Moving deeper into the cave the area continued to darken. Shantotto’s ball of light helped but she opted to light the torches along the way too illuminate the way. As they got further however they found that their journey came to an abrupt end. A chasm was in front of them. There seemed to have once been a bridge over but it was now gone.

Looking around they couldn’t spot anything that really sparked an interest. Though there seemed to be an alcove up next to where they entered. Maybe someone could climb up with some help?

Python chuckled quietly to himself. Though glanced up at the alcove and sighed. Someone had to get up there, if it was more dangerous than it seemed then best it be someone other than the young ones.

"I'll do it if no one else will." The archer offered with a shrug as he put away his bow and arrow.

"Just give me a boost and I'll be up there before ya know it." He added. Did he believe it? Maybe. Who knew if the chances of him falling and hitting his head were higher than him actually making it up there in the alcove.

"Stop your whining!" Heihachi snapped at Remy. "Someone get that boy up there!"

Though it seemed like Python seemed more eager. "Fine, I'll do it myself then." Python felt himself be lifted by the scruff of his neck and flung up to the alcove. Once there the archer spotted a large and sturdy crate that he could probably push down for the others to join him.

Looking around some more he'd spot a path etched into the cliff side that seemed quite dangerous to navigate would get them over to the other side.

"Wh-urk!" Python started before an almost inhuman sound of surprise left him upon being grabbed like a misbehaving kitten and thrown as if he weighed less than a sack of oranges.

Thump!

Landing in a pile of limbs, he grunted as he dusted himself off. Upon noticing the crate, he grumbled under his breath and rolled his eyes as he attempted to push it over for the group.

"Watch your heads, c'mon up if ya want. Y'know, ol' Python here working his butt off for ya and all that." He sniped sarcastically, before glancing to the path.

"Eesh, that looks about as fun as watching Clive flirt with his fiance." The archer muttered, before clicking his tongue in dissatisfaction.

Kris pursed their lips at Python being thrown, unsure of they should find it funny or feel sorry for Python., but simply hoped to help Paz along if she needed it.

Python managed to push the create down to the others allowing the others to climb out without much help.

Someone though seemed to take Linhardt up on his offer as Shantotto suddenly appeared on his shoulders. “Oh, how helpful you are. Things like this will no doubt take you far!”

As they all came up to the platform they started to navigate their way through the little walkway next to the cliff and soon enough they found themselves on the other side of the crevasse. The journey continued on through the cave until they finally arrived in an open area with a giant stone door blocking their path. “Humph, stand aside.” Heihachi made his way towards the door going into a fighting stance before punching it with all his might. Instead of it breaking it however the door is blocked by a powerful barrier that sends Heihachi flying backward into the wall behind him. It seemed like they couldn’t just brute force it.

Perhaps there was something in the room that could give them a clue on what they had to do.

Remy would be lying if he said he didn't take a bit of pleasure in seeing the old geezer get sent flying off. There was a rare grin on his face as he started looking around the room at their surroundings. That's what you get when you let your brawn do your thinking for you.

WHOOSH!

"HYAAAAA!"

Exhibit B, as Haohmaru attempted to slash at the door. Clearly the issue was that Heihachi was using his fists. Whst he REALLY needed to do was use a weapon!

Haohmaru joined Heihachi in a heap on the ground as the sword was flung into the air before clinking down on the ground as well.

Remy's investigations meanwhile had him find four circular indentures on the door the size of his palm. Something could be pushed into them...but what? After some more searching around the room, the group managed to recover four emblems. They were severely worn but there seemed to be some sort of images on them. One seemed to depict a sun, another a moon, one with a sunrise, and one with a sunset.

Idiots, Remy thought to himself as he saw both fighters on the ground. Once Haohmaru was out of the way, he looked over the panels. Clearly they needed to be placed in the door...but the question was, what order? And would something happen if he were to place them incorrectly? Just to test things out, he decided to try placing the sunrise disk in the first spot. It seemed the most logical place to put it, but really you can never know.

As the final emblem slid into place a mechanism clicked as they spun in their place. It went silent for a moment before the door started to slowly but surely slide open revealing a well-lit corridor behind it. "Humph. Finally one of you ended up being useful" Heihachi remarked stepping through to the corridor. "Hurry up! We have wasted enough time as it is."

Python rolled his eyes before following after Heihachi, mouthing an insult as he did so. Bow in hand despite knowing that it probably wasn't needed, he kept his guard up all the while and keeping an eye out for something the old geezer might miss.

Kris simply shrugged and followed, offering a hand to Paz if she so needed it while keeping Jitters on their head.

Chapter 3 - Storm the gates


Traveling through the path the group suddenly found themselves at a dead end. Heihachi seemed like he was going to start shouting again when Shantotto pointed upwards. Sunlight was streaming through the ceiling. With a push and a shove Heihachi casually pushed a stone slab out of the way for him and the rest of the group to manage their way out of the tunnel and into the palace courtyard.

The sun had started to set leaving them alone in the dusk, which was surprising considering how well guarded this place was supposed to be. No guards or nothing but they were sitting ducks in the middle of the courtyard. The could see some movement in one of the windows so if they stood here much longer they'd most likely be caught. They could see the main gate to the palace in front of them which seemed to be tightly shut, but could be breached with enough force. On either side of the they could spot a walk way surrounding the courtyard with too sliding doors leading inside. It was up to the group to decide how they final trek of their journey would go.

Having recovered from the magical door, Haohmaru had the sense to hesitate before making a move. "What if we drew attention to those of us who can fight?" He asked. "That way, the others can infiltrate ahead of us."

"If we were to do that, how would we reunite?" As tempting as it would be to leave the more violent members of their band behind, Remy still wasn't sure of what to do. He'd wait to see what the rest of the group had to say about possible courses of action.

Used to an army splitting their forces and reuniting and such, Python rose a brow at Heihachi's eagerness. Remy had made a point, however.

"Splitting up the forces for different fronts isn't all that new to me, so I'm fine with it. Still, other than the problems with meeting back up what if our numbers are swarmed too badly on the 'decoy' front?" He spoke up with a click of his tongue. Having two people who knew healing spells was a blessing back home, here? He figured at least one person could heal off the top of his head among their ragtag bunch.

"Then we send in people who can handle themselves, of course." Haohmaru crossed his arms, giving the group a confident grin. "I've been aching for a good fight for weeks now, and I bet whoever has our escape ticket locked up here isn't going easy with security. I can make enough of a problem on my own so that it'll buy everyone else time!"

The group heard laughter from down their feet. "Ooohohohoho! Dear oh dear. The children have finally gained no fear." Shantotto sashayed up to the group talking about splitting up. "Why send the entire force to face the squad. When one is enough to leave them awed?"

Levitating up from the ground her staff started to crackle with energy. "I suggest you take some cover lest our entire plan will end in ruin." Heihachi seemed like he was going to argue but a look from Shantotto made him reconsider.

Motioning back to the secret pattern they pushed the stone slab back to hide themselves. It didn't take long for explosions to erupt above them and soon alarms started to blare. It sounded like heavy shuffling of footsteps and screams heading to the left side of the compound as well as a roar.

Soon enough though the explosions and shouting seemed to die out from the area. Was it finally safe for them to come out of hiding?

Well, that was disappointing. Here Remy thought he could finally be rid of some of these people. Whatever...at least now their path was--

"Hold it!" Haohmaru hissed a command, raising an arm to stop Remy from moving out into the open. "I've faced all kinds of opponents back home, and seen all kinds of strategies."

"Yes, we know, you fight a lot. But what does that have to do with anything?"

The swordsman picked up a fist-sized rock on the ground, tossing it up in his hand. "I know battle tactics, boy. And a popular one for people guarding valuables...is an ambush!" With that, Haohmaru tossed the rock out the slab into the lair.

"An intelligent thought for once..." A backhanded compliment, but the second half of it, that Haohmaru's intelligent moments only seemed to relate to the battlefield, Remy kept to himself.
