Side Story Champions of the Arena III: Cursed Company

"Daniel!"

As The Doctor finished whispering to the young boy, he would find a familiar voice calling to him. Yashamaru sighed in relief at having located his old ally from the last murder tournament. To think he had now been part of more than one of those... While the chaos and bloodshed from earlier had played out, the samurai had taken the time to collect his items and scout the area for Ouka. Once he'd heard that explosion, though, he started looking for Daniel. "I can't find Ouka anywhere," he said regrettably. "I don't know if he's on another team, or being held hostage...oh." He looked at the group. "Were any of you looking for a microphone? I found one in the fountain. At least...I believe that's what it is." This city was far more like home than Prudence, but technology still confused him quite a bit.

Marianne couldn't answer Josuke. She couldn't. She couldn't do anything, really, but stand there as that memory came back.

Again. It had happened again.

Helena. Haytham. The opera house. The casino. A long list of lives she'd had a hand in ending. So much blood on her hands that she'd never wash it off. And now...now that boy from the casino, the one she tried to save...he was added to that horrible list.

And it was all her fault.

Why was she still alive? Why did she ever think, even for a moment, that she was worth keeping alive? The things in the fountain...she didn't care. A teammate of hers perished...that was on her, too. Just sticking around was a mark of death for these people. So, she had an idea.

Three things. First, she sent a bit of healing magic Spitfire's way. It was the least she could do, an apology to her team for not being there to help Conner. Speaking of...her second item. She went to the fountain to try and find his item. He'd lost his life trying to claim it, there was no point in letting it stay there. Whether she was successful or not, she would at least try. And third...she fled. Marianne dashed into the nearest alleyway, her intent to hopefully draw the attention of a would-be assassin. Keeping enemies from her team while also eliminating their biggest liability. Two birds, one stone.

Soft and Wet caught Sinestro's arm mid-swipe, sparing the Doctor from being skewered upon the Korugarian Cutlass' tip. The Yellow Lantern pierced the boy and his stand with an equally sharp, equally threatening glare.
"Unhand me!" Sinestro hissed, spitting like a viper. "The Doctor has endangered the lives of every single soul in this tunnel! He damn near killed himself! Can you truly consider such a man an ally? Could you ever trust such a man? I am an advocate for the transmission of fear... but hear me now... I shall not welcome such a reckless anarchist into my party!"

"I assure you, my dear..." The Doctor hummed with a casual smile, unshaken by the sudden violent degeneration of their situation. "I am quite capable of pronouncing your name. Additionally, I assure you, I am personally in possession of 'a pair'. If you would kindly clean up you vocabulary, I would greatly appreciate it. Now-" He clapped. "To tend to the Airhead, as you so amiably described him--"

"Yes. On to me." Thaal snarled like a cornered dog. "The subject of your amusement. The subject of your vilification and slander. You would be wise not to vex me, child. I not in the mood for humor. When you're quite finished cracking wise, perhaps you'll pull the hair out of your ears and finally consider a perspective beyond you own. This 'Doctor' of yours is clearly not the harmless old fool he would have you believe him to be!"

"A fool? Me?" The Doctor smirked a mischievous smirk. He lowered his hands. "Poppycock. Humbug."

"He is a liability to anyone who crosses his path. You. Me. My Team. The others..." Sinestro thinned his eyes and regained control over his tone. He released his arm and slowly slipped it out of Soft and Wet's grasp. "I'd wager he's a considerable threat to himself, too. He must be removed from play. Whether it is by my hand, or someone else's, I care not. So long as the Doctor falls, I care not how. Either the Doctor leaves this... Union of Friends, or I do. That, dear allies, is the bottom line. I shall not punish the children for his selfish sins, but someone must be held accountable for the heat he has brought down upon us."

"Step aside, Child..."
Sinestro hummed, dropping his weapon. Although the fuse was slowly cooling, Thaal remained vigilant. His ring continued to flicker and glow. "Standing between us will only get you hurt. If the Doctor moves again, I cannot guarantee your safety."

"I did what I did to protect you. Such was the promise I made myself..." The Doctor muttered grimly, his harmless smile fading to a scowl. "I protected you from Mr. Henshaw. I protected you from the truth. Ever since we arrived her, I've been campaigning to protect you from yourself. And yet, here we are... questioning me..." The Doctor tutted. "Here you are.... questioning my like the ungrateful brat your are. If there is one thing I have learned in all my travels... it is that children should respect their elders and betters!" And, to a being such as he, they were all children in need of guidance. The Doctor planted a firm slap around the back of the boy's head. "Stupid boy. I will not suffer insubordination from you. Cry all you like. Go on. Mourn all the people that my explosion did not, in fact, kill. Continue to dream up hypothetical tragedies. Distract yourself... and let the adults talk. I shall not be lectured by the like of you."

No. That wasn't enough.
The Doctor leaned in towards Daniel, hushing his voice so that only the boy might hear him whisper.
"You're a killer, boy." The Doctor leaned in towards Daniel, hushing his voice so that only the boy might hear him whisper. "The Elderly Arcade. Forge. They're both dead. And it's your fault. Most mass-murderers start of their careers killing small animals. Beasts. Unfeeling things. But you? You leaped straight to human beings. Your soul must be black. It must be filthy. I can practically smell death upon you. If a boy who kills a squirrel shall grow up to become a monster... God only knows what you might become. Perhaps I know you're destined to become. Perhaps I know. Perhaps I would be doing the Multiverse a favor by ending your story here and now. Perhaps it would be merciful... sparing the multiverse from what is to come... Perhaps... should you run out of uses, I shall do just that. 'Prudence' might be blackmailing us... But that won't stop be from securing some additional dirt on you. Never forget your betters, child. Never speak to me like that again."
The Doctor returned his hand to his chest. His fingers started to rotate around his signet ring.
"I will say this once and only once..." The Doctor frowned solemnly, his façade sliding up once again. He turned to address the wider party. "Despite it's 'risks', my explosion saved lives. It incapacitated the Cyborg. It removed a dangerous player from the game. Given the chance, I would happily do it again. My plan was nothing short of genius. If Sinestro wishes for me to walk, so be it... But I know who I would rather have around in a crisis... that man would do anything to protect the lives of those he has placed in his care... Rather than the man who would threaten strangers with blades, less they submit to his personal brand of tyranny!"

Consumed by his grandiose performance, the Doctor was oblivious to the Cyborg's arrival.

Team OBLIVION
Bang!
Crack!

Shang's portal worked as the Wizard had intended. Some might say that it worked a little too well. The Wizard and the Assassin were set down directly in the path of the rest of Team Oblivion. The entire party was bowled into a nearby stall. The shopkeeper, strangely absent, barely noticed them peeling leaves of cabbage from their clothes. The Market's patrons were all captivated by a nearby street performer. The carnival artist spat flames high into the sky, hopped on one foot and juggled 6 bowling pins, all at once. Oh, how the public adored him! The sounds of cheers and laughter were sobering, a stunning change from the chilling, pained cries which had besieged the Conscripts ears not moments before.

"I... thank you, Shang..." Evie muttered, cradling her throbbing shoulder. "I... thank you..." There was nothing more than she could say. Nothing that wasn't already obvious. Without him, she would be dead, a fact he was clearly aware of. They had underestimated their foes, and they had paid the price... but they were alive. For now. That was what really mattered.

The Assassin turned to her cane for support, only for her hand to slip from its missing handle. The Cowgirl had taken it, no doubt. No matter. The sheath was worth ten of the sword, a saying Evie vowed to prove true the next time she and Zora crossed paths.

"We... We need to keep moving!" Evie winced, hobbling to her feet. "We need to get off the streets... cause a... a distraction! They'll be--" The Assassin stumbled, falling against a market stall for support. "--They'll be here soon!"

From the top of a nearby rooftop, Team OBLIVION could feel a pair of eyes staring down at them.

"I agree with Four-Eyes," 17 hummed, letting his fellow Cyborg's retreat go unopposed. "Oblivion are the guys to watch for, that much I know. Sure, the chick was easy pickings. If Zora hadn't blow a fuse, she probably coulda taken her own. The Old Man was something else entirely." 17's smirk grew wider. He shivered with anticipation. Never thought that would happen hear. Sure, blasting humans was a decent distraction. But thrilling? No. Thrilling foes didn't come around often. He was gonna relish his chance to turn the Wizard inside out. "I want to see how much energy he can absorb before he explodes... But we can't do that unless we--" 17 turned on the spot, his hair swishing in his wake. The Eleven had been quite. Too quite. The creep hadn't shut up before but now he was just-- "--Gone. The Eleven's gone. That's another man down..." The Android groaned. "He was hardly a power house, but I hate for him to go and get himself killed. Now that would sully the Team Name..."

The Android perked up at the mention of a scouting party. His eyes bounced between Fushimi and Eren.
"Scouting sounds good. Eren, you heard the good man. You're up. Do your vantage-point-thing and head down to the Market. Tell us what you see." 17 parroted Fushimi, turning back to the sewers. "The rest of us? We've got options. We can start looking for the Eleven... try scaring him back in line. We could try setting up a came. Or... There's a Cyborg, a pensioner and a bunch of kids hiding in the sewers right now. Bet the Dead Hearts are down there with them. It would be a shame is someone were to... collapse the tunnels... trapping them down bellow... Its hardly sporting... Probably a war crime... But it might get a certain someone's attention..."

"Duly noted, but what did you expect from someone you threatened a good five seconds ago or so? What, you want me to let it slide completely? Ignore it? That's kinda funny." He replied, no ounce of amusement in his tone.

"At the end of the day, we all got the objective to kill the guy who brought us here right? All this drama is just giving him what he wants, yeah? There's totally more going on here than we know." Ramuda spoke with a nonchalant shrug. He wasn't all that bothered by the Doctor's current betrayal, and ever since they got down in the sewers did he get a vibe from the man that all wasn't well. Keeping the man out of his sight definitely didn't sit well with the rapper. Ramuda himself probably wasn't the most trustworthy of the bunch either, but they didn't need to know that.

"Either way standing here arguing is stupid when Nexium is probably waiting for one of our teams to pop out of the sewers like a wack-a-mole. So can we take this conversation elsewhere or what?" He scoffed, only to scratch the back of his head as the Doctor scolded him on his language.

"Ah, ha ha oopsie, I guess I got a bit upset there that some curses slipped.~" He chuckled weakly, giving a slightly sheepish tone with the excuse, but really didn't care nor try to correct the Doctor on the fact that he wasn't a child and could curse however much he wanted.

"If you have such a problem with Doc, y'know, instead of letting him walk you could try and keep a closer eye on him or--" Ramuda started, gaze landing back on Sinestro, before he perked up and whirled around in an instant at something someone else said.

"Daniel!"

"Wait, you found a microphone?! Lemme see, cause I swear that cowgirl took mine and I don't see any other mic users I know in any of the teams, but...yeah, that could do until I get mine back proper before they potentially break it. Maybe I could give this one back to it's owner too." He replied, Thaal and the Doctor not his main priority at the moment and instead landed his gaze squarely on Yashamaru. Depending on who the owner was, he'd probably still hold onto the mic even after getting his own back.

Feeling a breeze, the rapper's body went rigid as his gaze snapped to Hank as he held the Doctor by the throat, eyes narrowing and lips pursing in thought.

"Tin Man, I don't know how much is brain function or how much is coding that you got going on in your head, but you gonna kill him or not? If not, put him down already." Ramuda spoke bluntly.

"Hold on, don't overwork yourself. First let's get you somewhere where I can look at you and assess your wounds." Shion spoke up as he helped Evie stand.

"While I'm no doctor, I have some medical knowledge so hopefully it's nothing too serious that we have to find an actual doctor for." Shion frowned. He remembered Nezumi being shot, and having to help him get to a doctor years ago, and it always came down to bullets didn't it? Setting that thought aside, he glanced around for somewhere they could go from there that would work as a place to hide while also wouldn't leave them cornered.

"Someone's watching us, if that feeling I'm getting right now is correct." He added, frown deepening. It couldn't of been on of Team Nexium's members already could it?

Ramuda would recognize the item Yashamaru extended to him wasn't his actual mic, but rather a cheap knock-off. He wasn't sure if it was, but it seemed small enough for this child to weild. The men fighting he kept wary eyes on. He couldn't care less how these people squabbled, as long as they kept it away from the children.

Ah, damn. It wasn't an actual mic. Cheap knock off or not, he took it from Yashamaru and looked it over carefully.

"A cheap knockoff, but I'll keep it for now anyway, thanks.~" he spoke as he gave the other a nod. Maybe he could switch it out with his mic. The problem with that, however, would be getting close enough to make a switch. It was an option though, so he kept it in mind. He wondered if she knew about the knockoffs at all? He'd have to ask if he got back home.

❝ Understood, I'll come back once I get a good idea on what they're up to. ❞ Eren nodded once Fushimi and 17 gave their thoughts on his course of action. For them to be cooperating with little to no problem, it made Eren confident that they were making progress. They had to be.

Firing off grapples at a nearby building, he boosted himself high enough to land on the rooftops. Marketplace. That's the destination to scout at. After making a good enough distance grappling and boosting himself to rooftop after rooftop, he refrained from using it any more to avoid the other team of his presence. Crouching down on his rooftop vantage point of the marketplace, he kept himself out of sight as best as he could while gaining a good enough read on Team Oblivion.

It was hard to make out what they were discussing, but their actions from here on spoke louder than words. For that, he had to wait and see before deciding on when it was time to report back to his own team.

❝ ... even if something bad happens because of him, I-I can take it! I mean, my Other Self can take it since I've transformed for a time. ❞ Mato's voice protested to Sinestro, wanting to be useful even if she herself didn't know what to do with this tension surrounding the Doctor. However, Ramuda did have a point. The sewers wasn't safe at all, especially after that explosion attracted the attention of the dangerous Team Nexium.

❝ Sewers. Dangerous. Relocate. ❞ Oh, r-right! Um... we should get away from here right away, before the people from Nexium catch up... Mato sounded like Rock had reminded her of the current situation that looms after them, plus the fact that the Other Self went out of her way to speak this time around. It was hard to say if everyone here could be on the same page on that, considering the tensions felt high either way, but hopefully they could agree on relocating pronto.

“There’s something about the old man I don’t trust...” Josuke says, “I say we send him to the Stand over there,”

Soft and Wet unhands Sinestro and sends a bubble over to The Doctor, stealing his eyesight.
"Did it?" The Doctor felt a metallic hand around his throat as he was pushed up against the wall. The others had only felt a gust of wind. "What did you believe you were going to accomplish? I might not know which one you are, but he would not have been this sloppy." His eyes took a menacing red shine to them at the same time using his X-ray vision to confirm to see if he really was a Time Lord. "Perhaps I shouldn't keep you like this. So frail...your hearts might give in."
Team PRUDENCE/DEAD HEARTS
The Cyborg's scan disproved his suspicions. The Doctor did, in fact, possess two hearts, both of which were sent aflutter by his sudden attack. Helpless, thin and trembling, the Doctor could do little to escape his adversaries' hold. Josuke's bubble sealed both his eyes and his fate. Blackness crept in from the corners of his greying vision.

"You mean the Doctor?" The Time Lord wheezed, a smile creeping across his trembling lips. "He wouldn't have engaged at all... You and I both know that... He would have ran away..."
The Time Lord's body wet limp. His neck gave way. His head rolled back into his shoulder. His foot twitched, a final spark of life. No. His lips continued to flutter, despite his rapidly graying skin.
"He always did love running away... That was the one part I could never Master, you see...
The running... Always getting caught. Always getting banished... Always getting killed... Still... You know what they say, Mr. Henshaw... You of all people must know... How the saying goes..."

Color. Fire. Life returned to the corpse's face with a spectacular display. A wave of heat and passion surged froth from the Time Lord's person, its strength dwarfing the shockwave that had announced the Cyborg's arrival. The dark, dreary sewers were flooded with light. It was like staring into the sun. In the heart of the flare, the Time Lord started to change. His skin grew smoother. His hair grew thinner and thinner, until the few white strips that remains vanished in another wave of heat. He grew taller. Stronger. Broader. The antique buttons that had once fastened his jacket together where shot in all directions. Even in the eye of the flaming storm, two dark seeds continued to loom. No matter how bright the fires burned, they could never dim the darkness that lurked behind the stranger's eyes. No one ever forget those infernal, Dark Eyes.
"We all live and learn!"
giphy.gif

"We live and learn!"
In a flash of gold, a different man stood in the Time Lord's place. A new face smiled back at the Cyborg, one his data banks might have been a little more familiar with. The Dark Eyed Time Lord laughed a long, dry laugh. His smooth, unblemished hand struck the Cyborg's cheek. The heat that had once cocooned him leaped from the Time Lord's person and crept across Henshaw's immortal flesh. First came pain. Then came confusion. Fright. Disorientation. The Cyborg's muscles turned to jelly. The Time Lord's regeneration energy slowly, excruciatingly restored Henshaw's damaged flesh. The restoration process registered his cybernetics parts as 'infected bodies'. A war between his healthy cells and his inhuman augmentations had begun. The process was agonizing. The Time Lord carefully pried himself from the Cyborg's softening grasp. There was no use throwing away two lives in one night.

"Regeneration is a remarkable thing, isn't it?" The Time Lord cheered, relishing in the clipped, nasally hum of his new voice. "I really should thank Madame President for my Second Dose. I can name at least a million men who would kill for a 14th body... and another million who have killed for a shot at that prize..." A grin crept across his slips. "Who ever said crime doesn't pay? Who ever said the wicked don't win? You know, I must get around to sending the High Council a Thank-You-Note. Not that they'd ever read it, of course, but it would be a nice gesture all the same." The Time Lord straightened out his spine. His spry legs skipped on the spot. Oh, that was going to take some getting used to. "Now... here's the real question... why am I wasting my time telling you all this? Ha. Time. Wasting Time. Time Lord. Ironic." The Time Lord banished his wandering thoughts. He was working with a new brain. A new tongue. New teeth. There were kinks he needed to work out yet. "Anyway. You already know all this, don't you Hank? Sure, some psychic distractions might have obscured my identity before, but now? With my brain safely reset?

"Oh, there's no need to apologize Mr.. Ramuda, wasn't it?" The Regenerated Time Lord chirped. "Express yourself with whatever words you wish! Not that you need my permission, of course! You're a man, after all! You're--" The Time Lord froze. His placed his hand upon Ramuda's forehead, measuring his height against his own. "Have you gotten shorter in the past five minutes? Substantially so? I could have sworn you were taller. Or perhaps I've gotten taller... Oh, it doesn't matter. Ah!" He exclaimed, and excited finger striking the boy's mic. "You found your microphone! Let me guess. In your pocket all along? Don't be afraid to admit it. We've all been there. That's one thing to tick off my To-Do list. Now I can focus on... Oh, what was the plan? Oh, yes. Saving your lives, and the lives of everyone else in this city!"

As The Doctor finished whispering to the young boy, he would find a familiar voice calling to him. Yashamaru sighed in relief at having located his old ally from the last murder tournament. This city was far more like home than Prudence, but technology still confused him quite a bit.
"Daniel?" The Time Lord's face started to twist and sour. "Hmmm... No. You've definitely gotten taller." He placed his hand atop Yashamaru's head and traced a line between it and his own. "I'd say you're at least a foot... Ah." He bit his tongue. "You aren't Daniel, are you? Sorry. New eyes. New brain. New everything. Still. That revelation has saved be a very awkward transition into an apology." The Time Lord chuckled. "Tell me. Mr... Not-Daniel. Did you, perchance, spot a small, metal rod down at the fountain? About the length of a chocolate éclair? Silver? Crimson tip? Makes a funny noise when you press a button on its side? Yes? No? ❝ ... even if something bad happens because of him, I-I can take it!

Though it seemed as he were absent, Aizawa was simply doing what he did best- observing. All the fighting seemed pointless, but he had a debt to pay. If anyone rushed his way, he'd just activate his quirk and hide- but now they were in full battle- it was time to be effective.

"I think it's about time I joined the action," and with that he moved, using his scarf to take the brunt of the bullets- making a sour face as the sewer water sloshed at his feet.
"Splendid idea!" The Time Lord clapped, oblivious to the possibility that he might have had a hand in Mato's decision to leave. "I do believe I saw a lovely little café on our way down here. Nexium have no doubt cleared off by now. The fighting upstairs seems to have stopped." The Time Lord froze. Yes. The screaming had died down substantially, and the ambient gunfire had vanished completely. "How about he climb back up to the surface and continue this conversation over team and biscuits, hm? Maybe some coffee, for the tired fellow with the scarf? Maybe a milk shake, for Mr. Ramuda? Doesn't that sound nice?"

Sinestro, for the first time in a long, long time, fell silent. He folded his arms, picked a spot against the sewer wall and closed his eyes.

Ifrit seemed to perk up at Rhodey's response, a glimmer of excitement in her eyes as she saw Rhodey slip on his armor. Though she was still hungry, and a little lethargic, the sudden surge of emotion seemed to bring some life to her, returning her for the moment to the rather exciteable state she usually was in, even in the heat of battle.

"H-... Hell yeah! Let's do this, O-... Operator Ifrit, ready for-...!" She trailed off a little as she instinctively grasped at the air behind her back, twitching for a moment as she remembered something.

"D-... Damnit! I'll... I'll fight without it! But, I... Want my flamethrower!!!" She added.

Swiftly trying to kick her body back into action, she gathered flames around her body, preparing for a battle. It would be all or nothing. Whether or not she could recover that flamethrower of hers, she was willing to do whatever it took to get back to the others, and as Rhodey suggested, find the culprit behind that sewer explosion... Teach them a lesson or two.

It wasn't just because they had endangered the lives of practically everyone in the blast radius, but because in her mind, they had the gal to humiliate her so!

"Guess that makes you the scarecrow, kid..." Ifrit. "I know that we're supposed to wait until the others get back... but what can I say?" Emerald thunder crackled across the Android's chest and pooled at his fingertips. "I was never one for sharing!" The Android waved his arms. The lightning leaped from his arms and swung froth like a lasso. With a flick of his wrist, the lasso looped around onto itself, forming a roaring, crackling ring. A rebel yell. He tossed is sparkling saucer towards the pile of conscripts.

The sword had gone cleanly through. The residual life force Shang Tsung had stolen from Zora healed as he pulled out the sword and handed it back to Eevie. "I did what I felt was prudent," Came his reply to the assassin. "Less of us means less when we are finally standing in front of Arcade."

Shang Tsung stroked his beard casually. Not seeming to non-plussed about the situation. "I believe you need to calm yourself, but I do agree. We need to continue. An open place like this is not good for us if our shadow decides to reveal itself."

A whistle pierced the air of the Market. The patrons, used to such an occurrence, ignored the chime and kept going about their business. But there was something about the ghostly note that stole the Conscript's attention. A figure stood in the doorway to a warmly lit Pub, his face obscured by the fading daylight. He whistled against, before eagerly signally for the Conscripts to follow him inside.
“Shit...” she mutters under her breath.

“Imma trah n’ scout out whit’ thuh big boy,” she says, heading towards the marketplace, remaining out of sight of Team OBLIVION

"YAHOO!"

A man formed out of the water, a sharp-toothed grin plastered on his face as he pulled out his sword. He looked back and forth at the current state- the others barely noticing his arrival.

"Man, you guys all suck," he scoffed.
"I think... I think I saw a hospital on that map..." Evie groaned, clutching her side. "It wasn't listed as one of the attractions... Might have been abandoned. But it's too far out of our way. I'll--" Evie sucked in her pain. "I'll live. I'll... I'll be fine..."

Her mind blunted by her pain, Evie was oblivious to the arrival of a second set of stalking eyes. The creeping sense of being watched grew stronger still. The Market started to feel less and less like a sanctuary and more and more like a tomb.

No. When Henshaw realized what was happening he let go of the Time Lord. But why? With a flesh body he could finally let go easily extinguish his life finally. So simple yet.

His screams of pain and anguish as his new flesh melted off from his face leaving only the cybernetic augmentations. The smell was horrible. Finally, it stopped. The smoking body of Henshaw stood up and glared at the bald man before him. "Of course," He hissed.

"Perhaps the pub will have something to elevate your pain," The old wizard pointed at the figure standing at the entrance. "We have already been so eager to step into traps. What is one more?" The longer they stood outside the more likelier chance of them to be accosted. The pub would offer some use in surviving an attack. Shang Tsung started to casually make his way towards the pub. All these parts interested in them well...that made him interested as well.

"Not mine, but a cheap knockoff." Ramuda corrected, blinking at the sight of the new 'Doctor'. This was a new development that he wasn't sure how to handle. And when he commented on the rapper's height the pinkette simply stuck out his tongue at the other.

'Well, isn't this an interesting development! I can't tell if he's become more obnoxious or not, but now I might have to keep a closer eye on him.' Ramuda thought with a hum as he twirled the lollipop stick in his mouth.

"If they left, wouldn't they just come back and look to see if we're still here?" He asked with a tilt of his head.

Shion helped Evie into following after Shang, glancing at the Wizard's back a moment. The hairs on the back of his neck on end as that feeling from before grew. He kept himself as calm as possible, but glanced around the market square for potential exits should things go south.

Yashamaru's declaration that he could not find Ouka would have hurt Daniel if he had really heard at all. Instead, the old man's cutting words were jumping around in the kid's head. He stood still, staring ahead, realizing too late that he had accidentally taken a second life. It had happened so quickly that Daniel had not even noticed. He was only trying to use his powers for good like Sean had told him. Sean had told him that h could accidentally hurt people if he was not careful too. Now, the worst thing that could happen had happened, even if it happened to people that Daniel felt were mean.

"I..."

The Doctor was not the Doctor at all but some other man. Daniel stared at him with wet eyes, not understanding at all. The man was a liar, so did what he say really matter at all? Perhaps what he said mattered too much to Daniel. His brother had said his powers were dangerous, but that hadn't mattered when Mushroom was killed. San had let him kill the puma after it had killed Mushroom. When the old man had mentioned killing animals... did he know? Did he somehow know?

"... I-I can't do this!" Daniel cried out loud. "I hate this! I need to find Sean!"

Daniel suddenly turned and ran deeper into the sewers and away from the others. He didn't know or cared where he went at this point.

Phi let out an annoyed sigh as Shang Tsung made his way toward the pub. Eyeing his back, she shook her head. "Listen, old man, you think you're gonna find a doctor in there? There has to be someone around here who..." Phi, trailed off, a thought coming to her. She looked around for a brief moment, suddenly not feeling very safe at all. "... Okay. Keep your eyes and ears open. Gotta be someone around here willing to help out, even if we gotta pay them."

Phi moved to catch up to the man and the others. "But I can't really pay anyone without you, can I?"

Chase had a lot to process from the beginning and he couldn't quite get his thoughts together, his mind working through so much. He hadn't made much sense of what happened, but his brain clicked the second he heard Sean's name. He would run after Daniel. "Daniel!" Damn it...! This was nothing short of a disaster. One man changed form...the tension...and now Daniel was coming apart now that Sean was gone. That memory...the brothers being torn apart...the brothers being sent to a prison at all! And here he'd thought his own world was corrupt. It was a utopia compared to this!

He looked down to the little boy he gave the microphone to. "I'm going after him. You're free to follow along if you want. I can't guarantee your safety otherwise." This was no place for a child, but if he could protect the ones he'd been with then, he could try to protect the ones here now. Maybe Marianne was a coward. She'd ran from all that had happened before, and she was about to do it again. But it wasn't for herself...or not all of it was. It was a matter of wanting to pass on alone, away from others. No one else could get hurt if she did so. Like these two, for example. If she could just get away...they'd have a fighting chance against this man. Or one of the two would give chase, and eliminate her. So, she continued on running, silently hoping the other two wouldn't perish before she did.

The Time Lord clapped, oblivious to the possibility that he might have had a hand in Mato's decision to leave.

"If, wait stop---"

BANG!

The flaming conscript came hurtling out of the alley and straight into the path of a woman seeking to enter it. The two woman crossed paths halfway across the street, directly in the eyeline of--

"Hey, Fushimi..." Android 17 cooed to his Team mate. "Looks like we're a popular pair. We're Conscript Magnets. First the kid, then OBLIVION, and now this? What luck..." The Android marched down the street, whistling a stolen tune as he approached the growing party. "We've got a Tin Man..." He shot a finger towards Rhodey. "A Cowardly Lion..." Marrianne.

"Yes... Right... Of Course..." The Assassin muttered in response to the Wizard's surgical response. It was like her father had once said: never let one's personal feelings interfere with one's mission. Shang had acted strategically. She would have to remember to do the same, despite her situation. "I don't think I'm in any condition to lead, right now. Shang, your mind is sound. The reigns are---"

WWEEEEEEE

A whistle pierced the air of the Market. The patrons, used to such an occurrence, ignored the chime and kept going about their business. But there was something about the ghostly note that stole the Conscript's attention. A figure stood in the doorway to a warmly lit Pub, his face obscured by the fading daylight. He whistled against, before eagerly signally for the Conscripts to follow him inside.

Maybe Marianne was a coward. She'd ran from all that had happened before, and she was about to do it again. But it wasn't for herself...or not all of it was. It was a matter of wanting to pass on alone, away from others. No one else could get hurt if she did so. Like these two, for example. In her eagerness, Ifrit had run right into danger, but, remembering what Rhodey said, she grinned, flames arcing around her body as the very air around her began to heat up. It was like she was a walking flamethrower in that moment.

"Get... Out!!! Get out of my way!!!" Ifrit shouted.

As that swirl of lightning arced towards her, she instinctively let loose a huge burst of flames from her hands, forming a literal, impromptu fire wall. Wherever Rhodey was in all of this, she aimed to at least draw attention to herself above all.

It was what she was best at; burning a way to victory, stopping at nothing, and intentionally or not allowing her allies time to think and strategize. But without her flamethrower she usually had, she had to improvise with how she would use her arts.

If that wall of fire was successfull at stopping Android 17's attack, she would advance forwards, preparing to arc her flames towrads her attacker.

Whether it was the andrenaline rush, or perhaps the originium in her body reacting to her heightened emotional state, but for now, Ifrit seemed to have lost that lethargic demeanor from before. Though it was hard to tell if, or more likely, when this would all catch up to her.

Between the pains she would be feeling, from both hunger, and her afflicted body, it's a wonder she had made it so far as an Operator back at home...

"Ahh just kidding!"
The Master planted a slight slap upon Hank's cheek. "I won't bore you with hypnotism. You've no-doubt got back-ups upon back-ups of your memories in that blender-head of yours. I'd just be wasting your time and, more importantly, mine..." The Time Lord smugly, and, perhaps, foolishly, turned his back upon the Kryptonian and made his way towards the exit ladder. "Besides. You're too smart to try killing now. I'm a Regeneration Battery for... ohhh... another 14 hours? Give or take a few minutes." He started to climb. "Until then? I'll be seeing you, good sir. Now that the cat's out of the bag, I've got nothing left to hide. No reason to try killing you again. We're on the same team after all. I'll stay out of your way, so long as you stay out of mine. Give our mutual friends my regards. I'm off to grab some tea... Unless you'd care to join me?"

"Maybe they're back already! Maybe they're standing atop of this here manhole!" The Master chirped, unscrewing the canopy. "It's a risk we'll have to take, unless you want to spent the night in a puddle of... well, use your imagination." He winced. "Besides. Nexium hasn't come down here looking for us yet. They're probably off chasing that Blue-Haired Woman from the fountain. She looked very chaseable. By my reckong, the street should be as clear as a---"

Bonk!

The manhole struck the ankle of a fleeing stranger. Distracted by thoughts of retreat, Marianne hadn't noticed the rising manhole cover until it was too late. She was knocked onto her chest before she could aptly react.

"Ah."
The Master hummed. "This is... unfortunate... Are you alright?" The Master yelled as if the stunned girl was deaf. "Are you O-K? Can you hear me? We're just going to got get some tea. T-E-A. Do you know what that is? Would you like to join us?"

Chase Davenport
Chase had a lot to process from the beginning and he couldn't quite get his thoughts together, his mind working through so much. He hadn't made much sense of what happened, but his brain clicked the second he heard Sean's name. He would run after Daniel. " Hey Daniel, sorry it took me so long to connect the dots, but I was with your brother right before everything went to Hell back on Prudence, he was fine the last time I saw him."
The sewer's tunnels seemed to wind on forever. Each stretch was the same as the last. Dark. Stinking. Uncomfortably warm. The journey was as unpleasant pleasant as it was long. Their wet, echoing footsteps and rhythmic pants were the only sounds to be heard. The rumble of the surface was now nothing more than an ambient hum.

Suddenly, and without warning, the hairs upon their arms stood upon their ends. A strangle electric sensation hung in the air. Each breath became a haze cloud. The tunnel started to tremble. The 'water' at their feet started to ripple. A flash. A roar. A light.

A train.

There were no tracks to be seen. It didn't belong in the sewers. This wasn't its domain. And yet, knowing that fact did not seem to slow the unrelenting, 40 ton beast down. It showed no signs of stopping. Sparks erupted from its rusting wheels. A pair of dark eyes watched them from the driver's cabin. Pale teeth were illuminated by the train's lights.

"The only death we should be trying to achieve is Arcades," Came Henshaw's remark to the Master. Always the same with this one, though Henshaw wasn't quite if this one knew how true his words were. "The sewers have lost their strategical uses." Henshaw floated slightly above the ground heading towards surface. "We shall see what we find." To be honest Henshaw didn't want to leave the Master out of his sight. He had learned to keep his eyes on him at all times lest disaster struck.

And some times even when you did. Henshaw casually floated up from the manhole cover looming over the Master and Marianne. "We are wasting daylight. Take your pet,and let us continue on." The look of disdain on Henshaw's robotic face was evident as his eyes met Marianne.

Well this was a surprise. "Your offer is...acceptable." Eevie as she was would only slow them down. She was of no use to them like this, only as a body to be thrown at their pursuers. Fushimi nodded along, letting Zora and Eren briefly separate to scout around, while also having noticed alongside 17 that the eerie disappearance of the Eleven could only spell potential trouble for him. In terms of raw power, he couldn't imagine that guy would have contributed much, but then again, the right kind of mind could always be just as dangerous as the most brutish thug. He let out an amused breath at 17's proposal to collapse the tunnels, definitely entertaining the suggestion, but before he could respond, that was when three certain faces dared to appear before them, in the form of Rhodey, Ifrit, and Marianne.

He clicked his tongue as 17 shot first, embroiling them all into a fight, but it was just as well. They were all here to fight, after all, so he may as well fight and give a show while he was at it. Even so, Fushimi cared little as Marianne fled the scene, letting her do as she pleased. Less to worry about right here and right now, at least, so while 17 was occupied with Ifrit, that left him with Rhodey.

View attachment 9135

"Alright, tin man. Let's see how much punishment that armor can take before it gives!" Fushimi grinned sadistically, raising his sword in front of himself, gleaming brightly. He didn't even know for sure what the man's armor was made out of, but the bespectacled man wasn't worried about his blade giving way. Surely, the world would freeze over before he'd be so careless as to break it.

With that, his body began to literally glow, engulfed a bit by a blue aura as if signifying the activation of his power, that being his extreme speed. With his free hand, Fushimi drew three throwing knives from under his coat and tossed them at Rhodey, hoping to divert his attention even for just the second before dashing forward, following after his own knives before reaching the older man!

"Take this!" He exclaimed, rapidly jabbing his sword at Rhodey repeatedly, his arm jutting back and forth faster than the eye could see, as fast as bullets out of a machine gun!

The offer extended to Ramuda, Yashamaru gave chace after the younger Diaz.

"In this sorta situation I don't think you can really guarantee much of anything, y'know? Like, ya might not be able to protect all the people you want to cause the cards are stacked against you." Ramuda responded to Yashamaru. He idled a moment as the samurai left, fiddling with the knockoff mic in hand.

'That guy meant it, and I can tell he has a bit of a good guy streak in him. Jakurai might like him.' He thought, narrowing his eyes.

While The Master climbed up above, with Hank following, Ramuda turned on his heels and followed after Yashamaru and co. with a scowl.

He felt a tingling sensation from the charged air, nose scrunching at the smell of burnt ozone. He heard the train before he even saw it, and nearly rolled his eyes as he saw the others standing in the lights of the train that definitely shouldn't of been there.

There was a tingling in the back of his head, but he tried to ignore it and turned on the knockoff mic in hand, raising his other to shield his face from the light, he hoped to stay out of the trains path and not get hit by any stray bolts of electricity with what he planned to do.

"Hey, hey, don't just stand there and gawk!
What are the lot o' you a bunch of deer?
Either take action or get your asses back over here!
" He snapped out in agitation. It wasn't his best verse, and he wasn't even sure how effective this knockoff mic was to the real thing, but hopefully it got the intended effect of having the guys jump into action of defending themselves or at least getting out of the trains way. Well, either way he at least got to test out if the thing worked or not.

"And you Mr. Conductor, better hit the breaks and stop, cause unlike you I don't want these guys to drop!" He threw out another verse, unsure if this one would be just as effective or even less so than the first, but figured if it didn't work on the other conscripts then maybe whoever the fuck was driving a train in the sewers could be persuaded by his words.

"Of course." Shion replied as he eyed the other carefully, grunting as he placed Evie upon the table. He stretched out his fingers and rolled his shoulder a little.

"Why exactly have you gone through the trouble, if you don't mind me asking?" He spoke in a curious tone. This guy had been eager to kill not to long ago, but was suddenly calm as if a storm had passed.

"Ah, and if you need any assistance with treating her, I'd gladly help." He added.

"Ba-Ba-Ba-Bingo!" The Master cheered a gleeful cheer. "The one and only. The humble. Here, in the flesh! Ten points to you, Mr. Henshaw..."

"I am the Master... and you will obey me!"

SECRET REVEALED:
Subject: The 'Doctor'
Secret:
The 'Doctor' was not the 'Doctor' at all. The identity was a guise for the Master, an unrepentant galactic fugitive.
Crime: Mass Murder, Grand Larceny, Kidnapping, Destruction of Property, Vagrancy, Aggravated Assault, Espionage, etc. etc.
Collateral: Unknown. Try asking.

"Ahh just kidding!" The Master planted a slight slap upon Hank's cheek.

"Maybe they're back already! Maybe they're standing atop of this here manhole!"
The Master chirped, unscrewing the canopy.

"Ah." The Master hummed. "This is... unfortunate... Are you alright?" The Master yelled as if the stunned girl was deaf. "Are you O-K? Can you hear me? We're just going to got get some tea. T-E-A. Do you know what that is? Would you like to join us?"

The trains flicking lights were... stunning. Disorienting. It was hard to focus. Hard to think. You could feel another memory stirring. Another image was rippling to the surface of your mind... at the worst possible time.

Evie passed out before she could respond to Tealeaf with a witty response, her limp body falling onto Shion for support. The full weight of her gear, body and weapons were now his to carry. The locals seemed too entranced to notice her plight. All of them, save for the man in tavern doorway, seemed to distracted to notice OBLIVION's presence. The stranger slipped inside as soon as he was certain of the Conscripts' approach.
View attachment 9133
The taverns interior was, in a word, filthy. It stand of pipe smoke. The air was marked with a foul, damn odor. The stench of over-brewed, hard liquor seared the Conscript's nostrils. Despite the bar's dirty interior and seedy patrons, the stranger, clean and comparatively well-kept, seemed to have made himself right at home. He sat alone at a clear, wooden table at the back of the Pub, a doctor's bag rest on the chair beside him. He opened a bottle of salve and moistened his fingers. "Set her down here..." The Stranger muttered, gesturing to the table top. "I'll tend to her. Please, make yourselves comfortable. I've rented rooms in your name, and prepared you a tab. Don't give the bartender your name. Don't give anyone here your name. Am I clear?" The Elven pulled back his hood, and removed a strange, flashing device from his bag. "And... as far as the story goes, you never saw me..."

The Eleven looked upon the Conscripts with strangely stable, clear eyes.
"Can you do that for me?"

Inside the Pub, Team OBLIVION was hidden from the prying eyes of Team NEXIUM.

"Shit!" Rhodey cursed, raising his shield the break the brunt of the radiating heat. Locked inside a suit, the last thing he wanted was to be pan-fried by a rogue stream of fire. Focusing up, he let Marianne slip away, oblivious to the fact that she was destined to tumble a few meters down the street. He lowered his gun turret and kept kept his distance from the action. His jet boots spat another stream of flames, adding to Ifrits flaming sea.
The wall of flames the Operator had projected was enough to divide 17's blast, but doing so sapped the flames of their valiance. In a flash of green, both attacks fizzled and died. 17 soared through the smoke like a laughing bullet, ki pouring from his person in waves. His knee raised, he prepared to planet a mighty strike upon the pyropath's gut.
"Maybe you're not so brainless after all!" 17 grinned. "If you're not the strawman... guess that makes you the dog!"
Crack!
His knee connected.
"Time to put you down like one!"
His fists, joined like a hammer, came crashing down atop the girl's skull.

Ifrit
@Sark @Ver @Yun Lee

Ifrit felt the air being knocked out of her, the impact from 17's hit ripping through her entire body. In reaction, she instinctively gathered the flames that had previously formed a huge barrier, condensing it as it burned a bright white color, its temperature seeming to increase as she focused her flames into an orb practically in the palm of her left hand.

"Hah! I'm not just any dog. I'm a hellhound!!!" She shouted.

Hearing the sounds of someone else beginning to engage Rhodey in battle, Ifrit decided she would have to have faith that her teammate would be successfull. In turn, as Android 17 brought his fists down onto her head, she raised that fireball above her head, using it and her lefthand itself as a makeshift barrier.

At the same time, she gritted her teeth through the pain, and gathered more flames within her right hand, as they swiftly began to grow hotter too. If her impromptu fireball she used to deflect Android 17's strike on her worked, she would immediately follow it up with burst of white hot flames.

"Burn... Burn...! BURN!!!!"

Ifrit cackled maniacally, ignoring the pain surging through her body as she made her stand. In a way, the more pain she felt, the more chaotic she began to get. It was after all, how it always had been for Ifrit.

For now, she seemed to completely ignore Marianne as she ran. Or perhaps, it was an act of mercy?

Well this was a surprise. "Your offer is...acceptable." Eevie as she was would only slow them down. She was of no use to them like this, only as a body to be thrown at their pursuers. "And mighty hospitable." However, some poking and prying wasn't off the table. "Here I thought we all were enemies. Kill or be killed."

"Some of us still believe that. Some of us still want that." The Eleven replied, bluntly. "But we're realized there are bigger fish to fry. Or at least, some of us do. It's complicated." With a tinker and a twist, the Time Lord's device hummed to life. He started his medical scan. "What matters, for now, is that I am not trying to kill you, and you are not trying to kill me. I trust that this unspoken agreement is just as 'acceptable' as my previous one?"

"Because I'm mad." The Eleven hummed matter-of-factly, his eyes still fixed upon his device's screen. He flicked the static image, causing it to recalibrate. "Does that answer suffice? Beyond that... I have my reasons." The Medical Device started to hum and beep. "And so it begins. She'll be feeling right as rain by morning. You should all settle in for the night. The police patrol the streets after dark. They're hunting for some mythological murderer. A slayer of prostitutes. I doubt he even exists, but it won't stop them from shooting any 'suspicious actors' dead."

The Eleven set the device down upon the table beside Evie, its light continuing to douse her. Her bruises were fading. Her wounds were closing. Her eyelids flickered as she dreamed. The Time Lord sat down at the end of the table and took a sip of his room-temperature pint.

"Rest up. Take a load off. We'll have a busy day tomorrow." He muttered, grimly. "Two of us are dead already. The Police are scraping Conner and Forge up off of the side walk as we speak. Think about the mess we made. All those dead horses, all those dead pedestrians... We're all either murders, or accessories to murder. The Police will be cracking down on the streets tonight, and that's going to be the least of our worries. An air of terror sweeping the city, the likes of which it hasn't seen since The Ripper started his crimes. The People of Pride City are tired of serial killer. They're going to be less hospitable to..." He eyed the strange garb of Shang Tsung, Tealeaf and Phi. "Outsiders like us. We're going to have to polish-up if we're going to meet the Prime Minister. With any luck, we'll get all out before the Fluxes start."

Team PRUDENCE/Marianne
"So long as such a sentiment keeps me alive, I'll happily agree with it. Arcade must remain our priority." The Master chirped, lifting Marianne's arm up over his shoulder and hoisting her up to her feet. "But, alas for us, he is nowhere to be seen. Until then, we need to focus on our survival. Until then, we need biscuits! Come on!"

The door of the café opened with a ding. A Time Lord, a barely conscious and a cyborg man walk through the door. A waitress remarks on the scene looking like the start of a bad joke, before going back to her routine. The Master picked a booth and set Marianne down in the corner, in front a smoking ash tray and a crumb-coated plate. The Time Lord signaled towards a passing waitress.
"Hello, you. I'll take a tea, please. One sugar. The girl will have... a coffee. Black. As much sugar as you can legally give her. She's in shock, you see. Had a bit of a tumble. My metal-face friends will take... a room temperature water. If you could bring us a plate bourbon biscuits for the table, that would be wonderful. Thank you!"

The Master tapped his foot as the daylight faded. He twisted a fork into the table. He watched a police carriage roll by, silent all the way. The Time Lord paid the waiter with a smile as she set their drinks down upon the table.

"Better hurry, loves. The shop is open all night, but the streets will be barred at 8."

"Barred?" The Master hummed. "That's curious..."

"Aye." The Waitress chirped. "The Rozzers don't want anyone walking 'bout the place whilst they snoop out the streets, what with that Killer on the loose. The Curfew being enforced on threat o' death, 'ccording to the mornin' paper."

"A Killer? In Pride City?" The Master tightened his words, making them sound even posher than they already did. "What's the world coming to? How long has this dastardly fellow been going about his infernal business?"

"'Bout 3 weeks, I'd say?" The Waitress fiddled with her apron strings. "Started with a couple o' dead Unfortunate Woman. We all felt safe in this part o' town. But now? The bastard is killing anyone 'e likes. Evil thing..." She sighed. With a tip of her head, she returned to her duties. "You're welcome to stay here until the streets open again. The Banger is open to anyone who has nowhere else to stay, or nowhere better to be. We'll have a band playin' shortly. The Soup of the Day will only cost ya a half penny. Have a night night, sirs."

"Thank you kindly..." The Master turned back to face his two unwitting companions. "Well. Looks like we're stuck with each other for the night. Give us a chance to discuss the terms of this alliance of ours, Mr. Henshaw. Whilst this city's 'phantom' gets down to his business, we can get down to ours..."

To match Fushimi's machine gun-fast sword slashed, Rhodey unleased a flurry of machine gun-fast bullets. Falling back across the street, the War Machine refused to relent. Despite the ground he was surrendering, Rhodey continued to pour clip after clip into his machine turret, focusing on Fushimi's center-of-mass. The swordsman could no doubt deflect them, sure, but for every bullet he spent, he bought himself an extra half second. The longer they fought, the darker the streets grew. The darker the streets, the greater his advantage. He'd let his helmet become his eyes, its night-vision lenses keeping his senses sharp.

"You like that, huh? I can do this all--"
[BARREL-TEMPERATURE-APPROACHING-CRITICAL-LEVELS]
Well, maybe not ally day.

Rhodey's turret-fire suddenly ceased. Now in melee range, the War Machine didn't waste any more time retreating. Taking advantage of the confusion that might follow his sudden strategic change, Rhodey placed his palm upon Fushimi's chest and prepared to strike him with a point-blank Kinetic-Repulsor Blast.

Half a block away, white flames carved a path across Android 17's skin. With a forceful shout, a wave of wind and Ki erupted forth from his person, smothering the flames. Kicking back off of Ifrit's hand, the Android flipped away from his foe. Sparks rippled from his boots and he slipped back down the street.

"Lucky shot!" He cursed as he came to a stop. He flicked the hair from his eyes and tightened his first back into balls. "I tried to make it quick. I guess no good deed goes unpunished, huh! You want to play? Fine!" 17 pounded a fist upon his chest. "Bring it on! The next swing is all yours! Go!"

The clatter of hooves sounded from around the street's bend. They were getting closer. Someone was coming.

The deaths wouldn't be laid on Shang Tsung's feet. The only thing they were was an annoyance to find their target. "You won't have to worry about me," Shang Tsung remarked to Eleven. "I am quite good at vanishing in a crowd. Nor will you see me try to end your life. As it would be very...counterproductive."

This is what they should have done from the very beginning. Uniting all able bodies ready. Not play the red-haired jesters game. The sooner Shang Tsung could get out of here the better.

Henshaw stood. Arms crossed as the Master chattered away about this and that. Then the focus came back to them. "Our alliance is simple. You do not try to kill me, and I won't attempt to kill you. It would be a waste of energy from both of us." He glared at the Master and then at Marianne. "The more we are the likelier we are to reach Arcade. Agreed?"
