Vitam et Mortem IC - Altsoba School of Sorcery

Eva

The young sorceress waited, happily chatting away with Anna. She was glad to have found a friend in the other girl having bonded with her very quickly after the tournament together. When Anna looked around Eva, a slight shift in her expression alerted her to Nito's appearance, without even turning to see who it was. She gave the well dressed wind sorceress a brief hug before turning to her boyfriend.

From the corner of her eye she'd see Anna slip away to find her date--Heinrich of all people, though Eva wasn't 100% sure it was supposed to be a date. Eva's eyes lit up at Nito's appearance. Dressed in the complimentary navy blue suit, he was more handsome than she'd ever seen him. Her smile was bright and shining as she kissed his cheek then took his arm and they walked together into the dance, pausing for their picture with Eva tucked delicately under his arm.

Once inside she was caught up in the excitement of the decorations, the swirling marble floor, and how dressed up everyone was. Still, in the back of her mind was the nagging remind of where they would be going later that evening. For the most part, though, she could ignore it to instead focus on the wonderful night that lay ahead.

She never noticed the redhead following a few paces behind.

Natalia

The Russian let another couple pass between her and Nito before she followed inside, breezing past the photographer who wanted to stop and take her photo. Instead, she edged in behind a rather awkward looking couple and managed to spot the shiny silver of Eva's dress. The whole ensemble made her snort. Nito, of course, looks perfect while that witch is dressed like the true skank that she is.

Natalia had managed to grab a cup of punch on the way and now the drink inside began to bubble: a low boil. Frowning, she'll put it back on the table and meander through the other students, always keeping an eye on the discoball that was holding Nito's hand, laughing at something he was saying...

Meghan

She was beginning to wonder if Vivian was actually going to show up at all when Meghan finally caught sight of her roommate. She looks.... stunning. There is no other word to describe her date's appearance and Meghan was really beginning to regret her decision to wear converse to the dance.

As Vivian approached, Meghan would fluff out her skirts nervously and then shyly offer her hand to the other girl as they walked into the dance, pausing for their picture, which would come out with Meghan looking up at Vivian.

Blake

"I don't know, man." Sammy was saying when Blake heard his name. Tuning out the rest of the conversation when he caught sight of Kenlei and... Charlie. Holy crap.

"Uhh, see you later." He said to the guys he'd been chatting with. His best friends had arrived and they were both looking fantastic. He jogged over to them, coming to a stand behind and between them so he could offer them each an arm. His usual goofy, charismatic smile was in place but he was almost... shy as he took in the appearance of both girls and announced that they both looked incredibly gorgeous and then offered Charlie his condolences at the torture she must have gone through at Kenlei's hands.

She was not to be left out, though! Because Blake had his sympathies for what Kenlie must have gone through to actually get a brush near Charlie's hair.

To the camera man, they'd go! Blake making them hold up the line so they could do a reglar picture and a picture that was more suited to their personalities.\

Sophie

She wanted to dance! But she was nervous, shy not not quite ready so she dragged her friends over to the punch table. As they neared one bowl that was magically serving the empty cups, she wrinkled her nose. That punch smelled... well, like her Uncle Robby on most holidays.

She opted to skip the punch that someone had apparently spiked and moved further down the table where there was a bright pink liquid that smelled like fruit. She'd grab a cup and then turn to eye the rest of the students. "Everyone looks so great!" She was practically gushing, but she didn't really care.

Kenlei

Cringing at Charlie's shout to Blake across the room, she glanced up at her friend, one side of her mouth kicked up, "You can put the Charlie in a dress, but it doesn't change the Charlie, does it." It wasn't a question. Turning back to Blake, she raised a manicured hand and waved delicately with her fingers as he strode forward to greet them.

Her arm slid through his and hugged it gently against herself in a friendly way before she snorted at his comment, "The look on your face when you laid eyes on her from across the room made it all worth it, right, Charlie? Also, you look super hot in that jacket, Blake."

As they made their way to the entry line, Kenlei leaned up on the balls of her feet to try to peek into the room to see the decorations, but being so tiny, she couldn't see much of anything besides people's heads. Lowering once more she decided to wait patiently, though her fingers drummed on Blake's arm.

Truth be told, Kenlei was a both excited and nervous to go in there. She had been asked to the dance by Landon, one of her popular friends, and she had turned him down to go with Blake and Charlie, something she had kept solely to herself and was hoping would not become a problem.

As they got into place for the picture, she smiled her best, winning smile for the first one, and then, of course, did the same for the second, though one hip was cocked out, and her hand on it.

Jera smiled wide, following Sophie as the girl pulled her and Hazel through the room towards the punch bowl. She noted the girl's nose wrinkling, her own picking up the sharper scent that told her someone had already had their fun with it. She grabbed a glass anyways, taking a delicate sip and laughing as she followed Sophie further down the table to the petal pink drinks.

Pursing her lips, the young sorcerer grabbed one of those drinks as well, dumping half the pink liquid into an empty glass and mixing half of her spiked punch in with what she had left of the pink drink. She left the lightly used punch glass on the table, taking a sip of her newly mixed drink and arching a brow in approval at the taste.

Now she should be fine. Nothing too heavy, but just enough she could have some fun with it. Already, ice eyes sparked with a light buzz, her posture loosening as she looked thoughtfully towards the dance floor. The band was playing an upbeat song that made her want to dance, she tugged on her friends hands, balancing her drink as she swayed her hips.

"That music is tempting, who wants to join me?" She asked, bright smile curving her lips as she started wiggling to the beat.

Hazel wrinkled her nose in distaste at the strange scent wafting off of the punch, passing as the other two girls snagged some of the drink, but she didn't dare opt out on the other, sipping at it carefully. Not bad, she thought, grinning. She scanned the room, eyes flitting from face to face, varying from girls with outrageously large dresses to boys who looked like they'd rolled straight out of bed. She made a small noise of surprise as Jera tugged on her hand, turning to see the other girl swaying to the music. Oh, right! The actual dancing part. She knew that she was rubbish at it, but she threw her fears to the wind, speaking up as she tapped her foot. "I'm in," she said, beginning to get into the music. "Sophie?" She flung a smile at the other girl, offering her a hand. "Wanna join in?"

Heinrich

The night was just beginning, and Heinrich was antsy. He didn't like social events, hell, he didn't like people. One cramped room with everyone squished in like sardines in a can, trying to dance to whatever incessant "Musical" rhythm that whichever DJ had put on for them. The mere thought of being stuck in the same room with everyone else, was enough to make his skin crawl. It was maddening to him, trying to understand the protocol in the event of making niceties. He never knew when to be loud and energetic with the conversation or stern and serious about the subject matters; Previous attempts at friendship or interactions he would be called obnoxious or weird. He just didn't really know what to say, so he would end up usually secluded to himself. Heinrich didn't know any of these people, nor did any of them him for that matter.

That's when he heard her voice, pulling him from the mist that was his mind. Looking up from his shoes, he would stare back at her for a moment; The dazed looked on his face turning into a smile, his eye's focused on hers. She looked... Shocked, but with a happy shimmer in her eye. Using his hand to wipe the longer strands of hair from his face, he would respond with a slight laugh, "Had to get the hair cut, a couple of the twigs needed harsher methods to get out then just a brush or comb," chuckling he added, "The Barber had no idea what to do about the birds nest." The look on his face did not make it clear if it was a joke or not.

"Looks like things are just about to get started, probably should head on in there." Offering his arm to her. If It was with her he would be able to get passed talking to people, she made all that nonsense bearable.

Vivian

Heading into the dance Vivian was unusually ecstatic, her eyes lit up like party lights glowing in the darkness. The room was transformed from it's usual drab appearance, making way for a sort of elegance that was decorated in its place. Meghan looked positively adorable in her dress, even how she wore her tennies delighted Vivian. She gazed upon her with a look that had slowly developed over her features these past weeks; The bitter loathing she felt for most people would melt, and the hidden anger behind her eyes would be extinguished at this point. Only when she looked at Meghan, was her smile as genuine in affection as her loathing is for the rest of the world. Her focus of the night was already there, with their arms entwined with hers. Nothing there mattered as much to her in those moments, not even her incessant thoughts that plagued her mind.

The past weeks had been trialing to say the least, training Marie how to behave was a difficult task; Her screaming would eventually calm down after the nightmare runes were activated a couple times. It was conditioning that had to be done, and Marie really needed to realize her place in this equation. After finally getting control of her emotions, Vivian sought out to train her; Letting her know exactly what it was that she was created for. After the "Nightmare Conditioning" as Vivian called it, Marie was leagues more obedient even able to keep conversations to a point. With the Brain under control, Vivian's work and sleep schedules were back on track.

In this night Vivian was radiant in her happiness, it could even be called infectious in those moments. The dance was alive and so was she, grabbing a hold of Meghan to the dance floor as a particular song came over the speakers. Wrapping her arms around her date Vivian would beam down at Meghan; She may have never planned for it to go the way it did, but the Clairvoyant was finally hers.

Anna

Anna looked from Heinrich's hair to his suit, comparing him to the dishevelled boy from a couple weeks before. It was like a miracle. It must have taken real, serious magic to get him all suited up. She giggled. "I wish I'd seen the look on his face!" She squealed. Now that she was closer to him, she noticed that there was something satisfying about the height difference between the two shorties now. The heels must have brought her up around three or so inches, and she didn't have to crane her neck up as much to look at him. She looked at the offered arm and beamed. She took it, using both hands to hold on. Just in case the heels ended up being a bit too much once they actually got in.

She lead the way into the hall, knowing that Heinrich might not want to. When she looked at the floor, her heart jumped. She laughed aloud. "Geez, the floor's spooky!" She giggled, running the toe of her heel into the ground as if to make sure it was solid. She lifted her head, looking around the room. "Ooh, I think there's food over there!" She squealed. Still holding on tightly to his arm, the short sorceress trotted over to the tables. She let go of Heinrich's arm to pick up one of the paper plates, and started to put random things on it. She'd made a point of not eating too much the whole day, and now she was hungry. She put a random amount of whatever she could find on the plate.

Off towards the side of the room, by the open doors to the courtyard, a couple girls stood together, heads close together and mouths hidden behind hands. The only real similarities between them were that they were all in eleventh grade and were all very preppy. They glanced between Anna and Heinrich, alternating between listening, whispering and pointing. After a second they paused in their muttering, and then turned and rushed off into the middle of the dance floor.

Mia

The three sorceresses came to the punch table. Louise strode forward, pushing past other teens to pick up three red solo cups. Mia and Sarah followed, but didn't bother coming up close to the table, since Louise seemed to have it covered. The dark haired sorceress looked between the two punchbowls. She subtly smelt them both, and a delighted smile sprung on her face as she offered all three cups to the silver ladle that was pouring the drinks out from one of the bowls. She came back to her friends with the cups, and shoved one into both of their hands. "Drink up!" She whooped, throwing hers back. She laughed, and looked between Sarah and Mia. "Go on!"

Sarah stared at the solo cup in her hand. She held it under her nose, took a good smell, and recoiled. "No. Way." She scowled, stomping away in the direction of a trash can.
Mia mimicked her suitemate, and smelled the drink. She winced. "What's in this, Lou?" She hissed.
Louise shrugged. "Who cares?" She turned around and went back to get her cup refilled.
Mia stared into the red juice. She could hear Maxine's voice in her ear. Go on, Mia. You gotta live life on the edge! Mia shut her eyes tight against the hall and took a sip.

She smacked her lips together after a sharp wince. She dared to take another sip. It wasn't that bad, when she really thought about it. It was still mostly juice - at least, as far as she could tell, it was.
Sarah came back, empty handed. She sighed and crossed her arms. "Can't believe Louise tried to make us drink that," she growled. "Like, does she even care-" she stopped mid-sentence, seeing that Mia was still holding the drink. "What the hell, Mia?!"
Mia stared down at the floor, chewing on the inside of her cheek. "It's not really that bad," she mumbled.
Louise strode back over with another two cups. "I got you another drink, Say," she said, shoving another solo cup to the blonde. By the look on Sarah's face when she sniffed it, it was perfectly un-spiked. "Now! Dancing!" She cheered, and sauntered out towards the dance floor. Again, Mia and Sarah followed.

Nito

The cyromancer let his lover drag him wherever it is she wanted to go. Pictures, snacks, dancing, the works. It was completely worth it. Every single second of the socialization, the wasted practice hours, all of it. Eva was stunning, more beautiful than he had ever seen her, more than any budding woman had any real right to be. She had taken his breath away when he'd first glimpsed her, and that single, fleeting look from across the entrance hall had been enough. It wouldn't matter what tonight held in store. Just gazing upon her, let alone having her on his arm more than made up for it.

He honestly couldn't remember a single time in his life he had ever been this happy. Felt this warm. This...grounded.

It was a feeling he could get used to.

Of course, there was one or two nagging things. The smaller of the problems was the Russian pyromancer, stalking after him like always. In truth, he honestly didn't mind the attention, and she knew far too much for him to just...shoo her away. It was a minor inconvenience at best, as long as Natalia didn't try and impose on the two of them. A dance wouldn't be out of the question, a single turn about the ballroom, just to appease the love struck girl, but only if Eva said it was alright. This was their night, and he wouldn't be doing a single thing without his girlfriend's leave first.

But the other issue. The golden letter. Vitae et Mortem. The invitation. That gnawed at him, rolled his gut, and burned his heart. It was something he wished he could turn down but...things were expected of him. After what his Father had been. What his Father before him had been. What every male heir to the main Benedictous family had ever been where that group was concerned. Responsibility and duty. Tradition. They were the keystones of his lineage. Nit could not, would not, turn his back on things of that nature.

He just wished they hadn't tried to drag Eva into it with him. He'd make them pay, in one way or another.

Turning to his blushing, lovely paramour, Nito would plant a tender kiss on the corner of her jaw. "Would you like another dance, my love? Or would you prefer to rest awhile longer? We can even go outside for a spell, if you wish."

Ishade was in his room until after dark, he was writing in a diary he'd decided to keep. It was also a sketch pad, and last but not least, it was probably one of the few things he was proud of making. It was pretty cool to see and to flip the pages, look at the drawings, most of them plants and animals from his daily visits to the forests. He wasn't going to the dance, obviously. Ishade and large amounts of people didn't mix well. It wasn't that he didn't know how to dance, because he wasn't a bad dance, and he knew Eva was going. But she would want to spend the night with her boyfriend, and Gregori wouldn't be there... perhaps that Heinrich kid he'd stopped seeing at some point would go, but everyone who went, or almost everyone... had a date.

He was just going camping in the forest, on his own instead of with company. He had the hot chocolate and a sandwich, his bag ready, and he'd go outside in a bit to do some night time exploring, drink hot chocolate and perhaps practice a few spells.

Charlie
Charlie grinned as wide as she could as she interposed herself between Blake and Kenlei, swinging her arms around their shoulders for the first photo. Little changed for the second one, but later on in the week when the trio received got a chance to look at the photo they would see two her fingers rising over their heads.

Once the photos were over and done with, she grabs Blake and Kenlei by the arms and begins to hurriedly pull them to the sight of the ball, stopping for a split second to marvel at the sight (and the glowing statue because coooool!) before dragging them further into the fray.

Once they were far enough in that she let go over them, she spins on her feet in a move that would have been impossible in those silly shoes. Man was she glad she chose the right footwear!

“So what now?!” She calls out over the sound of the general hubbub and the music of the place. She couldn’t see where the food was kept, and was hoping one of the other two might. She was also somewhat dreading having to dance, as when it came down to structured movements like that she was... less than capable, let’s say.

Max
Max was having a pretty dang fun time! It hadn’t been long since he had guided Monique to the side of the dancing people, making sure that the tired girl wasn’t jostled or bumped. It was only recently, however, that she persuaded him to leave and go have fun on his own.

So he left, not without some whining protestations, but he did make sure to at lease leave her with his friends. Harrison was good for making sure nobody fucked with him.

Swiftly finding himself caught up in th fever of the dancefloor, he only really came to while dancing with a girl that had accepted his invitation to a dance with astounding politeness.

“I’ve seen you around before! What’s your name!?” He shouts over the sound of the music and crowd, grinning at his partner as the two of them danced to the fast paced beat of the current song.

Sophie

The young girl blinked in surprise as Jera grabbed the obviously spiked punch and quickly made a lighter version of the drink. Just like that. The brunette could hardly stand the smell and she highly doubted the taste would be at all appealing to her, either. Looking down at her own punch she took another small sip, body moving just a little, though not at all in time to the beat of the music. As her arm was tugged she ditched the fruity drink on the table, allowing herself to be pulled onto the dance floor by her two friends.

Her face lit up, laughter showing as she scrunched up her eyes and she nodded. "Yeah!" Eagerly she'd follow the other two girls onto a spot on the dance floor easily able to find a place that wouldn't cause them to jostle anyone in the crowd. The room wasn't so crowded that it was uncomfortable and it didn't feel too spacious that it would seem lame. Everything was just... perfect.

Blake

Was he blushing at the compliment from Kenlei? Probably. Even if he'd had the same thought about his jacket when he'd gotten dressed that afternoon. However, once they stepped inside after their pictures food was the first thought of the young teenager male. Need sustenance! Still, he took a moment to gaze about the room, taking particular interest in observing the girls in their pretty dresses. "This way!" He'd answer Charlie's question, guiding both girls by the small of their backs to one of the long tables along the wall. Punch and food! He sniffed at one of the punch bowls, "Woo. Someone is trying to have fun tonight." The scent was strong and he was honestly surprised it hadn't been caught by a professor yet. "Food and drinks, then..." He wiggled his hips in a totally exaggerated way, mouth twisting up into a smirk. "Dancing, maybe?" Maybe he wouldn't be the best dancer on the floor, but he was determined to have fun at his first high school dance.

Eva

For the most part, the Italian was having fun. Nito hadn't complained no matter how much she dragged him around from place to place within the decorated room. Her feet had already started to ache, but honestly she didn't mind at all. She was here, dancing and snacking and laughing, with her boyfriend. Max and Monique had even stopped by, Eva's best friend looking gorgeous. It didn't matter what they did, though, every time she turned around... Natalia was not far off. She would be speaking to friends, or laughing, or taking a sip of a drink or mingling... but she was never far from the couple and Eva found it... annoying, at minimum.

She'd taken a few minutes to get off her feet, though, so she wouldn't tire out before the night was through.

Considering Nito's question, she slid her hand into his. The redheaded nightmare was twirled by, currently in the arms of Max and Eva smiled. "Let's take a breather, outside." She wouldn't mind a bit of the cool winter air. It was getting warm inside between the people and the dancing.

Meghan

Meghan's eyes widened and she let out a startled "oof" as she was dragged onto the dance floor by her date. There were no complaints, though. Instead, she allowed her arms to wind around the other girl, gently, and let Vivian lead her in the music. Megan is... actually a terrible dancer, so there's a lot of laughing and playful dancing rather than any real attempt, but she was having fun and it looked like Vivian was enjoying herself so she didn't let herself worry about it, too much.

Song after song after song the couple would dance together. Slow songs, fast songs, and everything in between. Meghan found she was grateful for the experience, for a night of fun with a girl she enjoyed spending time with. She got caught up in the moment and would lean forward, pressing her lips to Vivian while the other girl was mid-sentence.

Natalia

There were a couple moments where Natalia had lost track of Nito, but they hadn't lasted long. Eva kept him busy, though, forcing the cyromancer into pictures, and snacks, and dancing. So much dancing. The whole thing burned Natalia as she longed to free her love. She had to be patient, though. So, she waited. Watching from the distance as she chatted with casual acquaintances and found her own snacks. Eva had found a chair to sit in, her feet extended as the other girl rolled her ankles. Taking a rest. Now was as good a time as any to try and swing a dance with Nito, she'd simply have to plan it jus...

Her thought process was interrupted by Maximiliano. He was in the same grade as Nito and fairly popular, from what the redhead understood. He seemed to be a little drunk, cheeks reddened and a large smile extending across his features. It seemed he'd taken a large part in the punch that she'd dipped a bottle of Russian Vodka into.

Eva had yet to touch the stuff, unfortunately. But there was still time.

His approach was casual and surprising and the Russian had no choice but to politely accept his offer at a dance and a moment later she found herself moving to the beat and being twirled around the dance floor, unable to keep track of where Nito had gone. "Natalia," she shouted back, leaning forward a bit so he could hear her. "You're Max, right?"

---

Brandon had come to the party with a few of his friends, none of them having a date. A few of them, like him, had been unable to find the courage to ask anyone to go as a date and so they'd end up with a group of the guys, which had been fun for the first thirty minutes. They joked about their friends with steady girlfriend's being whipped for the amount of effort they'd put into making this dance nice, though Brandon knew if he'd been able to go with the girl he liked, he probably would have done the same.

As it was, he had on a nice sports jacket, his nice pair (yes, he only has one) of jeans, and a pair of dress shoes. Minimal effort. Still, when he caught her walking into the room with her roommate and suitemate, Brandon found himself wishing he'd tried a little harder.

The three girls were at the punch table and, having had a bit of the punch himself, the dark haired teenager found some liquid courage. It wasn't too late; the night was young, after all. "I'll be back," he murmured to his nearest friend and with an unusual amount of swagger, he approached the girls... just as they sauntered off onto the dance floor. Shit.

Still, he was determined to do this now and so he followed, calling her name as he did and hoping it would be loud enough to get her attention. "Mia!"

Caution thrown to the wind, Jera rolled her eyes at Sophie and thrusts her drink towards the girl, careful not to spill, but in a bit of a rush. The lightly spiked liquid sloshed in the glass, coming close to spilling over the rim and the raven haired girl laughed. She took a step back when she was sure Sophie had a good hold on her cup, eyes wild and grin wicked as she started stepping to the beat of the music, hips swaying and with her hair and dress following the movements. A quick glance around showed her none of the teachers were watching, good, she didn't exactly stay completely appropriate while she was dancing. Jera let out a deep breath then, lightly colored lips curling as she let her eyes go slightly unfocused, mind focused on the music itself instead of her surroundings. She threw an arm out one way as if reaching for something, her opposite foot sliding back for her to shift her weight onto and twirl, coming out of the spin facing the other way. Her steps are light, even in her short heels. Movements graceful as she spins and twirls, body showing the story the song tells with movement and expression.

She's always loved dancing, the movement, the feeling of flowing with the music like it's coming from her. It's an excitement for her, something she wouldn't trade for the world. She's half tempted to bring her wand out at this point, summon the wind that would make her movements even more graceful, giving them a magical aid that she loved to toy with. As Jera continued her dance, she turned her attention back to her suite mates, eyes sparkling with joy as she lifted a beckoning hand to them.

"Join me?" She asked in that fragile sounding voice, thin black brow arched in question and lips quirked. She was having a blast, and she wanted the other girls to as well. A party wasn't made with one person after all. She was so happy that Hazel had finally relaxed, but it seemed Sophie had taken on the closed off persona, just a bit though. She wanted both girls to have a blast, Maybe get a little buzzed and possibly a little in trouble with the teachers. How else would they gauge the level of fun? They'd have to get in trouble at some point, for heaven's sake, the punch had already been spiked! The young sorceress was buzzing with excitement, pausing her movements to steal her drink back and take another long drag, the cup down to it's last forth at this point and Jera's loose manner confirming it.

'Just enough for a little fun. This is all you need.' Her mind whispered, and Jera agreed. She would only be having the pink glasses for the rest of the night. This light buzz was more than enough.

Mia

Louise lead the group into the dance floor, finding a space that wasn't too cramped up. "Here's good," she decided, starting to move around a little with the beat. As much as her legs were moving, steady side-to-side steps, her arms were mostly still, the drink in her cup lapping around just a little.
Mia and Sarah stood there, like the statues in specialisation class. After a couple of sips - maybe it was just placebo, maybe it was Louise's jeering, or maybe it actually was the drink - Mia could feel herself loosening up. She moved and swayed to the music, and as she started, so did Sarah. There was a laugh from the friend group as a whole as the three of them started to get more and more into it.

The music got faster and louder, and at it's peak Louise forgot herself and threw her arms in the air. The movement sent the alcohol in her cup flying behind her. Thankfully, the drink landed only on the floor, a couple drops maybe splashing up and landing on someone's leg or dress. Louise dropped her arms, staring into the empty cup. "Damn it," she muttered. "Come get another drink with me?" She asked no one in particular, and started to saunter off the dance floor. Sarah sighed and followed after her. Mia was a second later in reacting, and as she turned to go, she spotted Brandon approaching.

She didn't really know him that well. A conversation here or there was the most she'd spoken to him, but he seemed friendly enough. She smiled as he got closer. "Hey, Brandon!" She said. She mentally took a note of the punch in his hand, though she didn't really have a way of knowing if it was alcoholic or not. "How are you? Isn't this great?" She laughed as she took a sip of her spiked drink. The more she drank, the less she noticed the alcohol taste.

Kenlei

The pretty, petite blonde freshman was absolutely enchanted with just about everything as they stepped into the high-ceilinged room. She clasped her hands together under her chin for a moment of just looking sparkles at everything! "Look at that!" she pointed. "And that!" she pointed again. "This is the most magical evening ever!" She grabbed the hands of both her companions and she squeezed and shook them until she finally had to let go for fear of hurting them too much with her excitement.

She allowed Blake to guide her to the food tables, and she placed one cookie on a plate with a few carrot sticks and some chips and dip. Then she ladeled some of the spiked punch into a cup with a sheepish shrug for her companions. "Might as well try it, right?" That was until a few of her other friends approached.

"Hey Ken-LEI," stated as if overly emphasizing the second syllable of her name was some sort of insult.

"Hi, Julianna," Kenlei responded, lifting the cup to her lips. She would not respond so pettily in kind. At least not yet. "I like your dr--"

"Why'd you stand up Landon? He waited for you at our dorm for like ten minutes."

"Well, I didn't stand him up, Julian-NA," aaaaand there it was, "because I never agreed to go to the dance with him. Perhaps you and Landon should get your heads out of your behinds and actually liste--" she cut off on a gasp as Julianna leaned forward and smacked her hand into Kenlei's cup causing it to smash in her fist and splash blood-red punch all over her dress.

Max
Max was pretty pleased she remembered his name, spinning together with his new dancing partner just as the song came to an end, allowing him to be able to speak just a bit quieter in between songs as people shuffled off of and onto the dance floor. "Yep!" He finally answers as the two slow down, looking at each other for a second before Natalia's eyes seem to wander off, looking for something. Most likely someone.

A feeling of... mild embarrassment welled up in Max as he realised he may have just asked someone else’s date for a dance without even making sure they were cool with it. In fact, she almost certainly had one. Was pretty enough. Rubbing the back of his head, he felt he had to apologise. "Hey uh, sorry if I stole you away from whoever your date was. Probably should have made sure they were cool with it first, huh? Man, I think whoever spiked that punch put more than I thought into it."

Glancing back, off of the dancefloor, he notices Monique conversing with a few of her friends. Noticing his gaze, she sends a small wave and a shooing motion, smiling at him as he nkds and turns back towards the dancefloor. She seemed to be enjoying herself.

The music started up again, the song cheery and upbeat, and Max offered his hand to Natalia. "Again? No problem if you don't want to." He says, smiling at her as people around them started to get back into the groove. He was pretty sure he could solo this if he had to (And magic was always an option).

Charlie
Charlie watched the display as Kenlei and the other uh... girls talked, annoyance growing quite rapidly throughout the short conversation as the two forces clashed. She wasn't exactly good at talking to people, but really she didn't need to. A shared glance with Blake solidified her opinion, so when the lead girl ended up splashing her best friend and ruining the dress she liked, Charlie was ready to show exactly why she wasn't popular.

A dozen small, extremely iced cakes flew towards the gaggle of girls as Charlie hurls them, using the tray like a catapult. Following that, the tall girl slid past her smaller friend and barged directly into Julianna, knocking her over onto the floor and following her down as the girl screeched in surprise. Charlie reared back from where she had been on top of the girl, straddling her as she spat out the rich blue cloth of Julianna's dress, a large strip of it ruined.

In a surprising moment of clarity, Charlie reaches her arm up onto the table and swipes it across, towards her and the lead girl as foodstuff and drinks collapse onto them, staining the lower half of Charlie's dress and covering Julianna. With that done, she looks up at the shocked gaggle of girls from where she was straddling Julianna, a feral snarl on her face.

Blake

He was enjoying himself with his two new friends, both girls stunning in their dresses. He was busy picking up little bits of food to pile on his too small plate when he heard Julianna approach Kenlei. He didn't have to be a girl to hear the attitude, the judgement, and he turned, ready to say something on behalf of Kenlei not that she needed it. She was holding her own just fine but he was there to back her u--.

Suddenly there was punch everywhere and flying cakes and then there was a flash of red as Charlie lunged forward at the other girl. Already they had a teacher's attention, two of them heading their way. Blake lunged forward, arms tucking under Charlie's arm pits to yank her off the other girl. It would be their word against the other girls there, but Blake had always been a smooth talker. He'd carefully set the redhead next to his punch covered friend, checking them both up and down to make sure they were alright.

Brandon

He smiled in return, kind and shy. "Hey. Yeah, it's... impressive. Every year I'm surprised by how well they transform the same place we eat meals in every day. He'd move a little closer, so he wouldn't have to yell as much. "Enjoying yourself?" His hand going to the back of his neck, rubbing it a little awkwardly.

Natalia

The redhead's eyes were consistently looking, searching. Especially now that she was losing sight of... There, he was. Heading outside. She'd turn her attention back to Max, an apologetic smile on her face. She was usually overlooked, so she appreciated that he'd asked her to dance and.... assumed she had a date. "Oh, no. I don't have a date. You were fine, and such a wonderful dancer." She'd beam, bright and happy. So normal. "I really appreciate you asking me."

His request at a second dance took her by surprise and she shifted her feet. "Uh, yeah. Sure. One more." At least now she knew to keep her eyes on the outside, watching for Nito and that witch to return inside. Brilliant green eyes met Max's, sparkling with delight as she took his hand once more. "Lead the way!"

Kenlei

A squeal came from Kenlei as a flash of Charlie's red hair sped in front of her, nearly knocking her out of the way. She skittered back, the smashed plastic cup forgotten in her hand as she watched, astounded that Charlie would literally attack the popular girls for her. She cut her eyes to Blake, a panicked expression on her face. "Do something, Blake!" When he bent and grabbed hold of Charlie under the arms, she went around to face her friend and smoothed her hands down Charlie's hair. "There, there. It's okay. I'm okay." Then she wrapped Charlie's disgustingly food-covered form in her arms and just hugged her. Her short arms reached back to include Blake in the hug. "You guys are the best! The very, very best!"

Julianna managed to get herself up with the help of her friends and shriek, "You have a monster for a friend, Kenlei Crisp. What happened to you? Don't bother eating lunch with us again!"

Kenlei turned her head and smiled at Julianna, "I haven't eaten lunch with you in days, Julianna, which goes back to what I was saying earlier about pulling your head out of your ass and paying attention to what's happening around you." Turning her head back to snuggle against Charlie and Blake some more, Kenlei effectively both dismissed and shunned Julianna and her former friends.

Mia

“It’s like, taking one of the most boring rooms in the school and spinning it on its head,” she said with a thoughtful nod, gazing around the ambient hall. She brought her eyes back to Brandon, smiling just the same.

The question gave her pause. It seemed innocent enough, but the thought of Maxine hovered over her. Brandon wasn’t trying to catch her out, she knew that. He had a heart, a big one as far as she could tell. If it was anyone else, she would’ve gotten upset. Without really thinking, she rubbed her hand over her chest. “I guess,” she said, though her voice was like a mumble under the sound of the pounding music. “I’m trying to, at least. I know, it sounds horrible, but I think she would want me to have a good time. Max, I mean. She loved the school dances, so, I’m wanting to have fun in her stead.” She lifted her head and gave a gentle smile.

She cleared her throat and drank from her cup. “What about you? Having fun?” She asked, lifting her voice above the music.

Heinrich

The room was... oddly cool, Heinrich had not expected such a transformation. Her giggling at the floor only made his smile grow, he was glad he wasn't the only one surprised. Not knowing himself where to go first, he welcomed the pulling arms of the shorter sorceress; At least she knew where she wanted to go, and thank the stars it was to food. Heinrich had no time to get anything to eat all day, and he was famished. Following suit he would quickly grab a plated, piling everything that looked good. Their plates looked like mountains with all the food they were piling on, he himself ignoring anyone's glances and whispering.

After finding a suitable table to sit and eat he would begin gorging himself, as politely as he could with present company. Heinrich would seemingly cover himself with napkins, not wanting to ruin his suit and ensemble. While eating he would join in any conversation to be had with Anna, occasionally gazing up to the courtyard and its longing calls to him. The outside looked more inviting than ever with everyone at school seemingly in the same room as them. He turned his focus back to the small sorceress, asking if she would like to partake in any of the dance. He wasn't really any good at it, but if she wanted to he wouldn't decline; His only request, being able to take the napkins off his suit before they do.

Vivian

The night was magical for Vivian, she didn't have to really think about anything; Just feeling the night as it went, where she didn't necessarily have to. It was a welcomed change of pace, even if only for the night. Meghan was a completely horrid dancer, but her perseverance to have a good time regardless of her 'Moves' only added to her adorableness. Vivian danced however her date would, matching her moves with her own whether the rhythm be fast or slow.

They danced like this for quite a few songs, changing their moves with the pace of the music. There was a wide variety of tunes to dance to, and the band even seemed to accept requests written in by students going up the stage-within reason of course-. While attempting to teach Meghan during a slow dance and how one would Step in such a dance, the other would cut Vivian off with a kiss. Vivian's surprise would only last a moment, quickly returning the affection; Playfully scolding the other afterwards for interrupting the lesson. Ultimately unable to keep her stern appearance for long, Vivian would eventually smile and giggle. They continued like this for some time before Vivian would need to take a small breather, she would offer a choice to Meghan for either outside in the courtyard or at a table to cool off.

Meghan

The shy brunette found that she enjoyed slow dancing best. Even though she was completely horrid, having Vivian's arms around her keeping her close with the sound of the music in the background and being able to hear Vivian's heart beat, it was nice. Slow dancing is like cuddling, just with... movement.

It was also nice to see her roommate enjoy herself. Meghan rarely caught a smile on the other girl's features and here she was dancing, and poking fun, and giggling. It filled her heart with such warmth and joy and made her stomach flutter. At Vivian's request that they take a break, she'd offer her a date a playful pout and make a comment about being embarrassed for being seen on the dance floor (not that she'd really blame her if that were the case), but ultimately she really did need a minute off her feet so she'd happily agree. "How about that table?" She'd point a few feet away where a small table that could, at most, seat four, waited. It was clean, empty of dirty cups, and most importantly the chairs were empty and waiting. As long as Vivian agreed, Meghan would shyly intertwine her fingers through Vivian's and lead the way.

All through the night Meghan had constantly bumped shoulders with her classmates, been accidentally jostled, brushed past, or touched random students throughout the evening. Flashes of images, premonitions, had been flickering in her mind all evening. Some of it had been a bit darker, though she couldn't make out the details, and others images were warm and happy and others... well, honestly, Meghan had seen some incredibly personal things that would make even a star of an adult movie blush. Touching Vivian, though, Meghan got... nothing. There was no twitch in her subconscious, no inkling, no flash of an image, not even a vague idea. It was strange, but Meghan wasn't too inclined to examine that further. Instead, she'd quietly drop into an empty chair and kick her feet forward with a happy sigh. "Having a good time, Viv?"

Brandon

He suddenly felt like a huge ass. He'd forgotten that Maxine had lived in Mia's dorm and that the two had been close friends. Of course the missing roommate would be on her mind, even now. His warm smile would turn worried and properly abashed, eyes dropping to the floor. "Shit, I'm sorry. I'm... an ass and pretty good at putting my foot in my mouth."

Brandon, too, would take a small sip from his drink, seeking some more liquid courage. When he next looked up at the earth sorceress, looking slightly embarrassed, he'd give Mia a little nod. "It's been an alright night," gesturing to the group of friends he'd come with--all of them failing miserably at looking like they aren't watching Brandon right now--he'd move closer to her in order to be heard over the music. "Could have been better, though. Hanging with friends isn't so bad, but I came with those goofballs because I was too dumb, too shy to ask the girl I'm crushing on to come with me." His heart was pounding and he could feel beads of sweat forming on his lower back. Facing Professor Loray was less terrifying than this, but he'd already started. He'd offer her a nervous smile and drink the last of his drink, ditching his cup on one of the floating trays that passed by. Clearing his throat and swallowing anxiously, he would offer Mia a hand. "But, the night is still young and not too late to rectify my mistake." He'd even manage to meet her eyes, which was a miracle in of itself. "Mia, would you do me the pleasure of sharing a dance with me?" This speech that he had been preparing for over half the night had been delivered with more confidence than he'd expected and way more confidence than he felt. A goofy smile would follow his request and as his nerves caught up with him he'd add, "Please?"

Sophie

Sophie giggled while watching Jera sway and twirl to the music. Her enthusiasm was infectious and hard to ignore. Everyone around them was smiling (save for the young couple arguing, but that was par for the course at a high school dance, no?). It felt silly to think it, but it was the only word she could think to describe how this evening was turning out: everything about this night was truly magical (in both the literal and figurative sense of the word).

She'd hold the other teenagers drink while she showed off her dance moves, Sophie watching with bright and shiny eyes and nodding along to the music. She was so glad that they had all three decided to attend the dance. Still, she was glad to hand over the lightly spiked punch when Jera reached for it; Sophie is not the most graceful and she had a feeling that dancing with an open container of liquid was simply a recipe for disaster.

As soon as the punch had been relieved from her hands, the ninth grader would move forward onto the dance floor, complying with Jera's request to join her. The beat would pick up almost at the same time, the song that played next better suited for group dancing and at a fast pace. As more people surged onto the dance floor, Sophie would excitedly grab the wrists of her two companions and tug them further into the thick of it all, letting out a carefree laugh as she did.

Eva

It was nice to take a break from the dancing and the laughing and the constant trying to be heard over the music. Her cheeks were red from the warmth from dancing and general happiness. The best thing about the whole evening, though, was that Nito seemed to be enjoying himself. Normally when they were in social situations he was only there for her, which was also nice, but she felt like he thought his time might be better spent elsewhere. Tonight, though, he seemed to be here with her. It made the night perfect.

Their time outside was short lived, though, because being struck with the sudden cold, Eva was also struck with the realization that she needed to pee. When she could wait no longer, she'd kiss Nito's cheek and explain she needed to use the restroom so she could head inside. He'd follow close behind, waiting not too far from the exit where she disappeared to find the nearest bathroom.

Natalia

While the redhead was paying attention to Max and to the steps of the dance (she could say with some arrogance that she was a pretty talented dancer) and while she could hold a seemingly animated and engaging conversation with the popular boy, Natalia was still focused on one thing. The object of her affection.

When Eva re-emerged back into the dance hall, Nito not too far behind, Natalia's green eyes had followed and when Eva disappeared leaving Nito alone? Natalia would break away from her dance partner. "Sorry," was the only explanation she could offer Max before rushing off to where Nito was standing. Now ws her moment. On the fast paced walk over, she'd make sure her hair was still in placee. As she neared the fair skinned male, she'd slow down to a stop. Taking a moment to adjust her dress (gotta make sure the boobs look good, okay) and then she'd approach from behind, gently clearing her throat to get his attention. "Having a good night?" Sh would be unable to control the delighted smile that would grace her visage at being in his presence. The redhead was waiting, patiently, for the fast paced song to end. Her pick of the night was scheduled to come up right after. She was listening to the bat, carefully listening for the approach of the end of the song. When it was nearing, she'd duck her head, offering Nito a (well practiced) demure smile. "I was... wondering if, as friends, we could share one dance?" It's even an upbeat song! It could hardly be more platonic. How could he refuse? Natalia would look at Nito, so hopeful.

Truth was, she had no intentions of being anything but friendly. Her mother's letter that had arrived that morning was incredibly clear on what she wanted Nat to do next. The entire game plan had changed and she kind of wished she'd listened to her mom sooner. Surely this would work.

Anna

The shortie almost fell a few times as she was walking from the buffet to the table, but she recovered every time and eventually landed on the seat. She dropped her paper plate on the table with a sigh and wiggled her toes inside the sandals. They were, like, ten minutes into the night, and her feet were already hurting, even though her sister had promised that they were 'comfy, and all-around great'. She started at her plate, eyes skitting over all the different things she'd picked up at random. She hadn't really looked at what she'd got until now - she'd never been very picky with food - so now it was just a whole lot of random stuff. She used both hands to handle a slice of pepperoni pizza, very narrowly avoiding splashing grease down her front.

Even though she was hungry, she was careful to not eat too much. If she did, then she might get sick while dancing, and she knew she was going to dance, even if she had to do it alone. Just as she had this thought, she lifted her head from her half-finished plate to see Heinrich saying something. She had to get him to repeat it over the music, and once she got it her face lit up. "Can we?" She asked like an excited kid. At Heinrich's answer, she got up, taking what was left on her plate and dumping it in a nearby bin. She was comfortably full - not hungry, but not having eaten so much that too much movement would make her wanna puke. She walked back to Heinrich, smiling even though she was trying to look composed.

At his lead, once all the napkins were off, they would head onto the floor. Anna was into the beat almost immediately. She'd been to every school party since ninth grade, so she was used to getting into the groove. The dance floor was crowded, and Anna kept herself close to Heinrich so that they wouldn't end up separated. She thought that he might find it a bit difficult to get into it himself, so she interlaced her fingers with his. "You just gotta be loose!" She shouted over the music.

Mia

Mia watched Brandon's fumbled apology, and then responded with one of her own. "No, no, don't worry about it," she said kindly. She rubbed comfortingly on his arm, "you just forgot. Alcohol is supposed to make your thoughts a bit more muddled." She laughed, moving her hand back to her side. She'd thankfully been able to keep the pain out of her voice.

She looked around the hall when he gestured to his friends. She spotted one guy looking at him, then another. They all seemed to look away when she met their gaze. Whatever she was thinking, it wasn't clear on her face as she took a tentative sip of her drink and turned her attention back to Brandon with a pleasant smile.

Mia caught onto what was happening as soon as a girl was mentioned. Her face flushed and she drank from her cup while trying to think of what she could do. He was a nice guy, sweet and well meaning. But god, she was going to break his heart if she didn't think quick. She could still dance with him, right? Chris wouldn't mind. She would have to tell Brandon the truth eventually, because not doing that would just be the worst thing.

She came to her conclusion just as he did. She smiled, careful to not make it look too eager. "Sure!" She said. She finished her drink and sat it on one of the trays. She took his hand, and was very careful about how she held on. She was sure to not be tight and close, leaving room between them, but also made it as friendly as she could. It was as platonic as she could muster, but now that she was committed, she was maybe starting to think if she had made the wrong decision. Why were relationships so difficult?
