Bad Work Experiences

We've all had some bad work experiences sadly. Especially if you work in the food or retail industries. The customer is never right in my opinion -_- Screw who came up with that saying!

I worked at Hardee's/Carl's Jr from April 2017 to April 2018. I decided to quit that place because of the shitty hours I was getting and it was turning into a total clusterfuck due to new and shitty management. My last day just had to be a shitstorm too. The only cook we had on the clock that day passed out in the parking lot and had be taken away via ambulance. As a result, we were horribly understaffed and chaos ensued. But thankfully reinforcements arrived and saved the day :D

I currently work at Applebee's as a Hostess and have been working there since February 2018. It's pretty cool for the most part but Good Lord have I dealt with shitty customers and co-workers!

One of the servers got punched in the face, we've had shitty servers who didn't last long luckily, there was an incident where a party of six was talking shit about me and one of the managers while saying homophobic slurs towards me, customers absolutely love being disgusting pigs and making huge messes while leaving no damn tips, and don't even get me started on the drunks that we get sometimes.

What are some bad experiences you've had on your job? Whether it's with customers, employees, or management?

My very first day of working at Sonic I clocked in too early and got yelled at. ;^;

Damn that sucks :( I forgot to clock in at work last night XD I got laughed at though

Hehe, my work isn't too mean tho. A few days ago I ended up crying because I was late and I thought I was gonna get my ass chewed out or possibly fired by the manager but instead she hugged me and then literally covered me in angry bird stickers a few minutes later.

And yesterday she handed a bunch of us cups with pickle juice in the bottom and said we were taking 'pickle shots' so we had to drink it fast as we could. Haha it burnt worse than whiskey and hurt my chest but it was funny. X3

Awwww how cute :) Most managers won't fire you for being late. They're pretty understanding ^_^

That sounds a little painful O_O And gross!

so i was doing electrical demo in a building and i was collecting wire from the ground and my boss was dropping it from the lift. i looked up because i had moved all the wire on the ground, and a length of wire landed right next to my eye, like tear duct adjacent and i thought i was about to lose my eye

I saw this thread and was hesitant about posting in it. Mainly because I absolutely love my job for the most part. Co workers are nice and everybody appreciates eachother and gets along great. There's occasionally some complaints I overhear but I tend to do my best and keep an optimistic outlook. It helps the day go by faster and it's a lot healthier that way than just being negative and grumpy all throughout the shift.

But one complaint I've had is that a couple weeks back, a co worker of mine tried doing me a favor and emptied out the cans before I had a chance to/clocked in. The thought was nice but in doing so he put in small bags in the two large cans outside. Which resulted in an awful mess to say the least. I try to take it out and fix it but the garbage is overflowing the can and so I gotta roll up my sleeves and thrust my hands into the garbage and bring it out bit by bit. Not the worst experience but didn't much care for people staring at me as I did it in broad daylight or the rotten milk/ice cream I spilled on my shoes and shorts(which I haven't been able to clean out of the resulting stains)

Still, it was an honest mistake and so I simply told my managers 'don't yell at him/don't be too harsh. Just give a reminder to only put medium/large bags in the front cans.' But I was upset for the rest of that particular shift.

A deaf woman pulled me away from the counter at arby's during the lunch rush to complain that she couldn't find a type of soda we didn't even carry, huge waste of my time :(

// I remember it very clearly... That evil, vile cylinder of crusted, wasted goodness...

I slipped on the same tater tot like 6 times. ;_____;

For me it was my summer job this year. I was working as a waitress (my first time ever doing that job, and quite possibly the last) and my boss was a damn witch. Not the nice kind either. I had to stay overtime almost every day - while my boss just sat around with her friends even though she was supposed to be working - and she wouldn't let me have a day off for a relative's funeral or later on a wedding. She almost fired my co-worker because he got sick leave for two days from the doctor. Would not take any kind of criticism and would get very angry at you if you ever talked back. I quit there almost 2 months ago and she still hasn't given me my job certificate. Hard to complain about it to anyone either when said boss is also the owner of the restaurant.

Honestly, here the best thing about work were the customers. Even if I was having a shitty day, there would be one or two nice customers that would make my day. Like I still remember these two old british ladies who were such sweethearts, they were chatting about this and that to me and were complimenting my English and just overall were adorable.

My last job was working for an HVAC distributor/wholesaler. Being a wholesaler, you'd think we only dealt with businesses but being in the trade industry meant we also dealt with individual contractors (or 'one-man-vans' as I like to call them). Our return policy is pretty strict and for good reasons. If somebody buys a flame sensor from us and they break it during installation (which is easy to do, especially for the older models) then that's not really on us and we shouldn't have to take a loss because you don't know how to be careful with a part that is known for its fragility. Because of this, I would show it to the customer before they walked out the door so that they couldn't claim it was broken when they opened it (which is also very possible, thus why I check).

I had a customer accuse me of racism because I refused to refund him for a broken flame sensor and also called him out on his lie when he said that it was already broken. I sold him the part and went about my usual routine of opening the product and showing it to them before they walked out the door. I made it a habit to do that with flame sensors and fan blades as they seemed to be the most frequently damaged items on our end. So this guy threw a flaming bitch fit until my manager escorted him outside. The thing really gets me is that this is like a twelve dollar part and if he had just spent a couple dollars more as I always suggest, he could have gotten the more durable version that you could straight drop on concrete and still have a good chance of it not breaking.

The customer is NOT always right. In fact, it is my experience that they are more often wrong. I'm also of the mind that there are some customers who are expendable. I feel like a company should focus more on how they treat their employees and if they do a good job of that then their employees will make it a point to take care of their customers. As a business owner, I would rather lose the business of a snotty customer than to lose the loyalty of a dedicated employee. But when it comes to customer service, I think Tom Segura said it best. Some people suck.
