Heart of the Pheonix

Crescent Moon

Light has no shadow.
The world was ridden and desolate. Skeletons of ancient buildings rose out of the ground in rusty fragments like broken teeth throughout the ancient, dead city. It was once a world that few could survive in, but humanity was beginning to ascend once again.
These days, almost every person lived in the small villages surrounded by makeshift walls to keep the unordinary creatures out. Some were dangerous, with large talons and insect-like bodies. These were carnivorous and people weren't much of an exception in their diets. Other's were less interested in the human population and would much rather suck away on the rust like large leaches.
No one knew were these things came from. There were many other mysterious creatures as well, a few even looked humanoid and some were intelligent enough to communicate. These were the most dangerous. A few of these humanoids had attributes similar to things only found in fiction, vampires, zombies, etc. They were different and some of the creatures found roaming wouldn't even be found among fiction. Every day there seemed to be a new type.
Humanity began trading with some of these subspecies, in which they too had built villages and a society. The two separated species formed a treaty in the early years, the humans would provide the tools and resources necessary, while the other species (they called themselves the Corvids) would research the other creatures in the area.
As the years went on, the two villages expanded and grew into one. The combination of humanity and the Corvids resulted in what is now the City. The Corvids continued their research, finding more humanoids and bringing them under their wing until they can be placed in the proper care.
There are groups of Human's and Corvids alike called hunters that go out to find supplies and bring in humanoids and other other pockets of people that have survived on their own.
Another job is called Caretakers. These people work within the city to try and help the humanoids that can't live on their own or need special materials.
Other than these two jobs, not much is different than what can be found in regular old society.
Gun powder is low in supply so the common weapons include knives, crossbows, and the like.
