The Lore
Magic has always existed, but it has always remained just beneath the surface of society. Religion and people refusing to accept that which was different from them prevented people with magic from stepping into the spotlight.

In this magical underworld there exist two beings. There are the witches and the hunters. For the witches, magic was in their blood. It ran in their family and generation after generation, lessons were passed on from parent to child. On the other side were the hunters. Much like the witches, there was something in their genetic makeup. They were stronger than the average human, but most importantly they were resistant to magic.

At first, these two coexisted; there were other horrors in the world, after all.

In 1692 the famous Salem Witch trials were conducted, and that’s when things between the hunters and the witches shifted. Both sides lost members in what would become the Great Magical War. Many were lost to the witch trials that occurred across the New World as well as fighting against each other.

Eventually, the witches traveled north to create a safe haven to hide their kind from the hunters. Hunters began disappearing, and the theory was that they were dying out and sorcerers were winning the war. Thomas Barlow, a well-respected witch of his time, and a few of his talented friends created a place where children could learn to harness their inherent power. The children he knew were not being taught magic, not all parents were suited for the task, and he began tutoring until the Altsoba School of Sorcery was born. As a whole, the magically inclined opted to be called sorcerers, hoping to escape the negative connotations associated with the word "witch." The school was named by the original founders, the word Altsoba translating to “all are at war” which soon became the school’s motto; so they would never forget. Eventually, other magic schools started up in different parts of the world.

It was true that as this was happening, the Hunters were losing numbers. As a result, they began pulling back from the war, letting the humans ostracize and demonize the witches. They knew of the rumors of magic schools cropping up all around the world, but they could never find them.

Now, we have a lot of information in regards to how the world works, magic, laws, etc. However, in order not to overwhelm you, I'm going to leave most of that out for now. I'll provide you with a little bit of information on the magic, and we'll wait and see who is interested.

General Magic
Magic is done through the use of spells channeled through a wand or even sometimes another medium such as a staff. Either must have a magical core and be made and bound with magic to channel magic energy. Wandless magic can be performed, but it takes an incredible amount of work and dedication. Generally, wandless magic can’t begin to be performed until after specific study in the subject at a collegiate level.

Wandless magic is most easily achieved when practicing gift magic, though it still requires more work and stamina than practicing with a wand or some other means of channeling. The practice of magic, both general and gift, uses energy from the sorcerer (think of it as a workout; doing magic is not effortless and doing a lot of magic or tremendous feats can be exhausting). Achieving greater feats of magic requires more than just talent and training, it requires strength and stamina. This is why those who practice duels (whether competitively or professionally) often train through running and other mostly cardio-centered workouts. Performing harder spells requires practice as well as stamina to improve spell quality and overall success.

Performing magic can take a lot out of a person, mainly if they don’t regularly practice. Think of it as a muscle; it doesn’t matter that you have a natural ability if you don’t practice. Performing magic requires stamina and energy, things that you can increase by practice. The more you practice, the easier it will become to perform harder spells and mix the more difficult potions.

All spells, both old and new, can be spoken in any native tongue, though most spells may have a higher potency if done in Latin or other ancient languages. Most often spells are verbal and the sorcerer may use as little as a whisper when using smaller and well practice spells, as long as the words are clearly spoken. For unfamiliar spells or higher level spells, it is recommended to speak loud and clear.

Gift Magic
How the gifts work:
When a sorcerer’s magic first starts to show, they will show an affinity for all six of the gifts. Very minor, maybe a little bit of wind picks up when they’re frustrated or a wild fauna might come up to a sorcerer looking for attention. As the sorcerer ages, their affinity for a particular gift will strengthen while the rest will slowly weaken and, ultimately, disappear.

By the age of 16-17, their strongest gift should be apparent. At the start of the year, there is a ceremony where 11th years get to announce what their gift is going to be formally. It is also the year they get to start taking classes specializing in their gift whereas previously they were required to take lessons in all of the gifts (the reason being it’s important that they have a basic understanding and respect for all of the gifts). Once your gift is declared, and the ceremony is complete for all declaring students, the lining inside the student’s cloak will change color to reflect their gift (blue for water, red for fire, green for earth, grey for wind, brown for fauna, and purple for clairvoyance). These cloaks are often worn not worn into adulthood unless in magical only locations, many sorcerers finding other means of indicating their gift (i.e., jewelry).

The Six Gifts:

Earth:
Physical Center of Tension: Thighs and Seat
Source of body dynamics: Strength
Personality traits: Steadfast and dependable. Introverted. Very grounded. Realistic. Tend to be outdoorsy individuals and obtain a greater sense of peace from being outside.
Other Info: Has the power to create small earthquakes. Some of the more powerful sorcerers have created large-scale earthquakes that have devastated cities. Often friends with fauna.

Water:
Physical Center of Tension: Lower abdomen, navel
Source of body dynamics: Power
Personality traits: Emotional. Extraverted.
Other Info: Water typically balances out the more impulsive tendencies of fire. Water and fire tend to make friends with one another easily. With training and practice, these sorcerers can learn to breathe underwater for hours at a time. Without practice, they can go a few minutes longer than the average person.

Fire:
Physical Center of Tension: Solar Plexus
Source of body dynamics: Energy
Personality traits: Impulsive. Extroverted. Rational
Other info: Fire sorcerers do not burn as easily as others do and with practice will have a higher heat tolerance.

Wind:
Physical Center of Tension: Center of chest, heart
Source of body dynamics: Resiliency
Personality traits: Flighty airheads. Whimsical. Not always very realistic.
Other info: With practice, they can hover a few feet in the air; this also aids in tricks like jumping, flipping, etc.

Fauna:
Physical Center of Tension: Shoulders and back
Source of body dynamics: Love
Personality traits: Introverted. Prefers to be in the outdoors and prefers animals to people.
Other Info: Often friends with earth sorcerers. They have a connection with animals. They have a stronger influence on getting animals to behave a certain way, animals and magical creatures are more likely to bond or assist a fauna sorcerer. Additionally, fauna can tap into the abilities of nearby animals (i.e. the heightened smell of a dog, pouring some of their consciousness into a bird to use their sight, etc.)

There is a sixth gift of prophecy, but as it is incredibly rare (1-3 individuals every 75 years or so) and once it is suspected that might be their gift, the sorcerer is taken away, the details are not listed.

She has a slight obsession with makeup, ACDC, and playing the drums. Petra stands at 5 foot 3 and will punch you in the face if you ask how much she might weigh.

Has been compared to a Chihuahua before, as she's very nervous and shaky. Has also been told she talks way too much. A big fan of over-sized hoodies, cats, puff-rogs, and the oboe.​

Description: Slender and tall, Annemarie stands at around 5'8, towering over many of the other girls (and some of the boys). In her younger years, she agonized over her beanpole state, but she has now come to embrace it. Her long, blonde hair is typically worn pinned back in some form or fashion, and she has a pair of enchanted glasses that match her mood (a gift from her twin brother so he could tell when he pissed her off). She is incredibly tenderhearted and kind, but she does have high expectations of other people's behavior which means she is often disappointed.

Description: Elpida looks rather unassuming. On the shorter side at 5'3" and an average weight, its easy for her to slip into a crowd. However, she bursts to life with the help of music, hoping to one day take the world by storm with just her voice and her guitar. She looks just about as Greek as she is, with taupe brown skin marked with large brown freckles, jet-black hair that just grazes her shoulders, and dark brown eyes framed with long eyelashes. She has a boring fashion style, consisting of plain t-shirts and loose jeans or sweatpants. She always wears a pair of yellow citrine earrings.

Not a dumb question at all, however for now we're only allowing players to be sorcerers as the focus will be on the school life. :>

Description: Arthur, unlike some 11th graders, isn't able to hide in a crowd whatsoever. He has naturally bright red hair, which is somewhat short and straight. He's completely covered in freckles, and stands at 6'2". He may grow taller. He's lean and therefore almost gangly due to his height. He's quiet around most people, mainly due to being a first generation Welsh immigrant and not having the most complete grasp of the English language. He does like to speak, but doesn't want to be mortified if he forgets a word someone else his age "should know." He does like to be around people, but finds it somewhat difficult to find friends who're interested in more than his ancestry, accent, and appearance. He plays the harp, oddly enough, and spends a good amount of time trying to lengthen how much time he can spend underwater. Introvert/ambivert, doesn't like too much of people at once but does like to hang out with people.

Description: Castor - yes, like the oil - is a plain looking boy. He stands at 5'8" and is on the lower end of the weight spectrum. He's very pale, with pink cold-toned skin, though he's easy to make blush and make his skin a nice shade of crimson. He has short, dark, curly hair that sits unruly on his head, a longer curl often stretching down to graze his (surprisingly well-maintained) eyebrows or even stretching up out of his head. He's prone to all nighters, especially on clear nights; Castor is in love with the stars and space, and aspires to use his magic to advance space travel far beyond it's current levels.

Description: Aoife ( EE-fə; ) could never be considered slight, though not a large girl, she held much of her weight in her hip/thigh region and at 5'7 it fit her generally well. . Her mother had called it a gift from the Earth, and she had called it a curse. Her black hair long and pointed down to the small of her back. Her features are sharp, and her eyes bright and always questioning. Known to wear earth tones and long cardigans, anything to make her feel cozy. Often finding solace in the woods, her feet buried in the dirt, secretly she wished she could so easily make friends like her brother

Description: A large fellow, stocky and oddly built. While his sister was essentially mother earth, he was easily 'brother fire'. A frat- boy appearance about him, despite a rather toned down and calmed attitude. Dark hair like his sister, often in tight curls around his head. Being an irish twin, had never suited him well as he had always craved too much attention, and often created an attention deficit. A mummas boy at heart, his heart aches for her safety everyday. He finds comfort in lights, and will never find himself in a dark room alone.

Description: Destiny can trace her lineage all the way back to Salem, to Sarah Osborne. The Osborne women have always had an independent and self-reliant streak, and that shows with Destiny. She tends to keep to herself, only really opening up to those close enough that she can trust, and she usually prefers spending time working out and training, or going hiking or camping, as she has a strong affinity for nature. Shes rather strong and tall for her age, standing at 5'10" and being toned. Never seen without hiking boots on.

Description: Mikhail, affectionately called Mischa by his family, stands at 5' 11 1/2", with a promise of another inch or two of growth in his still rather gangly frame. He has dark brown, almost black hair and strangely light green eyes that look rather like some of the pigments have been bleached out. His russian ancestry becomes apparent in the light accent that still colours his voice, especially when he is nervous or experiencing heightened emotions. Mikhail is quiet, but not withdrawn, preferring to listen and not picky about his company, be it of human or animal nature. When coaxed out of his shell he will become cheeky and a little sarcastic, often commentating things under his breath for his own or others amusement.

She is also pretty skinny, and this combination of overall physical underwhelmingness makes her even more eager to prove herself. She also has long, white hair and thin eyebrows that she used a spell to dye - naturally, they're a golden blonde. She also has blue eyes. When it comes to outfits, when she chooses what she wants to wear, she'll normally opt for a normal white turtleneck and jeans, along with a black collar.
