Gods Among Men Alexandria

An independent city located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Alexandria is but a stone's throw away from Washington D.C. and Arlington. It is often regarded as suburb of the Capital, but stands on it's own due to it's rich history, as well as being home to professionals working in the U.S. Military, federal civil service, and the many private companies contracted to the federal government.

"Out." Jankowski said to his team, the SUV they were escorting Iry'oz in coming to a sudden stop at an intersection.

"Five minutes, Major." One of the female members said, disappearing soon after into a crowd with the others. They were a security detail.

They were not meant to be seen or heard, not until Iry needed them. Hopefully she wouldn't need them.

"Once more around the block and then to the apartment." Jankowski told the driver, the vehicle beginning to move again.

The city of Alexandria was busy, even Jankowski found himself watching as it went by his window.

"You have holidays on Tamaran?" He asked Iry, "You should see Alexandria when things like Independence Day roll around."

"We have Blorthog," said Iry'oz. "A holiday of friendship."

The alien woman was also gazing out of the window. The more they drove, the stranger this place became. The leaves on the trees were either lush or naked with small buds on the branches.

"What is this Independence Day?" she asked Jankowski.

"Blorthog? A friendship holiday sounds like something we need around here these days." Jankowski said to the alien.

"Independence Day is a holiday here, in America, that celebrates the American people finally earning their freedom from a tyrannical empire." The man explained to Iry'oz.

The SUV came to a stop again, this time in front of an apartment building.

"We're here. The place you'll be resting your head."

"This planet has a lot of history, then. Perhaps I shall learn more soon," she told Jankowski.

As they rolled up to the apartment building, Iry'oz gazed solemnly. She pushed the door gently before looking at her agents curiously. She didn't know how to open it.

"It's a pull door." Jankowski said as he climbed out of the SUV, clearly amused by the woman. "It happens to the best of us." He told her.

"Others you can push. And a lot harder than that if you want them to actually open."

Jankowski moved to open the door for Iry'oz, "Up three flights, second door on your left." The Justice League operative told her.

"We do not have such things in Tamaran," Iry'oz informed him. She slipped out of the car and lifted her hand in a wave. "This is goodbye for now?" she asked Jankowski.

"I need to show you around first, and then I need to go meet with someone. I just have to grab some things before I head in." Jankowski told Iry'oz.

The driver turned up the vehicle's radio, something catching his ear.

"We got word that the Belle Monaco, the hotel downtown, was seized by terrorists calling themselves the Sons of Liberty." A radio host said, "Several police officers were wounded or killed by the group, who claim that their goal is to liberate everyone, but metahumans and aliens especially, from the US government."

"We'll try to keep you updated as the story unfolds."

Jankowski and the driver looked at each other, "Call the League." Jankowski ordered, "Iry, you should head inside."

"Has something happened?" she asked him, stepping forward. "What is it? Is it something bad?"

"Nothing you need to worry about." Jankowski assured the Tamaranean, "The Justice League and the local police can handle it." He said.

"The Flash is in DC, he's heading there." The driver said to Jankowski, "Should we assist?"

For now, Iry'oz decided to leave it. She turned around and left with a wave, heading for her apartment.

Though it took her a moment to find the apartment, though a few mistakes and a bit of guidance, she came to her room. When she did, she was even more confused. Nothing inside this room was similar to her homeland's buildings.

It would be a long night, one that ended with the young Tamaranian passed out on the floor of her bedroom with her legs propped up on the bed. Before she fell asleep, however, thoughts of the day's events buzzed through her mind. It was so much to take all at once.

A new home filled with people who didn't want her there. A planet of people who were so incredibly unlike her, people who were afraid of her. She could clearly envision the face of the man who had thrown the foreign object at her face earlier that day. She had never seen such fear in the face of an assailant before, but such acts were foreign to her. None started a fight they weren't ready to finish.

Then, to think that she might not be welcome here at all? To the place she sought so desperately?

Well, the thought was exhausting, and Iry'Oz soon found them drowned out by the beckoning silence of sleep.

"I understand, but I have a job to do." Jankowski said into his cellphone as he paced the hallway outside of Iry's apartment.

"I can try to meet with you later once I know it's safe, once I know that we weren't followed by any of those nuts outside of the Hall." He continued, "The diner's perfect, see you then." Jankowski said, slipping his phone away.

He approached a window at the end of the hall, peeking out to get a look at the street. There were few suspicious vehicles, but Jankowski thought every vehicle was suspicious.

In a world with shapeshifters, telepaths, and people who could become invisible, one had to be a little cautious.
