Frostpunk: Southbound Trek

The year is 1986, a century since the beginning of The Endless Winter. Triggered by the eruptions of Krakatoa and Mount Tambora as well as a dimming of the sun, the Earth was plunged into an abrupt volcanic winter. Millions died. Crops failed. No hope was in sight.

Our forefathers built the Generators, massive engines in the coal-rich North, designed to be city centers in the event of dire conditions further South and the necessity for a mass migration. For 100 years, we have clung onto life on the edge of what used to be the known world. Little has changed in these past grueling years. Our scouts return with even more meager scraps than ever before, finding only traces of what used to be other settlements. New London and her sister cities, Legacy, New Manchester, and Sanctuary, have long since established contact with each other, yet there is little to take advantage of. The four cities lie isolated yet bonded.

The latest reports from our scouts report something peculiar: fresh remains of another scouting party, ill prepared for the directionless wasteland of the North, lacking a way to return to one of the beacons of our cities.
They must come from the South. Perhaps it has warmed there, yet no sane man would dare venture beyond the reach of our beacons in the search of a vain hope of paradise, not when we have become so entrenched here...

Welcome to the grim alternate reality of the video game: Frostpunk, with some slight modifications. As grandchildren of the original pioneers to trek up to the generators and establish the 4 cities, we are now faced with a dilemma: remain in the North and continue our normal lives, however harsh it may be, or join in the volunteer expedition to travel through the wasteland, seeking out whoever may have survived the The Endless Winter on the other side.

If you're interested, leave a comment and choose between a communal world design or letting me design the world. Input is welcomed. However, because this is based heavily on the game Frostpunk, there will be two restrictions in order to stay true to the concept.
Tech level: [Victorian Steampunk/Industrial Revolution -- Dawn of the 20th Century]
Magic: [Non-existent] (However, if you can come up with a logical explanation and background behind some kind of object or power and it is not completely just magic, it may be fine. e.g. Cast Firebolt/Conjure Ice.)

That's about it.
Thanks!

This looks pretty interesting, what kind of roleplay would it be size-wise?.

Depends on how many people are interested. The very maximum size for this would have to be capped at multi-thread, though that would probably be excessive. The story would most likely just follow one group unless there are too many interested, in which case, I have a plot element to allow for a multi-thread roleplay.
