It has been many, many years since the world has last seen The Avatar born. The cycle ended with the element of Air, which is the element of freedom when an Avatar by the name of Amaya passed away under unknown circumstances and many people said that she was too young. When she died, benders became much harder to find. During both Aang's and Korra's respective reign as The Avatar, you couldn't go anywhere without bumping into someone who was a bender. The world used to have an abundance of benders but now, it seems as if they all have vanished.
Let's fast forward to one hundred years after Avatar Aang triggered the Avatar State that froze him inside of a glacier, only to be found by Sokka and Katara. It's even a few years after Korra was conceived and her reign as Avatar ended. The new avatar state laid within a water-bending host, who was in hiding for quite some time and has just now decided to make his presence felt because of the new threat that was currently uprising within the nations.
With the new threat terrorizing literally everyone that got in their way, no one could stop them. Not the King of the Earth Kingdom, the Chiefs of the Water Tribe, and not even the Fire Lord. This new threat is a group of chi blockers, who was around whenever Korra was Avatar but after hearing that there was no Avatar for quite some time, they rose back up and are still lead by an unknown assailant. This unknown leader of the chi blockers mastered the ancient and forgotten art, which is to remove the bending from all benders. They're all currently hellbent on destroying the Avatar State forever and putting an ultimate end to all benders within the four nations.
Avatar Lian Shu is the only person who can take this new group down but he will not be able to do it alone. Since coming out of hiding, Lian Shu now knows the destiny that has been placed upon him. He must go from nation to nation to retrain himself and learn the elements with their respective masters. He hopes that things will fall right back into place whenever this threat is eliminated and the nations can once again live in peace as they did before.
