DISCORD

"He was one of those creatures who are just simmering there all the time with a silly sort of wickedness. Miserable devils who have no business living at all."---Joseph Conrad.
heaven_s_peak_by_moose23.jpg

(Will be removed per artists request.)

In the beginning, the universe was void and without shape; but from the infinite darkness came a light, and the heavens cracked, breathing life into man and all of the creatures below. Terrestria is a planet much like our own but plagued by generations of war and decadence. No one really knows what happened or why. Whether it was man who lost faith in the gods, or the gods who lost faith in them, but the world was torn apart and divided. For a time, a balance existed, with the Great Mother, the goddess, Aditi, watching over her children with intrigue and delight. Yet, every good story has its daemons. He has gone by many names throughout the course of history, such as Lucifer, Satan, or Mephistopheles, but the Angel of Darkness has waited patiently to bear witness to the fall of man.

It has been said that in the time before time, Aditi and the Prince of Darkness ushered in the era of man together. Born as two halves to a necessary whole, they shepherded a world at peace with itself, governing over a time of prosperity. However, like all good things, it wasn’t meant to last. No one quite knows what led to the wars that followed, but at the center of it was the fight for man’s heart. Aditi saw hope and compassion in a race forged in their image, while Lucifer saw only hate and greed. In a gambit, he believed he could prove man was just as foul as he was, which is why he was cast from a Heaven divided. With much of his power stripped, he was still a force to be reckoned with, and so cast a shadow over the land, rolling the dice and giving man a not so obvious choice.

Meddling over the centuries as he saw fit, he gave birth to all manner of dark creatures and gave man untold power with the hope of watching them destroy themselves. In a world of endless possibility and magic, a city was crafted, one plagued with lawless corruption. Some believe Aditi showed her hand, while others simply believe the universe chose for itself, but the Wardens rose from the depths of man, with power enough to overthrow maybe even the gods themselves. Cleansing the city, they laid claim to what has been since dubbed for the last eight hundred years, The Pride of Terrestria, New Eden, the last supposed paradise which was built on Hope. But it wasn't long before another "paradise" had rose above the ashes of Despair: The City of the Damned, Abaddon.

The Father of Lies, however, has since vanished, leaving his disciples to stir the unrest. Aditi has long withdrawn from the affairs of man, believing them strong enough to find faith with no guide. New Eden has begun exploring a new path, one withdrawn from the gods where they can craft their own destiny. And on the outskirts, Abaddon is said to be following in the footsteps of the gods, with intentions to reclaim New Eden and establish a new world order. In the midst of man, angels and daemons flourish, trying to steer mankind towards their own versions of right and wrong. Which side will you choose in a world where Heaven and Hell collide?

Story: The Basics

(Will be removed per artists request.)
Now that you have read the preface, basically, this story revolves around two gods who were solely responsible for creation (at least where Terrestria is concerned). You can think of this pairing as yin and yang because they were polar opposites, yet it was their job to maintain some sort of balance in the world. Yet, this balance wasn’t meant to last, because regardless of the rumors and stories that circulate, the two didn’t get along and for whatever reason, Lucifer was cast down to Terrestria. One important thing to keep in mind here is that nobody really knows his real name, but he is revered as Satan himself and goes by many titles and aliases at this point in time. While he is still an extremely powerful figure, you could consider him more of a demigod than a god presently.

No one really knows what his motivations are, but he began doing what he does best, which was to manipulate the masses before he just completely disappeared. Aditi, on the other hand, hoping that somehow man could fight temptation on their own, followed suit. With the appearance of the Wardens rather suddenly and this realization that man wasn’t as weak as everyone first thought, New Eden was formed once they discovered Aditi’s Plume (an ancient, indestructible artifact of unknown power and/or origin). Similarly, some years later, Abaddon was also founded by The Envoys who are an order of daemons that are practically Satan’s biggest ally and advocate. This city came about after the discovery of the Daemon’s Cradle, an artifact very similar to Aditi’s Plume.

These two cities are in constant conflict with one another on all levels. And this is really the story of that conflict, a religious war which is meant to challenge the differences between not only right versus wrong, but good versus evil (which isn't always painted in black and white). There is no right answer to which side you choose, but keep in mind that this world is sometimes very dark and gritty. You will be required to forge your own path forward, free to venture into a world with almost endless possibility. This will be a world which will have a plot of your choosing, and you’ll be the only one to chart your own destiny!

Aditi's Plume

<><><><><><><>

Named after the Goddess Aditi, this gemstone is an ancient artifact in the form of a crystal. Its sister jewel is Daemon's Cradle. Presently it resides in a temple in New Eden and is heavily guarded and protected by the Wardens. Much like the Goddess herself, it is a rather prepossessing beauty to behold, emitting a faint glow of light in the dark; as if suggesting that shadow cannot quell the luster of dawn. Another common name for the gemstone is "Hope".

Daemon's Cradle

<><><><><><><>
Kept locked securely away in the city of Abaddon where few know of its location, Daemon's Cradle is the second half of an artifact that supposedly houses great and unprecedented power. It is said that the Devil treasures this jewel greatly – more so than his own life, even – but this could be nothing more than a rumor. As mentioned before, it is the other part to Aditi's Plume. Despite the name, it does not look much like a cradle, but some theorize that it is meant to hint at the framework and stability of the daemonic society being based around and held together by a "cradle" of sorts. Another common name for this gemstone is "Despair".

Setting: General Expectations

Thus far, there is no strict model to follow. Though, there are some things to take into consideration. In a world of magic, there is little use for technological advancement; because of this, you could say that the foundation of the setting is rooted in medieval times. While weapons such as swords, maces, and bows are common, as it stands, there was never a need for siege weaponry in light of what was just mentioned. What this world does have is leaps in engineering and architecture. They still use fire to light the way and stay warm, but they have basic things we take for granted today like rudimentary plumbing. Now, while as stated this is considered to be slightly medieval, I will be flexible about a broad range of topics, whether it be the variety of available food or anything else for that matter. All you have to do is ask. And as a rule of thumb, if you are unsure, shoot one of the GM’s a message and we’ll be glad to get back to you as soon as humanly possible.

I don’t imagine money should be much of an issue because New Eden is essentially a Marxist society. They provide their citizens everything they need to live a simple life and give each of them a set income for luxuries while providing for their essentials. There isn't any real form of social class, instead, everyone just contributes based on whatever trade they are skilled in. Abaddon, on the other hand, has social class but, instead of money, they deal in goods and barter - with gold, silver, and copper being critical traded commodities. In regard to the aforementioned, both directory pages for New Eden and Abaddon now include currency information. Both cities do have some form of government and while political conflict will come into play, I don’t want government structure to be a focus or chief concern until such a time when we as GM’s introduce it ourselves (which you can bet on happening at some point). Hopefully, this covers a layman's explanation of expectations. If not, feel free to let me know so I can expand on this further if need be. But try to keep in mind that this wasn’t a world meant to be born overnight. One of the goals here was to create a world in which all of you as players could build upon and populate. You can find more details about available locations below.

Magic: Powers & Abilities Explained

the_darkest_of_our_days_by_huussii_daafns8_png.jpg

(Will be removed per artists request.)
This particular section is going to take people by surprise. There isn’t going to be any clearly defined limits on capability. However, there are some things to keep in mind. For starters, there are two groups in particular which are going to be stronger than your average player (The Envoys & The Ethereal). Obviously, because of this, they will be played by the GM’s. The Wardens, while playable, are also quite powerful, especially a Warden Grandmaster who is arguably on par with the aforementioned two groups and also played by the GM's. We will NOT be accepting requests to play these characters. Alternatively, you have both Aditi and Lucifer, which as it stands are not in play, and will not be playable – so we will NOT be accepting requests. No player is permitted to play either a god or demigod – or a child of. Nonetheless, you still have plenty of options. Please note that the above, while powerful, are still killable under the right circumstances. Exceptions can also always be made at a GM's discretion.

Some basic rules to follow are that I would like every character to choose some sort of specialization. And PLEASE, don’t limit yourself to just abilities revolving around some sort of element. Think outside the box. But, if you get lost, here is a great site that should give you plenty of ideas. The only real thing I ask is to use common sense. I really want you to balance your character in terms of ensuring that their most powerful abilities have drawbacks. Every character needs to have a clearly exploitable weakness, whether that be a personality flaw or something of a more physical nature. This roleplay was meant to be one where gods clash, so, everyone is allowed to be overpowered to some degree, which is why I feel I can get away with this when everyone is on a level playing field. Think big! Another note to add is that this roleplay is not meant to be competitive. I expect fights to be collaborative and story driven.

BEFORE creating your character, you MUST come to a GM and explain your ideas first. While you are free to talk about your biography or race, what is critically important is your abilities. We want to know their limits, weaknesses, etc. This is information that doesn’t necessarily need to all be available in a character sheet, but we as GM’s have a right to know what your character will be ultimately capable of. You can expect some form of constructive criticism from us or a request to make changes. We might even give you some ideas on how to go about doing that.

Races: Creative Freedom & Established

the_atonement_by_noah_kh.jpg

(Will be removed per artists request.)
For reference, I would look at the above sections. The same general rules apply in that just about anything goes. One thing I do want to add is that each race introduced must be humanoid. Furthermore, there will be no dragons or other comparable species allowed as playable characters. The kinds of things that will be permitted are vampires, lycanthropes, fairies, orcs, elves, etc. I'd ultimately like to avoid player created races, but I won't completely rule them out just yet. With this in mind, below are just some of the key races which are vitally important to the plot. Just as with magic, please run your ideas by the GM’s. In the case we have a lot of interest for a particular race, users are free to create group pages pending GM approval.

Angels

<><><><><><><>
Angels are celestial creatures, and the rulers of the sky thanks to their most distinctive and prideful attribute: An enormous pair of wings made of feathers and light. As beautiful as they are powerful, their wings can appear as any natural array of colors. As creations of Aditi, they were inclined towards acting on behalf of man’s best interest, and were created in part to guide those whose faith and hope had started to dissipate. But as Aditi begun to abandon them, many have turned to the other side or simply developed different opinions and begun thinking for themselves. It isn’t so rare to find an angel who prefers to blend in as a human or has turned to the daemons side.

Daemons

<><><><><><><>
Over a thousand years ago, when Lucifer fell from Heaven, many angels joined him, turning their backs on Aditi's paradise. These deserters would come to be known as "Daemons", followers of the Devil. Despite the implications of their name, daemons are not inherently evil. Their personalities and views on morality can vary greatly. There are very few race specifics for the daemons, but keep in mind that only The Envoys have wings. Daemons are able to make deals with others, and upon completion of that deal, reap their soul as a reward. Albeit there are many types of elemental powers they can inherit, the most common ones seem to be of and related to flame and shadow. They can have any eye color, hair color, skin color, etc. To be a daemon, one must either have fallen from Heaven or been born between two daemon parents. The latter is far more common. Vampires, succubus/incubus, and lycanthropes are just three types of the many sub-species' to the race.

Humans

<><><><><><><>
Resilient, diplomatic, and cool-headed; the humans are a race of natural-born thinkers and developers. Unlike your typical ordinary humans, the humans in Terrestria are all born with their own magical capabilities, much like every other race. These can range from something small and less powerful, like growing crops – to something much more deadly, like mastering the entire element of nature. Once thought to be the weakest and most inferior race, they've since proved their strength, with a good bunch of them currently leading The Wardens in New Eden. Although they are not as prominent in Abaddon they can still be found there as well, with many choosing to be performers and the like. There are no restrictions on hair color, eye color, or any of that. It doesn't have to be "natural". However, please do refrain from giving them characteristics that other already existing races would have. (E.g. wings, horns, fangs, animal ears... You get the point.) Many humans like to invent and create, while some focus more solely on developing their innate magical powers. It's up to them to choose their own path in life – whether it be in New Eden, Abaddon, or even Oblitus.

Locations: The Trifecta

landscape_by_hughebdy_d4ob7k9.jpg

(Will be removed per artists request.)
There really isn’t much to be said here. The three available locations are listed below. While civilized society mainly exists in New Eden and Abaddon, it isn’t entirely impossible that small pockets of people live in Oblitus. Oblitus main purpose was to cover anything that couldn’t be included in the two main cities. There will NOT be any requests permitted for the creation of other cities. If you do happen to have an idea for a specific location within one of the choices below however, there is a thread in the OOC to request such a thing.

New Eden
Submissions Open!
<><><><><><><>

New Eden is thought to be the last bastion of the mortal races. Founded approximately 800 years ago, and currently in possession of Aditi's Plume, the metropolis has not faced any significant threat which could compare to their own military might. The city is built extravagantly in an age of mankind's resurgence from the devastation that consumed them, one millennium ago. The primary forces behind the city and absent royal family are the Wardens, which are a militia/police force that is spread throughout the city and oversees to the general well-being and progression of the city, as well as protects the citizens of New Eden. Each family has their own beliefs and values, but despite these differences, the society upholds a brotherly kinship among their fellow citizens, as well as a form of Marxist communism. As a result, the city remains united and harmonious in Pax Eden, the eight century long period of peace enforced by the city and its forces. During these times, New Eden flourishes as the pinnacle of innovation and advancement.

Abaddon
Submissions Open. Need gladiators and Aditi cult members!
<><><><><><><>

With its foundations tracing back to about 634 years ago, Abaddon is a city of refuge and free-will for travelers far and wide. It houses the important artifact that is the other half to Aditi's Plume, Daemon's Cradle; and is led (and founded) by the three daemon lords known to the people as The Envoys. The City of the Damned was built on the ideology that only the strongest can come out on top. Those who cannot fend for themselves get stuck at the bottom of the social hierarchy, left as poor beggars or working minimum-wage jobs to get by. Abaddon is exceptionally diverse in its races – while daemons and vampires make up the majority of the nobility, there are many other types of people living comfortably, such as lycanthropes, fairies, orcs, humans, etc. The place is all about the arts and is much more carefree than New Eden, with a general fondness for all kinds of artists and street performers. But, on the other hand, there is a rather high crime rate, and a smaller population. There are slave markets that primarily sell humans to noble vampires, an abundance of drugs/narcotics trafficking, and numerous incidents of torture, murder, rape and fights happening outside of public view. It's important to note that the city itself isn't a bad place, and that you aren't required to be a follower of Lucifer or an evil daemon to live there. As long as you aren't an Ethereal or a Warden (with exceptions), then its gates are open to all.

Oblitus "Oblivion"
Submissions Open!
<><><><><><><>

Oblitus, otherwise known as Oblivion, is a vast expanse of wilderness surrounding the cities of Abaddon and New Eden. Within the varieties of terrains of these lands, feral animals and to a lesser extent, creatures, prowl through the vegetation and ruins of the old civilizations, lost in the most destructive war to have ever occurred on Terrestria, which left the mortal races devastated. Civilized humanoids are few and far between in the minuscule amount of villages spread throughout the lands, all of which live a peaceful subsistence lifestyle as they fight for survival against the dangers of the wild. There is little development throughout the known regions of Oblitus, with extreme environments preventing the most powerful of civilizations from harnessing its resources and constructing within it. As such, there are very few travelers that dare to travel through due to the exaggerated and an unknown number of people to have been lost in the embrace of the land. The forests cover the land, the plains stretch across, the rivers branch out upon them, the mountains peek through the clouds. There is little to not sight when one travels into Oblitus.

Groups: Factions & Allegiances

dark_army_by_chevsy_d4pme3c.jpg

(Will be removed per artists request.)

This is another section that is really self-explanatory. Below are the three main groups relevant to the story. If you’d like to create your own group, please send one of the GM’s a message. Each group will require at least three characters, preferably played by different users (exceptions can be made).

The Envoys
Submissions Closed.
<><><><><><><>

Formally named "The Diabolical Order", but dubbed "The Envoys" by the people of Abaddon and beyond, these three Daemon Lords lead The City of the Damned and keep watch over Daemon's Cradle. Hence their leadership, all three of them are remarkably talented and extremely powerful. They are the Devil's most trusted henchmen, so to speak. Like their Lord, they fell from Heaven long ago, shadowing him and answering to his every beck and call. They are his closest allies. But over time the years have changed them, especially once they started searching for the Daemon's Cradle. Eventually, they did find it, but Satan has been missing ever since, having left them little in terms of a goodbye. Nonetheless, The Envoys built up the city of Abaddon and led it in his name, urging its people to put their faith in the Prince of Darkness... But with one of The Envoys missing, the other two seem to have been left with little care for the city's residents. Are they still loyal to their Lord, or are there ulterior motives behind their actions?
This remains to be seen.

The Ethereal
Submissions Closed.
<><><><><><><>
A group of three archangels left in charge by Aditi herself who are committed to guiding mankind towards the light, and ensure they remain there. With four divine wings at their backs, many consider them weak, but in truth, they would make even the gods tremble if they were to exercise the full extent of their power. They aren't leaders, but pillars; their place isn't ruling the people, but living amongst them. Helping them believe and helping them to not only survive, but prosper. Even though they inspire righteousness, they aren't necessarily hostile or disapproving of daemons, but instead, welcome them into the light. Or at least, that's how things used to be. They were once dedicated to the people in body and soul, sickness and in health until death do them part; but lately, they are beginning to find it more difficult to continue believing in their cause.

The Wardens
<><><><><><><>
No one quite knows of their origins, or how they rose to prominence, but stories are told that in a world without order, man was tasked with balancing the scales. It is said that each Warden has the power of a thousand men, and when united, that no force on Terrestria would be strong enough to stop them. Originally they were holy knights, warriors who revered the Great Mother, Aditi. Founding the city of New Eden, they are its humble servant, its guardian in its darkest hour. Each Warden is as unique as the next, with each holding great power in their own right. They each have their own specialty and areas of expertise, and while they have Grandmasters who leads them all, there are various houses spread out across New Eden, charged with watching over a specific district. While they have no formal ranks, they live by their reputations, with each Warden bearing a distinct title that is normally granted to them by their peers. One of the current Grandmasters for example goes by the title “The Blue-Eyed Devil”. Most Wardens are human, but they have recently begun allowing other races to join them under special circumstances. Further, and most recently, a divide has formed between them as to whether they should continue paying homage to Aditi or become masters of their own fate.

The Underground Society has been in business for more than one hundred years. Some imperators died of old age, others poisoned, but whenever a new imperator stepped up, they were never the same as the last one. The Underground Society has triumphed for many years, but their mark of death has yet to leave a scratch on New Eden. Oppression continues to be a problem and despite underground business being successful, people are still unhappy. A man named Nasaios eventually stepped in to fill that gap, after witnessing the anti-religion acts of Edward Toorn and the devastating aftermath. His leadership, however, soon came to a shocking end and Minerva rose from the ashes to stand by as the new imperator of the underground to supposedly finish what both men have started.
