Without sounding like too much of a ****, the original post does say to post character sheets via the GM's inbox, on pain of disqualification. Presumably it's to stop someone making a character who hard counters everyone else.

Is there a pre-existing lore to this somewhere else that I need to catch up on that specifies what races are available, what types of mage are available, how exactly magic works, etc? Or is this completely up to us?

Depends on what you'd like to play. For this question particular, for servants there isn't any lore except what is already established for them elsewhere, as they should be your OC from another roleplay. For the mages/masters, there is a bit of lore. It's based off the Fate Series, so there is some things that qualify them. They are all human. Mages/Magus/Masters are born with what we call magical circuits, and depending on the quality and quantity, will determine how strong a mage they are. There is a lot more information about this, and I'm more than happy to help. If you want to inbox me more questions, please feel free to :)

She’s medium height and solid build. She’s neither soft nor noticeably strong. She wears her black locks in a simple braid down her back. Her eyes are dark and her skin leathered. Her features are unassuming, with a crooked nose and a soft jaw-line that is always set in a firm scowl.

Her family’s focus has always been to create a stronger bloodline, and for generations they have bred and raised their offspring with this objective in mind. Valerie is the second born child of the family Gauchever, and much to her surprise she is the one that bears her family crest.

Wish: To earn her place back in her family, which can be done by bringing the Grail back to her father.

A normal person that managed to find an old introductory book on Golemancy while volunteering at his local library. Bored, he managed to derive the basics of magecraft from the book and internet searches, unlocking his circuits and discovering his element/origin. He has a dual element of Fire and Earth, and his origin is Take. His origin allows him to take ownership of spells/energy sources/physical objects, provided he can get past its magical defences. Ever since Theo discovered magecraft, he wanted to be something more, but after coming into contact with the moonlit world, he hit a wall that he couldn't climb over, forever held back by his heritage. Frustrated at the world and at himself, he sees the Holy Grail War as a chance to undergo a metamorphosis and become truely great. He is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals.

Possesses multiple golems made from the corpses of rival mages. Most of them are first and second gens, but one of them is a 4th gen mangus that still has parts of its magic crest.

Magecraft: Formalcraft, Alteration, Runes, Golemancy, and basic Necromancy.

Wish: To gain power that would allow him to stand alongside the likes of Barthomeloi Lorelei and the Dead Apostle Ancestors.

I just wanted to give you an update on things! So! I have enough applications now to start this war. YAY! However, I am still taking applications.

I will be closing applications on December 26th. If you are still interested in applying as a mage or a heroic spirit, you can still apply until that date. All applications afterward will be ignored.

After the December 26th deadline, I will be reviewing the applications and assigning classes to the heroic spirits chosen. I will also be laying down the final rules, the map of the area, and deciding teams in this time frame.

On January 1st, I will post the forums, and then the war shall begin :)

Spellcraft:
  • Counter-Magic: Max's primary magical training has been that of how to counter and negate the spells and magical energies of other magi. He himself is resistant to magical effects through years of filling his body with this counter-magic, and he is able to almost effortlessly dismantle most magic when cast against him or provided he is close enough to the effect or the source. More powerful magic is obviously harder to dismiss, and most high-level servant magic is beyond is capabilities to dispel, although he may still be able to diminish its impact to a degree.
  • Jewelcraft: Max is skilled at storing magic within gemstones, although this is not his speciality to the degree that counter-magic is. Most notably, when he dispels or dismantles magic from other mages, he can store that magic within gemstones.
  • Veiling: By utilising a form of counter-magic, Max is able to disguise his magical circuits, making himself appear like a none-magi to the eyes of mages searching for magic.
  • Detect Magic: In the inverse of his veiling, Max is particularly skilled at picking up on magi and on magic around him.
  • Enhancement: Max can draw on magic (usually that stored within jewels) to enhance his physical capabilities, making himself stronger and faster beyond human limits, but below the physical prowess of physically oriented servants.

Other Skills:
  • Martial Arts: Max is a skilled mixed martial artist, having trained within his family for most of his childhood and teen years.
  • Weapons Training: Max is skilled at wielding firearms of most varieties, and has trained with martial melee weapons as well - primarily swords and polearms, though he can handle most weapons to some extent.

Equipment:
  • Seraph: Seraph is Max's silvered longsword, embedded with gemstones and reinforced with runes of strength and hardening. The weapon cannot be broken by mundane means and is extremely resilient against magic. Max is capable of channelling his counter-magic through the weapon, using it to slash through and deflect magic. When he does so he can funnel the power directly into the gemstones embedded in its hilt. These three gemstones correspond to three magical enhancements he can use with the weapon:
    • Fire: wreathing the weapon in fire, allowing him to project moderately powerful jets of fire from it.
    • Arc: lengthening the weapon with magical energy allowing him to attack at long range and release arcs of magical force from it
    • Aether: extending the weapon into the ethereal plane, allowing it to harm unsubstantial and ghostly targets, and target the spiritual energy of a person rather than their body
  • Various firearms of most varieties (shotgun, rifles, pistols, etc.)
  • Protective kevlar jacket/under-vest.
  • Motorbike

Bio: Max and his family are part of a group referred to as 'mage-hunters', a loosely organised group of vigilantes who take it upon themselves to police the magical world in ways that regular authorities cannot. His parents, and their parents before them, have been dedicated to hunting down and dealing with magi who would seek to abuse their power over mundane humans. Some utilise magic themselves, whilst others rely wholly on their martial prowess. Max is one of the former, and for most of his life he's been exposed to the worst that the magical community has to offer: murderers, necromancers, rapists and warlords to name a few. He and his family share the view that magic is a tool that too often falls into the hands of the wicked, and is not regulated sufficiently by the magi who view normal humans as beneath them.

This view was only made more extreme two years ago, when his parents were killed by a rogue mage. Now Max has a deep seated loathing for any mage who seeks to exert their power over others, and has become more zealous in pursuing them. It was from his most recent target that he learned of the Holy Grail, and in it, he saw an opportunity to rid the world of the force that caused so much suffering. He would set out to win the contest, in order to wish to cleanse the world of the influence of magic permanently.

Wish: To rid the world of magic.

(I've edited it a bit, after thinking that today was the 26th [Jokes on me it's the 25th, so now I've added more in-depth information about my character].)

Name: Mira Volkova

Bearing a beauty mark galaxy over her small and skinny body, Mira is dark eyed and has long, black hair which she usually wears in a braid. Typically she'd wear a brown cloak, covering her white shirt and a pair of upwaisted leggings. Since she is a woman of nobility, she wears clothes, suitable for her profession but never misses to add a touch of elegance in them, like her finely picked jewellery.
Her grandfather became a victim to the Grail but she's never met him. Ever since she learned she has wandered through his notes, learning a thing or two.
Throughout the years, Mira has also learned the fine art of Healing Magic. A talent, sparked in her since a young age and developed from her father, Viktor Volkov. He was to teach her the ways and tricks of Healing. Later on, her college teacher, Ceasar Goulandris, taught her how to be a scribe, something more practical, with the intentions that one day she'd both aid the wounded and serve the council as a book translator and letter/message consultant. During her time spent in the council, she'd do autopsies of people, learning their soft spots and learning about the human anatomy and nature in general.
Mira loves the powers that knowledge offers her daily, she never abuses them, her benevolent heart doesn't let her to. Personality-wise people would call her ambitious, well-behaved, charismatic, knowledgeable, and sometimes romantic.
During her free time, when she doesn't have any work left in the council, she'd be practising Herbology and training her Healing skills at the cathedral, or working at home, taking custom orders like sending a letter in a foreign language. She wishes for pursuit of knowledge, as she strives for perfection in her Healing skills. Powers of resurrection, and far better. To reach the human ideal of physical and spiritual harmony.

Her Wish is to break the cycle of the Grail, for it broke her family.

"Living in the upper quarter of the capitol with my mother, father, and the rest of the personnel has been easy for me ever since. But when I was fourteen, I was told the truth about my grandfather, who was killed in the fight for the Holy Grail. Even though I never knew him, my family did and they still haven't accepted it. Throughout the years I've learned not just a great deal of his knowledge about magic from my father, but a bit about cartography too when I was around him.
As for my mother, she got very depressed after finding out that Krum Volkov is dead. She dedicated more of her time into taking care of my father, the owner of our estate and a wealthy man who has made money out of wine business. He has been sick for the last couple of years

Magic of Choice
:
Healing magic. Specialise in Restoration and Herbology. Includes a bit of earth elemental, only to the limited extent of controlling small organisms or tree branches.
- Restoration (Passive) - Mending/Healing most kinds of damage, including mental, conceptual, emotional, spiritual and physical. Potentially heal most forms of bodily damage, though the patient must be alive, even if hanging by a thin thread, in order to be healed; once the patient has died, it would transcend healing and would require resurrection instead, a skill which Mira is not quite capable of.
- Blessing - A spell, which buffs the ally, with boons corresponding with the servant's powers.
- Unholy Hands - Depending on how charged it is, this spell blows a stream of energy at the enemy causing either bleeding, fatigue, or weakness. Rarely (7% chance) stuns or poisons the enemy.
- Antiquarian (Passive) - Mira loves collecting runes and gemstones, each possessing a unique buff. Her jewellery plays a big role when she casts spells.
- Shield - Mira can be of help with her shield, when properly charged, it could dismiss stronger attacks or even serve as an invisible protection bubble when buffed properly. Of course her shield is pretty durable but to some attacks from higher class mages - it is no good.
- Melee - At close range, Mira uses her staff to fight as best as she can. Blocking is her better side but she is no push-over when she intends to whack someone on the head.

Ultimate:
- Salvation - This spell heals a big amount of hit points, leaving the her at next to no powers. Takes 20% of her health.

Weapon of Choice:
- Scribe's Staff - A long stick, almost Mira's size, made out of rosewood. To cast magic, she has a talisman in the core of it.
- Backpack - Mira carries her backpack everywhere she goes solely not to forget some important card deck or trinkets of her's that her father has given to her or she has found ages ago.
