On October 19, 2020, at 23:39 GMT, the internet went down all around the world. Most people chalked it up to being a worldwide glitch, something that would fix itself in a few hours. It was a shock for most people, suddenly unable to video call, shop online, or even update their Instagram stories. People suddenly had to rely on physical money, their bank cards and credit cards now useless.
It soon became apparent that this was no small thing. As the next day rolled around, and the Internet still wasn’t back on, people started to panic. Those who solely relied on electronic banking methods no longer had access to the money in their accounts, and therefore no access to money in general. Paper money became king. Banks faced violence as they shut their doors against people desperate for money. Crimes rates rose as people took to stealing out of sheer desperation, as they began to run out of essentials.
No Internet meant that people weren’t able to get paid; not those who were the employees of companies and businesses that used it to pay people. As a result, small cash-based businesses were thriving, as they had the means to pay their workers, whilst larger ones fell due to jobs being abandoned; many people just didn’t see the point in working if they weren’t getting paid. Those with actual money rose to the top of the food chain, and those without clustered around them. They did anything and everything to try to please those now in power, hoping that in doing so, they would gain favor and have access to even the smallest amount of money. This led to those with money becoming very powerful, able to get people to do whatever they wanted.
Within a week, even paper money had become worthless, but by that point, those who had it were in control of the majority of the resources. They hoarded them, and even lied to their followers about what was left. The resources people knew about were quickly depleting, and fights broke out over what was left.
Violence everywhere became worse, many people being attacked and killed in the ever increasing struggle for resources. By January 2, civilization truly had turned on itself. Even those who used to be the best of friends were now the worst of enemies. Everyone split themselves into groups: most of those with power flocked together to protect themselves and others, bringing with them their followers; those without power that refused to become sheep became their own little groups; others opted to become ‘lone wolves’, not getting involved with any of the groups; and there were those who drifted from group to group, regardless of who the groups were, just for the sake of protection.
Attacks and raids were frequent, deaths even more so. It was total anarchy. Bodies littered the streets, burned out cars were everywhere, empty houses were a common sight. Just within the two months without Internet, the Earth's population had halved, and continued to decline daily. Electricity and phones were still working, but for how much longer, who knew. The world was a mess, all because the Internet had been permanently disconnected...

- Violence is allowed, as long as it keeps within the site rules.
- Romance between characters isn't outlawed. Just remember to keep it clean.
- Please keep to a minimum post length of 5 sentences. More is encouraged, but that's the minimum.
- Grammar and spelling, people: they're there for a reason. Use them. The occasional mistake is okay, I don't mind, but your posts do still need to be readable.
- Be prepared to contribute to the story, or there's no point in you joining.
- Even if you think I'm a huge ass, remember, I'm the one who made this.
- Have fun, but take it seriously. Fucking about can ruin the experience for everyone else, so don't be a selfish pratt.
