Heroics and Antics

Kin no Keifu

Genealogy of Gold
It was a humid summer day, hardly the kind of weather Eduard liked walking around in. The mall he wandered was buzzing with people, their sound echoing through the halls like so many annoying contraptions. Groups were everywhere. It was, all in all, an oddly busy Saturday. This place was usually emptier than... this.

The door to the nearest coffee shop opened, jingling with a little bell to warn that a customer had entered. Immediately, the man was hit with a nice, cold wave of air, probably from the well-hidden air conditioner behind the large, overhead menus behind the counter. The people inside were still loud, of course- it was a coffee shop, of course there'd be friends meeting and all that- but it was acceptably so with the cold.

Eduard headed to the counter, already scanning the menus. Doughnuts sounded nice. Maybe paired with iced coffee and caramel. He had enough money in his pockets for that, at least.

Digging in the register as he grabbed some change for the customer on the other side of the counter, a light and airy smile hugged the corners of Owen's lips as the dark haired women across from him took a sip of the latte that she'd ordered, the sound of the bell hanging above the entrance to the shop ringing in his ears again. The shop was unsurprisingly busy on this humid Saturday afternoon with customers wondering in an out of the shop all day, it'd been anything but a boring shift. Some people sat at the tables in the corners with their groups of friends, chatting and laughing among themselves as they enjoyed a doughnut or drink. Others sat staring at laptop screens as they carelessly typed and scrolled away, enjoying the free wifi and air conditioning, probably relieved to find an escape from the heat for a bit. Some even bothered to stop and have a small conversation with him. He couldn't complain too much about how busy his shift had been though, since the only time the shop seemed alive were days like today, were the humidity was at it's worst. Otherwise, it was quite a relaxing store were people normally just stopped by for a drink or snack on their lunch break, lingerers normally no were to be seen.

"Here's your change," the young blonde said as he closed the register after double checking that he'd had the right amount in his hand, handing it over to the women's open one as she took her small change, "Have a nice day."

The women's open palm closed as she answered him with a simple nod, the smile on Owen's lips fading for only a moment as she walked off, his hazel eyes finally landing on Eduard when he noticed the other man and he instantly found himself perking up again. "Welcome!" He greeted with a gentle wave of his hand as he caught the others attention. "Are you ready to order?"

"Caramel iced coffee, please. And a doughnut." Eduard reached for the wallet in his pocket. "Unless you could recommend something else? I haven't been here before, and I have no idea what you guys do well."

If it was expensive, his next job would cover it. Rob a bank, maybe, and keep some of the money hidden on his person so the heroes who get him to drop the bags think he's dropped everything. That was always a good idea.

His focus went to the blond across the counter, looking about as innocent as everyone else in this store. Maybe he could get some extra change off him? That'd probably be a sufficiently evil act to get him a few extra minutes. He was wearing long sleeves, after all. He could just slip a few coins into his jacket.

Nina walked into the store hurriedly, wearing a golden dress that matched her bound up hair. She drew attention to herself as if she was walking along a runway, and some even stopped eating halfway to stare. Her beauty was remarkable: Her silver hair seemed to glow and sway in an invisible light as she walked with a certain grace to her step, her golden eyes wide and staring as she walked to the counter silently.
Scanning the menu with a blank expression, she tucked her hand under her chin in boredom, not removing her eyes from the written words. After a few minutes, she seemed to have decided and reverted her eyes.
