A Strange Town

As soon as she began to break free of her state, the 8 demonic figures stared at her with those glowing eyes and black bodies. Six of them began to approach her slowly, one was handing an assumed contract to the girl, and the other was watching her. Taking the contract and ripping it, the girl began to run away.
@Alissa Ming

Oh crap! Amber thought. The things were coming slowly. And she scrambled back from them, glad the girl ran. Now it was her turn to go. She checked to see if her cloak was there. That would give her a chance. She could turn invisible with it, and hopefully, escape them that way.

"You ever saw the scene of a massacre?" He asks in a tone much more casual than it should be. "Well, imagine that, but only some of the blood is blood and all the death is on the inside" At the speed, he was going at, the dust spat up to form a soft tornado behind him, heat developing in the soles of his shoes with every inch of his route between the bin and the mess. "But much more traumatising for the victims"

As soon as she ran, the demons gave pursuit to her, and they were clearly faster then her. Luckily, she had a cloak still, so that might be the only way to escape, since the creatures were so quick. They were catching up to her.

“What in the...”
Helen was cleaning up a rather large section, making sure it was very clean, but now that she was seeing the janitor mop up a storm, she was star struck
“How did you do that?!”

Chapter One
It was morning for everyone, which was great since last night wasn’t all that calm like it should be. There were no mess in the radio station as predicted, it just seemed the police cleaned up all the mess. Not were there any exciting news in the papers. Nor of the lights that everyone was on a few days ago. The town seemed quiet, shushed up in fact. The stores were now open, and the ruins still seems to be a place of interest, after breakfast of course. There were also some newcomers in town. If they went to the middle, where the community centre was, that’s where they’ll get a house and settle in. Newcomers are treated as outlaws without a citizenship, and going out one for too long is dangerous.

Too late, the demons are sped up and caught her, they first held her, and then bit down on her. It didn’t feel like she was dying, rather becoming will-less and cold. “Finally, a new puppet to play with...”
Amber woke from the dream in a cold sweat.
Jennifer had just changed clothes and was at the kitchen. Cooking up what seemed to be an English breakfast. She turned her head to Amber and smiled.
“Ah, are you awake? Good, there was something I’ve been meaning to investigate. You also need to go to the middle of Belleville and sign up.”
@Alissa Ming

The three woke up in Zander’s house, unable to leave due to how police were on alert last night. However, when they check what was going on, and how the radio station was, they would see it was all fixed up, and no one talking about it. Like it never happened, but it did, since Leon had that strange book, and he was worn out from yesterday.

"Alright," Amber nodded. She tried to put the weird dream aside. It was just a dream. It had to be. Her feet hit the floor, and she gave directions to Gale where to go as well. She left and headed to the center of town.

Gale nodded to himself as he placed his laptop in his pack, slung it over his shoulder and took off now that it was light to the center of town.

Marina found herself in a dark forest. She didn't know where she was. She made her way out and into a town in time to hear Amber tell Gale where to go to meet up with her. Instead of responding over the com, she headed to the center of town.

Manthis Dragonslayer was new in town. Exactly how he’d Come to this place, he wasn’t sure, but it practically stank of magic and intrigue. He sighed, raised the hood on his cloak and entered town. He’d need a stiff drink if he was going to make it here, so a visit to a pub was in order. He kept a sharp eye out for pickpockets and other, more dangerous things, one hand on the simplistic hilt of his sword.

The centre of town was bustling with people, and in the centre was a building that seemed to be bigger than all the others and wasn’t aligned in rows like all the others. Rather, standing out like a landmark instead. The building had a big sign on it, and a women outside as an attendant, she noticed the three coming, and went to Amber first since she was the closest
“Oh hello! You’re a new face! Come inside, we’ll get you started on your home and job, you two over there come inside as well! We can’t have unregistered people in Belleville, it just wouldn’t be organised.”
She opened the relatively big door, and beckoned them inside. It seems to be a registration building of sorts.

Manthis....He was on the sleazy side of town, tucked away in to the far corner of town, and where Gale had previously stayed the night. There were many pubs, and a few smashed drink bottles on the ground there and then. The way out of the lane has a guard who was just starting his shift, and there was a gate letting people in or out. He had quite a few choices, since there were at least three of them. One seemed to be older, and like the setting of a criminal meetup, the other seemed to be a high class champange and women sort of pub, and finally, the homely, traditional pub.

Torian groaned at the pain in his right leg, in his sleep it had jutted out and slammed against something hard, bruising the bone and leaving him reeling. "I need to stop doing that..." It had become routine for his wake up schedule these past few years. Hurt his leg, open his eyes, push the mop off his head, stretch out, pull a muscle and then grumble about age as he slipped out of bed. He didn't remember how the night had ended, a blackout in his memory as usual, just that he was sure he cleaned up Helen's place good and hopefully didn't commit some sort of atrocity before he got back to his house.

Now, the real question was: Is this a work day?

Amber grinned as Gale and Marina walked to the center. "Hey, Marina. Great to see you."
"Where are we, Amber?" Marina asked, and Amber shrugged.
"I haven't been able to get much info on the town." Said Gale. "Despite having excellent wifi service, I don't know how much they keep on the net. Or if they even have a net."
Amber smiled at the woman holding open the door. "Thank you. We'll keep that in mind." Then she muttered only loud enough for Gale and Marina to hear her. "It wouldn't be orderly? Please introduce me to a properly orderly town so I can grow up there."
"Oh, please, Amber," Gale muttered back. "You'd be bored out of your mind in a properly orderly town."
"I guess that's true. Still, we need to keep our talk about the weirdness around here to a minimum. Just in case. One more thing. We have a job. Tell you about it later."
The other two nodded. All that was left to do was wait.

The woman went into a office quickly, before coming back very quickly with a fancy pen and three small piles of paper. Before placing them down on a nearby table, and handing the pens to the three.
“There, I just need you three to sign the papers, and then we’ll give out a certificate as proof of citizenship and then lead you to your house and workplace. Sign quickly, if you want to settle in quicker!”
She then disappeared into the office again, leaving only them and the absent-minded receptionist at the front desk.
Although the papers were quite fancy, the questions were pretty simple, name, skills, preference, etc, and they were a lot of them, from former occupation to personality. The town would then use the papers to decide their role in Belleville, it seems. There was only one thing that was strange: If they tried to lie on the paper, before they knew it, they would have written the truth instead, as if the pen and hand had a mind of it’s own.

At the lane Torian was it, there was a loud bell outside ringing, a noise hated by just about everyone. Yes, the bell was the alarm to work, and it was ringing espically loudly this time, since this was a late bell. Even in the house, Torian could probably feel the spite of the workers outside, or hear it, since there were some were clearly being grouchy about it and yelling at the nearest person they could vent to.
@Kanassa

"They aren't fooling around are they?" Marina asked.
"Apparently not." Said Amber. "Work? Who'd want to hire me?"
"Any of us," Gale corrected softly. "Amber, this could be a very bad idea." Marina nodded, as did Amber.
"Maybe, but we have to blend in. At least until we've found a proper hideout. Besides, we'll find out more if we 'follow the rules.'" The others considered their options. They weren't pretty. Anywhere else they could fly under the radar because they knew how to blend in. But in a small controlled town like this one, people were liable to notice intruders. For now, though it hurt almost physically, they had to play by the rules to keep out of sight. This was going to be their hardest jobs yet. They signed their names, lied about their exact skills for fear of giving who and what exactly they were away, and answered every other question with varying degrees of honesty, depending on what it could give away. Though they were honest enough to get jobs they'd be reasonably good at. They had to hope they'd be housed together. That would be easier than trying to communicate over a distance. But if they had to they'd improvise. They were good at improvisation.

By the time the bell tried to ring a second time, Torian had already plugged wads of paper in his ears as he reached for his clothes. He hopped over to his coat, still sliding on his uniform after a quick shower, passing by a row of picture frames. In every picture frame, there was depicted different memories. A group of friends dancing, an obsessed fan getting a picture with their heroes, a badass shot of somebody doing something cool, all with their faces cut out and replaced with a childish crayon drawing of Torian's face.

"Another day, another slog, another knee-deep experience with the Gremlin Children" He began to pick up any old thing up from the ground and stuff them into the coat. "How much time do I have? I don't wanna be early for the sake of those mouth breathers"

“Oh, done yet? Can I take a look at your sheets so far?”
Out of nowhere, the woman appeared again, she was friendly, but pretty restless. Picking up the papers she glanced over them quickly, before gasping and looking shocked for a moment. The women bit her lip to try not to say anything before handing the papers back to them, with a weird smile.
“Umm, Yeah! Your papers are going wonderfully! Is there any preferences for jobs or houses? Although err..Gale and Marina would probably get chosen for the radio station or the mechanical stores, You, Amber, don’t seem to be predisposed of anything currently.”
@Alissa Ming
———————
There was a knock on the door, and some of the people outside stopped to look. The late officer, AKA the douchebag who yells at someone for being late, was at his door. What was worse? Someone else besides the officer was there.
@Kanassa

"Oh great, the limp-dick moron is here to light a fire under my ass" Torian groaned under his breath, having plenty of reason to hate the guy getting on his bad side because h slipped by a few minutes. Rummaging around for something to use as a drink, Torian picked up the pitch of his voice to sound more feminine, some people became utter dorks around anything female sounding. "Just a minute!"

Amber raised an eyebrow as the woman appeared from nowhere. The gasp and the weird smile creeped her out. They needed to figure out what was going on here. The three looked at each other, silent communication of What is going on here? going on between them. They were wary. Extremely wary. Then Amber said, "I'm sure I could find somewhere to fit in." She said calmly. Gale and Marina thought about where they'd like to work.
"Probably mechanical store." Marina admitted. Gale didn't really have a preference and he shrugged. As for housing preferences...
"If possibly, we'd like to stick together." Amber said. They could, if they had to, work apart, but it would be more awkward. Though they still risked being roomed with someone other than their group.

The woman recorded that on a sheet on a clipboard, when she looked at them again, she was still friendly, but someone like could possibly hear the spite that was heavily covered.
“Right. Well, We’ll get you, Marina into a shop then, and Gale probably into a technological job. There’s too much people with their minds in the medieval times. We’ll put Amber in some interviews and see her special skills.”
Recording all of it down, The woman then looked up and said,
“First of all, The only houses who can fit three new people with different jobs are those old cozy cottages, are you concerned about distance to town? Second, are you down with the papers yet?”

There was a louder knocking, although this time, it seemed more like the person was trying to break the door down.
“BECKETT!! Hurry up! The school is not going to clean itself up, and we have more jobs for you to do!”

...Oh Crap.

That was the voice of a person working in school, more specifically, The Head Of School Life.
@Kanassa

Torian had to fight himself not to spout insults out loud, but it was really damn tempting. Instead he got on with his drink, dragged his feet over to the door and bathed in the knocks for a good few extra seconds. Ah, that aroma of fresh, non-branded morning drink, really tickled the nose as it wafted into the room. You know, it was days like this that Torian wanted to kick back and appreciate life, maybe rad a few books, prank call a few neighbours, cure cancer or something like that and- Oh yeah, the door.

“Oh, hello Sir! I was just getting ready. You really should have knocked!”

Leon woke up particularly late that morning. His body had a lot to recover from. As he looked around he didn't see the other two awake yet. "C'mon, rise and shine you guys!" He wasted no time raiding Zander's fridge, he could pay him back later. After downing some orange juice, he looked over at the book, painfully curious of its contents.

The man was relatively tall, and looked at him intimidating, he was holding some building materials.
“Torian, if you are late anymore, I’ll get the principal to assign you to toilet duty as well.”
He handed the materials over to him, and glared at him.
“Some idiotic students accidentally blew up the science lab, so you need to fix up the side they blew up, alright? Good, get to work.”
He then left in a hurry. What a prick, for being in charge of school life!

Although it was a weekday as always, and nothing seemed to have happened, impressive since Belleville’s citizens are rather gossip-y. The book was a diary, as said before, while it was curious, the cult didn’t seem to be particularly interested in it. The diary...It was thick, and very old. And what was inside it...Was it really worth it to find out? It was a big book, and if they cult wanted to steal it, there must be something curious in it.
