Anniversary

It is the 800th anniversary of your Empire's life on the Ring. You should be proud as you have proven as against the untold trillions, likely quadrillions and possibly quintillions of Infected Forms that you will not go quietly as did so many others. You have stuck your claim and you will fight. Pat yourselves on the back. You deserve it.

The steady hum of the Adapted capital of Revenant was, for once, absent. The world was almost still, with only the faint crackles of electricity in the sky interrupting the eerie silence. Today was a day of rememberance.

800 years ago, the humans of Terra found what they had been searching for, what they had sacrificed even their very humanity for, and ascended. Today was as close to a holy day as it could get within the ranks of the Adapted, as each and every member thanked those that had come before, and reaffirmed their dedication to wiping out the threat of the infection.

Elsewhere, in Residential sector C-14, screeches of ravenous fury and binary clashed as the trace amounts of infection were kept at bay by the corpse soldiers stationed there, a chorus of 1s and 0s echoing out as the augmented remains of Adapted aimed their new limbs towards the abominations, gouts of flame extending from open nozzles as the infected withered and died, before the AI in control that had outlived its master turned towards the next target.

"800 years have past as I, Nivuc of the Dethakkan One enter my 5th century." Said the aging Dethakkan. The creature sat in a sturdy chair made of Bright and steel with a Rint scribe typing every word that it makes. "There is no celebration. No revelry, and no happiness for this achievement. This Ring, is simply a prison where the others were content with sitting and dying where they stood. They know nothing of what it means to lose thousands of your own people every hour, and it have those slain replaced with a new generation the next week. They do not see our plight and they do not wish to help. We are expendable, bred to be and live to be. However this is a blessing in disguise. With the Dethakkan fighting bulk of the Infection, we are the first to know if there is something wrong and lately the Infection has not been as active as they would usually be. With this in mind, I sent a message out to the other nations for a council to discuss what might be happening."

Ayla walked through the streets of the Southern-based city, bare feet trodding lightly as her supervisor followed beside her. "Any news as to the celebrations for the 8ooth Anniversary of the ring?" He asked lightly, jotting down things as Ayla answered him. The girl pursed her lips, rolling the Bright crystal necklace pendent between her thumb and index finger as she spoke.

"The people will enjoy a few days of festivities. We have never been a species to deny an occasion that can lift the spirits and bring joy." She ducked under the blut cloth being carried by two men, the fabric most likely to be used as a roof under which one of the Anniversary festivals would be held. The man spoke up once more, saying calmly "The generator regions have seen an increase in infection rates. The soldiers have been able to keep the infected under control, but the infection rate shows no signs of decreasing. We have a date for maintenance coming up, do you wish to postpone?"

Ayla waved a hand passively at the query. Her mind was elsewhere on the serenity of the day as her blue eyes scanned over the oceanic waters bordering the city.
"Have the workers needing to do the repairs accompanied by Ghaza riders. They will be able to keep watch while they do any maintenance. Perhaps is is time we start allocating funds into fencing off the main generator area and build sky-bridges to them to improve access." The man wrote this down, brows furrowing as his hand scribbled down the idea.

Aboard the Reverence II Penance
500km Above the Aschen section of the ring.

"Has it really been eight hundred years since we came here?" Commander Lionel said to himself quietly, watching the grainy holographic projection of the ring superstructure glow quietly within the CIC of the Reverence II, hundreds of flashing red areas highlighted active locations in which there were infected, and a tactical readout presented him with an overview of the situation.

All things considered, the Aschen did their best to make use of a bad situation, holding off the advances of the infected as best as they could.

"This is just the quiet before the storm, Colonel McKee.." He mumbled, before turning his attention to another Thalaron warhead request.

Checking everything off, he turned to pull up the cities below, fortifications lining the borders of Aschen districts, along with wide swathes of no-mans land.

"Perhaps one day, we will be able to return to our Galaxy, and find it cleansed of the scourge." Lionel said to himself.

On Nivuc's orders, a message was sent to the other factions to discuss the situation of the relatively lax attacks on the Dethakkan people. The Message reads as such.

Leaders or appropriate authorities I, Nivuc, leader of the Dethakkan one, invite you to my personal residents for diplomatic engagements a week from the time this message has been sent. There is a matter of importance that I wish to speak with you. This matter may speak of things to come in the far future at best and near future at worst. I believe that if council make enough headway, we might be able to prevent what terrible madness the Infection might be planning. I ask that you reply and I suggest that you attend. I shall allow whoever participate a maximum of 10 dignitaries and an escort of 6 soldiers per dignitary. I of course will attend personally, with 9 of my own dignitary and a company of my own personal soldiers. I wish you well and I hope to see you at the meeting. - Signed Nivuc, Leader of the Dethakkan.

The message had been written and sent to the various factions through wireless messaging on all government channels.

As they walked along the sea-side boulevard with Ayla continuing to sort out the multiple queries and questions her supervisor had, another male came running up to them. He paused a moment to catch his breath, then handed the leader a small audio device. "There's a recorded message for you, just came in from the communications team."

She took the device from him, holding it out in front of her face just before pressing a small button on the side to play the message. The voice of Nivuc greeted her ears, his words setting a small frown on her face and made her brows furrow together.

"How interesting. Looks like we have a conference with the leader of the Dethakkan. We will have to begin arrangements, travelling will need to occur straight after the festival...our space ships are not as fast as the other empire's." The supervisor wrote this down, Ayla running a hand through her snow-white hair before sighing slowly. "Please inform the military to prepare a unit of 30 soldiers. The leaders of each of the regional cities as well as I will be attending. Also make sure to tell the second-in-command of each city that they will need to take charge for the time we are away." The communications messenger scurried off to do as she had asked, the girl placing her hands on her hips as she surveyed the ocean in front of her.

In the high halls of the capital, the council of the adapted convened, the room silent whilst their minds raged in the digital landscape. The message from the meatbags Dethakkan had been... unexpected, and because of his the council had little time to spare. Just deciding whether or not they would attend was an arduous task, as half of the council believed they should, and the other wondered when the rest of the council had gone mad and decided lowering themselves to the same level as those primitives was a good idea.

Eventaully, it was decided that they would attend, if only because the Aschen may as well. That faction was a curiosity of the majority of the council, human, yet no historical passages mention anything about them. More knowledge of such a successful splinter faction would be the target goal here. It was eventually decided that High Councillor Cuuvam would attend the meeting alongside High Councillor Smith, the duo in charge of military operations and foreign affairs respectively.

Once the group disconnected from the mind link, they swiftly made their way out and back to do their jobs, leaving only the selected pair. "I will prepare my most powerful Adpated soldiers, as well as acquire us transportation." Cuuvam spoke first, monotone voice somewhat out of place upon the man's titanic body. Having long since given up much resemblence of human, his legs had been replaced with tank treads and his entire right side was a confusing mass of electronics, pipes and a titanic arm.

"And while you do that, i'll try and see what I have on the other factions. Oh, it has been such a long time since my job involved anything but counterintelligence!" Came the rather enthusiastic reply from Smith, as she practically bounced up and down. Standing at a far smaller stature, with darker skin than most Adapted, Smith's augments were far more subdued than her fellow councillor, only including the left side of her face and the majority of her internal organs.

The replies began to come in and are recorded by Nivuc's scribes. The old being was too busy to see to the replies as it was going around making sure security preparations were being done and that the they were out of sight of the dignitaries, or at least the more covert security measures. They were to meet in Nivuc's own estate, a palace that is more fortress then a home. Every hallway had an automatic turret installed, every room was designed to close and there are a myriad of hidden traps, sensors and cameras installed to keep an eye on any and all guests. Nivuc's Palace is guarded by nearly 9000 of his own personal bodyguards of Rints, Acrux, Turbick, Dawcan, Alioth and even Hixam, Bexam and Juxam flying around the palace in order to make sure that whoever visits remains on their best behavior or else.

It won't be long until the palace is ready for visitors.

Imperial Palace, Pellas District, Cascadia City

Inviere stood near a window overlooking the gleaming city of Cascadia, glass and concrete bathed the entire city in a brilliant white glow from the ring's star.

The young woman was deep in thought, and while they were far removed from the infection that nibbled at the edges of their settlements, it was a concern. "We can't simply cleanse this ring." She said to herself, before moving towards a nearby pedestal, there she reached out and picked up a stone tablet with a rather ornate, yet cryptic engraving of their home galaxy, and coordinates to their home star system. The Guidestone as it was called was the single most revered artifact among the entire remnant civilization, a reminder of who they were, and their roots.

Her reflection was interrupted, though, as an Adjutant stepped into the palace reception hall where she had been standing.

"Siress; we have a message from the Xenos that call themselves Dethakkan." The man said, offering a bow, and then passing the woman the folded piece of paper.

With one swift motion, she opened it up, and eyes scanned the written message.

"They want to meet with us to discuss the infection?" She said, tilting her head.

She considered eight hundred years of Aschen reputation on this ring, they had kept to themselves, maintained suspicion of the other races, on the ring, those who tried to venture into the Aschen held territories were often turned away, through the point of a gun. It was only through sheer intimidation, and luck that no one was provoked into attacking them; their massive warships, and the constant threat of the Infection capitalizing on any internal strife among the ring dwellers provided the much needed justification for strict isolationism.

"Shall we break eight hundred years of silence? We have built and consolidated our own forces, focused on maintaining our vessels, what if we have lost the capacity to speak with these Xenos?" The Empress asked.

"They are our neighbors; inform Admiral Acastus to proceed with his Reverence and accompanying fleet to the Dethakkan side of the ring, and transmit a reply in the affirmative that we will hear their people..."

Inviere quietly turned back to the guide-stone, picking it up.
