The story that William told her of sneaking into the kitchen only confirmed his higher status. It was difficult not to feel a bit jealous that sneaking into a kitchen to cook was what he got in trouble for. There were some such as herself that got into trouble for stealing food. Besides little ones such as herself as a child were far more likely to be forgiven. Forgiveness was difficult to find even for children since everyone had become weary of the little ones.

No matter how badly Anna wanted to dig into the food with the ravenous pace of a wolf she simply chewed each bite slowly. While William told his story she smiled politely and tried to pay attention though she was more distracted by the fresh fruit. That was a luxury and one she wasn't going to let pass her by. Always better to savor what you had and make it last. For all she knew she could end up back home on her planet with no job. Somehow William must have spent some time watching her eat cause he was inquiring after his cooking maybe being over the top. Looking over at him she shook her head. "No, but I wouldn't say that you suffered so much to make food. Its a nice story and I'm sure it's supposed to be endearing to the public." Anna realized after she'd spoke her mind how rude it could have sounded and she turned a little red. "I appreciate the effort." Even that sounded back handed after what she'd blurted. There wasn't much to say to get herself out of this one so she grinned sheepishly. "Pigeon you still don't understand the life laborers live. We are not easily impressed with good manners and heart warming stories. I'll try for the sake of society and your good face. However if you want a real opinion I'll give it to you. You've earned that much."

Anna admired the outfit in her room before stepping out. Blue was a great color and it was highlighted with strips of white. The white was almost like a dart on the blouse and a thin line on the side of the pant legs. Of course as soon as she stepped out the room turned dark and the hologram came up. There were times that William seemed to love to flaunt his technology.

Why the man seemed to think that he needed it to accomplish simple tasks was beyond her. Was it so difficult to call and make arrangements for her to get a security pass? It was just such a complicated life that he lived and she wasn't as impressed with it as she imagined he thought she should be. Anna almost glared at the machine when it mentioned a date. Those things were connected with their masters and it brought a considerable amount of doubt to her mind now. His little hologram helper wouldn't have even suggested the thought if William hadn't thought of it himself. Perhaps the holograms were more sophisticated now but Anna was still feeling highly irritated by the observation. Smoothing her hands on the suit she subconsciously tried to hide herself after the compliment from the machine.

When they finally came face to face with an officer Anna stared at them. It was rare to meet such personal and she didn't even know how to salute. She was about to wander off when she noticed that a door opened right in front of her. The little woman peered deep into the machine. There was half a suspicion that she might not ever come back out. Despite all the reassurances she couldn't quite shake the mistrust. This was still too good to be true.

Of course there were no steps to get into the machine and the steps were ungodly tall. Anna had to put her knee almost up to her chest just to get her foot on the step. Extending her arms fully she barely reached the handles and hoisted herself into the machinery. All of it was big. If she had to make an assumption now it was that the rich ate more food and got much taller than the average laborer. Already Anna was considered a bit on the short side from her own planet but here she was almost felt like a dwarf.

Quietly sitting in the back she watched and listened to everything being said. This was a time to keep quiet since she'd already learned that Pigeon was revered among his own people and she was going to do better not to speak to him as she normally would. It would be rude and perhaps a bad example for those around him. Besides there was likely protocol of how she was going to address him. The ride almost seemed to be forever since she had to sit in silence and there wasn't much to see out the window this time. They were only driving along a ridiculous road with spaces of nothing. Finally a large arsenal of rusted machinery came into view and her eyes started to flash. This was something have fun with.

Forgetting her manners she tumbled out of the machine as soon as her door opened. Gazing across the horizon of machines she let out a deep breath. "Oooh..." A grin began to spread over her face. "It's wonderful." There were so many machines here that were still useful and she wanted to make something. As a junk yard it was wasteful but she figured that one day if they were like most other formal schools they would let her come here to piece together a machine. An escape pod. It was something she read about. Maybe an old practice but she still wanted to try. "What do I get to do here today?" Almost bouncing with glee she whipped about and gazed into William's eyes. "I could make an escape pod out of this with nothing but what's sitting out here in the junk yard in less than a week." It was perhaps a bit far fetched sounding but it was true.
