Face Nemesis

Artificial Blade
The third floor of the Green Pines Hospital was filled with a bright light, creating a stark contrast from the pitch black night scenery through the windows. Nurses walked up and down the halls, walking into rooms and carrying things for patients. The third floor was mostly quiet, given that there weren't many patients up this high. However, despite the late hour, one room was filled with teenagers checking in on an injured friend...

Patient Room 304 was occupied by a teenage girl named Rockie Bradford, aged 18. She had an accident during volleyball practice and broke her leg, and for the moment, she was restricted to her lonely bedroom. However, her friends had decided to change that for her and arranged to stay a little late with her. They all threw a little get-well party in her small room, hoping to make it feel a little more cozy. There were a few balloons and flowers scattered through the room, and despite the cramped space, everyone managed to fit in rather well. They managed to talk and laugh together until 8:50, 10 minutes before visiting hours ended...

"Thanks again for the party," Rockie spoke in a weak tone, lifting her head up to look at the others. "I wish you could all stay longer..."

"No problem!" Alice gave a wide grin. "We'd all like to stay longer. Anyone have anything else to say before we all head out?" She glanced at the others with her. For the most part, they were all a tight-knit group of friends. Alice, Evan, and Arris were all pretty close, and Alice had been trying to bring Sora into the group as well. Patrick's decision to come along was a little strange since they weren't all that close, but she knew that Rockie would appreciate all the support she could get. This party was the least she could do for her cousin.

Patrick was mostly quiet during the party although he made comments every now and again he didn't really know these people too well and so some of their stories and jokes flew over his head. Mostly he smiled, chuckled and snuck a whole cake as well as some jelly beans into the room.

The boy wore a black hoodie and sat near the corner of the room where next to him was a small table that let him eat and drink easier. Patrick raised his cup, Just filled with soda, to give a toast "I'd just like to thank you all for letting me go with you all it's was nice to spend a lovely time with such great people" the words flowed easily enough through his mouth not because it was natural but because even in the beginning of the party Patrick was already rehearsing "I'd also like to add that a broken leg would have been much funnier if it applied to any of the other actors in this room" he laughed at his joked but then stifled it "Anyways hope you get better Rockie, I'm sure we'd all be happy to visit you again" he ended it with an easy smile.

Sora was the quietest. Despite having soda, she would occasionally take a drink from a small flask. Being in a far corner, mostly she kept to herself, raising a glass in toast as directed. She had come in shorts and an oversized T shirt with some video game character on it, and even har cat ear headphones. She was mostly glancing at Alice, who was the only person she really knew.

She wasn't good with people. How did she let Alice talk her into driving here. Gripping her messenger bag, she slid the flask in and down whatever she HD just drunk, with more soda.

Arris, the young man with ginger hair, and being built like a rookie foot ball player, had taken the closest seat he could to Rockie, as he was the boyfriend. "I talked the staff into letting me stay a bit longer, given we're missing homecoming and I still wanted some time with my lady, but as for the party, it was great to see so many smiling faces for Rockie. I hope you guys have a great night." He gave them all thst sparking jock smile that everyone likes to make fun of him for, as if he were from a TV show, and he returned to looking at Rockie.

By contrast to his speaking voice, the hushed tones of his voice while talking to Rockie showed a more gentle side to the burly man. "Babe, I'll only be here for a little longer. Like twenty minutes at most, so if you need anything, let me know."

Evan had spent his time during the get-together mingling with his friends, trying to cheer up Rockie with all the many movie ideas he had been spinning in his head with Alice for the past month or two, while taking time to scratch down notes on his trusty notepad whenever an interesting bit of conversation sparked the working gears in his head specifically designed to take in info and convert it into a stories about vampires and whatnot.

When it came time to say goodbye, Evan ended off on a note that aimed to make sure her spirits would be up even as they left, in his own way of course. "Well, it's been fun Rock, but you got a long road ahead of you, so try to take it easy," he said. "Oh yeah and don't let Arris over there keep you too good company while we're away. They got cameras in these rooms, you know," he teased, giving an Arris a look that indicated that the two had a habit of playfully going at one another.

Alice was rather surprised to see that Patrick of all people started the toast, given how quiet he usually was. Regardless, she lifted her glass. She did give Patrick a smirk, though. "Who in particular did you have in mind for that?" She asked, giving a bit of a giggle afterwards. "Anyway, we really do hope you get better, Rockie!" She then moved over to Sora, noticing that she was being pretty quiet. She'd been almost silent the whole party, in fact. Alice took a seat next to her, glancing around the room. "How are you holding up? I know parties aren't usually your thing..." She whispered.

Meanwhile, Rockie smiled as the others spoke. "Thank you, Patrick... though I'd prefer if no one was in this position," she said with a light laugh at the end. As Arris whispered to her, she gave a little blush. "I'd just like to talk with you a little longer... there isn't much we can do while I'm like this, but I'm just happy to spend time with you," she gave him a warm smile before blushing as Evan made his little joke. "We know that! If anything, you're just jealous of our relationship..." She spoke in a loud voice, though her face was still bright red.

Arris sighed at Evan's jab, but seemed to bounce back quickly. "I don't think we're gonna get that personal, but thanks for the tip." He reaches over and leaves a kiss on Rockie's cheek. "I'll walk everyone down to the exit, just so you know where I'll be."

He gives her a smile, and looks at the crowd. "Oi oi! When you're ready to go, let's get going." He calls to the party with a smile. He may not really know any of them, but they seemed nice.

"We know that! If anything, you're just jealous of our relationship..." She spoke in a loud voice, though her face was still bright red.

"Hey, I don't need a girl in my life to be happy. I just got the Bloodsuckers From Planet Zion Collection on Blu Ray for half price the other day, I'm doing pretty okay for myself," Evan quipped back, fairly confident in his own sexual activity, or rather, lack thereof.

Arris sighed at Evan's jab, but seemed to bounce back quickly. "I don't think we're gonna get that personal, but thanks for the tip."

"No need to be modest friend, I know what you like," Evan winked. He then decided to drop his joking facade and level with Arris on a more serious note, going over and putting his hand on his shoulder. "No but seriously man, I admire your dedication. Most people I know wouldn't be this gracious to someone at a time like this. You're a good egg, pal.

"Thank you, Patrick... though I'd prefer if no one was in this position,"

"hah nobody got the break a leg joke" said Patrick "Ohh well I didn't phrase it properly anyway"

"Sounds like either a really good sci-fi, a really bad horror or maybe a really weird porno" Patrick laughed then clapped sarcastically "Bravo on your purchase, by the way Sounds like you've got things all figured out"

"I don't think we're gonna get that personal, but thanks for the tip."
Patrick with a completely straight face spoke "Just cover the cameras with a piece of cloth there's only one in that right corner watching the bed and that one over the bed watching the door" and with an awkward silence he continued "If you explain to the nurses I'm sure they can understand" then he shrugged "Or worst comes to worst overload it with a laser pointer. Here take one of mine" Patrick reached into his pocket to pull out a small plastic device which he tossed to Arris.

The young man in a hoodie stretched and yawned then walked near the doorframe "Ready to go when you all are" Patrick said

Sora shyly looked over at Alice. She seemed a bit out of it, until she shook her head. "I'm fine...j...just had a rough night, so being here helps." She smiled a bit, though had to determine her cup down as her vision blurred slightly. She needed to stop drinking from her flask.
"...how are you holding up?"

Arris gave off a slight smile as he was complemented. "Thanks. I know you didn't mean nothing by it. " He said plainly, giving Evan a bro hug. He seemed pretty casual, until Patrick spoke up.

"It's more of an issue of her having a broken leg, i don't wanna hurt her mate. She's my lady." He sighs, waiting over by the door for the others.

Rockie blushed a little more as the others continued their discussion of how her and Arris could sneak in a little fun without getting caught. "The point is that we aren't going to be trying anything like that in a public place..." she muttered. "I'll see you soon, Arris," she gave him a smile. "Thanks again, everyone... I really do mean it."

As the others all joked around, Alice continued speaking with Sora. "I'm doing fine. Not really much that can go wrong here, anyway," she gave a little giggle. "Either way, I'm glad that this helped you, too!" She extended a hand towards Sora. "Come on, let's go see the others. We should probably get out of here. If you need anything else, you can let me know!"

Patrick was tapping his foot impatiently and rubbing his index finger with his thumb. Suddenly he coughed loudly to get every bodies attention "I don't want to sound like an asshole I really don't but I really need a smoke right now" he tapped the side of his hoodie "I'll just see you guys outside the lobby alright? Again I'm really sorry about this" he twisted the knob then started to walk out of the room.

Sora shyly took Alice's hand. It was soft...warm...she gripped for a second. Then relaxed. "...okay" she soft said softly. "...let's go."

"Nice seeing ya, Rock. Get well soon!" Evan said, waving goodbye to his friend, and joining the others in their departure.

He then turned his attention towards the actions of the others, specifically Patrick. "That Patrick guys' a bit... off, don't you think?" Evan asked Alice. "I mean, he doesn't really know Rock all that well anyway, so I don't really know why he showed up..."

Arris sighed. "It was nice him to come anyway, him being off or not, so i appreciate it. Rockie loves visitors." He stated quickly before exiting the room and waiting for the others. "Though, going to smoke in a hospital is kinda ironic." He stands against the wall, letting that and other thoughts go around his head.

Alice led Sora into the hall with the others, their hands still linked as they walked through the door. While they stood outside for a moment, she responded to Evan. "Yeah, he's kinda weird... but the more the merrier, right?" Then again, he seemed pretty aggravated just now... after being so cheery the whole time, that was a really weird shift in mood.

As there was a short pause in the group's conversation, the lights in the building suddenly went out, leaving them in darkness. Alice jumped a bit, startled by the sudden change in lighting. It's a good thing no one saw that... although maybe Sora felt it... "Everyone else is here, right?" She asked, using her free hand to dig in her pocket. She pulled her phone out and turned on a flashlight app. "What's going on now? I don't think they'd shut off all the lights just before visiting hours end," she muttered as she waved her phone around to try to find clues. Some nurses seemed confused and approached the teens.

"Sorry, we think that the power may have gone out... We're going to go and check in on that. Stay safe, okay?"

"Got it," Alice said as the two women began to stumble towards the stairs. "Well... what now?"

Sora felt the jump, but she also jumped at the loss of power. She pressed closet out of fear, her shyness morphing to terror at the fact not even the nurses knew what was going on. Both her hands gripped Alice, shaking in fear.
"Wh...what's going on?"

"For now, we should go back into Rockie's room and stay put." Arris said, like a true leader, even in a minor emergency. "There's no place else for us that we can be safe in easily for now, and we're just outside anyway." He stated quickly. "Don't wanna slip on the tiles and the elevatoes are down, so."

Patrick was on his way to the elevator when the lights suddenly turned off. He didn't really feel like walking all the way down the stairs so instead, he went to a nearby bathroom and hoped that the smoke alarms were off or at least that they'd not detect his cigarette. He used his lighter to navigate around the hospital until he found the sterile washroom and waited there a minute quickly finishing his smoke.

Afterward, he decided to go back to the front of Rockie's hospital room figuring that the group would have stayed nearby either out of safety or general slowness.
