  5. It's time for another voting drive! As with previous voting drives we will be sending out voting reminders once a day for the first week of a new voting cycle. This helps to get a good position in the top rankings early on. For people wanting to help out around the site but who can't necessarily contribute in other ways, this is a great way to help out. I can't understate how important voting is. Almost all of our traffic comes from TopRPSites, and when we aren't in the top rankings, we don't draw in new users. So get on in there and vote for Storyteller's Circle!

  6. So as some of you may already know, we're looking to get the website's platform updated to the newest version of Xenforo. The newer platform (Xenforo 2) comes with a lot of solid features and bug fixes from the original Xenforo. To reach this end we have setup a donation campaign for people interested in helping out.

Greetings and welcome to our roleplaying community!

One of our most commonly received questions is regarding account approval, so we have made this guide available to help lead new arrivals along the way to approval. The process is very simple and straightforward, but first I'll outline what limitations are in place for unapproved accounts, and what access is available to unapproved accounts.

All unapproved accounts have access to viewing all of our forums.

All unapproved accounts have access to posting in the following forums:
    • Help Desk
    • Introductions & Departures
    • Main Lobby
    • Creative Forums
    • Writer's Circle
    • Discussions & Debates

All unapproved accounts do not have access to posting in the following forums:
    • General Roleplaying Forums
    • Epic Roleplaying Forums
    • Forum Games

All unapproved accounts do not have access to using private conversations/PMs (both in the forums, and in the chatroom). In the event that an unapproved account needs to contact a staff member, please utilize the help forum for general inquiries. If it's a legitimate private matter, simply post a request in the help forum for a staff member to contact you. Please note what kind of staff member you need to speak with: Administrator, Moderator, or Warden.

All unapproved accounts do not have access to uploading media to the galleries.

Now on to how the approval process works. To get your account approved all new arrivals are required to participate in our introduction forum and must post their own introduction thread, as well as participate in a brief intro period within our community forums. After getting your introduction post up and engaging in a brief period of positive interaction within our community forums (Main Lobby, Writer's Circle, Discussions & Debates, and/or Creative Forums) an administrator will review your account for approval. Note: While everyone is welcome to participate in the live chat, we do not weigh chat activity into the review process.

This process is typically brief and painless and approval can be expected within the first 24 hours for engaging posters who put in a little time and effort into their posts. For less active posters (or spam posting with little substance) the process can span several days or more. You will receive a trophy notifying you once your account is approved.

We understand that this may be seen as an inconvenience to some, but our intent is to create a smooth transition into Storyteller's Circle, and to ensure that new arrivals have taken the time to understand what our website is about before diving in head-first. This process also ensures that we can get a feel for who you are and what you're bringing to our site, as well as for you to get a feel for who we are and what we can offer you. For us community is foremost, so connecting with the community is the first step to joining Storyteller's Circle. People who are patient, friendly, and genuinely interested in becoming a member of our community should have no trouble becoming approved.

Note: Please be aware that all accounts are automatically flagged to be reviewed when they meet the above criteria (asking an Admin to be approved won't speed this process up, so please DO NOT DO THIS). We check all accounts marked for review at a minimum, daily. If you aren't getting approved this isn't because an Admin hasn't noticed you, it's simply that you haven't been active enough for your account to be flagged to the admins for review yet. Conversely if you just spam half a dozen three word posts to trip the system into flagging you for review, when we actually go to review the content and only find spam posts, we likely won't approve the account until it has generated more meaningful content.

If your account isn't being approved, this is generally due to either not posting an introduction thread, not posting anywhere outside of your introduction thread, not posting in any of the above mentioned community forums, and/or posting spammy non-engaging content in an effort to get approved faster. Five thoughtful and engaging posts will get you approved faster than twenty one sentence nonsensical comments that don't give us anything to work with. (Example: Participating in a Writer's Circle discussion to aid a fellow writer, writing out a thoughtful post in the Discussions & Debates forum, and actually participating in your own introduction thread will all be looked upon more positively than non-engaging single sentence reply threads like 'what's your favorite food'. The latter won't be looked upon poorly, but also these kind of posts likely will be skimmed past when reviewing an account, so they won't be very likely to help either).

Also note that account reviews don't happen immediately. So don't get concerned if you churn out a bunch of really engaging posts throughout our community forums, and then don't get approved for a few hours. If your account is flagged for review at 3am, it will generally be reviewed first thing in the morning when an admin wakes up. If your account is flagged for review at 2pm, it will generally be reviewed when an admin gets off work later in the evening.
