. We're a real A-Team over here."

“Oh joy, a road trip. I hope someone brought snacks.” Jason snarked as both he and Harper followed closely behind Batman.

“The same applies to you too, y’know.” Harper said in response to Atomic Skull’s comment. “It’s only am A-Team if all of us cooperate, after all.”

"Well I work with the actual cops so..."
A glare from Batman shut Atomic Skull right up.

"Superman vouched for you on this team, don't make me second guess him." Outside on the harbor Batman pressed a button and something big started to emerge from the water. Once fully out the group saw that it was a stealth aircraft of some sort. "This is your ride," Batman said as the back hatch opened. "Six hours and then you'll be at Buredunia. Get to know each other and figure out how you all compliment each other. Good luck."

“Wait... why aren’t you coming?” Harper asked, stopping to face Batman as Red Hood proceeded to enter the aircraft with nothing more than a grunt.

"It's not by choice, but if you get caught and there's a Justice Leaguer among you, Red Lion will have all that he needs to justify his attacks and America will look like an even bigger fool than we already look like." It was clear in Batman's tone that he wasn't happy with the arrangement. The others had already entered the craft as he continued talking to Harper. "That's why I can't come with you, but I believe in you and the rest of them. I picked you all because I believe you will all work in tangent despite your different backgrounds. Trust me."

“Right... yeah, I trust you.” Harper replied before nodding and giving Batman a reassuring smile. She then proceeded to climb into the back of the vehicle as well, flicking the Caped Crusader one last wave goodbye before they took off.

Batman gave Harper a nod as the hatch closed and the plane heard towards their destination. Harper found herself in a spacious hangar area if she went further in to check on the pilot she'd notice that the ship was fully automated. The so called team seemed to be scattered about all around the hangar area with no one really interested in interacting. Except for the Atom who was looking really eager to interact but realizing that he wasn't going to get much was just leaning against a wall.

There seemed to be a lot of work to be done if they were going to act like a real team before this was all over.

Harper decided to make her way over to Orca first off and check up on her.

“Hey,” she said. “How are ya holding up?”

Meanwhile, Jason took notice of the Atom’s eagerness to interact with someone. Honestly feeling sorry for the guy, Jason decided to speak up.

“Yo, Atom.” He said, nodding in his direction. “What’s your story? You can shrink in size and shit, right?”
