History: Although she was born in London, Mary’s family soon moved to the United States as her father searched for work in the Post-Depression country. The family settled in Richmond, Virginia, and her father worked as a landlord in a growing neighborhood. Mary’s mother and older sister, on the other hand, worked in a nearby restaurant as hostesses. Living in the United States, her family made more money than they would have in Great Britain, and the Atkinson’s wealth gradually grew.
During the second world war, after Mary’s sister had married, Mary found herself madly in love with a handsome young soldier. Unfortunately, before he was due to return to the United States for their wedding, he was killed in a German airstrike. The loss devastated Mary and she found herself turning to the arts as a remedy – painting, in specific, became her saving grace. A year later, Mary’s work was “discovered” by an art critic, the man who would soon become her Sire and introduce her to the world of immortals.
Mary remained with her family for several years after the Embrace, choosing to leave only after telling them that she was to be married to an arranged suitor and they would move to New York City to start a new life. In reality, she was to move into her Sire’s mansion in Charleston, South Carolina, where he would continue to teach her the ways of vampires. However, Mary found him to be moody and disagreeable, and after a harsh fight, she decided to return to her home country, England. She currently resides in a small studio-style apartment in Westminster and works as from home as an artist and jack-of-all-trades.
