The Lessard Family Estate had seen better days, and had clearly fallen into a state of neglect. The gardens had become so overgrown with weeds that they appeared as little more than gnarled underbrush. The nearby orchard was equally as overrun by rampant weeds kept sparse only by the large walnut trees that blotted out the sunlight from reaching the ground. Beyond the stone hedges of the estate gardens could be seen the heights of the Lessard Manor House.

Even in its current state it had a sort of old beauty to it though. There was history in those stones, history that spanned the generations until it had simply faded away into a memory. Ivy grew up the walls, creeping and edging its way through the cracks in the stone and entwining itself in the lattice windows, and wildflowers grew among the oriental plants that had become overtaken by the encroaching forest.

There was something akin to sadness upon Sanina's face to see the grounds in such disarray, but the knowledge that those responsible would soon feel the sting of reprisal was a cooling salve upon old wounds.

"Come now, we part ways," she crooned to the others as she gestured for the children to join her.

"'nina, 'nina', can we go play?" Sarah asked as she tugged on Sanina's hand.

"Of course my dears," Sanina crooned lightly. "This is our home now."

She knelt down and passed the small bundle in her arms to Sarah.

"Be a dear and take Jezebell with you?" she asked.

"Yes 'nina," Sarah said as she hugged the decrepit remains of the bundled infant as if it were a favorite doll.

As Sanina stood back up, Sarah grabbed Valentina's hand to pull her along. "Come on, come on," she said excitedly.

Arien stood on the edge of the gardens with his arms folded and a decidedly unimpressed look on his face. This was what they'd travelled across half the world for? It was scarcely any better than the manor back in Westeria, and that had burned down.

The teenager kicked at a weed in idle frustration, sighing moodily (for the billionth time since leaving). "Well, it certainly has a lot of ... character." he muttered dryly, at what he thought was a low enough volume that Sanina wouldn't catch it. At a higher volume, he asked, "Where exactly is this House Sylvester, anyway? I somehow doubt they have an immigration office for vampires marked on the tourist pamphlet."

Arien pulled out a small, folded booklet decorated with what he guessed was a pathetic attempt to make Lutetia's streets look cheerful and inviting emblazoned on the front. He'd found the leaflet discarded on the ground at the docks, and been amused enough by the concept of someone visiting this shitstain of a country for fun that he'd picked it up.

"Come see the violent gang warfare, and marvel at the cult-like fanaticism of the church! Vampire flaying at dawn every friday night, don't miss it!" he announced in his best tour-guide voice. "If you look to your left, you'll see some helpless orphans being mauled by werewolves. To your right, a sixty-storey skyscraper constructed entirely from the broken dreams of local citizens."

To say she felt like a fish out of water was putting how Valentina truly felt lightly. The entire voyage over to the unfamiliar land in addition to the walk was met with her silence. For a brief moment, the little Vampire thought about just heading back, but knew it was no longer safe there for her. Still, how safe would she be here? She loathed Varia, barely knew Arien and Sanina, and well, truthfully barely knew Viktor and Talyria, though she felt completely safe around them. Sighing as she glanced around where they were going to be staying, she frowned and poked at the weeds, ignoring Arien as much as possible. Hopefully she wouldn’t be expected to pull weeds. Her real mother used to make her do that and she hated it immensely. Frowning almost instantly at the thought of not just her real parents, but Lily, she bit hard on her bottom lip.

She wasn’t thrilled that they were parting ways and she was staying behind with Sanina and the girls, but, she wasn’t going to press it, not yet at least. Sighing, she peered over at the small bundle, still skivvied out by the notion of how they were treating it before she allowed Sarah to grab her hand and tug her along to go play. Play with what, weeds? What if there were snakes? Great, now she was worried about snakes. What else could go wrong? Finally deciding it wasn’t worth moping, she smiled and nodded at Sarah.

“Okay! Play what though?” Maybe it was time to be a kid.

The faded opulence of a manor brought a pensive cast to Riaze' mind as he cast a slow, steady regard across the grounds. A snort escaped him, as thoughts of seeing it after Sanina breathed life into the corpse of the old estate struck ironic chords in his mind. Murmuring under his breath, the words nearly sighed free. "Part ways indeed."

Sliding his eye to the side, he regarded his nephew with a slight smile. "We'll go and take a look around the city. I want to get a read on things here, and there isn't a chance in hell I'm shacking in there." Not with her.

Callling out though, he glanced at Sanina. "I trust that if we need to talk, you'll know how to get in touch." Turning to stride away, he muttered more quietly. "'Cause I sure as hell ain't going to be seen walking up to a place like this again."

The trip had been long, and it had been very pensive for her as she watched Sanina be near Viktor. She kept her distance the whole trip. It wasn't that she was severing her ties with Viktor, she didn't want that in the slightest, it was more the fact that she didn't trust Sanina. She only came because circumstances had made Wing City unsafe to remain. It was another journey to a new place to get away from trouble. She knew this journey type well as she had encountered it so very frequently in these 550 years that it was just a bore to her anymore. She held little interest in seeing the new sights of the sea, she had seen enough of them to be content. She had held quiet, the whole trip, sticking near to the young vampire the whole trip as if providing a motherly protection of the girl. Guarding her from Sanina more than any of the ones who ventured with them on this accosted journey.

She sighed to herself as they finally came upon the Lessard Manor. It had been centuries since she had seen the old courtyard beauty like these. She scanned the area, her guards up but senses pushed to get a feel for the place. She cast a glance at the little girls who went to go play a moment before returning to scanning the area. It was run down, but some TLC would perk it up easily into the grand estate it once was. She wouldn't hang around though to help. She knew Sanina enough at least to know that she was a thorn in her side and inconvenience to be around. She had no intentions whatsoever to stay in the company of Sanina as she was sure the lycans held no interest in either.

She casta side glance at the two lycans just as the one known to her as Riaze spoke about departing. She took his lead and said nothing as she turned to leave. She paused but a moment to look to Viktor, Will I ever see you again Viktor? She thought to herself before sighing and turning to leave. It was time to get her feet and do the one routine that never failed her, the methodical dissection and mapping of a new lace to know escape routes in case she couldn't handle or didn't feel like handling something she encountered. She would start in the lowest ranks of society and work her way up like she always had. She turned her back with only one thought in her mind, Goodbye Viktor, I appreciate everything you did for me unnecessarily.
