Gallica

Crescent Moon

Light has no shadow.
The heavens were a molten gray. The clouds were thick and heavy with rain, blocking all light from the noonday sun. The wind blew harshly on the barren, rocky landscape that lined the thundering ocean. Lightning cracked the darkness and thunder was swallowed in the sound of the crashing waves. Not a living thing was in sight of this monstrous storm, however, this was a common occurrence on the beaches of Gallica. The air was frigid and the spray of the sea would often freeze midair, but the constant stir kept everything from freezing over completely.
Not far from this was a small city that had buckled down for the onslaught. The buildings were short and dome like, most of it being in the rock the town was built on. The trees that surrounded this city were short, thick, and gnarly. The leaves were small and were blowing around like crazy.
Not far from the edges of the city were crevices in the rock. Large gashes with riverbeds at the bottom. In one of these huddled a group of about 7 kids, ranging from 10 to 15. They had made a little huddle out of branches to keep the rain out and the crevice protected them from the wind. They had made a little platform to straddle the stream that they shared the crevice with and the pelts of several unidentifiable animals littered the area. The kids were wrapped in a few of these pelts and were busy playing some sort of game with stone chips.
The leader of this little group was a 12 year-old boy named Aodhan. A native to this world and a descendant of Cernunnus. The others consisted of animal-like people and other humanoids that were able to survive this harsh climate. Each and every one of them had a hard past and all were brought together by Aodhan who had helped them in one way or another.
Aodhan passed around a chunk of meat that had been dried and everyone ripped a piece off. Aodhan stretched and clapped to try and get everyone's attention.
"Alright," he exclaimed happily, "I have a proposition." This had everyone's attention.
He smiled "When this seasonal storm finally ends, I think it will be time to move to the next city. Perhaps somewhere a bit warmer? What do you guys think?"
The others were surprised. They had saved up enough coin to go, so that wasn't an issue. Anywhere but there was a good place. Perhaps a forest based city? That would give them a better advantage if they had to be placed in a dangerous situation.
As they discussed this, Delta, Aodhan's second and who resembled a crow, shared the other's decision.
"We think this is a great idea. Perhaps it will give us a better opportunity to make money and actually get a decent place to live." Everyone was nodding.
"Then it's decided," Aodhan said happily. "We'll pack and head when this season has changed into the hotter months. We'll head for the forest city Stela."
Everyone cheered happily, and the night wore on.

The hot months had arrived and the group was ready. They packed their makeshift bags and were walking the dirt road away from the sea. The sun was a nice copper color that morning and the ground was lined with stone where wagons would pass by. They had a ways to go.
