NAME: Luna Castiglione
AGE: 23
ORIENTATION: Cleric of the Monastic Order, Daughter of the Castiglione family, owners of Julia's Berries
BACKSTORY: Luna joined the Monastic Order when she was young as part of the financial arrangement Lutetia's elite had with the region's farmers. As part of the farmers' service to society and the grateful upper class, education was made available at the Monastic Order for the children of the more reputable agribusiness owners. Her father, Leon Castiglione of Julia's Berries, had Luna move to Lutetia City to take up her vows and dedicate herself to her studies to grow up under the Lutetian Urban influence and with the ideals of the Monastery and Selene.
Her education at the Monastery taught her the core values of the Monastic Order, the virtues of the Paladin, the Cleric, and the Proselyte, the history of their faction and of the land, knowledge of the magics and forces at play in their world, and unbeknownst to anyone, even Luna, the society of Lutetia City. Visiting her family, learning alongside other Proselytes, and finding herself in the city, Luna developed an internal conflict between these differing societies and their values. In this, she sought guidance in the struggles of Selene and the friendship in her communities and found only more confusion. She grew seeing the danger supernatural beings within the city faced and held for their society and struggled to find ways to convince those she lived with that the Order held their best interests despite the conflicting values. She grew holding the Monastic Order as the most just and righteous force in the land, yet struggled with the necessity of death and paranoia which seemed inherent in their life. In herself, she began a search for knowledge and clarity which the world about her could not offer.
In this, Luna closed herself off to others and vigorously explored all sacred texts available, took apart her assigned coursework more thoroughly than the monks cared for, and took to witnessing forms of magic both embraced and despised by the Order. She began to create her own works, theories and discoveries which she made during her research, and found that there were basic laws which had become obscured and convoluted over the ages. Luna met with her classmates and tested her theories, pitting innocent questions against the texts they were working at and finding her work validated through a more benign logic. In her final years of Proselyte education, she became a kind of monster, absorbing and destroying knowledge as fluidly as one breathed air, turning all those around her into storehouses of unseen truth.
Armed with this new power of epistemology, Luna sought to once again convince others of a peace which had been the holy point of her endeavors. She was years older now, a city woman, a refined intellectual, the daughter of a wealthy farmer. Her new theories, which she had hoped to use in order to persuade her city friends, horribly backfired. In the heat of discussion with a werewolf Luna held as a wise figure in her urban community, Dr. Castein, the mixing of magic with verse resulted in the purification of her friend, a dissolution of his magical energy. In establishing her power over Castein's, his heart stopped and all energy ceased within his body. Luna, in horror, fled to the authorities to seek help for the situation. Instead of rectifying an undoing her action, her abilities were acclaimed for forcing dead a werewolf. In response, she lashed out, trying a violent attempt at Necromancy with the intention of attacking the soldiers. Her attempt, however, was desperate and weak following the death of Castein, and she was detained and brought before the Order for judgement. After deliberating upon Luna's position as a daughter of the Castiglione family and a report that she had learned magic separate from her teachings within the city, it was decided that she would be served an Order of Submission, requesting her participation in a ritual which would impress upon her being the power of the Monastic Order and remove all which conflicted with their teachings from her spiritual infrastructure. Luna, in shock from her actions, participated willingly, desperate for the clarity she had known under Selene's will.
The men and women who had taught Luna more than what they knew gathered together and, in the form of a spiritual ritual done in an undisclosed location within their headquarters, took the frame of her being and burned into it the teachings of the Order, cleared away all things which obstructed or replaced their will within her and impressed upon her the absoluteness of their laws. She did not resist, but resisted nonetheless, and found her sense of being torn apart and vague in the face of everything she had been taught since becoming a Proselyte. Once the ritual was complete, they were assured that Luna had been preserved as the prime student they had known her as and detected no trace of wild energy within her body. They returned her to the school once she recovered from the shock of those events to finish her studies and continue her assumed journey to Priesthood as a Cleric. She faltered for a week, her grades suffered, and she spoke to no one. Then, without warning, Luna had returned and with ease, finished her studies and begun her expected collection of works which would certify her for a higher class of Clerical work than someone so young would expect. She works on this now, under the watch of numerous monks from Lutetia City and beyond.
APPEARANCE: 14 y/o (prior to departure for Lutetia City)
23 y/o (Pre-Cleric, Proselyte)
SKILLS:
Magic of the Mediator
- As a result of her studies, Luna has developed a magical technique for tracing the magic flow of spiritual incantation in individuals and in the world around her. In other words, Luna has developed a magical technique for giving raw magical power to words in herself and others as they are valid within the subject person. While she primarily uses this as a method of defense in a non-visible way, this also allows her to create physical forms with the power of speech, creating extensions of herself which she typically manifests as weapons or tools. In light of her Order of Submission, this power is greatly affected by her self-understanding through the will of Selene.
Art of Selene
- The Monastic Order, to those who vie for more peaceful roles, offers education on the healing and restorative arts. Luna has learned both mortal and magical ways to undo mortal and magical wounds. This skill is only slightly affected by her Order of Submission, which impedes her ability to use deviant methods of healing.
Street Smarts
-Despite being served an Order of Submission, a significant part of Luna's experiences and understandings are influenced by her time with Lutetia City's underworld. Having forced herself to witness the more grotesque and brutal sides of society, Luna has developed a sense of Lutetia City's streets that give her an affinity for the denizens of the dark and the more lively lifestyle that comes with it. The long-standing alleys and backdoors which have saved many an innocent bystander from being victim to a random street sweep are hardly secrets to her. If she finds herself within a place where the city folk live, she can identify the likely places of potential outs when she enters an area in the event that a need arises for exit. However, this does not work retroactively; if she is caught ill-prepared, Luna's ability to piece out exits becomes impeded. This skill is only slightly affected by her Order of Submission, which impedes her ability to perceive these exits by reflex.
