Blood Dragon

She arches a brow then shakes her head. "I can walk." She says and keeps going. There was that pride again. It was impossible to completely let go of it.

Ignoring the complaints of her own body, she kept going. Her dragon half had been rather quiet as of late but then again Dagger was glad for the dragon to be leaving her alone at the moment.

Scipio sighs and keeps walking.

"You will get sore soon, we should just rest." He says, understanding her prideful nature. He stopped next to a creek, and sat on the bank.

Dagger shakes her head. "I can manage." When he ignored her words though and sat down anyways, she sighs and sits down as well. A grimace leaving her from the movement.

"You don't need to be so protective of your pride. We all have our limits, and my feet were getting sore as well."

He dips his face into the water and drinks from the creek, it felt refreshing after the walk.

She smiles faintly to him. "Pride seems to be all I have left at times these says." She shrugs a little then looks around then to the water. She leans down gently and gets a fresh drink. It was fresh and good water. That was always good.

Scipio nods, and lays down on the grass.

"We will get the issues taken care of in due time. Just unwind for a while." He says, closing his eyes and listening to the leaves rustle.

Issues? That was a long list to even consider. She shakes her head a bit but doesn't say anything as she sits there quietly. She watches the water of the creek as it flowed by.

After resting for a while, Scipio got back to his feet. They had far to travel if they wanted to survive.

"Keep a sharp eye for bandits. Luckily we are out of the Imperial area of influence, or else their crossbows would render us helpless."

Moving to her feet as well, she nodded at his words. "It they get greedy enough they may try."

Looking around a moment then she starts walking after him, picking her footing carefully.

It was about ten minutes of walking before Scipio sensed presence of people. His pace and expression didn't change, but he knew he was being flanked by at least two bandits.

Trees and bushes were thick beside the path, so they were well hidden. Scipio knew the movement patterns of bandit ambushes, and they would pop out in front of them when they were at least five feet ahead. Scipio waits patiently, with his hand resting on the handle of his sheathed blade.

"What a lovely night it is, if only there was some rain..." Scipio says out of small talk. He knew exactly where they were, and was counting down in his mind.

Scipio walks casually along the path, whilst three bulky men jumped into the path. Two of them wielded woodcutting axes, while the third had a short sword.

Scipio draws his sword and walks towards them. The men swing at him, but their blows are easily dodged. They have absolutely no finesse, they have no form at all.

One of them swings the ax, but it hits the ground and leaves them vulnerable. Scipio lifts his sword and decapitates the bandit. The others are enraged at him now, and one manages to slice into his forearm with a short sword.

"You.... bastards of a peasant whore..." Scipio says as his arm drips with blood. He severs the bandits arm with a quick upper-slice. He still had one unwounded enemy, and he knew he left himself open for a blow to the gut. He manages to recover in time to block the ax head, but the force of the ax forced the wide side of the blade to bludgeon his gut instead.

Heaving, he loses his grip on the sword from the loss of air he suffered.

Dagger's eyes darken as the bandits revealed themselves. Their scent was harsh to her nose and she makes a face. It was a curious thing to watch Scipio tend to the first two men. They were simple bandits and that much was clear as she watched their fighting style. Foolish.

As soon as the third went for Scipio, she moved. Drawing her dagger, she stepped forward. The blade glistened for a moment as she brought the weapon up in a steady motion. Her movement quiet as the blade found it's way home into the third bandit's neck. Moving her hand in a sharp movement, sending the blade the rest of the way through the neck.

She looks to Scipio as the body of the bandit fell to the ground with a wet thud as it's blood flowed from it. "Are you alright?" She asks curiously.

Scipio gasps for a couple more minutes, unable to speak. Finally he recovers from the bludgeoning, "I am... just fine." He says in a pained voice, his breathing was still not consistent.

Barely capable of standing up, he decides to stay grounded and search the bandits. With any luck, they would have more information on his bounty. Perhaps even some valuable equipment.

Dagger watched him curiously and arched a brow at his answer. He would be alright it seemed but she was sure he was still hurting in some fashion from the blow he took to the gut. She didn't push the issue though and simply watched as he began to search the bodies of the men on the ground.

Moving her hand, she removed the blood from her dagger and then sheathed the weapon once more. She glances around a little before returning her eyes to him and the bodies. There weren't that many of them but it made her wonder if there would be more trouble soon. They weren't a large group, more like a scouting group if anything. She could hope though that she was wrong.

Scipio finds little of importance besides meager change and another bounty notice. Managing to get to his feet, he walks forward past the bodies. They still had much to do.

"Keep walking. We have much more land to cover." He says in a more serious tone than usual. The ambush proved they were in immediate danger. He decides to pull his scarf over his face, both due to the cold and to hide his identity.

She watches him carefully before she nods in agreement. "Alright." Stepping around the bodies, she walks after him, following along quietly. Her mind was else where though. The men that had attacked them. Something about them had been familiar but she wasn't sure. Their scent had been familiar.

Her eyes flicker a little and she tilts her head as Blood stirs. It would seem the dragon agreed with her about the hunters being familiar. Then again they all were alike. Foolish humans that were constantly doing stupid things. In all her years of life nothing had changed with the humans but Scipio was right. There was much land for them to cover.

They managed to walk another hour without trouble. The sky started to fill with dark grey clouds, a storm was brewing. Spotting a small cave with a slight elevation from the ground, he heads toward it.

"We won't last long in a storm. We need our rest if we want to cover the rest of the distance." Scipio says to Dagger, his voice on the border of apathy.

Strangely enough she had enjoyed the silence as they walked. It allowed her to think and communicate with Blood. The dragon was becoming restless and didn't like walking but Dagger ignored the dragon's complaints as they went.

When Scipio broke the silence with his words, she nods a bit at his words. "Agreed." She follows him to the cave. Once inside, she got a small fire going, letting it warm the cave up and allow for them to be safe from the chill of the storm.

Her eyes flicker slightly and she looks to him. "Are you alright?" She asks curiously as she sits by the fire.

Scipio stares emptily at the fire, his face void of any blatant emotion.

"I said that I am fine." He says after a minute of silence. His mind was numbed, although he vividly remembered his wife. She was the only thing he cared about, his only reason to live. He didn't have her anymore, and he was being hunted. It was a kick to his teeth that he worked so hard just to be hunted by ragged barbarians.

Taking a deep breath, he wiped the thoughts away and focused on the fire. This was his life now.

His voice told her everything. Well not everything but a lot more than the silence had. She nods a bit at his answer. "Alright then" She says to him and doesn't push the issue anymore. It would be a useless thing to do anyways.

Her eyes flicker slightly again and she looks away from him. Moving to her feet, she walks towards the opening of the cave and leaned against the wall quietly. Once they reached their destination, he could go on his way but what concerned her was if these bandits would stop once they got near the land of her kind.

There was a chance that they wouldn't. They wanted Scipio badly it seemed. Still, she would keep her word and take him to the land where she knew it was safe.
